I was listening to a podcast last night while I was working on some stuff for my mama and
It was a I forget what it's called diary of a CEO and this dude was interviewing a divorce attorney and
He was uh, he was he asked the you know, the question he said
How do you know like if a couple is gonna make it through like, you know, what are the signs that y'all are about to get?
Divorced and he said if you have to go to you know marriage council or divorce attorney
Because the problem started from the little things he was basically saying the little things are the things that add up over time
You know the little the little
Lives that we tell each other or the little annoyances that we don't address those things actually
lead to the bigger issues down the road because
Essentially what it means is that if you're not willing to state, you know
If you're not willing to address those issues they linger they fester it becomes more difficult to address them later
Because you know all of a sudden if you'd start addressing it it becomes a much bigger issue
It's better to start, you know in the beginning like if you know, if you're a lady, you know, maybe she maybe she snores in her sleep
You know I'm saying you might need to address that issue early on as opposed to later, you know saying something like that
For all relationships, right? Like if you don't discuss something and you don't address something then you end up fostering resentment

So, okay, so let's let's uh, I I'm fascinated by your project. I was looking at it yesterday and today
So I think usually what we do in these spaces is we just kind of want to get to know
You know who's behind you know, who's behind the project. And so who exactly am I speaking to right now?
Hey, this is this is Andy. I'm from the UK. So yeah
I'm I'm a creative and I'm a founder of the project. So yeah, I I do all the visual side of it
Maybe you could give us a quick sort of we call it a superhero origin story
But maybe you could give us a quick rundown of you know
Did you grow up they have you have you grown up in the UK your entire life?
And what was that like growing up and and how did you get into you know?
Where you you know how to get into the world of animation this type of stuff where you are now
Sure, man. Yes. So yeah born and bred. I'm a Welsh
In the creative sector since I could pick up a pencil and throw a whole tub of Lego on the floor my bedroom and my mom
It's you know, it goes back. It's the origin of me. I think being creative and doing creative things
So for 22 years 2023 years I've been in the creative sector in the UK
Run an animation studio. I sold the animation studio
Worked for the agency that purchased the animation studio and built myself up through the ranks at that place
Directing of TV commercials radio commercials brands brand evolutions for clients blue chip blue collar
In that time, so that was about 14 years of my career doing doing that and directing illustrating putting
You know brands and character designs together across that space
Covid kind of creeps around and you know
We took a took a bit of a deviation and I set up another creative agency with a great bunch of friends and you know
Henry animals has been a passion project or you know for the last three years really so
But yeah, I've been I've been a creative since day one
Were you so I don't know if you're like me but as a kid
Were you someone who was doodling a lot? Were you always like drawing things and stuff like that?
Yeah, yeah, I keep most of my sketchbooks and I've got stacks and stacks of sketchbooks that have got you know
legacy character design drawings from when I was 12 11 12
up until now, you know, I have I try and
Come probably complete this sketchbook every three months and I've got a specific format. I like I like the a five landscape format and
You know full of character designs full of characters studies or just studies of hands or feet
facial expressions and stuff
So yeah, man, I've always had a sketchbook with me
It's kind of flipped to the iPad now, but I still love paper and the blue pencil. I'll always have
That with me in a little little bag wherever I go. And then if I think it's worth
progressing that idea or that illustration further than I'll take a snapshot of it with the iPad and then continue
refining the illustration if you would in
Inside the iPad to get to ink ink and color stage. So yeah, I always have a sketchbook on
Wow, that's that's really cool man
I because I always hate looking back at stuff
Like I always feel like I don't know
I always feel like I'm the best version of myself now and I and I feel this a little bit of embarrassment
I look at things that I've done in the past but but uh, but that said I will I will say that
There's there when I was learning all the design programs and stuff I came across something that my mom
She was going through old stuff and showed me and I don't know maybe it's maybe as I get older
It's a little bit more nostalgic. It's like oh cool. Like I remember when I did that I was like one of the first things I did
Um, you know and I could see all the flaws in it, but at the same time it's also kind of like
It's kind of cool seeing like where you where you started and then you know
where you are now and like the the vast difference between in terms of like skill set and improvement and
All that kind of stuff, you know, I mean but
I have so many questions for you, man, because so you have all this experience and
Not just like, you know personally animating yourself, but like in running an animation studio, like can you speak more on that? Like what?
You're the first animation studio you rent you said that one lasted for like 20 years. Is that is that is that accurate?
No, the the animation studio
Just let me backtrack a bit into that because it there's a bit of an explanation to how it came about really
Performing puppeteer as well. So I've done tv tv commercial stuff, but i've also been a puppeteer as in performing voice
and sock puppet style thing if you think jim hansen's creature workshop style vibe then yeah i've been there
And that evolved into me teaching in a in an art college teaching animation in an art college
and from that we had an opportunity to
And train them in flash when flash was cool
um, uh 2d flash animation software
We we trained them up and we got them doing
2d animation series work for a uk, uh broadcaster
That ran for about four years before we were bought out by the agency. I ended up working for 20 years
so it's so it's all interlinked but um
Yeah, it was a fun fun journey
But essentially what I would do is, you know direct with my co-founder would would direct the commercials tv commercials and the animated series episodes
And and then do all the after effects stuff all the post-production putting all the layers together and making it look look sweet. So
I I want to backtrack a little bit and I feel like every it's like this onion that's opening up but um
How does one become a a puppeteer i've always wondered that like is there
A school for that like how does that even how does that even happen?
It's usually um, if you go to drama school or theater theater school, you'll you'll get an opportunities to do
varying types of performance
Performing arts, so the visual arts
um, but I I did it sort of a
A bit left field really so when I was in
University when I was in college in university
We had an opportunity to do an alternative media course or an alternative media module
and I decided to make a music video
with puppets who were a band and they
rated live action people's
The gay crash the the party of an evening. So we did a whole music video about this
kind of beastie boys hip-hop band
Some girls and rated a party as a puppeteer and and that was just an off the back of us
Films like the dark crystal and and the muppets show
So we just thought why not? Let's do something different and from there
I got an audition with a production company in in wales
A production that they were doing that turned out to be the largest
Puppet production in europe and I think it still is classed as the largest puppet production in europe
So I ended up working on a slew of live action puppet shows
voiceovers and not latex puppets foam puppets the whole the whole works, but I think I just fell into it
Really? It was a it was an interest of mine and I saw something that was different from
Um, because when I was studying in uni, I did stop motion
Now for those that don't know stop motion is frame by frame animation
You move the you move the armature or you move the clay a little bit and you take another shot
You go back to it and move another shot and take a shot and it took freaking ages
And in my mind, I was like I want I want results that are a little bit more instant than one second a day
so I decided to explore puppetry and
Found an avenue and found a production company that were putting on a show and my audition
The rest is history really spent a couple of years doing that
That's fascinating man. That's so cool
Um, so the on the animation side, uh
When you were doing when you were running your animation studio, were you doing?
You know similar to like the type of things that you're doing now
Were you doing like cartoon animations and stuff like that? Or was it stop motion?
Uh cut out animation so you'd have you know, bone bone characters, but essentially they look they were virtual
So the basics though, but then when we when we got commissioned to do the series work that was
Until it cried and asked us for forgiveness
You really we pushed it to the end degrees
There's a there's two shows that we did that were quite prolific once called frankenstein's cat and was for the bbc
And another one was called dusty and musty which was still in development when we left it
But uh, you know, they wanted to produce the entire
Season before they went and sold it into broadcasters and commissions. So we had no control over that but essentially it was
Uh pose to pose so you weren't doing like stop motion. You weren't doing frame after frame after frame
You were doing key frames of
Really nice fluid animation was a mixture of cutout and
Hand-drawn, you know, but digitally
It's really fun. I think flash is still
An amazing piece of software that if you put it in the hands of artists made some beautiful beautiful stuff
Because I had a really cool fluid pen tool as well as your shapes as well as the cutout shapes you could
Could play with so we were absolutely fascinated with it
and my role was to take all the scenes that some of the animators had completed and
Get them out of flash into
A product like after effects or premiere and start cutting things together
In you know as post-production that was a joy to behold to try and get
s to blur f files out of the flash in the same intention as how they'd been animated it was hard
I was gonna ask you because I guess most common now would be after effects, right? That's what most animators would use to animate things
Not necessarily not necessarily after practice is cool because you've got um joysticks and sliders and do it in
IK, so inverse kinematics tools that that people are using but a lot of the stuff is tomboom harmony and selection
So they're two very um, well-renowned tools in the industry that people use for that. You've got you've got adobe animators
Or adobe character animator, which is a little bit
Meat, you know the feeble of a tool, but essentially adobe anime is a rebadged flash
What is what is your preferred tool set for animation?
After effects is cool. After effects gives you such freedoms. That's such fluidity. There is another one called mojo
Um, which was good and then pap paper animation paper
I think it's like a digital paper animation pencil or something
Pap which was almost like a traditional 2d lightbox
Tool with layers with onion skin layers and stuff and it was amazing. You could get such a good quality of linework in it
Yeah, but my my go-to was was flash and then when flash started to phase certain things out then we knew two after effects
So yeah done a lot with that
Okay, so let's let's talk about hangry animals because there's so I feel like there's so much going on with this project
so so I guess my first question related to hangry animals is just
What was your introduction to web 3? Like where did the what are the idea to take what you were doing?
You know from before and and pull it into web 3 where did that you know
What was your first introduction to web 3 and and what was the impetus to want to do something in web 3?
Sure, um, I I started helping guys out just as as a favor in
In the defy space before the last pull
So 2018 2019 I was just doing graphics for for a token, you know, it's the first reflection token which uh,
Code for because it was open sourced at the time
And pressured into making it open source and then they went to the moon and then they went to jail. So
Yes, I was helping those kind of projects because you know creative skills
branding bits like that, but just all as gestures of goodwill and just
helping people out really so
But in the same breath was really starting to understand, you know tokens tokenomics, you know
NFTs were starting to become a thing and there was a bit of a
You know a positive buzz about what what they were and what you could do with them
and the utility that people were putting behind them and
doodling and illustrating in the evenings as I do just to relax and
My creative creative juices flowing
I connected with a couple of guys that were like we should find something to do together
We should find a project and find a mission that would be awesome to um, just
Have fun and see where it see where it would go
And truthfully now there was this whole vibe of you could mint anything as an entity and make a bunch of a bunch of money
In those early days. I was like, oh really any let's let's see what you can do then
and speaking to a couple of guys about
My illustration style and stuff and I did a live twitch stream and I was asking on the twitch stream
What animal do you think I should illustrate and the first animal that came out of my?
And the guys were like hey, this is cool. Maybe we should have a group of characters
It's a bit boring, you know
What would what should we call them? Like let's call them the hangry hippos
And you may you may get sued by hangry hippos for that. So let's try something a bit different
What if we do a set of characters that are just?
Different animals, so we ask the community of just a small group about 10 15 people at the time
We ask the community what other animals would you like to see illustrated and let's see if we can do something with them
Um, so then I did a zebra did a moose did a gorilla and a bear obviously the hippo as well
We had this core group of characters
And just out of thin air just said oh days ago. They these could become the hangry animals
And it was just meant as a joke to begin with
But it sort of we put a lot of meat on the bones from from those original
So, okay, so there's there's so many
Um, there's a lot of different aspects. I'm not sure what what came first or or uh, you know
What order or you know where to start but but um, my understanding is that I saw that you guys have made it
So there's a couple things you guys have made a comic book
I know that you're working on, you know in your background animation. So animated series and then I saw this new um
Charity thing that you're doing with with these uh, chet's chats, I guess maybe they're called
I'm, not sure, you know, maybe maybe you could start in general with like sort of the what was the original utility of the project?
And then how did it evolve to where it is now?
Yeah, sure. I mean it's it's pivoted quite a few times since the inception really but the the initial goal between
My co-founder coinburn who's in the u.s
Was he wanted something that he was a legacy piece that he could leave behind for his kids
And how we could do that was through an animated series
So we had a set of characters and then we had
The ambition and the vision to create an animated series that was good clean wholesome fun
That was playful that could appeal to a younger audience, but also has that fun factor
Maybe a bit of earthworm jim vibe in there that you know squash and stretch cartooniness that appealed to
A broader audience and older audience
So the initial kind of driver for that was hey, let's let's try and put something together. Let's try and mini raise
With an nft collection that would get us on the journey to putting an animated series together
and along that way obviously we
We had 2021 into 22 was an initial scope
Let's go for mint. Let's go for launch. Let's go for a minute
Connecting with us as part of that initial kind of wave of activity
Which we were all like whoa, this is interesting. This is very cool
And he wanted to take it to the live theater. He wanted to do music videos with it
He wanted to do a lot of kids related content with it
From that initial conversation
And we paused we decided to pause because of the sentiment that was sat around
Celebrity endorsements with nft projects at the time
So we sort of held our own and said, you know what? This is probably not the right approach
This is not the right vibe and equally
It takes money. It takes big bucks to put an animated series together be that 2d or traditional
Drawn animation 2d all cut out animation or if if you go the bigger route and you go for cgi
So 3d 3d character animation then you're talking 15 mil plus
for something of that nature and we were very
Understanding that you're not going to get that kind of cash in this environment off the bat straight up
So we paused we held our own and we thought you know what?
Let's let's rethink how we can approach this to get us to that point in the in the far future where
Funding behind us or enough support behind us to put an animated series together. So we parked that
And we thought let's tell many stories. Let's tell us small adventures first
And some origin stories and test the ground test the water. Let's put these characters in situations
Which we think you know, what that would be funny
With a good friend of mine who's a director film director and a script writer himself and a voice over artist amazingly
So he helped us write five origin story scripts for each of the key characters
and we went ahead and made
One of those origin stories as a comic to do a proof of concept
And that comic was launched on
Cryptocomics.com for Otis the purple hippo
So there's the first kind of thing really where we started to put all of the ideas all of the characters and the personas and the
The vibe that we created across that journey
Together to see how it all sat together and you know, it looks cool
It works great and but in my mind, it's it's simply an experiment at this point with the with the comic
so when you put all that together the real
Then put our focus into and the thing that is
token aspects integrated NFT
Item pickups weapon pickups cosmetics or not and pieces of armor that you can pick up as NFTs
That's our focus now to get this
You play as a character as one of these key five character angry animals
For two things you're playing to progress your character through the game and to increase its metadata and its skills
and earning tokens and NFTs in there
but coinciding with that is our ambition really that we want to find mechanisms to support animal welfare charities
Selects what charity they wish to play on behalf of
and a stream a proportion of
Purchases the sales the trades of each NFT
The purchase of the tokens in game tokens a proportion of that gets fed into a treasury
cycle at end of each season
Whoever's at the top of the leaderboard gets the lion's share of that treasury dished out
As a reward for them, but also to the charity that they play on behalf of
So we're building this ecosystem that scales with more charities
We're on board more players. We're on board more revenue
We can feed into those elements of the ecosystem with the tokenomics
It just it's an everyone wins scenario and raising awareness plus gamers having a great time playing a cool
throwing burgers at aliens and saving animals in the game as well as saving animals with it, you know with their contribution so
What so that's where we are at the moment. I love it. I love it. That's that's super cool
I guess is there you have like like you said you have people or someone writing the scripts for the different characters
What's sort of the the concept of the actual universe that you're creating? What's what's the idea behind it?
We have an origin story in the origin story revolves around there are several alien species
That are drawn back to earth because of an event that happens in the storylines. They're drawn back to earth
There's a there's an ambush. There's a the key event that
Some crystals we call it the tarball crystal. It's an energy crystal called tarball
Which isn't native to earth and what that does is it merge?
It merges the closest dna of the human to the to the animal that they're closest to
So the tarball is released. It's a radiation-type energy source and it merges those dna's
Thus forming the angry animals themselves. So each of these characters have a enhanced human ability
But also an enhanced enhanced perception of animal
You know instinct so they can hear the animals. They've got an empathetic connection with those animals
So they understand the plight of all animals on earth at this point
So with our heightened experience, they are aware of an invading
Alien species or a series of invading species coming to earth
Help fend off those those aliens, but the biggie is that the aliens have come and they're going
We have found evidence that we were here before you
So bye. Bye little humans. It's time for you to go
So it's the angry animals job is to actually
Save the humans as well, which is in contrast to what we experience in
On earth right now. We're taking advantage of resources. We're
Destroying habitats left right and center and we're kind of
At a rate that is just crazy. So we're trying to find ways to which
to build an entertaining storyline with objectives, but also
Raising awareness of the plight of animals that we are putting in vulnerable positions
Without throwing it down people's throats
That's that's the core thing
Do you call him chet's the cht? What does that stand for?
Chet is just the name of a character. He's a
Army that helps the angry animals. So we have
An army called the edf uf the earth defense force united forces. We made it long to be annoying and funny
So chet is one of the soldiers who helps angry animals and this he does play a key part in the storylines
kind of prolific role in some of the episodes
so we decided that the pass is
A really early incentive to raise a bit of capital to bring bring some more eyes to the project
and uh, yeah, you can basically grab a chet off open sea

uh an opportunity to learn skills and and grow with me so
Yeah, there's three guys who are
Really pushing their own skill skills and boundaries with doing this
Um, you know, I i've used unity for years to do virtual reality experiences when I was in the big agency
I was responsible for developing a
patented piece of technology that does palliative care
So for in the health sector in the uk, we have
Technologies that is used to help patients who are isolated. So cystic fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis patients, for example
Cannot exercise in a room with anybody else because of their weakened immune system
So in vr experiences on a cycle on a bike where they can
basically pedal the length of the uk
Has proven to increase their well-being increase their energy levels by 90
through the uses of a vr headset with a
So I developed a system where you could do remote control with them with vr to play back whatever
cycling experiences they wish to do and
They went from five minutes and board them on a bike to 45 minutes and exhaustion from exercising and joy
So yeah, i've been involved with that kind of stuff for a while and then and these guys are learning from from that really with
Building us really rpg game with me

I've been a long-time possessor of happiness. So a couple things that have worked really well
Give that advice of things that have worked well. So first thing I would say is
If you have a victim mentality
You want to eliminate that as quickly as possible. There's nothing that will make you unhappy or faster than that victim mentality
So you want to switch to taking total responsibility for everything in your life?
Even things that are outside of your control
But that puts you in kind of a realm of influence control you control your attitude and perspective
And if you do that, why would you choose anything other than happiness?
And then the biggest thing that helps me kind of stay in that frame of mind of reference
Is crushing a great daily routine
So for me that's cold exposure cold showers, um kind of cold plunge
15 to 30 minutes of sauna
I do some wim hof breathing two or three times a day and then always got to do some movement and exercise
Combine those four elements together and boy, I feel it feel like a million bucks
