So, before the start of AMA, I want to give you a brief introduce of the Josh, the founder of the Iris.
Could you introduce yourself for our korean community also global community yes of course and if i have any sound issues just let
me know um but yeah so first of all i'm josh founder ceo of iris so i got into crypto about five years ago and I started Iris back in early 2021.
Iris actually initially began as an L2 for Arweave, which is another data chain.
And we launched that around kind of August 2021. I dropped out of school around that time
because I was studying computer science in the UK, which is where I'm from. And we launched Iris as this L2. And in the first two years, we took
our weave from about 10,000 transactions a day to about 15 million a day. We onboarded
about 300 plus projects. We were doing over 95% of the transaction and data volume on the network as well. So we were kind of one of the,
I guess, bigger projects on Arweave. And then kind of segueing to today, we kind of built this
L1 about a year and a half ago, we started building this L1, this data network, which really
came from the fact that we wanted
to solve a lot of the problems that a lot of these data chains have seen, where Rweave
is very unreliable, it's very expensive, Filecoin is also very unreliable, very slow.
So the goal for us was how do we actually build, as Edward said, a next generation data
chain.
But really what that means is how can we
build something that's you know 100 times faster 100 times cheaper and just overall like a better
uh network um but yeah so that's kind of uh that's kind of me before crypto i was working very heavily

조시의 경우에는 블록체인에 몸담은 지 5년 정도 됐고요.
아이리스를 빌딩한 것은 꽤 오래됐습니다.
그래서 2021년 8월부터 시작을 했습니다.
그래서 아이리스를 빌딩하기 전에 알위브에서 레이어 2를
빌딩한 경험도 있다고 하고요. 그러한 경력 덕분에
실제로 현재 존재하는 데이터체인 솔루션, 데이터베이스
솔루션들이 블록체인에서 많은 힘을 처리하고 저장하기에는
너무 비싸고 비용이 많다고 생각되어서 이리스의 아이리스를 개발하게 되었다고 합니다.
그래서 아이리스에 빌딩하기 전에는
RL2 뿐만이 아니라 데이터베이스 쪽에서도 일을 해왔다고 하고요.
그렇기 때문에 당연하게 아이리스 체인에 관심을
가지게 되었다고 합니다.

the first question is about the reason of why the IRIS is called as a next generation data
blockchain. So could you explain what difference of IRIS from other data protocols in the web3 ecosystem yeah of course so iris is a data
chain and actually to actually define what data chain means it means a chain optimized to store
data so we really have two focuses iris one is how do we build a chain that enables you to store
a large amount of data for at a very low cost.
And the second focus is also how do we create value for data as well.
So beyond just storing data, can we allow people to actually do things with their data?
But to talk about some of the actual kind of differences, when people think about data networks, they think if we talk about recent ones,
we think about, you know,
Warris, maybe even space and time.
But really, like, really,
Iris is only kind of close to perhaps things like Warris,
Filecoin, and Arweave,
which are these networks that are essentially used to store data.
And the big difference between Iris and these networks and our big focus is actually how do we build a data network that is a large, like a couple of orders of magnitude faster and cheaper as well. So compared to something like Wars, we are 100 times cheaper, we're actually about 10 to 100 times faster as well. So in terms of the latency and throughput, we're also much faster. And then the second big focus is how do we enable programmable data,
which is this idea that you don't just store data, you can actually perform operations on your data,
and it can be part of your application.
So with programmable data, you can actually
use your data within smart contracts
and you can actually turn data from this very static
kind of asset to this very dynamic asset
that can either be monetized or computed on
or within smart contracts.
So the idea for IRS again is how do we bootstrap this really high performance data network?
And then two is how do we actually create more value for the data on the network?
Okay, so the first question is Iris is often mentioned in the next generation of data blockchain.
So there are various data protocols in the web3 environment. 블록체인으로 이제 자주 언급됩니다. 그래서 이제 웹3 생태계에 대해서

사용자가 저렴한 비용으로 원하는 만큼의 데이터를 직접 원체인에 저장하는 것을 넘어서
데이터를 활용해서 무언가를 만들 수 있다는 것도 가능하다는 게 특별한 점입니다.
기존의 데이터 체인들의 예를 들어보면 Filecoin, iReview 등이 있을 것 같은데
이러한 기존의 데이터 체인들의 데이터 처리 비용이나
저장 비용이나 여러 가지 유지 보수 비용 등을 비교했을 때
IRIS가 100배 더 저렴한 운영 비용을 구축할 수 있고요.
이제 프로그래머블 데이터를 가능하게 구현을 해서 저장한 데이터를 통해서 앱을 구축하고
여러가지 스마트 컨트랙트 내에서 이 데이터를 활용하여서 여러가지 본인만의 프로덕트를 만든다든지
아니면 전체의 데이터 어플리케이션을 구축하는데 하나의 체인 내에서 수직적으로 통합이 가능하다든지 하는 뭔가 저장을 넘어서 생산까지 맡을 수 있는 데이터 체인이라는 데에서 좀 특별함이 있을 것 같습니다.
이러한 통합이 수직적으로 통합되었다라고 얘기를 하고 있는데
이러한 수직적 통합 방식은 시간이 지날수록 아이리스라는 체인 자체에 훨씬 더 많은 가치가 축적이 될 뿐만 아니라 Chain itself has a lot of value, but it can be a new value that has a lot of value.
So what are the advantages of having programmable data in Web3?
So how can it be practically applied?
Could you explain this in the context of iris's long-term vision
yeah so programmable data is again from a definition perspective programmable data
is the ability for you to kind of perform actions on and with your data that is stored on iris
but more practically if this means that the data that you have on iris can
actually be used within smart contracts so you can have a very large amount of data you know terabyte
and exabyte of data and you'll be you're able to use that within smart contracts and the idea there
is that iris's goal is not just to enable you to store data, it's we're trying to vertically integrate
the entire data stack.
And we're trying to not just allow people to store data,
but actually do things with their data.
And programmable data is a kind of a core foundation
to enable that.
But to give kind of an example, a more recent example,
Brick Road is a data marketplace that is built on IRIS that uses programmable data.
And they use programmable data to essentially distribute rewards to people who provide high-value data sets on the network.
So BrickRoad is a data marketplace.
Their focus is how can we sell or provide really high quality data to these AI companies
and programmable data essentially enables them to, based on this data, distribute rewards
based on whether some data set is of high value or not. And again, yeah, the vision for Iris is
we're not just going to be a chain that is for storing data. We're going to have these set of applications on the chain, on the actual L1, that allow
you to do things with your data, whether it's buying and selling data, computing on data,
and many other kind of primitives as well.

그래서 이 프로그래머블 데이터가 갖는 것의 장점이 무엇이고

그래서 프로그래머블 데이터는 데이터를 저장하는 것에 그치지 않고 아까 이제 언급했듯이 그 위에서 무언가를 수행할 수 있게
해주는 그러한 데이터입니다. 그래서 그 수행한다는 게 무엇이냐 라고
했을 때 이 아이리스가 레이어 원으로서 존재하는 가치와 비전이 되는데요.
아이리스는 이제 단순히 이제 데이터를 저장하는 스토리지가 아니라
메인넷으로서 데이터를 토큰화하고 그리고 수익화하고
스마트 컨트랙트 안에서 직접 활용할 수 있도록 해주는
프레임워크 역할을 해주고 있습니다
그래서 가장 적절한 예시가 브립 로드라고 하는데요
아이리스 상에서 고품질 데이터셋을 제공을 하게 된다면
사용자에게 보상을 자동화로 분배하기 위한 프로그래머블 데이터 세팅 그런 인프라도 갖춰져 있다고 합니다.
이러한 프로그래머블 데이터로 수행될 수 있는 아이리스의 비전은
단순히 데이터 저장을 넘어서 데이터 스택 전체를 수직적으로 통합한다는 것입니다.
그래서 보통 수직적으로 통합한다는 게 여러 가지 기술이나 사업적 측면에서 설명을 하게 된다면 어떤 것을 제조할 때 여기서 생산을 하고 그리고 또 다른 업체에 맡겨가지고 그것을 가공을 하고
또 다른 업체가 그것을 배송을 함으로써 최종 소비자까지 갈 때
수평적으로 여러 업체들이 가로로 넓게 펼쳐져가지고
각각 절차를 번거롭게 다른 업체들이 수행을 하고
이제 전달이 되는 것을 의미하고요.
수직적 같은 경우에는 이 절차들을 한 개의 주체가 모두가 다 하는 것을
수직적으로 통합을 하거나 수직적으로
일을 처리한다고 할 수 있죠
그래서 아이리스 같은 경우에는
이 데이터 저장을 하기만 하면은
다른 곳에서 데이터를 처리하거나
뭐 다른 수익하거나 하는 다른 행위를 하는데
너무 불편하기도 하고 기술적으로 한계도 있고 이제 사용성에 한계도 있을 것입니다.
근데 이제 아이리스가 레이어 1으로서 존재하게 된다면 이러한 데이터 저장뿐만 아니라 가공 그리고 수익화 그리고 활용 그리고 스마트 컨트랙트 안에서 적용까지
모두 이제 아이리스 안에서 하게 되는 그 수직적 구조를 가능하게 한다는 것이고 그것을 가능하게 하는 이 Iris의 레이어 1이
바로 프로그래머블 데이터를 생산하고 처리하는 인프라인 것입니다.
그래서 Iris는 데이터가 저장화되고 수익화되고
실질적으로 활용까지 되는 체인으로 자리매김하게 되는
그런 인프라가 되는 게 비전이라고 생각하시면 될 것 같습니다. 다음 질문은 IRIS의 business model입니다.
What is the business model behind IRIS의 데이터 체인?
How does IRIS plan to monetize and store data with Web3 principle?
So the way that Iris as a chain makes money or maybe internalizes value is we have a heavily deflationary pricing model where.
As you pay for transactions, a large percentage of those fees get burnt, which reduces the circulating supply.
So Iris has two types of transactions.
We have storage and execution.
Storage is storing data.
Execution is interacting with Iris VM.
And for data transactions, we essentially burn 95% of the fee.
So if you pay $1 to the network, then $0.95 will be burnt and taken out
of supply. And then with execution transactions, we burn 50% of the fees. And the idea there is that
as demand grows on the network, the amount of deflation will grow exponentially, essentially. 네트워크에 있는 데플레이션이 곧에

데이터 저장에 대해서는 하드웨어 원가에 가까운 수준으로
아주 저렴한 요금을 부과할 예정이지만 이렇게 수집되면 이러한 합리적인 그리고 효율적인 수수료를 통해
많은 고객을 확보하게 되면 이 수수료 중 95%는 소각이 사용된다고 합니다.
실행거래에 대해서는 수수료 시장을 기반으로 요금을 책정하게 될 거고
이 중 50%를 소각한다고 합니다. 즉 저장에는 95% 실행에는 50%를 소각하는 모습을 볼 수 있다고 합니다.
즉 아이리스에 대한 수요가 증가할수록 유통 공급량이 공격적으로 감소하게 되는
그런 메커니즘을 기획을 했다 하고요.
아이리스의 성공이 곧 프로젝트와 그리고 이제 조건의 가치에 부여될 수 있도록 체계를 짜놓았다고 합니다.
Next question is the architecture of the Iris.
Iris chose to develop a standalone blockchain specifically for data storage.
So what motivated these architectural decisions
and how does the Iris manage different itself as a powerful and efficient data chain?
Yeah, so
as I kind of said, we've been working in the storage space for about over four years now, starting initially as this L2 and RWE.
We're processing a majority of the data and transactions on the network.
So the reason we built a network for storage is that this is a space that we've been playing in for a long time.
that this is a space that we've been playing in for a long time. And the goal for Iris was to
solve a lot of the problems that we saw with the existing data chains like Filecoin and Arweave.
And a lot of those problems were that these networks were very slow, they're very expensive,
and they're just very difficult to use. So the goal for Iris was to build a data chain that was the fastest and cheapest.
And the other big goal for IRS was how do we actually bootstrap some of these data applications that will actually drive demand for the network? previous data chains, although they kind of worked, they didn't have really strong demand
because they didn't think about kind of the end user and they didn't build some of these really
key applications on the chain. And we're taking a very different approach. So for example, as I said,
we have Brick Road, which is this data marketplace that lets you monetize your data. And now that on
the network, you'll be able to not just store data much faster and cheaper than other networks,
but you'll also be able to monetize your data directly on the network.
And the goal over time and the goal also at Mainnet is how do we enable developers to do as much as possible with the network?
to do as much as possible with the network.
So we don't just want people to store data.
So we don't just want people to store data.
We want developers and users to actually monetize the data,
compute on their data, and do everything on Iris as an L1.
So, yeah, that's kind of the high level.
And then why did we choose an L1?
Well, we wanted to build a network that was at least
semi decentralized and it was you can't build a data network on something like an L2 so an L1 was really the only option for us.

일단은 조금 다른 식으로 접근을 해서 이야기를 했는데
아까도 언급했듯이 조시 같은 경우에는
아이리스 이전에 4년 이상 스토리지 분야에서 근무를 해왔습니다.
알리브 상에서 가장 큰 레이어2를 구축한 경력도 있다고 하고요.
그 네트워크 내에서 데이터와 거래의 95% 이상을 처리해오는

그러한 활동을 하면서 여러 가지 문제점을 발견했다고 합니다

실제로 별로 효율적이지 못하고 느리고 그리고 사용이 또 어려웠을 뿐더러
비용이 매우 비쌌기 때문에 강한 수요가 그렇게 형성되지 못하였고
현재 많은 은채활동과 또 다양한 방식의 토큰하이드와 자산이 생성되는 가운데
트랜잭션은 계속 늘어나고 이용자 수는 계속 늘어나는데 비해서
사업적으로는 이쪽 분야가 별로 발전되지 않아서
데이터 생산자들이 이것을 수익화하거나 저장하는 것이
거의 불가능했다고 합니다.
그래서 이제 이런 것들을 아까 언급한 수직적 방식으로
데이터를 처리하는 L1이 있다면
좀 더 효율적으로 이러한 분야를 좀 더 혁신할 수 있고
다른 가능성도도 열 수 있다고 생각을 해서
이제 아이리스를 구축하게 됐다고 합니다.
그래서 이러한 경력 하에 만들어진 아이리스의 목표는
가장 빠르고 저렴한 데이터 체인이 되는 것이고요
네트워크 수요를 견인할 수 있는 데이터 어플리케이션들을
직접 부스트랩 하는 것까지 할 예정입니다
그래서 프로그래머블 데이터 그라운드를 만들어 놓고
여러분들 다 해보세요 라고 이제 라고 말만 하는 것이 아니라
여러가지 진짜로 쓸모있는 앱들 그리고 데이터를 모니타이즈 할 수 있는 그런 D앱들이 나올 수 있도록
아이리스 주도로 프로젝트를 만들어 나갈 것이라고 합니다.

So we're gradually sharing more and more on the portal.
But to speak at a more high level,
the portal itself, the goal is to serve
as a kind of a one-stop shop
for everything Iris for the community. So if you're in the
Iris community, you should be able to go to the portal and
see and do everything that you need to that you need to do.
They should have all of the resources, all of the actions
and the things that you can do all within this this this one
portal. If you want to get access to the ecosystem, then it should be through through the actual portal. Iris가 만들어진 계기에서 찾아볼 수 있듯이
팀 자체가 여러 군데에서 이렇게 분산시키지 않고 한 곳에서 다 해결하는 그런 솔루션을 추구하는 것 같아요.
그래서 곧 출시될 내용에 대해서 자세히 말씀드릴 수는 없지만
포털과 연계된 캠페인을 위해서 팀이 계속해서 여러 가지 작업이 진행되고 있고
그리고 앞으로 몇 달 안에 포털은 훨씬 더 많은 기능을 갖추게 될 예정이라고 하고 있습니다.
그리고 비밀 코드 같은 경우에는 어떻게 쓰냐고 물어보시는 분들도 많은데요.
이 아이리스 비밀코드를 오늘 공개를 하면 그 코드를 여러분들이 소중히 보관을 하고 있다가
퀘스트랜드에서 오늘 스페이스를 위한 비밀코드를 입력하면 퀘스트가 수행이 되는 플랫폼이 열릴 것입니다.
그러면 이 비밀 코드를 알고 있는 사람들만 XP를 얻을 수 있고
여러분들이 조금 더 우위를 설 수 있겠죠.
그렇기 때문에 어떻게 보면 이 퀘스트 포인트가
생각보다 중요한 포인트가 될 수 있다는 것을 인지해 주시면 좋을 것 같습니다. IRIS has a well-established community culture.
For example, there are some roles assigned with Discord and social activity tracked through
the KITO readable.
How do these two systems is different and which one plays a more significant role in
the community ecosystem? Yeah, so they're actually both very different. So the Discord
roles are more focused on sustained engagement, and maybe
like the depth of participation. So who is kind of showing up who
is consistently supporting people within the community who is
actually building culture within the community that is that that's kind of what we're focused on with
the with the discord as well and with kaito it's more of a focus on how do we bring more people
into the community it's more of an awareness focus where we really want people to talk about Iris to bring more people in. That's kind of the
big focus for us. But which one do we prioritize? It's not so much a priority. Maybe I'd say it's
50-50. Both are very important because they're both very different. One is more focused on

그래서 제가 한 질문은 이거 둘 중에 솔직히 뭐가 더 중요하냐고 직접적으로 물어봤는데

그래서 근데 약간 결이 다르다고 할 수 있을 것 같아요.
그래서 디스코드 같은 경우에는 지속적인 참여도와 깊이 있는 활동을 중점적으로 보는 것을 수행합니다.
그래서 누가 꾸준히 참여하고 의미 있는 기여를 하고 또 커뮤니티 문화를 형성하는지를 평가를 합니다.
그래서 각각 기능이 다르기 때문에
어느 쪽이 더 중요하다고 할 수는 없지만
회사 아이리스가 추구하는 단계에 따라서 달라지고요.
아이리스가 여러 등급의 커뮤니티 티어를 갖고 있는데
아이리스 디스코드 안에 들어가 보면
그것을 계속 트래킹
하고 있는 AI 관리자가 있는 것을 여러분들이 볼 수 있습니다.
그래서 여러분들이 관리자가 보나 안보나 걱정하지 않고 왕창왕창
활동에 두면 활동 정도에 따라 그리고 활동 창의성에 따라 여러분들의
디스코드 등급이 계속해서 올라가게 되고요.
한국 커뮤니티도 개설이 되었기 때문에 한국어로 편하게 활동을 할 수 있으며
이미 청취자분들 중에 여러분도 이미 관련된 롤을 확보하신 것을 제가 알고 있습니다.
그래서 가장 높은 등급까지 올라가는 것을 목표로 지금 움직이는 것도 볼 수 있어요.
그래서 한국인들이 또 많이 가져갔으면 좋겠고요.
그리고 이제 지금 단계에서는 디스코드 역시 꾸준히 계속 중요하지만
지금 단계에서는 더 중요한 카이토도 매우 추천한다고 얘기를 할 수 있습니다.
카이토는 이제 카이프라인 상단에 아니면 소셜미디어 상단에
아이리스가 계속 노출되게 만듦으로써
대규모 신규 유입을 만들어내고 커뮤니티를 키워내는 데 중요한 역할을 하고 있습니다.
그래서 현재 단계에서는 아이리스가 시작하는 단계이고
가능한 많은 사람들에게 아이리스를 노출시키고 싶은 단계이기 때문에
카이토 리더보드를 통한 많은 소셜 컴페티션이나 콘텐츠 크리에이션이 진행됐으면 좋겠다라고 얘기를 하고 있습니다.
그래서 카이토는 어텐션과 시그널 측면에서 중요하다고 할 수 있고
디스코드는 로얄티 앤 컨트리비션 측면에서 중요하다고 할 수 있습니다.
물론 둘 다 하는 것이 가장 좋을 수는 있겠지만
사실 소셜 작업을 하는데 시간이 아예 안 드는 것도 아니고
이런 활동을 하는 것도 노력이기 때문에
힘든 것을 다 알고 있습니다
그리고 또 이렇게 소셜 콘텐츠를 만드는 게 잘 맞는 사람들도 있고
디스코드 내에서 커뮤니티 사람들과 옮기종기 있으면서
대화를 나누면서 이 커뮤니티의 안방만임으로 다리 잡는 것에
또 특화되신 분도 있을 것 같습니다.
그래서 실제로 그런 분들도 많이 봐왔고요.
그래서 본인이 어떤 것에 더 맞는지를 확인해 보시고
나는 이거에 대해서 한번 노려봐야겠다.
이게 나한테는 조금 더 효율적으로 다가오겠다 싶은 분들은
그 점을 고대하셔서 내가 어떤 쪽으로 나아가야 될지를 해보시면 되고요.

So currently, we see the Alpa testnet and various social layers taking place.
So what comes next from now?
Yeah, so I think the biggest thing that you probably all expect is that mainnet,
and we're actually relatively close to mainnet.
We're quite close actually. And with mainnet. We're quite close, actually.
And with mainnet, we'll also have TGE.
But both of those things will come together because we're on L1.
So that's kind of milestone number one.
But a lot of teams treat that kind of as the endgame,
as the final milestone.
But for us, that's really just the beginning.
And from there, we're going to be very focused on a few different things one is iterating on the product front so how can we make the product and the chain better and better to really grow
demand on the chain um 100x 1000x and then our second focus is on on the community side we're
actually going to be doubling down so we're not going to kind of slow down focus is on the community side, we're actually going to be doubling
down.
So we're not going to kind of slow down with any of the community activities that we do.
We'll probably be doing two times, five times, 10 times more globally, including Korea.
And yeah, we have a ton of interesting partnerships lined up and some institutional kind of Web
2. We're already working with some Web two teams, a ton of web three teams.
So over the next six months, you'll start to see a lot of these become public.
And you'll be able to obviously see the kind of cool,
the cool names that we're working with.
In terms of actually in the short term, there's a good chance that I will be in Korea sometime in the next two months before KBW to do some kind of event.
So we'll definitely keep the Korea community in the loop there.
I don't know when that will be, but sometime probably in the next two months.
