Definitely check out charmverse, but not until after today's discussion
We're talking eke denver and we are joined by
Dow of steve of dow planet and we might have some other friends stopping by too. Hey steve. How are you?
I'm good. I'm good. I'm fighting a cold here though. Uh, you know, it's a cold season
It absolutely is but get it out of the way before denver
You know denver's more about catching covet than it is catching a cold
Oh my god, I get sick every time coming home from one of these things
That was my first covet was after dow denver two years ago
Yeah, uh, it can be brutal. Um, if anyone has been to any of these conferences, you know, it's exhausting
You're talking to a million people
You're all over the place. You're probably not sleeping a ton
Um, but it's really worth it. So i'm really excited to be diving into eke denver and kind of talking about
what you have going on and
What you plan on doing
Yeah. Yeah. Well, thanks so much for for hosting this and inviting
inviting us in and we'll have some other folks pop in I see we've got uh
flow science there, um
If flow science wants to hop on the stage a bit as well
We are yeah this year is uh, it's looking kind of special where where
We like to create at eath denver a a dow denver experience. So
Focusing on the dow space this year. We have a
Hotel that we're actually going to under one roof be producing our dow summit, which is a multi-day
Dow focused conference during build week for you know, eath denver's build week
And we'll be housing a lot of people together. So so it's great
We did that last year where we housed a lot of people create a bit of a dow hotel
And if people want to take advantage of the of the low rates and all the perks they can, uh hop on our website
either dow planet org or dow denver org and um
Check out the venue page and then they can see
the amenities the pricing
And anyone who stays with us that includes the dow denver experience where
We have the dow summit. We have a lot of partner events
We're networking with a lot of different organizations
to create a glide path to really
Take care a lot of what you need. So with the one wristband or or badge
you'll be able to have uh
Unfittered access to the events and not have to worry about whether or not you'll get in what the line is going to look like
All of that stuff
Amazing. Yeah. I know at this point
It's a lot of people scrambling to find their accommodations and and do all of that
So you're helping them kind of just do this as efficiently as possible while giving them access to events
Exactly and it and it supports what we're doing. It supports our ability to
Create this community and bring all the speakers together and um, we've got a great ballroom at the hotel which we're
you know, we we can fit up to 400 people in there and um
we're looking to have a lot of fun and uh create a home for people to network and uh
Work on what they're building work on their communities and learn from each other
I love that. I actually spent a lot of time at dao denver last year
and I don't think we actually met there but I saw you around a lot because you're kind of emceeing things and
coordinating
Um, but there were so many great speakers. There were great panels. Um, it was just kind of like a default
Place that I went every day for usually at least a couple hours to hang out and check stuff out. So
Um fantastic programming is it going to be a similar format this year?
Yes, it it is. So we've got a um, if anybody wants to speak we have
We have a application form up on the website. So
just go check that out again dao denver.org and
let us know what you want to what you want to talk about we try to
provide access to
Anyone who's really passionate about what they're doing really inspired and they can be inspiring to others
We have sponsorship options
And we just want to create a thriving community. We're actually partnered
with with folks from
board apes dao
Ape coin dao, I guess it is and city dao and pizza dao
So on thursday this year on the 20 the 28th, we're going to be supporting
Uh what a bunch of folks are doing we're we're part of the whole thing
going back to the old sports castle, um on broadway in denver and uh
Revitalizing that space where where eith denver used to be held and uh have a full day of programming and events there
And activating the hotel since we'll have a captive audience
Probably a hundred to two hundred dao enthusiasts staying with us under one roof and we'll also be providing
A shuttle service between the different events that we're supporting
Amazing. So that original sport castle that's before my time
Um, actually last year was my first eith denver. So coming back for my second this year
Um, that sounds really cool
Yeah, so one of the things that's a little bit different this year with eith denver is last year
The rhino district of denver, which is river north kind of sitting north of downtown was the epicenter of build week
Um, and then for the main eith denver event which started on like thursday
And it went thursday through sunday was at the national western complex
this year
the entire build week and
main event will be at the national western complex, um
And there's not really much around that. So what we decided to do rather than
Rent another venue in the rhino district. We decided to put everything under one roof and we've got a great hotel partner
So we're going to be at the uh at the best western premiere and it's about 10 minutes away
From where eith denver epicenter is and then we can host a lot of our
A lot of our events and everything else there
That's nice
It's kind of nice to have things consolidated because like I said
If you're at these conferences and you're bopping around to these side events
You can be all over town
You can just be from one side to the other for events
So kind of nice to have things consolidated in one area and be able to kind of hang out
Network see speakers and do all that stuff in one place
Absolutely, and it was great when we did uh when we didn't meet
Um, that was uh, I guess that was around nftmyc and I think it was actually at uh
Hanging at the the pizza dal party there. It was
That was really fun hanging out with pizza dal
and the ninja turtles, um, it was super fun bopping around the city and
Making friends along the way, which is what these things are all about
Um, so you said you're working with them around your event
Um, I assume you'll be hitting some of their events as well
Um, yeah, yeah, so uh working with snacks if people don't know snacks, he's definitely a personality that uh, you want to
to definitely get to know and um
He's the the ringleader of of pizza dal and they do great work. Uh, I was able to help out
Personally, I know a lot of other people did as well. There's uh, there's pizza day, which is uh,
Commemorates the first day that uh that bitcoin was used. It's bitcoin pizza day bitcoin was used to purchase a pizza
so I think it was uh
I should remember that the amount of bitcoin that was used but you know
Obviously the equivalent of a number of millions of dollars right now to buy one domino's pizza
and to commemorate that
the pizza dal
Producers events where there's plenty plenty and plenty of pizza and good times and good vibes
Super good vibes super good times. Yeah pizza dal if you can go to one of their events go
Um, yeah, they have pizza. There's usually drinks around ninja turtles make an appearance. It's good music
It's uh, it's a good time. I'm definitely hoping to hit
To hit it again this year. Definitely definitely ninja turtles and now we're gonna have apes
It's gonna get a little crazy
I can't wait. I'm so excited. The countdown definitely officially began for me today. Just being like, all right. It's february
Let's do this. Yeah. Yeah, it's uh, it's this month. We can say as of today we can say
You know, it's all happening this month
I'm psyched i'm psyched to be connecting with friends and doing all that
So let's let's talk about some of your events. I mean, do you have some
Speakers you can name drop or topics of panels that you that you personally are kind of more excited about
Yeah, um, let's see. It's all coming together. So it's kind of a whirlwind right now getting everything in place
but we're we're obviously working like I mentioned with uh
With city dao and city dao is doing a really an amazing thing with uh, meme brains if folks know meme brains and there's uh
There's the public board is what it's called and it's a harbinger tax
Project that came out of last year's hackathon at at eat denver
And what they're going to be doing and anybody can sign up for free to get there
It's going to be a three-sided video panel truck. That's going to be traveling around
the different venues and parking itself outside of the hot spots and you can get your
Your logo your nft
Whatever you want, um on the truck and it's an experiment with this harbinger tax
Platform where with crypto you can basically reserve real estate and own real estate and that can be time-based real estate
It can be real physical land real estate
Time-sharing and things of that nature. So uh, so people should check that out. That's a project that will also be
I'll be doing some demos and talking about that and then we'll we're also planning an installation of that over at the dao hotel
Where people can see what's on a large screen monitor at the same time?
Um as what's uh, what's playing on the truck?
There's uh, we're also working with the desi group again
It looks like uh where we'll be able to accommodate a lot of their programming. So that's something in the works
Um a lot of the usual suspects, let's see uh talking to uh
To metis or menace right now. They're they're hosting the opening party. So we're looking to partner with them
and uh and host some of their talks in addition to
cross-promotion
Let's see. It's who aren't we working with I guess is the question
yeah, I was guessing you've built up quite the community after uh
Putting these events together this programming together and you do events, you know
Other times of the year too, of course outside of eath denver and we can talk about those as well
Um, I do just want to say flow science
I did send you an invite to speak if you want to if not totally cool
But just so you know that that is out there for you
So you host all these great people these great panels and like I said including charmverse
We don't want to leave charmverse out of that mix. So I know we've got some panels that charmverse will be uh,
We'll be looking at and we've got uh, you know, obviously
nouns and uh
all of those uh
all of those
co-conspirators
We're everywhere. Yeah, i'm pretty excited. We have about five members
I think five members of our team that are going to be in town for this so
It's always a great excuse to get the team together, you know, we're all distributed anyway
So it's nice to like come together in a city for one of these events and be able to hang out for a handful of days
So hey flow science. How's it going?
Good. Sorry. Just running around. Uh, definitely the only operations side of things
So i'm over here sharing the link in the background where you guys are chatting
Yeah, yeah, please post
Yeah, thanks for doing that for us. I'm not good at multitasking
Um, well welcome. So, um, where are you two based? Steve? Where are you? Are you out west?
Yes, i'm out west, uh, san francisco mostly okay when i'm recovering from a cold
Yeah, all right when you need to stay put for a little while. How about you flow science? Where are you? I'm down in l.a
Okay, cool. So both in california
Um moving towards colder weather, uh as you head out to colorado
Indeed indeed. Yeah, it's always that uh, you know the annual annual trek to denver
We get in it. Um, we're up there for a while, you know doing some some pre-event stuff, too
So so yeah, it was a good time. That's when we know it's winter
Yes, exactly
Um, so like I said steve you're always running around kind of like on the sidelines up there doing the emceeing
Do you ever take time to like?
Present at these things or you more just like running the show
Yeah, good question, um mostly running the show, you know, and sometimes i'm presenting but it's really more in conjunction with
with the show
I have done both
I uh, you know, I think my passion is
getting the information and the communication across to people in a way that they can really absorb it and
hopefully keep it inspiring and
Yeah, that's uh
That's it like bringing people together to help them achieve
Their their goals and you were mentioning like getting the whole crew together what I think 10 people coming out
uh to to eth denver
the I think one of the most uh
cathartic experiences I had was the first year which was
2022 this will be the third dow denver. So uh, eth denver started back up again after covet in 2022
And one of the things I was amazed with about was as people were showing up
we had been talking to them for forever, you know organizing sessions and coordinating who was going to be talking together
and then I would be
Getting people together at the event and sort of introducing them to each other and
They had never met in person. These are people that were seriously in a dow
You know probably every day of the week interacting for multiple hours with their uh with their cohorts and uh
And they had never been together in physical space
So they didn't even know what they really what each other really looked like and this was just amazing
To be able to facilitate that first
in-flesh meeting between people
I love that I think uh
In this in this industry
We really do all communicate with each other and it's all online and you're not seeing someone's face
So when you can finally meet someone in real life and put a face to that name and hear their voice
there is something really special about that and that's amazing that you get to hold such a
A special place for these people connecting them
I think that's super important. Like I said the events that i've been to have just been great and uh,
Great networking made friends at them
Learned so much from these panels. So you're crushing it and
Listeners, if you have ever put together any kind of event for these it's it's just exhausting
There's so much planning that goes into it flow science. You're saying you're on the operation side
I'm sure you know what i'm talking about too
So much goes into it
So the amount of people that you are coordinating and the days on end that you're doing this
I can't even imagine the work that's going into this preparing for eath denver
Yeah, I wouldn't want anybody else to feel that
Our job is making it look easy
And you do but I imagine you're kind of like oh we finished eath denver
2024 let's start thinking about eath denver 2025. Mm-hmm, right
Um, there's never never enough time
There's never enough time. I mean i'm coordinating my team and I just feel like
You know just all the moving parts. So with the with the amount of work you guys are doing
It's blowing my mind and makes me anxious
Um will is asking to speak. Is this one of your friends or is it one of our random listeners coming up to chat?
Yeah, I think I think will is involved with the uh with the dal castle
Um, let's yeah, let's bring bring will up
I just tried will if you want to request to speak again, i'm happy to let you come on up and chat with us
Okay requested here we go
Yeah, then while we wait for will i'll mention another another thing that we're we're doing. Um,
Well two things one thing is uh, we're we're looking to usually we're chalk wall to wall with uh with content
It might happen again this year
But we're trying to experiment with a little bit more of a flexible format even a little bit of an unconference format
So reserving time where people can come together and collaboratively decide what's of the most interest to them
What do they have that's like a burning share maybe some lightning talks?
Looking to mix it up a little bit. So I like playing with different formats. We've had
Uh a standard format where it's usually 15 minutes per
per talk and 30 minutes per panel, but
Open to changing that so again if anybody wants to
Apply to speak let us know what you want to do. What kind of format works
We've got a lot of space this year. So we've got other breakout room opportunities. Um
So we can host workshops
It'll really be interesting another thing that we're going to bring to the mix because ai is so big and
Vitalik just came out with a paper two days ago on the you know
His view of the intersection of ai and and web3 and where blockchain can really help solve some of the problems
And where it can't help solve some of the problems but uh looking to
support that i'm personally doing a lot of work in ai and ai events right now and
Looking to bridge that into what we're doing with dow planet and dow denver. So look for ai
infused content also this year
Uh, people are totally going to be into that there's you know, all the hype around it
Um, all right will hey what's going on?
Hello, how's everybody doing we're doing great. Thanks for joining us
Yeah, so uh a little bit about me i'm a local here to denver
This will be my third eath denver
I'm also the founder of king fishers media that you see in the audience
I'm also one of the core members of the let's grow dow. So i'm really excited that this space happened
I am previous years. I just learned about dow denver and dow planet last year
When I was at biddle week and I had some friends that were speaking at the event like dr. Tammy francis
uh, like john from list of dows, so really excited to see what other collaborations are gonna
Bloom and blossom as a result of this effort
Amazing um i'm excited. So i've been putting together a
um a guide to denver i've been getting locals opinions on like great coffee shops a good hotel lobby to meet in
i'm going to be hitting you up and and
Getting some of your input because we want to help people find those really cool spots in denver. There's so many to be found
Um, but if we can direct people, um
Actually, why don't we why don't we talk about that for a minute? Do you have?
Steve do you have any favorite places in denver where it's kind of like your go-to for
A drink or your go-to for a coffee. I mean and that oh science urine will
Yeah, let me know. Yeah. Well, obviously this year. Um, uh
I'm a little biased. So I tell everybody come by the uh, come by the best western premiere and uh, you'll find
dao and he
People hanging out 24 seven and we're gonna basically have the run of the place. So
Um, just come out hang out there cafe restaurant on prem bar on premises
More downtown last year became really familiar with rhino. I know crypto mondays, uh and crypto oracle collective
they're having their monday event over at the improper brewery, I believe it is and um
I spent a lot of time
There last year also was looking at that as a venue, uh for possibly for dao denver
last year
Last year, of course, we hosted our the dao, uh cafe, which was next door to the venue that we
That we had so we did registration and we did meals and things over at local drive
Which is a great spot. Uh was right next to the catalyst event center
So we were able to pair both those venues
Together there there's just so much and then of course downtown all along
You know, I just remember the the first year we were there with uh, we actually
Rent it out for three days. Uh, we're two days plus party
temple denver, so
There's always great stuff going on at temple denver
That's uh, you know, we I think what are we 30 40 000 people descend on denver and we're all uh crypto heads
Yes, there's fun to be had everywhere. I definitely spent a lot of time in
Rhino and definitely improper brewing last year because they just I feel like they always had events most nights happening
Um, and that's a cool spot. How about you will local a local to denver?
Um, what are some of your favorite spots that people should be checking out?
Yeah, that's a great question and it depends on what you fancy
Um as far as coffee shops, especially in the rhino district. So if you came last year
For bill week, you're familiar with the rhino district. There's a really great coffee shop called blue sparrow coffee
They're just absolutely amazing and they've got a great selection
of espressos
the year before
In 2022 when it was more in the art district down on broadway. Uh, there was another great coffee shop
Uh, just uh a block nor or blocks out of the art hotel
If you guys kind of remember that layout so a lot of great places. There's great eateries here
Yeah, i'll i'm happy to help you out with curating your list charm verse. I would love that
I will yeah truth be told I don't navigate that area frequently enough since covet
Um, but we can definitely find some gems for sure
Yeah, and I mean even outside of the rhino district
That's fine too because like I said you find yourself kind of all over the place
So, you know or depending on where people are staying, uh, or you want to meet up and go to dinner with someone, you know
So I will definitely hit you up after this to get some input on that
Um super excited for everything that's happening
Um, oh I was gonna say so steve
You host you put on these big events. Are you still accepting volunteers?
Oh, yes, absolutely. So many many hands make hopefully lighter work
It never feels like it's light. But uh, but please if you want to get involved, I think a lot of people
from what i've heard it was a great experience last year for people that
Showed up and volunteered and joined our crew
Um, it's really a group effort. We can't do it without you know, we're we're a small team
That actually makes it out from dow planet. Um
You know, maybe uh, maybe a small handful of people that are part of the dow and then
People join the dow because they want to help, uh, create
Create what we're doing there help create this space and this year we have a great sandbox to do it in
Yeah, and I mean if you know
For the listeners like you want to be able to get into some of these events you want to be able to hear people speak
You're obviously volunteering and you're working but it's a great opportunity to meet people
network with people and like I said
Just learn because you're in that room with all these great minds that are presenting, you know throughout the days. So
Definitely if you're interested go to dow denver.org or dow planet.org you can get there both ways
Um, and there's a form that you can fill out for
You know, if you want to be a sponsor a speaker, um or a volunteer. Yeah will what's up?
Yeah, one other thing I will put out there as a recommendation for non-locals
flying into dia
ride-sharing
Practices have gotten very predatory in the last couple years
So make sure if you are using a ride-sharing service
You are only booking through the app and you're not accepting rides from you know
People just like trying to pick up ride shares at the airport very important. Uh, not only a safety concern
But also that's you know, the legitimate way to do business with those companies. So
Good tip, thank you. Let's stay safe everyone great point and uh
We might be able to shuttle people from the airport. So we're looking we're booking our shuttle vans right now and
We'll we'll be hiring some drivers
so if anybody wants a side gig and
They can drive a van. We'll probably be doing some airport runs for folks that are staying with us
Um as one of our perks so don't want to fully guarantee that just yet
We want to make things as easy as possible when people are joining us and being part of that community
So hopefully we can help cover a lot of that
Amazing. That's fantastic. Why not add another thing to your plate?
You mentioned these hotel deals and like if you book the hotel it kind of gets you into down dao denver events, right?
Correct. So dao so the dao summit where there's multiple ways to get in but if you stay with us
You get sort of the vip level which is the the full dao denver experience and then if you're a member of the dao
And you sign up you can get your uh, you're a free ticket to
The dao summit and what we've got going on at the hotel and then we've got a lot of partner events
so if you are
um either staying at the hotel or purchasing a
A dao denver experience pass then that would include like priority access to to a lot of the other partner events
Very cool
So how about just are you able to just purchase the dao denver experience pass or is there a
Link that we should be checking out as far as getting into these events, you know
If our if our hotels are already booked and we're good on that front
um, so I just posted a reply to the
To this event to this spaces so people can find the link there. But again, if you just go to dao denver org
You'll have that information
We haven't set pricing yet. If you're not going to
Do the hotel and what that would include is it would include all the shuttle service and like we said the whole
dao denver experience without necessarily needing to stay in our hotel because a lot of people have already made their plans before we
even announced our packages
So we will we will have an option where people can purchase that
Right now people can reserve rooms by
no money down through
Through this weekend and then we'll start requiring payments on monday for the hotel
But you can also pay right now to reserve your rooms. We've got
Up to four people per room in uh in a two queen bedroom. We've got
single king bed
Configurations you can go online. You can choose your configuration. You can check out the perks and you can
Give us your credit card information or you know, just do it right through stripe
There's a couple buttons there and if you want to pay through crypto that that's great too. We we haven't um
Automated that process yet, but just get in touch and we can give you our our wallet address for the event
And uh, we can we can accept crypto and other forms of payment
So i'm curious flow science and steve
Do you guys even get to make it to the main venue or you really just it seems like you'd probably need to be?
At your event, um since it's multiple days running
Yeah, yeah, funny funny story is the first year in the 2022
I had a pass to doubt to eath denver and I hadn't made it down to the castle at all
Even though you know, I could walk from the hotel. We were staying in
And I finally made it over there. It was like a couple hours before they closed the uh, the dao castle
I mean the uh, it was called the
I think the sports castle before they turned it into the spork castle now when it's uh when it's been moveable
But I finally made it down. It was probably about three o'clock or so
I got to registration and they were like, sorry can't help you. We just closed registration like an hour ago
um, so I literally had to sneak into the
into the the sports castle to to experience just a taste of what was uh
What's happening there last year?
I did make it to a lot of the because we don't compete with eath denver main event
so because most of what we do is uh
At least during the day. Most of what we do is uh in the in the biddle portion or build week
Um, it does allow us time to go down and actually
See talks and visit all the uh, all the people that are that have booths over at the main event
Yeah, well if you can come and stop by charmverse actually has a booth this year, um
Booth 113 listeners come say hi to us. We're actually going to be handing out free espresso
We actually got an espresso machine because the venue did not have great coffee last year. So we figure
We'll have espresso. So stop by and visit the charm
Charmverse booth we're gonna have a scavenger hunt i'm putting together the guide
So, you know all the cool places to hit up will's gonna help me with that after this
And yeah, i'm pumped definitely come visit us. Um will how about you? Do you spend a lot of time at sport castle?
Um, yes, actually I do actually we found a uh,
A variety of business development partners that are assisting with our current build and web3. Uh, uh king fishers media
During the core event. So yes, I do spend some time
We also uh side note king fishers media has secured two hours of time in the podcasting booth area
This year at the core event on friday from one to three
So if you want to come by and create some unique web three content tapping to some
Refi regen conversations or dow conversations or whatever conversations we're having
We invite anyone and everyone to come by and contribute to that process. We're going to repurpose that content
Um, actually if you've never been to our show our broadcast
Uh content from east denver last year is part of our intro now. So it's a great way to curate some creative content
Oh great to know
Yeah, hopefully we can connect uh while we are there also will I wanted to say I saw um on your profile
You're a member of hive dao as well as let's grow. Yes, and I just had
Uh members from let's grow on here a couple weeks ago wasabi helped me coordinate that yes
And winston of hive dao was on here, too
yep, uh, actually winston is going to
Uh, I don't want to say too much because we don't have any each deal yet
But uh, I just had a conversation with him earlier in the week and looks like he's going to sign on as our marketing partner
So love that's exciting. Yeah, love winston. Love wasabi wasabi is a big fan of your platform
So yeah, let's grow. Yes. I love it. Let's grow
all right, so
Uh flow science i'd love to hear from you because your operations
As people are as people are hosting events and putting these things together. What's something that you've learned from hosting events
Let's say even last year
Um at dao denver that maybe you're going to switch up and do differently now
That's a good one, um, let's see I think well
This is our third year doing dao denver and my third year working with steve
Um, so we definitely have a lot of learnings along the way
Uh and last year one thing that we really wanted to do and tried to do is make the the actual event
um as web 3 is possible and
That was good in certain ways, but ultimately it's sort of it was created a lot of friction
Um, and and which is you know, we we were trying to create programming and create an experience and get people connected
So I think allowing
You know those things can be facilitated but sort of forcing them
Uh can be a little difficult. We ended up last year sort of kind trying to do uh nft tickets
And we sort of just reverted to the event right at the door
Um to uh, just it was just easier for people and faster and there was just so many people
You know, it was like one of those practical things where it's like, okay, uh plan goes out the window
We just got to get people
Um, so yes, you know, you can never do enough planning, uh, and you can never never get things sorted enough
But that's that's kind of why we're also trying to do stuff at the hotel this year
Right and have all our programming under one roof with where guests are staying
And have that really be our hub, uh to minimize some of those logistical challenges of having a separate off-site venue
And we're still definitely doing that big collab with uh dal castle on wednesday
Um, and and so that'll be more focused over there
But that's just the one day and we've got partners to do that with now
So it's a little bit less of a you know on us to really accomplish everything
Um, yeah, and that's kind of really the name of the game for us is collaboration, right? It's dal is all the way
Like steve was saying earlier. It's a lot of people that just sort of come in
Uh and help out. I want to be involved and that's that's the dal ethos, right? Just crash a meeting show up
Just get in offer to do something and now you're on the team
Um and really try to follow that that vibe the whole way through. Um, you know everything from
To coordinating the programming to finding partnerships and you know, just actually putting the thing on so
I I think that's a great point
I always like to ask like, you know, what went wrong or what would you do differently because
We're all navigating these things as we put on some event and it doesn't work. The internet not is not working
You know, what do we do now?
And you said you were trying to make everything like very web 3 because that's what we're all here for we want to
immerse everyone
In web 3 use the technology have our nft tickets and i'm totally with you
But at the end of the day, we want to kind of simplify it too
For the people coming because we don't want that friction
but also for ourselves who are trying to actually host these and get people in the door and just
Keep it smooth and have everyone having a good time. So I think it's important to be able to pivot
Uh be ready to do that, you know and
we're going to get better and better at this every year and as the technology gets stronger, but
Sometimes you need to pivot and not be as web 3 as we hoped we were going to be for these things
Can't let my luck win, you know
Absolutely
Yeah, I think it's it's great because we we want to do this because we want to learn and we want to experiment and
Web 3 is great for some things, but it's not fully mature in other ways and there's not full adoption. So
Sometimes the experiments can feel like banging your head against the wall, but uh, but it's a great process
Well, at least we're all in it together, right
And at least we we have good teams that we can try to navigate it together and and again learn the next time around
You know this time I just remember last year at sport castle the wi-fi was not great
So this year, you know
I'm gonna have like a backup plan
With my computer if I need to do signups and not have to rely on the internet if need be but you know
We're all figuring it out. Yeah, hopefully they figured it out. I think they had it down by the end. Um,
I remember speaking to uh to john, uh about like i'm not sure if it was john or josh, um
You know the specific issue that they had which was sort of like just a foul like they put all this energy
Into making sure that there was going to be wi-fi and then the whole thing just fell down
And uh took them a while to to figure out what the problem was and by the time they called in the experts and
You know changed that one setting that you know
That was effing with everything. Um
It was uh painful. It's definitely growing pain. Yeah
An embarrassment. Yes. Oh, well, you know, we made it work. We made it work. Everyone still had a great time. Um
Yeah, it's just one of those things right we're all in this
Technology world and we can't get our wi-fi to work like it's uh, so frustrating but again, we just pivot we make it happen
Yeah, but it's working right now. It's something you're doing is working because this spaces has not had a hiccup
Oh, well, hey
Yes, all right
Okay, so as you're building out your dow planet community i'm curious
What are some of the biggest challenges that you've encountered in creating that in creating a community in the crypto space?
Yo, I think the dow space
Yo, I think we've all experienced this anybody that's been in the dow space for a while. I I dove in heavily
in you know mid-covid
Everything was shut down
the previous project I was working on got mothballed and
I just saw dow's, you know as a uh
You know a primary
Use case was to streamline remove the friction of getting organizations and humans
Collaborating together and also increasing liquidity and being able to
Create tokens that had real value
um, you know different than
Just you know all the shit coins out there and pump and dump schemes whether they were well intentions or not
I saw dow's and still see dow's as a great opportunity to be able to
Forgo a lot of the upfront costs of bringing of creating a community creating a business
And see what happens first and only start spending money on legal and
Incorporation when you know, there's something there like you can be a group of friends just getting together and saying, okay
Let's just mint these tokens and this is how we're going to use them for governance or or whatever it happens to be
Um, what I found was I guess I got into dow's just pre peak dow and peak crypto
um, and then
The subsequent we had a lot of attention when we first
Created the dow and I think over a thousand members on the discord, but then along with the crypto winter
I think a lot of people experienced a lot of disenchantment
And there wasn't the hunger people had other things to do since now
they weren't locked into their into their homes or apartments and um, we just
lost a lot of uh
momentum and uh
An engagement so now we have to find new ways to engage one of those ways is through
irl kind of events and activities, you know, what are we building in the real world that is using
Dow as a structure and crypto as a tool and a mechanic that underlies all of that
to really build things that are that have
sustaining value
um, so I think that's the challenge and
That's something that is probably not a unique experience for what we experienced at dow planet. But um,
That's the uh, that's the balance and that's the uh, the challenge I think
Yeah, I would agree. I mean, I think that's definitely a common story people get excited they get involved
And then they may not
Realize the time commitment it's going to take or other life stuff happens and all of a sudden they're not engaging with the community
Um, so like you said, how do we keep them engaged? We host these events
We meet people in real life and maybe that keeps them a little more in tune with the community
When we're talking about these events you said they're irl, but do you also I mean if i'm not in san francisco
Um, are you streaming these do you do things in the metaverse? Like are there other ways to attend these events?
Yeah, great. Great point. We didn't mention that we do stream everything and then we post produce everything we uh, we intend to post produce everything
Um, it takes a lot of energy to do that. Usually
I think uh
with dao denver
We facilitate about 20 different sessions a day
So over three days you can imagine with 60 plus sessions
The post production on that can be a little bit grueling and we don't have lots of funding
Um more people that can devote their time. So we're we're looking for more funding and grants to help complete some of that
we've got an immense amount of
content that where
We're still working on getting out there and we have a lot on our youtube channel, but um
Just to answer specifically the question is we like to have it as hybrid as possible
what I personally think is the best mix is to
get as many people together in real life, especially presenters and then be able to
Open it up to the entire world. So
Anything that is happening on stage is being live streamed
There's always a recording of the hours and hours of live stream that automatically goes live on youtube
after the fact, uh, we usually stream through our channel on youtube and um
And we want to bring people in that way and uh
and it is in my mind getting people together in real life, but i've also seen I think uh
flow science can speak to
Some events that he's produced that are more
That are more virtual like uh, like hackathon. So there's there's a benefit
to both I think being in in in real life and having that personal connection
And also being able to reach the entire planet regardless of where people are in space
Absolutely flow science. Did you want to add anything to that as someone that coordinates this as far as like
You know what you're seeing as far as you know being able to have that widespread reach to people
Uh versus the irl kind of all being together in one room
Yeah, I mean I guess it gets more along the lines of a doubt ethos right or at least open web
I mean i'm i'm an open web builder at heart
A scientist at heart and I you know believe in
access to information and knowledge, you know, I spent a lot of time in the academic world and uh
There's a lot of information that's get kept right and I think a lot of us in this space stand for for openness and and uh
There's a way to you know, it's it's good too. It's good good marketing, right?
We want to make sure people do know who we are
So we do our best to uh to broadcast as far and wide as we can because uh, this is what we stand for
You know, we want to support uh this entire space and all other jobs and people that are building
To you know collaborate more and and uh have a more open world
I love it. I mean knowing that you know, you're hosting these events and you're across the country from me
I'm still able to you know
Participate and be there and see what you're doing. So I definitely think having both options is great
Ryan you're you're just north of new york. I'm trying to recall where you i'm up in main
Uh-huh. So just a little bit north of new york. Just a little bit north is main doing right now
It's it's great. We got a bunch of snow and we're doing all right
All right. It is officially winter here as well. It's cold and snowy
Um, and you can see canada. You can see canada from your backyard practically
Um, so I also love to
For for people like you that are going to these conferences that are well versed specifically it and eat denver
Um, do you have any do's or don'ts for conference going?
Absolutely
Do come to denver
All right, that's an easy one
do come to denver and uh and seek us out come to denver a
be stay with us at the dao hotel and
Let's have a great time and let's uh, let's explore what we can build together
I love that
Any other advice from you conference goers will or flow science?
Go with the flow
That's the thing. Like I said earlier a lot of a big entourage buddy. I mean, yeah, let's go. Come on
You know, I can't I can't tell you exactly where i'll be but if you find me it's gonna be somewhere good and
Just yeah things plants go out the window you'll meet new people
You know, like I think that's kind of a lot of the vibe too. It's it's it's uh, go explore
You know, there's a lot happening and go with an open mind and you know, have fun
Great advice will anything from you?
Um, yeah, I will say i'm a big po-app collector, especially at east denver
So get as many po-ups as you can get involved in the scavenger hunt. It'd be a really fun time
Yes, have have it ready be ready to scan everything all the time
Um in my experience, what about you? Yeah, I want to hear yeah, I was gonna say I think it's uh, I mean
I agree with all of you. Definitely
Um sign up for side events. Just do it sign up for them. Go put yourself out there network with people be friendly
Um, just be open. I think that was a great piece of advice flow science be open
it's such a great opportunity to meet people and
Listen and learn these like I said, these conferences can be exhausting you're meeting so many people
But um, that's what we're all here for and there's so many great people to get to know at these so
Put yourself out there go chat with people and uh and learn everything you can
Um, all right guys, I need to let you go, but I would love to hear something before you leave that you are
Most excited about when you hit denver and it could be an event you're hosting and you can recap that again
Or a specific place that you've been wanting to go back and eat anything. It's flow science. Do you want to start?
Ooh, where do I want to go back and see that's a good question. Honestly last year was really tough
Like you were saying earlier, uh, like we don't really get too many other things last year
That was really happened to me like I was
At go denver and on top we were there working on it constantly and then by the time the main event came around
I slept all day
I was just exhausted
Um, and I didn't really do much last year
You know, I went to a couple of the parties at night and stuff
But uh, it was really down. Denver was like the main focus for me last year
So I didn't do too much else. So my goal this year is to do more of these other things and uh,
And really experience some of that
I love it. Will what about you? What are you excited about? I mean you're in denver, but what are you excited about around the conference?
Well, there's so much. I mean it's such an exciting all the visuals
Um, I didn't get to spend much time last year in the blockchain arcade
So i'm excited to carve out some time and uh jam and game in there
Very cool. That was a cool. That was definitely a cool area. All right, and steve we will wrap with you
How about you? What are you most excited about this year? Yeah, I guess most excited. I'm about i'm
excited about all the folks that i'll be connecting with and uh collaborating with so that's number one
Uh, I think another thing is sort of like a tease because I think there's like maybe a 10 chance it'll happen
But maybe folks can support me as i've all the time i've been to denver. I've never been to meow
So that's another thing to check out and I haven't checked it out. So let me know if there's opportunities
Maybe skiing. These are kind of like side events of the side events. Um
but those are some things i'm excited about about the city itself and
number one as I said is uh is creating what we create at dal denver and
And all the folks that we get to um facilitate there
A bit of advice. Oh, go ahead. Well, sorry steve. If you want to do some skiing
I don't know if you're going to the uh, the
eath denver after event in breckenridge
But if you're not we have a lot of great scariest here is that we're within an hour's drive of denver. So
Definitely worth checking out for sure. Yeah, I usually do a basin. Um
I've done that a couple times and got a little place. Uh
Is it albany there's just before the past there's a place I stay at but this time
I think i'm gonna have to get right back to sf. I've got a uh, a hackathon to produce. Uh here in town
No stress. So yeah, no, no stress is not an option. But
But uh, no time to ski that might be the the uh, the reality this year, but I appreciate it
Well, uh, i'm definitely not skiing this year, but that sounds super fun
Well guys, I really appreciate you joining me to kind of talk about eve denver. I'm even more excited after talking to you guys

Yeah, I mean steve. I just want to say and flow science. Thanks so much for
hosting dao denver and putting together such a great space with
amazing people it is

They have the speaker list on there if you're interested in being a speaker a sponsor or a volunteer
That's also the place to go. So make sure you check all of that out
flow science will
