GM Algo fam. All right. Welcome to episode 36 of Algo fam.
I'm Ryan and she's Adrian. I'm Sydney and he's in Boston. We work together at Algarand. I'm the governance program manager. And I'm developer advocate. Together we provide you with a global perspective on the Algarand ecosystem. And on today's episode of Algar Plus.
We will cover the latest news and announcements, spotlight upcoming events and explore ecosystem stats. Then it's your turn, Algo fam. Join our conversation by hitting that request button now and we'll get you up on stage. Cute up, ready to ask some questions. Tell us what you're building or simply
give a shout out to someone in the Algo fam. We're glad to have you here as always on Algo bus, Adri. Good morning. So you good afternoon to you, I guess it is. Yes, good afternoon, Ryan. It's 1 p.m. in Sydney, Australia, good afternoon, good morning, good evening, everyone tuning in. It's great to be here again this week.
Absolutely. Well, we are thrilled to be doing it once again this week. We're gonna get straight into it. What do you think? Yes, let's do it. All right, first up we got some news. So today was a big day for Alvarez. And we had the first ever Alvarez assembly. Stacy kicked off today.
on the live storm platform and there we had over 300 people listening live, Stacy introduced the entire community team to everybody and we got to understand a lot more of
about what the foundation is working on or working towards in 2023. Definitely focused on transparency, definitely focused on this region-wide approach of getting resources in, you know, meeting our elbow community wherever they are.
and setting up leads within the various portions of the ecosystem so that we've got people who you know how to connect with and we'll see you out there at various events around this globe upcoming. There will be a recording of this made available so look forward to it.
forward to having everybody make sure that they take a listen to the Alvarand Assembly that was recorded today. Yes, I will be one of those people that will listen to the recording because the assembly happened at 3 a.m. Australia time. What's difficult to stay up? Yes, how
I was going to bed, but I figured if I stay up, I wouldn't sleep because this community calls, they always get me excited about what's coming. So I made the decision to just go to bed. Good. Well, you missed out on a lot. It was a very well done period.
presentation and it was really nice to see and hear from everybody working within that portion of the Everhan Foundation today. Look, inside that governance is a really big part of community and I think this community calls they are going to be, will take turns on
And have APEC-friendly time zone calls as well. So it's going to be Europe, US-friendly, then APEC-friendly, and we're going to interchange them like that. So I will certainly be part of the next one, not only to talk about governance, but also to talk about the Australian community, which I'm
still interim head of. Very good. Well, speaking about the foundation and kind of how it's grown, Stacy got to touch quite a bit on that during the other end assembly today. What other big news do we have coming out of the sea level?
at the foundation of coming. So next week our new CMO will start. We have been keeping secrets about who this person is and unfortunately we cannot give you off. Alpha on this this week. However next week Stacy will hold
We're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to be doing a lot#
person because we believe that they will be very very good person to have on a team and you know take us forward. Yes absolutely. I will let you know Adri that when we had the grant assembly today
the interface there had an opportunity for the community to post questions, right? So as the presentation was going on, people were posting questions and then it actually allows you to upvote the question that somebody else had asked that you want to actually have asked. And the number one one was, hey, stay
easy, elephant in the room is all about marketing, what's up, what can you tell us? And she got up there and said, hey, nobody wants more marketing than I do. And she starts next week. So there was a bit of alpha that I heard you trying to
to not say, but yes, our new chief marketing officer will be she. So we very much look forward to this announcement next week. Yes, so next week, Stacy will host this meeting greet. It's on the 25th. The announcement, the official announcement comes out on the 24th.
the 25th Stacey will be hosting this major-sposed link on the chat here for you guys. Chip in the good stuff. All right, we'll be along us. Some other big announcements this week was X-Backed has launched. Yes, X-Backed is a permissionless over-collateralized stable
that is built right on Algrant and allows anyone to use the cryptocurrency without the volatility of the underlying algo. So Xbacks, decentralized stablecoin, the XUSD is available now to be minted on the platform and aimed to
maintain a stable value of $1 USD backed by assets in a basket. It also implements a stability pool on chain governance and has a token generation event will be available in the upcoming months.
So very excited about that. Congratulations to the X-Bact. They're also listed in DeFi Lama. So when we cover the stats there, they will be included in that as well. But that's just a little foreshadowing for what's upcoming. Yes, congrats, X-Bact. Welcome to Mainnet. It's been a long time coming.
The part of their team is here in Australia, so I've had the pleasure working with them the last year. I've reached out to the team. They can be here today, but hopefully we can get them here next week to talk a little bit more about X-Back and what's coming and asking questions from the community.
Good good. And governance closed. So what's up there? So yeah, we had a new time high, I think, on governance. At least it's higher than the previous governance period. We closed off with 4.2 billion august committed and 31.6
7,000 governors. So previously we had 38.2 billion hours and 28.7,000 governors. So great outcome. We are working hard on ex-Govs. Stefan has been hosting his weekly
We have very close to having a first version that we can start building technical requirements for the Arc 33, which is how to become an X-Gov. So things are progressing nicely.
I'm really grateful of the support and the engagement that the community has had on that process. So thank you for that. Yes, great, great stuff there. All right. Well, I think that wraps up kind of the news. Let's move along to events then.
Well, we have a blockchain builders event in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday, January 31st. That's going to be, I think, at RMIT University. May is also pending a tweet here. So if you're in town, in Melbourne,
coming chat with the algorithm community. Unfortunately I'm not going to be there this time. I have some issues here in Sydney that I cannot travel next week but I'll be there in spirit. All right sounds good.
Sounds very good. Well, some other events that are upcoming, I will share with you. This past week, you're just just wrapped up today, we did the first two of four Algorand Developer Greenhouse boot camps for beginners. So, Joe Paul
my colleague on the DevRel team and I gave two sessions yesterday and today and then we continue that with sessions three and four into next week. So you still have time to sign up on Alvarand.foundation/events and look for the Alvarand Developer greenhouse
bootcamp for sessions 3 and 4. And then newly announced in something that I want devs especially within India to take note of as we are going to be having the Al-Gran developer greenhouse HECKshack and pitch competition in Hyderabad, India.
from 24 through 26th March. So take a look at the details on that. We are very much looking forward to coming to Headerbod and putting on a great show for you all there made better by you pitching
to us there. So look forward to working with you all there in a couple of months. Are you going to India? TBD, but yes, we will definitely, Deborah will definitely be there in person. Yes. Awesome. All right. Lots of upcoming events.
And what's happening with Stats Ryan? How are we looking this week? Well, let's head on over to the DFI Lama.com website and take a look at the stats. And as predicted last week when I said, "Hey, I think these
numbers are going to go up because of the governance period, but I was right. All right. On the chains, Algrang jumped up four positions to number 16, and then in the total value locked as represented by US dollar valuation, we shot up almost
70 million USD to 162 million USD in value locked in the DeFi protocols. That represents 771 million Algos, which is crushing it as an all-time high. So not only do we have all-time
Highs in Governor's Period number six. We also have an all-time high in the total amount of Algos locked into our DeFi protocol. So thanks again to DeFiLama.com for supplying us with those stats and congrats to all of the projects making their protocols available.
And to all of you end users and DGEN is just the same for participating in those protocols. Yes, you know, we've talked about this offline and the algorithm foundation does not participate in governance, right? So we do not use algorithm foundation.
We are in the community and also work for the foundation. We use our own now because at least I do in governance. This governance spirit was the first time that I had some LP. I tried the LP feature.
gominch and you know on pack and I put use that in governance and I'm like oh yeah this is cool it is kind of fun yes yeah I agree I put I put some disposable L goes in there myself to try out a few of the various protocols as well so wonderful if you
You still have the chance to use all these wonderful D5 protocols even if you didn't participate in governance, you can still participate in any of those various protocols as well. I think especially if you didn't participate in governance, get out there and
try the wonderful projects out. Yes, for sure. All right, well, Algo Fam, this is the time of the program when we invite you up to the stage. We want you to come up and join the conversation. Tell us about what you're up to, what's the project that you're working on, the
fond of that you're building out or come up and chat with us, ask us questions. We're all knowing within the foundation are we not? Certainly if you want to give a shout out to somebody else in the community, do that. So shall we first welcome to the stage, our friend AP?
Hi, good morning. Good evening, Ryan. Thank you. Yeah, so I like I applied try to apply for that Hyderabad Hakshake but there was something that this is a suggestion actually when you upload the pitch deck and the pitch video there is no feedback.
back from the UI so you cannot know whether they are properly uploaded or not. I have taken a gamble. So if you can at least ask the UI developer to maybe just change it a little bit so that maybe once you upload it, maybe the file name is visible or something like that, it will be great for people to apply.
I mean, I thought that we should have confetti flying across the screen and dancing emojis of some sort to indicate that you've made your application. That's what we need. No, no. When you upload the file, there is nothing that comes, at least the name of the file is shown there.
then you get a confirmation that the file is uploaded, right? >> I see what you're saying. So yeah, just something they confirmed that the file is there. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, very good. All right, good. I will pass that bit of feedback along to the web dev team so that they can
try to remedy that. We definitely wanted it to be as easy as possible, but also provide the users with some proper feedback as well. Maybe tell us a little bit about what was the application process like? Was it laborious or was it fairly straightforward?
Yeah, it was it was easy actually they asked us maybe like who they're about the team members and their profiles like what they are doing for the project then a short description and like one once and like one word or just a
one sentence about like, sort, yeah, in short what is it about all those things, then maybe one, we have to upload one pitch deck and a pitch video, maybe of 20, 30 seconds. So I uploaded a 3 minute video actually that we have done for the end code accelerator.
So, yeah and then I think that's it and also like there was a question regarding why we should like be selected for the competition. So, there is a build bar pitch competition, sorry build bar scale competition that's happening for which this application
application is being processed. So, these are the questions that were there and they were all straightforward. Yeah, I enjoyed the process, not a problem. This is the only thing that I felt maybe like somebody who is new, maybe to Algorade like this website may feel a little bit weird because
like they uploaded and there is no feedback so they don't know whether it got properly uploaded or not that's all. Okay and then about how many minutes will it take you to go through it? Yes since I have applied before I had everything ready so it may have taken me
maybe like one and a half to two minutes, just to go for a day. - That's great. - If you have all the info ready, it's easier. - Yeah, actually, that's true. If you don't have it already, then you actually take at least eight minutes, I think.
Well, even so less than 10 minutes to make your application that sounds quite easy. Long-glad you've made it and we'll invite other devs out there within the ecosystem and certainly those that are new as well will have mentors will have DevRel
We're going to help you not only build upon your idea, but we're going to have you work on that pitch as well, right? Because at the end of it, at the HACCHAC, then there is the pitch competition, and we'll have some mentors there.
to help you with that as well as Deborah out to help you with the code and get you building. So check it all out there. Again, you can you can turn that at Elverand. Foundation and this particular one is under slash events. Yes, and one
like thing about our project we have reached around 690 registrations so unique addresses have registered our testnet in the last like 4 to 5 days and we are happy that yeah that has happened. I hope like yeah and then
Maybe your project again is notavoy, right? So, uh, we've been behind, uh, I remember listening to how do they, um, how can they participate and connect with your project? Yeah, I have made a small poster kind of a thing which, uh,
How to use the testnet I will pin it to the top so that people can have a look at it Sounds good and last time we spoke AP you were going to hosted Twitter space about not a boy hundred that go is there a link that we can go on this
Yes, yes, we have hosted space so that people can come and ask questions regarding the naughty boy and also like, yeah, that has been done that well. I will certainly maybe pin it to. Thank you, Adri.
Awesome. Thank you. I have another suggestion like yesterday that all hands went well. It's the possibility that that can be uploaded to YouTube. So many people have missed the all hands. So if they have Lisha time like they can just maybe go through the video.
once more so that everybody has a chance to maybe interact at least indirectly with the all-hands that's happening maybe in the future months too. Look I think the previous ones have been uploaded to YouTube so I'd say the likelihood of that happening is really
high. I'll just confirm that the social team to post the link as soon as it's live. Yes, I am almost positive that they said that it would be available and having some experience now posting to YouTube as a
I was really surprised at how long it takes to upload it and YouTube to, I don't know, whatever process it is. Processing, yeah. It takes literally hours. I was like, oh man, this is not a fast thing.
I guess they got to make sure that you're not putting anything bad up on the internet. Yeah, they have to. I think the process is also when they have a look at what's going on under the hood and whether it's appropriate or not, right? That's right. Well, trust me. All Joe and I are doing our business.
contracts were pretty harmless. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no#
All right, anyone else would like to come on stage and ask a question or make a comment and introduce yourselves, please do so. Otherwise, what's coming up next week, Ryan? Next week, we are going to have this on Wednesday. Well, to the next Wednesday
for you still. Yeah next week we're going to go earlier and we are going to go off at noon UTC which will be 7 a.m. Eastern time and for you Australia time
11 p.m. 11 p.m. Oh yeah. The last... well let's see here that the day before Australia day. Or it is... right? Yes, the day before Australia day, Australia day is like a big
holiday in Australia and usually that means we are all at poor parties in different places. I don't tend to celebrate it very much for the Aboriginal people. It's not a it's a day of remembrance of people
The day that Australia got invaded, so there's usually lots of controversy about Australia Day. But it's a holiday, it's a day off, so we get together with friends, we catch up, and yeah, so we're gonna have a late, late show on Wednesday, Australia time.
Good. That sounds good. Well, which beach are you planning to head to? I'm not going to be. So we for the past, I'd say six years or so, my partner and I will go and go to this friend of ours. He's got a pool and it's a nice
like soap water warm pool and it's the kind of pool that you stain the water all the time. So we just go to the pool potty and you know it's always the same group of people and it's very relaxed. I like the sounds of that.
It's we over there obviously because with the sipping cocktails and eating barbecue all day long. It's nice. Wonderful. Well, my my experience of Australia day was spent in the shade of the city hybrid.
And what I loved were these fairies with bands that would float past you and had all their speakers pointed at the shore. And we get serenaded as they move past. So it was a moving concert and those of us on
I'm sure enjoying the different sounds as they flowed by. Look, a few years back when I was a sailor, like I used to race up to 30 feet, both here. Australia day, it was regatta day for me. And, you know, there's Australia day race in my club and we used to say out of
botany bay which is near the Sydney airport go to the entrance of Sydney harbor and back which was like a really long sailing day but I have not been that in a few years since I moved closer to the city I haven't been able to do that but yeah well that's next week
All right, so good. So a little bit earlier next week, we look forward to having everybody back here on Algo Plus. And we'll see if we can't line up a few new guests to come on the show for that one. We'll definitely be right in the sweet spot for our
European friends there. So let's see who we can't organize to come and join us next week. Exactly. Alright. Thanks everyone for joining and thanks everyone who's listening to the recording of this. We appreciate you, I'll go fam and see you next week. Alright, take care, Adrian.
Thank you for hosting the space. Thanks AP. Thanks as always for your participation. It's very appreciated. All right, let's go out with a little tune or two. What do you think? You got some beats for us?
(upbeat music)
