GMGM, Algo fam. What's up? Welcome to episode 42 of Algo Plus. I'm Ryan and she's Adrian.
- I'm Eesindmi and he's in Boston. Oh no, you're in Denver today. We work together at Algarand. I'm the governance program manager. - And I am a developer advocate. Together we bring you a global perspective on the Algarand ecosystem each week. - And on today's episode
ask us a question, tell us about what you're building or simply give a shout out to someone in the alga fam. That's it. Welcome crew. Hi Ryan. How are things in Denver? What's going on there this week? The sun is out and the devs are coming to town. It is, it's been
pretty exciting. My colleague, Joel Polniani on the DevRel team arrived on Sunday evening and we had a full day on Monday over at the encode Hacker House with the pit from Jump Crypto. We hosted
The Algrant Hour and the pair of us were up there demonstrating the new Algo Kit how to get set up as a developer for writing Algrant Smart Contracts and just connecting with devs. We got some great swag that we've been handing out as well. So if you are
here in Denver, come on over to the encode Hacker House, get yourself a beanie, get some stickers, and then we will see you a little bit later on in the week at the main venue starting from Thursday. Tomorrow, my gosh, really. Wow, we go fast. - Goes really fast.
And, tell me, Ryan, what happened with the latest greenhouse hack? Do we have winners? We do have winners. And congratulations to all of our winners and, and certainly, thank you to all of those who participated in greenhouse hack number three. One reminds you that we'll have greenhouse number four.
We're coming up very soon. Look for an announcement on algrand.foundation under the greenhouse heading. It's actually under the developers heading and then there is the greenhouse stuff. So let me just quickly try to go through all of our winners here in the code list challenge. We have Jake and Tran.
in Molto and Buzzer 10 each winning bag full of Algos ranging from 5K to 1K. Our winner in the Yield Auto Compounder is Houdu winning 20,000 Algos. Nice work, big prize there.
In the learning challenge number two, which was NFT tooling with SDKs, our winners winning 5K was Repson Win Child, second was NACBotics, WinN3K and Killian 94, taken home third and 2K, I'll go
congrats to all of them in the other challenge which was using box storage with beaker our top winner there was giraffe giraffe key winning five k algos my low sp a sa winning three k algos and e algonaut winning
2k. Congratulations to those building with box storage. In our bridge out of greater challenge, we had a couple of winners there in first place. It's David N. Valley winning 15k algos. And in second place it was coffee ace.
winning 10k algos and in the bring your own project challenge the winner top prize going to a valus winning 15k algo in second place is CMD labs when in 10k in third place
Let's see here do RS4N when 5K algo along with oh this is a tie for third place so they are each getting 5K so also SladeCack winning 5K as well so again congratulations to everybody who are participated in our third
greenhouse hack and look forward to seeing your hack again or come and join us in the greenhouse hack number four upcoming shortly. Time to battle now. You got that. It'll be a little bit. All right. Well, what's going on? Congrats to all of us indeed. Yes.
Hey, so what's going on with governance? Lots going on with governance. As you know, we put on a new measure, measured new measure two when we announced the measures on the portal last week. That was like a last minute
entry. We had a very good discussion with the government's advisory committee about it. It was proposed by Riley and the community had, you know, she said that she had community support for it and we really went for this measure and since we announced
we have been trying to finalize the details and the criteria projects and it's been an interesting week. We have one final meeting about that which midnight tonight for me. Therefore we will have this criteria by the time that the governance
voting would be starting because I've postponed it for 24 hours just to give ourselves and everybody else a chance to have a read before we voting opens so voting for this governance session, governance period 6 will open on the third
March 3rd of March 4 p.m. UTC or 11 a.m. EST and midnight Singapore and I think it's 3 a.m. Australia time and for the next governance period we will be
distribute 60 million in out those in rewards. And the first measure is about giving DeFi rewards an extra 5 million boost. So raising from the current A15 million level to 20 million per quarter. And if that
measure passes, we are proposing that we allocate that boost to a targeted DeFi rewards program to be distributed directly by the DeFi projects to their users. So the main object of that is to
to attract new users from different ecosystems and users from our ecosystem that might have missed, you know, the governance sign-up window and they, you know, they can come and go through this program at any time, so they are not restricted to the three months lock-in
that we have for governance. So we want to look at that and see how it goes and evaluate and do it again as we do things over here. So voting will open 24 hours later, starting on midnight, 4th of March, Singapore time.
4 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively UTC and New York time. Great. Thank you for the update. All right. And watch the update come live on governance dot Albert and dot foundation. All right. Perfect.
So other news this week Dev's this one's for you big news that Elgrand the the Elgrand SDK is now available as a verified solution on the Unity asset store so if you are a game developer or if you are wanting to build
with the Unity SDK or the Unity Platform, you can now integrate Algrant into your solution there. So head over to the Unity Asset Store, look for Algrant and start Biddling. Let's go. Let's go indeed. Just trying to pin
that over here as the rent. I'm doing our intern's internship has ended so I'm trying to do two things at a time and it's quite annoying how Twitter doesn't let you pin things from your desktop while you're on your phone speaking. Oh really? So you have to do
everything on your phone. Okay, that is frustrating. Speaking of interns, we have the intern program is still open. Applications are open through mid-March, so you've got a few more days in order to make that application. We don't have that tweet handy
But there was a there was a tweet just a couple of days ago from the foundation Reminding people to do that. I know I tweeted it out from Algo devs as well. We've got I think there are a dozen different openings and basically it's throughout the Algrant foundation There will be roles available in
virtually anything that you can, well, anything that is this within the other end foundation. So from legal to development, operations, community, everything. Yes. Somebody might get to work with each of us. Wouldn't that be fun? Nice. Yes.
I love my interns. So on the back of that, I'll find this tweet while we were talking later and I'll post it open and he said, "Chris, I think it's your mate, Chris is in your team. He came in as an intern, right?" Yes, yes, correct, yeah. Chris Kim, right, he was our intern.
in the summer of, well it'll be two years of, it must be summer 21 and then he finished up his university and then we hired him after he wrapped that up. So yes, it definitely works. It is definitely an on-road to getting
hired so we look forward to having you make your application. And just before we talk about events, I just want to give a shout out to the community's team as they had their call last night for me with the new champions that
There are joining us, there will be an announcement about that soon, but we have, I think, about 30-35 champions this year. And you know, we really want to make a splash around the world about Elgorand. So, really happy, welcome to all the champions. We'll invite you to come and join us.
as at some point. Sounds good. Well, let's move on to events. But before we do that, I want to remind our listening audience, hit that request button and we will get you queued up to come and join our conversation here shortly. Moving along into events, there's so many events going on here at East Denver this week. We've got an event partnered
with one piece labs later on this evening. Like I said, we've been working with NCODE and Jump Crypto in the pit as well. So thank you to everybody and look forward to seeing you at many of these events in the upcoming days here during Biddle Week at ETH Denver. But what else do we got going on around the globe?
On the 22nd of March, we have the Unite in Paris with Algrant event. It's an event that we had for the first time last year, Organized by AwesomeCaro. And we're going to have this again this year. I believe it's going to be in the same location.
I'm not sure. I will open the tweets to that as well with a link for you for anyone in parrots to sign up. And we have what else Ryan? We have more developer more. Yes. We at the end of March. So the 24th through the 26th, we are taking the algorithm developer
hack shack to Headerbod in India and we are going to have a pitch competition there throughout the weekend really looking forward to being there. So I'll be there along with my colleague, Jill Polney seems like we're traveling a lot together recently. So that's been that's been a lot of fun and we're looking forward to that.
We've got a tweet about that as well and certainly if you can get yourself to Hyderabad, there is going to be a whole lot of fun happening in the developer hack shack. Amazing. And what is going on in the defalya online?
We had over to defalana.com and we take a look at our stats for this week. We are down in total value locked. We're down to 178 million USD value represented there. That's down about 22 million from last week or about 10%. So that's a fairly big downstroke.
We also see that that slides us down against our peers on the chain scale. We were at 14 last week, now we're at number 17. It's a very tight band. I will tell you that in order to get back to that number 14, we would only need to add back half of what we lost this week.
No worries there. Total number of Algos that are locked into these protocols stands at 727 million Algos and that's down just slightly at 5 million from the week prior. So a down week and that's what we do. We take a look each week at what's going on with DeFi use
using the DeFiLama.com. Yes, we do. And now it's the time for you, Algo Fern to come on stage and have a chat with us. We have guests today from Exo Ventures, which is the entity running our APEC Excel
I just sent Zach an invite to join us. I don't know if you received this Zach if you haven't please just ask raise your hand as to speak and we'll bring you on stage to learn all about EXO and your first cohort kicking off this week. I
I think. Well, why we wait for Zach to come up. We've got a couple of others up here. Oh, no, those are listeners. I'm getting my, I'm getting my little icons are goofed up. Maybe I should get those glasses. I don't know. I can't. I can't see what all of us.
I think we've got Zach up here getting connected. Yes. Welcome. We have Viola as well. Hello. Hello guys. Glad you guys are here. How about some introductions. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
So I look after the marketing side for exo ventures. So exo is currently running the APEC Acerator program. So far we're in week one for our first cohort. So we're announcing our seven startup joining us really should soon on our today's campus.
I'm really really excited about that. Personally, I've worked in the blockchain and marketing space for five years, specializing in helping start up kick off the ground and go to market. Previously, I've led a few marketing initiatives for different verticals in Web 3, so hopefully I can bring those experiences
to help our startups building on Elgrin as well. So for the program, I'm going to do a little spill before I hand it over to Zach. In the next three years, we're going to launch four different accelerator cohorts supporting up to 48 startups. So if you are building right now, I think
thinking about building start right now, we will have our second intake around mid-year. So for the program itself, it's a 12-week program where we will provide upfront sleep funding of 50K USD. So alongside that, we will also provide a mental
resources and our team would support you along the way, hand hold you a little bit in business building. And at the end, you have the opportunity to pitch to the community as well as our investor network for opportunity to get follow-on financing or huge support from the Elgo Fed.
from then on. So if you are a builder or looking to build on our grant, feel free to definitely reach out to us, send us updates and get yourself updated on all our channels. So by handing over to you there to give you a little bit of a help control. Thanks, Viola. Hey, everyone. Really great to be here.
here. I'm Zach, the program director for the accelerator. I've worked through a number of programs, a couple of including tech stars, and it's my job to bring startup fundamentals to Web 3 companies. So what we're really trying to do is help all these companies we're working with take
care of all the important things in building a brand new business and our goal is to get them through the programs so that they can basically start fundraising to scale their business. So really great to be here. Our goal is to bring mass adoption to our grant and the way in which we do that is making sure
that we think about our customers and our users and really get the community involved in what the startups are building. So we're really keen to announce launch week where we'll be asking our teams to put something out in market and would be really excited to get the algorithm community to come
and try the new products and give us their feedback on what the teams are doing. Can you share a little bit about the teams that are in this first cohort and what types of applications they're building?
So in brief, we've got 17 joining us. So I'll give you what they're building in the brief sense. So there's a DeFi aggregator that shows you all the assets that you have on the algorithm network. There's an NFT liquidity
that lets you land against your NFP collections. There's also a decentralized protection platform helping finance students find a role and helping recruitment firm find the students at the two-sided market place. There is another one which is a landings in
on the crypto route. There's also a blockchain explorer that lets you see all the transaction life. There's also a decentralized notification platform and a poll web that is on our program currently. We'll be sharing an article
either today or tomorrow. I'm just working closely with the program marketing team right now to time up the announcement together. But soon enough you see all of them in detail and we'll share on our social as well one by one who they are and you can go and stock them on social as well. I'm really excited
about this network and also the notification but the pull up yes 100 percent yes I think some of you might have experienced it in this side for ready they were there yes they are one of the startups as well very exciting looking looking forward to a
all these projects and for us to see the presentation day that'll happen in what about 10 10 or 11 weeks or 12 weeks I suppose on. The official demo day is 31st of May but for everyone who wants to get a sneak
pick and what the teams are building it will be closer to the first and when we have our launch week. So we will be letting everybody know about that and like I said get involved and tell us you know is what the team what the teams are building is it cool is it useful is it exciting we really want to know all about that. Alright.
31st of May and 1st of May, seeing like a long way away, but believe me, since I started working in governance, I always thought like governance took too long, it's three months, right? But then I realized it goes like this, so that's gonna be the same for you guys, this 10, 12 weeks, I'm gonna go so far.
But it's going to be fun. It's always a fun ride. - For sure. - Well, we're looking forward to supporting them and helping those builders. That's what my team on DevRel, that's what we'll be doing. So looking forward to working with you and all the teams there at this accelerator. Thank you. - Thanks, thank you.
Thanks guys, I'll go fam come on stage we have questions for Exo or for Ryan and I We love to hear from you if you have a comment or want to just introduce yourselves and what you're building we also want to hear for you just please
that request button. I see my friend out there, Fred, I was hoping he was going to come up and say hello to me. And then I see the Algo Gaming Guild out there that makes me think about a cool tweet that I saw today, Chris Wanner,
The first main net arc 72 NFTs was pretty cool stuff. We'll see if we can't find his tweet and pin that in here as well. He's got a quick little video.
shows him minting some packs and then opening those packs. Everything that's happening, you see there are smart contracts and it's in real time and because it's out of the
A very viable random function to ensure that the midding and the shuffling process is legit. So pretty cool stuff, glad to see them and the alloy team really pushing forward with new tech and using these new standards that we're working on.
Looking for that wheat Ryan I can find it Chris is such a prolific tweet. Oh, it's Twitter feed is like oh my gosh, that's so much. Well, we'll find it. We'll get it out there. I think I got it. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna be
one and that I what I think it is and then the algorithm can go from there can can find their way to another one if that's not what I'm meant to pin so it's there. Nice good. All right well let's see here.
upcoming for me. Like I said, here in the rest of the week, you can't really tell me how much I've been doing.
some feedback as we make refinements to it and get ready for the actual product launch here. Hopefully at the end of this month, I believe is when we are planning to do that. And then for you, we've got another late night again.
I have another late night with fine tuning measure 2 and making sure everything is online for the community to look at and analyze before we open voting in a little bit.
I'd say voting will open in about 24 plus 12 hours. 36 hours or so. All right good stuff. All right we've got a guest coming up here so that'll be good.
Good morning, good morning everyone. Great. It's been great. It's half an hour past midnight here for me. So I do apologize if I sound a little bit sleepy right now. And right, yeah,
right? Actually, I'm a question for you. Based on your experience in East Denver so far, would you say that the level of enthusiasm there is reflecting the bear market or are you seeing a lot of energy which suggests that even in times like this, the builders are still building great products.
Wow, I will tell you that this has been a much more enjoyable bit of week than last year. There are builders here right now. Let me tell you that this place is full. I've been to a few of the different hack house
around that then also to the main venue where you go to registration and then it's open for hackers there. It's packed as well as these hacker houses, there are other conferences, side event conferences that are happening and everyone that I've gone to
they're all packed, but they are packed with builders. The thing that I'm loving the most is I'm not getting shilled all the time. Let me tell you, it's really difficult to go to these happy hours and these mixers.
When everybody is just jabbing in my ear about how they can get my money to fund their next thing that's already been done 17 times over. So the builders are here and that's not the conversations that they want to have. They are having conversations about, you know, tell me about how
granted why I should build there. What's up with this EVM compatibility? So we've been talking a lot about milk and meta and the L2 that they have there. So lots of branding, lots of, we've got some great branding here at ETH Denver's when you leave the airport. We've got this big
Big Billboard and lots of people have been coming into the Discord as a result of it and asking questions and Joe has been telling them all sorts of great things in our booth. So yeah, the conversations are way better this year. And I can't wait to go on Thursday when the main venue opens.
It is an enormous venue physically and it's all together. Everybody will be in one venue this year, which will be substantially better than what we had in years past, or kind of spread out across a number of blocks and a number of venues. So there, those are my thoughts on each end.
That is awesome. Yeah, it's glad to hear that there's still like a lot of energy there. That's perfect.
You got it. Lots of energy. Well, thank you for coming up and asking the question. Glad that you could join us live from Europe. I know 1230 shoot. That's about what time you just get to your gears going. It seems like this moment is working so hard.
And such late hours or early hours, I guess it might be for you. So thank you, Aid for everything you do. Oh, man, it's, it's, you know, I'm a night owl. So for me, that's easy. What's hard for me was waking up at 9 a.m. 9.30 a.m. to do this today.
I'll say something else about the conversations that I've been having here. I don't know how it is that I always find the Aussies or they find me but yes I have met quite a number of your mates here in the past couple of days and it's
really funny when somebody when I find it Aussie I'm like oh are you are you in Sydney area and I'm like yeah and I'm like well I work with Adrian they're like oh she's the best she's been doing so much and you guys are so lucky to have her working for Algrant so choose to you thank you we do have a fair
very special, tight-knit community in Sydney. And I think Australia is a really interesting community because we've had a big, big coin call for community back in the day.
early teens, I think started in 2013, 2014, and from that, a really bigger Ethereum community grew, and the people who didn't like Bitcoin, but loved Ethereum, really loved innovation,
a bit. So we've been hosting Meetups weekly since 2013 and at the time there were like three Meetup groups that were working very hard to bring this technology to as many people as possible. And now I think in Sydney alone we have
about 20 to 30 group just about crypto and you know the community group from there and we have a really really interesting blockchain scene over here so if you're listening from another space in the universe if you ever come to
Australia you can find your peeps here for sure there's always meetups to go when people to connect with for sure I definitely enjoyed that back in 2016 when I was living there and first met you there that was it was all because of your your meetup so yes I found my peeps enough that like home and oh
So glad we get to do this every week, Adri. It's so wonderful to do. I'll go plus with you the Algonfam each week. We're coming back next week. If I've got this down right, we are going to do it again on Wednesday noon Wednesday.
Yeah, then that's new in UTC, which would be 7 a.m. Eastern time and what time's that gonna be for you?
That's not no one's lying. We're gonna do it on that night slot for me. You always have this discussion. Let's take the flag. It's the night slot, so it's not gonna be in late.
for you guys in the east it's gonna be late for us here for you guys in the west it's gonna be late for for us here in the east. Alright, well we'll get it we'll get it tweeted out we'll get it figured out I always screw it up. Hey, we really got a
I'm doing that now. All right friends. Good, good, good. Anything else from our guests? Any more conversations should be had?
Well, we need them to hit that request button if they want to come in and join us. Otherwise, I think we shall deem this space concluded and you should go get some dinner and I'm going to start my day.
go for walk. All right. All right. We'll, we'll good. Well, thanks once again to our guests for coming up and chatting with us here and we will see you again next week. Thank you. Thanks for having me. Thank you. Bye. Bye. Appreciate it.
looking forward to the announcement of the you know your first cohort. They are very lucky. Yeah indeed. Thanks Aj. Thanks everyone for tuning in. We'll see you next week.
