Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whatever the case may be for wherever you're at. Welcome to the Biddle Bitcoin Twitter space. Excited to have
Is it is it M G am I pronouncing it correctly? I'm G Park from encode to join us to talk about a hackathon that definitively and encode
are working together on to encourage development of big direct Bitcoin integration or CKBTC on the Internet computer. And so welcome. Thanks for joining.
I want to start with, um, G, do you mind just giving some background on who encode is, what your mission is and kind of when you guys got started? So, um, first lucky, thank you for inviting me to that. It's really exciting.
to meet internal computer community here today. First time I'm in Cout Club, Incut Club is a leading blockchain education community. So we are organizing a lot of different educational programs with the leading tech companies in the spice. There's a different kinds of programs such as that public education
or like it puts camps, hackathons or accelerator both online and in person and these for helping community getting jobs and funding for project and startups and ultimate goal is like having a keep learning community. In 2022 I think we had a 7-year
different education programs across the old different ecosystem. A lot of people who used to be developing in Web 2 but interested in Web 3 into our program to learn more about different technology. Our mission here is like how to say there's a lot of people who
who want to learn a blockchain and it's getting better and better, but still when you're looking for some information, a lot of them are very focused on finance and market only. And when it comes to the pharmaceutical industry, either you need to be very well organized person to follow self-paced learning.
or go through the documentation by yourself. We wanted to provide a playground that hackers, developers or any types of builders come. They can watch the technique workshop, regardless their level. And then once when they want to go into the rabbit hole, like we have a different level of
the courses that they can come and it's with the teacher live session. You have a group work homework so it's giving an opportunity to learn with how to say your fellow groups and having some feedback and have a peer learning experience.
That's awesome. I think that's why encode and affinity are kind of kind of kindred spirits in a way because we both want to convert web to developers into web 3 developers and really brought in and and and doing so brought in the scope of web 3 to
not just to be DeFi or financial, but to actually encompass many aspects of the internet. So it sounds like encode doesn't, I mean you guys support hackathons, but it's not just a, from like an
administrative side. You guys look at it more from a complete picture of education and onboarding and providing resources within the hackathon to ensure that developers have what they need to actually make the most of the hackathon.
Exactly, like a hackathon in the end itself is not just about having boundaries on hackers or building it. In the end, it should have a very great experience that hackers come with limited knowledge, then they should have some workshops that are helping them to build something.
make them understanding about his better and the whole ecosystem. If we had experienced there should be also some kind of advanced topic is ready there. You know they can learn and meet other friends and then building even like a more difficult one. Although like when we are starting
the hackathon we are in contact with our partners, especially this time with the Diffinity team, shaping some concepts together, and when it comes to the bounty and workshops, we are discussing curriculum together so that in which stage what level of hackers can join and building.
Perhaps we can unfold more detail later, but especially like this time, we have a bit of bit coming thing, which is like a unfamiliar to many hackers. So we've been discussing a lot with the Diffinity team and paired amazing workshops. So we will be sharing more detail.
Yeah, yeah, I'm really I'm actually really excited for this hackathon primarily for for that reason that that direct integration with Bitcoin opens up a lot of doors, but yeah, before we get into that, I did want to ask you know, so
For encode what other past successes have you guys had in terms of just running education sessions and hackathons. Is there anything you can point to that kind of gives an idea of the scope of your team?
Sure. So it depends on how you see the success, but of course there are some obvious success stories like the hackers who ran through our ecosystem getting a job and/or the race to funding. We're not that successful recently. I'm very proud of this. Exactly what
One year ago we went to the Amsterdam giving a workshop to people and that time in the audience. I still remember there was a lady who was asking questions about workshops and education program. After that I actually joined our small community boot camp and she was learning and after that she
start to appear in different hackathons we were hosting. And then just like months ago, she joined like an open-line legislation architect. Such as we see that hackers were going through our ecosystem over the year and they're going through the different learning experience. They join maybe with a different background knowledge.
And they go through different education programs to learn and practice. And then finally, afterwards, they're building there. And so far, there's one our hacker who joined the affinity team as well recently. So, well, I guess I won't dox anyone.
love that story. I love those stories of, and I think this kind of gets to the core of what encode is doing is it's not about just having the one time hackathon and then people participate and then they move on their ways. It sounds like this is more of an ongoing journey where you might see participants participate in multiple hackathons,
their skills, developing new products, and then leading towards either a product that they want to then focus on full time or maybe actually get some of the introductions into the community or the foundations that there might be job openings for. Yeah, exactly. When you're looking to it,
like previous hackathon or so winners not only winners like how to sell it when you start to submit some projects it's not like a winners are only getting the shine but actually all the judges are going through all the projects means that they're going to see certain companies you build a very interesting one or your names can
And it would be multiple like appearing in their view because you may be joined the Sponova Hackathon last time. What I could try and do on it. You also join another Internet Computer Hackathon. Then I could just start to like hear your name and they see your progress, your interest within the ecosystem. And then you may get opportunity to get a job in definitely from
or maybe one of the ecosystem partners, we can have a lot of workshops coming from ecosystem projects and then you see that, oh, I'm interested in Orally, then you may join their team and building Oracle's together. All those opportunities are open up or you may become that project as well. So, fun thing is,
They come back maybe in the office as a sponsor and then they're giving a workshop to like next hackers. So you see that like in our community hackers are going through different fights and then we have a look at different types of education program which is supporting people in that fight.
I think that that concept of the putting in work as almost like a hobby or as part of like a hackathon or something like that and then that leading to a full-time job in a career field that you're you're passionate about. I think that's a uniquely that's like a
a uniquely Web 3 concept or at least Web 3 has really adopted that. I know for my own backstory, that was my story as I was analyzing data on the internet computer, you know, late at night, you know, instead of sleeping and posting about it and then definitively liked what I was doing and said would you like to come
time. So anyone listening here, if you're interested in a Web 3 full-time job, again, it's doing things in your free time. That's the way to get, and then publicizing it, that's the way to get noticed. And it sounds like encode is seeing that same pathway for
for a lot of participants and the hackathons. So let's dive in. I'm really excited for this. I've always thought Bitcoin, direct Bitcoin integration on the Internet computer is a game changer for crypto in general. And from my perspective, it just opens up so many unique
cases that were never possible before in Web 3 or in crypto in general. And so I'm really excited for this. Do you mind giving like a background on like what is what is the high level of Biddle Bitcoin, the hackathon and you know kind of the details of it?
Hey, so a little bit kind as you can from the name right away. This is like the hackathon for the people like for interested in like a you know internet computer ecosystem, but also because with the like a new kind of smart contract like integrated Bitcoin network, they write
you can unlock a lot of features which means they're going to be new as like I just mentioned like a new opportunities to discover and explore the rounds which maybe some obvious solution could be okay new types of like the file use case
coming with all the nurses like the oldest NFTs, like you can make maybe like a better easier transaction using IC network, all those kind of new opportunities we want to explore while we understand that this is like a still quiet and familiar
concept so we prepared a lot of different shops. First thing is like I wanted to share like our bounty structure so there's a game mainly two different bounty if you have followed internet computer hackathons perhaps you're quite familiar with the blue skystrike
So there's like a two different type of
main track and one is blue skystrike. Main track is focused on our main concept about the Bitcoin. So actually, you know, internet copy comes in and it's a Bitcoin. It's a creative integration and try to use new potential Bitcoin and building some solutions without like a hustles. So the
like you can literally take perks of the IC and try to building some smart contracts on top of it. On the other hand, we also understand that like you're interested in ICAC system but not that familiar with Bitcoin and there's a Keblusky strike which is more open to beginners as well.
And you can learn about ICX system and building something on top of it. Regarding the Bitcoin, you are interested in your rather new. We have prepared multiple workshops around. One of the workshop is if you are not used to build something on blockchain,
We have a workshop at the first one after the launch event is like a work with ASL. So either you learn like a JavaScript or like a Python different web to language, there's already SDK prepared so that you can easily start to build something. And then if you already know Rust a little bit or interested in like native language like
talk about basic first-tag approach, how motor kind like a 10 you can build with a pile. Afterwards, you can learn about a rust canister. Maybe some of you, this is a new concept, canister, what is the difference between a typical smart contract you learn from other
VM time, but they'll like it will kind of strength, canisters brings in. And then if you're familiar with the in-gen block chain, but not ICP, also we are sharing some insights how you can connect to EVM and ICP canisters and try to communicate between two different networks, what kind of approach you can
and open it up with this opportunity. And of course, one of the most important topics coming in is Bitcoin integration. This will be sharing how it's enabled and what kind of things you can build on top of it. It can be followed by you can try building workysick bit.
or very famous use case now like the old inels. So it's going to show like a kind of things you can do on top of the internet computer. So like the old in the market place can be used as one of the use case to introduce. Of course, this is like one of the use cases like we want to introduce so they use
can try and maybe building something around but we are also very excited to see anything like completely nobody have thought about. And then even though you think that it doesn't make sense and who gonna use it we want to see some wild use cases that we can explore around.
So it sounds like there's really two reasons why somebody should participate in the hackathon. First of all, you're going to get some incredible access to educational material. You mentioned Asel, Demergence Labs is the company behind
And asal, which allows anyone to write TypeScript on the Internet computer. And so it sounds like you'll have access to Jordan last, who's the CEO there. That's phenomenal. I do know that I've seen some of the more prominent players within the Internet computer ecosystem.
saying that they will be hosting workshops for the Biddle hackathon. So you'll get access to some incredible talent and know-how and then also there's prizes, right, for the winner. Do you mind going over those prizes? Yes, just like wanting to ask, even though AIDS always self is for types of scrapes, the immersion, laps team, or
has the other solution, Kai Bra which you can use if you know Python as well. So like a regardless which language you used to build before, build with before, please join and it can give you a nice idea on how to build with the language you already know well. Regarding the
Bounty structure. First, everyone knows that Internet corridor always prepare a very nice package of the boundaries. This time, again, we have two different tracks. Not only Bounty is under the tracks, we also share a
small account is around. All the details are on the website. I would recommend re-through because this can be a little bit complicated just by lessening. But first, track means you're going to get like a 5000 in ICP and then there's potential of getting like 25,000 definitive all-approgrants which
If you want to see perhaps more detail, it's like written on documents. The second place can be like 3000 in ICP and then 5000 Diffinity Developer Grant and third place winner gonna get 1000, which is same for the main track and plus sky track. So even though you don't know so well about Bitcoin and rather even your beginner,
Don't hesitate to join the Blowskid track because it's as attractive as the main track. And then the second thing is like there's additional price coming in. So regardless to the track, there are going to be like a specific use cases we're going to look into and the overwinners like from both
try going to get some extra extra either like how to say that solo standing price. One is best use case of like chain key signature and then second one going to be best use of HTTPS out cold and then third going to be best use of Omnick. So regardless which
track you are building, even though your maybe solution is not most like a you know like you finished or like a complicated product for each track. If it's showing the best use is of these three different features, you are entitled to get winning some side prizes and each of them is like a thousand in ICP.
That's awesome. Two awesome reasons to join prizes and free education. I will say if you're interested, if this is peaking your interest, but you don't have an idea, we did host a Twitter space last week on the Definity account so you can find it in the Definity Twitter
In which all we did was brainstorm ways in which the internet computer and Bitcoin can be used together in unique for unique products We arranged anything from Ordinals and BRC 20 tokens to how Bitcoin could be controlled by a Dow to products that may be focused on
Bitcoin as a database as what you might call the forever database is maybe a database that will outlive all other existing databases and having smart contracts right to that database can be extremely powerful from a product perspective. So give that that Twitter space to listen if you're looking for ideas.
So what makes for a good hackathon submission? What should people be focused on during the hackathon season? There's a different thing I'd love to share. One is like a judging criteria of the boundaries.
And second thing is like a general like a tips how to prepare the handkerchief submission. First like a judging criteria. There's kind of like a mainly five different things you're just going to be looking into one is like a kind of wild factor, let's say. What is the wild factor of the idea like it does have a potential?
So like this is something bring like if you have some innovative ideas there or like something a cambial used afterwards. The second thing is like of course we are building like a technical product here using technology. So what is the quality of the technical design or source code? And then the third is the input.
So if you can store some problem, if you're addressing well, if you're going to be using it, and then the fourth thing is this like a actually usable how far you have gone or the library is like what kind of things integrated well.
and so on. And then the last thing going to be a funny name like an IC super powers. So how these will utilize the powers of the internet computer. So if you utilize the internet computer, perhaps well, or like it feels like it's still not yet like a very simple project, but
It's not using the superpowers of the internet computer. Well, then you may get some feedback on some. Before going to the second one, so to tip also around this one, perhaps all these judging criteria and especially given the fact that this is quite new concept of the hackathon.
You may be wondering, what kind of like a internet computer superpower I need to unlock this time to be integrated with my network? What should I focus on? Think about technically what kind of thing is considered as a good design. Am I going in the right direction? Don't hesitate to come to the office hours in the
This is important time like you can go there and ask questions directly and get some live answers. So this is the first, judging criteria. And second, what makes great hack
sub-mission is more like a general thing, not about the criteria itself, but make your project submission shine. First is like a please write great with me file, so like when you're submitting your sub-content code base, you don't need to write down like fully flatched great with me, but at least like a clear
structure of the with me showing that what this project is about, what kind of technology you will use, what kind of technology you will focus on. This will be helping judges to focus on that aspect you want to appeal. As you can imagine, judges cannot go through line by line, so if you say that like you know my
focus on like technical design.
was a B.C. part.
You need to write down so that judges can see that. And second thing is of course when you make a video, try to fix this and making a short video, not quite though you'll put a trick into the project and try to explain
points of technical design you want to share instead of going through every detail like a what-it-button means about. And then the last thing would be go and calculate to ask
as well as the first before making any submissions. You're going to have four weeks of building and in between our program manager going to be
available to having a one-on-one course. You can actually come and ask even between your progress. My project is stuck here. Can I do something about that? I'm building an instruction and what do you think about it? You can get some feedback too. So please utilize this one and this is going to help you to make
So make your product unique. Think outside the box. Have a great easy way for judges to understand your product. Try to launch your product to have an actual working demo and.
And take full advantage of all the resources that are being provided through the hackathon is kind of all the four major ways to increase your chances of winning. So let's get into the details. And you mentioned it's a four-week program.
So the hackathon is like start 20 second of May. You can register ready and 20 second of May we're going to have a lunch event in the first workshop by the emergency labs which can be entered to Internet Computer and ASL.
This can be four weeks going between the submission deadline comes on June 8th, Sunday. Traditionally, in contact we received the submissions on Sunday because we know that every weekend counts. You want to build the last minute.
Afterwards, we're going to have some same judging period, which means you're going to be waiting till our judge is going through all the submissions and their final is going to be invited to the final event. After the final event, we're going to have a live judging session and prize-giving events going to be happening 5th of July.
Who's going to be a busy summer? For so where should people go? I mean, I after listening to this, I've got to imagine there's people out there who are interested in participating.
should they go to register and to get more information? So actually if you are a mobile phone, if you see the Lucky, how to set it, the thread, like a on-duty, switcher space thread, encoder,
The name is really lucky. I love the message that Inca Club, you know, this, how to say that like a registration form. In the other case, you can also come to the Inca Club webpage in the hackathon page. You will see that there is
second bit of Bitcoin hack at the time, you can click and you can register as well.
So how to start I think I really like a penny by myself now, but you can see that like a Inkot Club accounts really love to comments of the sign up page.
Yep, I'll go ahead and get that pinned up as well. In terms of, so there's the, so they can register at encode.com/internetcomputer. There's a hyphen in between Internet computer. There's in the comments.
There's also a link. And then in terms of staying in touch, I know there's a discord channel. Is there any other ways that people should go about getting more information?
First, let me just like a walkthrough of how the journey can be. So if hackers register to the hackathon, you will receive the message that you have been registered with your team code. If you are the first
one who is registering. And then you can hear your team call. Under your team. If someone like joined the hackathon already and if team up afterwards, it's also fine if you let us know we can emerge your team. After all,
like a gap registered you will save all the information about upcoming workshops in our Heikapak. If you go to our Heikapak,
I'm not going to be explaining all the basic information. I was talking about all the bound explanation, that resources and then also how to submit.
are going to join our Discord server and also definitely Discord server. There's like two different things you can expect from there. First is in Discord
the Internet Computer 1.
If you are a photographer or not, every Wednesday there is a office that is helping developers building on internet computer ecosystem. So perhaps you are going to get regular
the support on your learning and building. And then at the ink, click the bit.1, you're going to get to those private channels directly. And then there, you can see the A, the other hackers were joining, so you can recruit
the team members. So if you join as a lucky, I don't know, like I'm front end and you know, who are super interested in internet computer, but I don't know to build a smart contract. If you just write that down, perhaps some smart contract developer are going to be approaching to you and you can team up and be all the hackathon related logists
questions even feedback if you're sharing in the hour forum like our program manager going to answering and also because you joined whenever like some events is happening or some ad hook office our opportunity happening we're going to be announcing and you will get attacked so you will get the old notification
That's great. Wow. We've covered a lot in this space and is there, did we miss on anything? I feel like I feel like we pretty much covered the entire thing, but I want to give you a chance if there's any topic we failed to mention.
on. I think all the basic information about the hackathons, how to submit a good project has been uncovered.
And then also like a workshop topics I did like we explained like a lot about this hack if someone have a question I if someone has a question I'm more than happy to answer otherwise I did we covered everything
Well, I really appreciate your time. So you can see the encode Twitter account in this in this space, give them a follow and in case in case you can't see when you're if you're listening after it's just at encode code.
club, give them a follow to stay up to date on not just this Twitter not just this hackathon, but future hackathons as well. And MGI really do appreciate your time and and encodes involvement in this. And I look forward to seeing all the projects that come out of this hackathon.
I'm super excited and especially this is happening next week. We are super excited to see all the hackers. If you're interested, please like sign up and don't miss the launch events. We're going to have some definitive team coming for sharing the
teams and also interesting workshop which I'm very excited to see how ASL and fiber we can use so that regardless what kind of texts you have you can jump in right into the Internet Computer ecosystem.
Excellent, excellent. Thank you everyone for your time. And again, follow up on this, learn how to build on the Internet computer, build some amazing apps with directly integrating with Bitcoin, and I look forward to seeing what you produce.
Have a good day.
What's up? Have a good day. Looking forward to see you.
