Okay, should we get started?
Let me just check, as always, if everything is working.
On Twitter seems to be the case.
And let me check the YouTube. Yeah, it's good.
Okay, thank you everyone for joining.
Welcome to another episode of the Masa Community Live.
This week we're going to be presenting not only a new topic,
but also a new platform that has been in the works for a while.
I'm joined by Joao, head of marketing,
and by Sebastien, founder of Masa Network
and the CEO of Masa Foundation.
And yeah, some of you guys might have been expecting something
like this for quite a while, and it's finally here.
The Masa governance platform is our way to enable token holders to actively participate in the decision-making processes on the network.
Whether it's going to be protocol upgrades, funding proposals, community initiatives, or any other decision that we can make with the community,
this is going to be your chance to have a real impact directly on the community and the network in general down the line.
Introduce yourself if you need to and let us know what's happening.
Yeah, no, I'm Seb, so head of the Massa Foundation.
I'm excited by this governance thing.
Up to now, it was mainly the team and Damien and myself
making most of the big decisions.
But I think it's time to get the community involved in this
and have more power to shape the future of MESA, basically.
have more power to shape the future of MESA, basically.
So yeah, we made a proposal on the forum a while ago,
I think at the end of the year, last year.
We described the way we wanted to do this governance on chain.
We had a few weeks of discussions
and people getting feedback.
And so we implemented a first version with Damir and the team.
And so we were gonna do a demo today.
Maybe we can dig a little bit deeper into some topics
and I can ask some questions that might be of interest for the community before we go into the demo.
Yeah, I think, first of all, you already kind of touched on this point a little bit.
But, yeah, for a decentralized network to be truly decentralized, I think the community should have a say in some of the decisions that go on and the direction that the chain heads in.
So, to me, that's probably one of the reasons that we would need a platform like this.
But why did you guys specifically for any other reasons want to have an on-chain governance platform?
So, yeah, most blockchains have some sort of governance mechanism.
You know, the goal there is to make important decisions about the future of the chain together as a community.
And also to avoid that one developer team or one foundation holds too much power.
So in blockchain sometimes there is an explicit voting mechanism where you go and vote with your tokens or with the governance token.
Sometimes it's more implicit voting, like in Bitcoin.
As a miner, you can support new updates
just by installing the new node.
And sometimes it's even less formal,
like with Ethereum, where you can have different teams
argue about an EIP for some time
until some sort of consensus is emerging.
So in Masa, we want something like that, but
yeah, we always wanted to implement a clear protocol where the voting is a bit more explicit
and you can participate in the decision as a community member and also to have a bit
as a community member and also to have a bit less power to the team for shaping the future.
And why on-chain? Because for us doing it on-chain is the best way to really know what people want
without relying on who is making the most off-chain noise, and also without arguing forever.
So yeah, when we vote on chain, we
know exactly how many people, how many voting power
there is on one side and on the other side,
and it's just more transparent.
Yeah, and on this topic as well, what
are some other points that might be different from some
of the other voting protocols that other chains might have
that differentiates us a little bit?
So we will vote explicitly on proposals.
That's not usually the case.
We'll use a new governance token that will be sourbound.
So you can't buy it, you can't transfer it.
And this way, you really need to be in the community for a while to have voting power.
And another thing is that updates won't be automatic.
So let's say we vote to change the block size.
Then Masa Labs or anyone else can publish a new version of the code with a new block size.
And we will coordinate the deployment.
But it's not automatic in the code.
Yeah, that's another difference.
So the Solbon token definitely makes sense.
How do you think this will shape how the voting power will be distributed between users?
I think some users just by looking at other chains might be worried that maybe the foundation
or a single person or one of the top token holders is going to be the one that can make
all of the decisions on the governance platform. How are we going to combat this?
So yeah, the voting power will be directly proportional to how many mass OG tokens you hold.
So this mass OG is a new Solban governance token.
So the more you stake, the more tokens will be minted to your address.
I think it will be like one mass OG per cycle, so per half an hour.
If you have one role, if you have 10 roles, then 10 MAS OG per cycle.
And to pass a proposal, we need at least 50% of the full MAS OG supply to vote yes. So it's not easy to make it, and it's also a way to stabilize
so that there's not too many updates back and forth.
So you really need half of the voting power
to say yes to something so that we pass it.
OK, that sounds pretty good.
And just instantly to me, it also kind of looks
like a filtering mechanism to make sure
that the people that are voting or proposing things
are people that are actually quite deep in the community
and that they can't abuse the system for it.
How do you think this will play out in practice
once it's live for users?
How do you think it will evolve the ecosystem
or some of the decision-making?
This is just a first phase,
which is about updating blockchain parameters,
like the block size, number of threads, block reward, whatever.
we also want to implement voting
for giving support to grant proposals, because that's
also something that was asked by the community. And so both of these will be important and
can have a large impact, I think. But also for it to work well and have a good impact,
we need a good participation from the community,
both in discussions and in voting.
MIGUEL MIRCHANDANI- Makes sense.
And maybe are there any other safety measures
that we can talk to people about, some ways
that we can avoid that certain proposals get pushed forward
be off topic or with unrelated topics to anything that's covering MASA in general?
So yeah, the main point is this 50% barrier. But other than that, the MAS OG themselves,
so the tokens are distributed gradually over time and nobody can buy them.
So if you are a whale from outside, you cannot come and buy a large part of the voting power, then vote, then sell the tokens afterwards.
So that's one safety, the fact that it's solvonned and distributed slowly.
Also against spam, there will be a minimum balance
of I think 1000 mass OG just to be able to create a proposal.
And also you will burn 1000 mass tokens
Yeah, also the consequences of the vote are not automatic.
So someone has to publish a new version of the node
and people need to install it.
So this gives room to recover, let's say,
from the hack of the governance contract.
I think even just 1,000 MOSS in order to be able to push a vote
is probably enough to keep some people away
Are there any other interesting technical things
that you would like to discuss about it?
One thing is that we went for a bit simplified version
compared to the first proposal I made in the forum.
So we removed some complex things like nodeGNS function
And you can see it in the forum thread.
Damien specified the details.
I sent the link on the conversation, by the way.
Other than that, one cool thing is that
autonomous smart contracts will be there.
They will be used to go from one phase of the vote to the next one.
So we have a discussion phase, discussion period.
Then when it's done, there is a voting period.
go from one to the other, we will have autonomous smart contracts. So no need for an admin to
Okay. Awesome. Thank you very much for all of your answers, sir. And yeah, I think we
can start heading into the demo. So we will be performing a live demo of the platform,
showing you guys how it works from A to Z.
And we'll go over all of the steps
that you will need to follow
if you wanna create a proposal or vote on proposals.
If anything is unclear while we are doing this,
feel free to ask a question in chat.
And if we can, if we have a few seconds
in between things on the demo, we will try to reply to it,
especially if it's something that's important.
I think I shared my screen.
It's coming now. Can you guys see it on your end?
So yeah, this is the platform as it looks like right now.
So I think obviously you connect with your wallet, Massa Wallet, Massa Station,
So that's on BuildNet, I connected my Massa Station.
It's a test, so we have a lot of MassOG here.
40 billion I have a 30,000,000,000,000,000,000. I have 20% of the voting power.
So you can see everything here.
I guess you guys also have 20%.
So we will be able to press proposals with the three of us.
Yeah, just for testing purposes.
So you can see the number of proposals,
number of votes, link to the forum.
And I will just go and write and create a proposal.
Otherwise, there's not much to do here.
So when you create a proposal, you have a minimum balance.
You need a minimum balance of MasoG and Masa.
1000 Masa will be burned.
In this test, they put one MasoG as required balance.
And here we provide a few information let's say I want to increase the block size I would I put a random link.
So the idea would be that you first describe your proposal on the forum, see why you want this,
the arguments for or maybe against,
I guess you have more for arguments.
But it's not an obligation, right?
You can post a proposal without going through the...
No, we made it so that you have to create a forum link.
Or at least you have to put a link here to the forum.
So that the discussions, we know where the discussions will happen mostly.
Of course, we can discuss anywhere, but on the forum link,
you will create a proposal
so it kind of centralized to the discussion can be easier.
You put a summary and the actual,
the call of the proposal is what you want to change.
So here that there will be a list of parameters.
The list is not yet there.
I want to increase the block size.
And I create the proposal.
Right now, you don't see that I'm signing
so that's happening on chain you will need maybe 30 seconds to have the proposal created.
OK, just quickly while we're waiting for this,
I saw that Blockhunter was asking if Certic
will get involved with the governance system,
and if it could potentially increase our score
We can definitely check this most likely
once it's live on mainnet.
I think we can reach out to them
and get them to take a look.
Yeah, we don't need them to be active
in the process whatsoever, but they can review it.
Okay, the proposal is here.
Just click on it. So in this test right now we have a five minute discussion period. That's pretty fast. And so I can show you a bit around.
After this discussion period, there is a five minute voting period.
So for the discussion, for the main page of the proposal, you see what it's all about.
Maybe we're missing the link. No, it's here. The discussion, the forum discussion link.
And on the right, you can see voting, what happened with the vote, so nothing yet because
we are still in discussion.
You can see the supply of mass OG.
And you will the acceptance ratio
that's 50% of the national G total supply.
This is just for the test.
You won't have this nature in the mainnet version.
It's for us to go faster if we want.
If there are no questions or no comments, I can...
No, no, Blockhunter was asking how we can protect the forum from spamming, but as we were saying, you spend 1,000 mass to post any proposal,
and you also need to have a minimum of mass OG.
Yeah, but on the forum, there is moderation, basically.
On the forum, there is moderation.
And then the governance platform is kind of a solution
to that problem, to be honest.
Because no matter what people decide
to comment on the forum, the actual votes
So you have people putting their money in the right place
Um, while we wait, just, uh, shoot out to Massa Labs and Ben in particular who made most of it.
And Ben in particular, who made most of it.
So this frontend and the smart contracts.
So there's a main smart contract.
There's also a smart contract oracle
that gives the number of roles everyone has
everyone has to mint the message.
So I used my business admin rights to go faster.
And yes, we are now in voting period.
And so we have vote yes, okay? We discussed a lot.
Yeah, so now we should see it on our end also.
Yeah. Yeah, so now we should see it on our end also.
Should see this voting status.
So I can say yes, no, blank.
But the most important is that it's yes or no. Yes, no, blank.
But the most important is that it's yes or not yes. Only the yes counts.
My transaction should be going now. Yeah, same. Mine should be true.
Okay, yeah, we have the three of us already.
So the one thing to note is that the counts of the votes is here it's an estimation but it's
really done at the end of the period because you know the mass log can increase in between
slightly so they are counted it's not showing as accepted,
though it will probably be accepted.
It will show as accepted only at the end of the period
and count the votes, the final votes.
So same, I will just fast forward.
I was wondering who voted no. It was Ben.
I was like, what is this?
And it should show as accepted now.
I have the same as you, he's still voting.
Ben will confirm that maybe I can't bypass this one
because it's taking the votes at the end, I guess.
Yeah, there is again Blockhunter that is asking if the forum is moderated by centralized
organization, quote unquote, and we are required
to use it, can that limit the freedom of speech?
Yeah, I think to me in an ideal world, eventually there could be a possibility where the managers,
like all of the people that are making sure that the moderation is done properly can also
be voted by the community.
So ultimately there would be solutions,
but some minimum level of moderation
Yeah, but if you don't like the forum,
you can also fork it, create your own forum,
use any other place to discuss
if you want to be a moderator or some other areas.
if you want to be a moderator or some more areas.
So it's, yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, that's a good point.
So yeah, technically you're not required to use it.
Like you can go just to the smart contract,
but it's what we ask for things to work properly.
And yeah, we will announce when the proposals are in discussion or are in voting periods in case you miss it you don't
need to go to the to the governance platform every week to check who will announce it yeah
And so in the next version, it will be an autonomous smart contracts which go from here
I think Ben is working on it. the smart contracts which go from here to the next phase.
I think Ben is working on it. What will be the voting period, by the way?
If I remember correctly, we said two weeks
of discussion period and one week of voting period.
We should check the forum.
No, we said three weeks of discussion, one week of voting period.
Guys, you can still give feedback on that. Okay, we're almost there.
I'm not sure I understand the question.
Where can I fund this governance?
What exactly do you mean?
If you need the tokens to vote?
Either it's found or find maybe.
I think maybe he wasn't here in the beginning of the live stream.
So he didn't hear how the tokens work.
Maybe. So if it's about the tokens, I'll do a quick recap.
We have a new, OK, it's fine.
So this platform, we will send you
the link when we start a beta test with you, with the community.
So for now, we are not sending it to you. Next week, we will send you a link.
It will still be on build.net,
but it will be a short beta for you to give us feedback
before the mainnet release.
release. And yeah, this is accepted as expected. So you see here. So now nothing happened on
chain apart from this contract switching the status to accepted. And if we had this proposal accepted,
then I would call probably Masa Labs
to set up to do this change in the config file.
But of course, anyone can do it.
If Damir doesn't want to do it.
You can fork the code and add this.
And then we have to coordinate, of course,
to release that version together.
So I guess that's it for the demo.
Yeah, sounds good. Yeah, yeah.
And everything is uploaded also on the homepage.
So you have the proposal, you have the total votes.
This one just is also accepted it became green so that's nice
but the spam that questions about the spam resistance still
yeah good point about the malicious URL.
I don't know, maybe either we force the URL starting with forum.commit.masa.
I don't want to enforce using the forum, but maybe it's better for safety for the link.
Maybe it's something that we can vote on.
Yeah, but we are not going to do three weeks' votes
for voting about the voting process for the votes.
But yeah, also, you touched on the beta period.
So the general idea with this is that we would start it next week.
We would probably run it for about a week or whatever
the necessary time period would be.
So people would be able to give us some feedback on the platform
and help us refine it a little bit.
Hopefully there won't be too much to fix
because it already looks pretty good to me, but we'll see what the people think as well.
And during the beta period, we were also thinking of doing a bug bounty campaign.
So if users notice any bugs,
anything really obvious that maybe we haven't seen while testing it,
you guys will be able to send all of these to a form where you will basically be able to add your address.
You'll be able to describe the issue that you found and potentially add some screenshots,
videos or anything else that might be necessary to show us the kind of bug that you found so we can try to reproduce it.
We're going to have probably a total pool of around 10,000
mos for this, and we're thinking of around 200 mos per valid
per valid submission that people are doing,
and hopefully there won't be too many of them.
But if there are a lot, we'll figure out how to reward all of the people
how to reward all of the people that are going to be helping us debug the platform.
that that are going to be helping us debug the platform.
And yeah, then after that, platform will hopefully be launched on mainnet after we figure out
anything else that might need some fixing. And it will become a central tool, obviously,
for the Masa ecosystem and will allow you guys to influence important decisions about the chain.
As a future roadmap step, we're going to also enable more important decisions. So things such
as bounties, grants, or anything else that might change the blockchain in a major way,
will be available a little bit later down the line. But for now, you'll still be able to do
a lot of things that will definitely affect the community.
And yeah, Seb, do you have anything else that you want to add about the vision maybe?
How do you see this evolving down the line?
Yeah, I think the bounties and grants,
that side is very important.
And one way to use governance for that is to have the
community so people want to grant do a proposal and then the community should
support or not but I think that Damien and I had a vision for even further than
that which would be to if people are interested in the community,
to have small DAOs or small groups that would themselves give out grants.
So we could grant a group from the community who wants to manage a small pool of grants or funds
for the community itself. I think that would be great so that we are not the
only one giving grants out or also that we don't need to vote everything for any single grant or for small grants on chain
that would be another way so we continue to think about this and let you know yeah definitely i i
think we do our best internally with the team to figure out new bounties that are interesting
that leverage all of our aspects of our technology
we do our best to filter through all of the grant proposals that come in and then to help those projects manage themselves and get the market on the chain but yeah it would be really
cool to also get some more feedback from the community directly to see exactly where
they would want the division to move or as you said in the DAO alternative to have organized groups that can take care of this.
Can we vote on reducing not-reward inflation to less than two percent?
Of course we can vote anything and I know there was a proposal around reducing block rewards
so that would be an interesting first case for governance.
Just to say it again, anybody can create a proposal.
And you just need a bit of masa to burn
and a bit of Masoji to show that you've been there for a while.
And yeah, for now, you guys will have to wait some more days.
But hopefully next week, we can release
a lot of content that is going to describe everything
you can do on the platform, give you the link,
and then leave it in your hands to start testing.
So we'll make sure to have announcements about all of this afterwards.
Can we vote to see Seb more in the community calls than active in the community?
You can just send me a telegram message.
Yeah, send him a DM if you miss him.
send them a DM if you miss them.
Do you have any closing statements, Seb?
Just excited to see how it will play out
and to have the committee a bit more active also
and on the forum, and to see you there
and discuss these important topics.
And yeah, if you guys have any other direct questions to Seb,
you can reach out in the MASA group and try to ping him
if it's something general or if you want to talk to him in private, I'm sure you can reach out in the Masa group and try to ping him if it's something
general or if you want to talk to him in private, I'm sure you can find them as well. Otherwise,
you can also reach out through me and we'll make sure that your message gets through.
And yeah, just some closing statements from me as well. So for next week, we will have hopefully a pretty big
community live with a pretty big name in Web3. You might have seen something about them in the
MASA governance platform. Maybe you can look back in the video and you'll figure it out.
But yeah, we will confirm this as well in the next days, hopefully, or sometime next week.
It should be pretty cool.
And then after that, we have a lot more ecosystem projects that are going to be coming out.
So in two weeks, hopefully, we will have something really big
to show you guys that is going to be launched on Masa,
hopefully, at the end of the month.
There's a lot of other exciting things.
So, for example, Evobots, if you've taken a look at them
in the ecosystem recently and you follow their project, they've evolved a lot. The game has kept getting better. They have
a questing platform right now. They're even figuring out interesting new ways to do auto
quests, so they can keep increasing their engagement on the platform. And the cool part
about all of this is that they will also be helping with a lot of new wallet creation on
chain and hopefully bringing new users from outside of our ecosystem, from other blockchains
or even from Web2 sources. So we're working on plans to keep working with them
closely to integrate them into other projects in the ecosystem and have like a
nice game theory, game plan for new people that are joining MASA so they can
have things that they can do on chain
so a lot of that is going to be coming soon as well
yeah i think that's about it for now okay thank you daniel thank you thank you sebastian as well thank you ben also yes thank you for all the help you guys thank you block hunter for being here with all the questions also and yeah i'll see you guys next week i think um oh he's also asking about the new wallet. Yeah, about the new wallet.
So the mobile wallet is going to be entering a beta period soon.
Right now, we're basically doing some last tests on the current version that was delivered.
And hopefully, we can also do something similar to the Masa governance beta test,
where you guys can test it out, give us any feedback,
and we'll work together with you to make sure that it's in a solid state. On other wallet topics, I remember people asking me about
Wallet Connect, Trust and some other ones. I've just gotten in contact with Wallet Connect,
so I will be having some conversations with them in the next weeks and
I will give you any updates if there's anything relevant about it.
But I know that people were asking about that a lot.
Okay, BlockHunter seems to be happy.
Thank you, guys, very much.
Hope everyone has a good day,
and we'll see you next week with another episode.
