and he he wrote this tweet showing that something outrageous like 50% more than
50% of the loans that have been provided to the NFT market in 2024 has been by two
wallets like two wallets is basically controlling the whole NFT market and
when they disappear there's just complete carnage so pudgy penguins is
like considered to be probably a blue chip at this point right like people
are very happy to hold it people are very happy to loan against it but over
the weekend all the lenders disappeared and like very safe loans traditionally
safe loans at like 50% loan to value had like the interest rate went up to like
40% 50% and there was no one stepping in so we were looking around being like is
any is anyone gonna come and provide some loans for these things I stepped in
I took a couple I think Sam did as well but we were like did you really yeah I
saw I did a couple he did a couple I don't know like but we were genuinely
looking around me like there's like a hundred loans here that are just not
getting taken I stepped in at like 30% like 30 to 40% APR but then it kept
going and kept going now if you look at the chart now it's way like they're all
taken now at really high rates but damn these these people who are borrowing and
getting absolutely slammed with this this right now so what happens to the
market as a result of like two to three wallets basically dominating all this
volume like what does it mean for us little retail traders because I think it
just means that every now and again first if you're a borrower you can always be
in trouble right because you agree to a loan at one point and if all of the
liquidity disappears and then that means that your loan gets refinance it only
gets refinance at a rate that someone else is willing to step into it so if
you had agreed with me to lend for me to lend to you at like ten percent and you
were happy with that the whole point is with blend I can cancel that after 24
hours and if no one else comes to take that loan your rate just keep going up
and up and up and up until someone comes in so you could potentially just be
screwed if the price comes down and your rate is really high that's when
like liquidations start to get more on the table it seems okay for pudgies
because the price was so high and a lot of these loans are taking place like 50
percent 60 percent loads of value so like I don't think any of these people feel
like they're in danger because they've got so much room to play with because
they're up so much so yeah it doesn't it doesn't look great and it doesn't
make you feel good I think getting stuck in those kind of very high
interest loans yeah thanks for the insight there I mean I got a question for
you because we've been talking about this on the space for the last damn
couple weeks couple months now and the narrative has been like utility is
bearish we've talked about it as it relates to the meme coins as it relates
to the shit coins and we've been talking about it as it relates to NFTs
I've been talking about it a lot sort of with this take that most of these
NFT projects stuck in the mid curve somewhere right now trying to deliver
utility that nobody actually wants that people actually want free money in this
utility does not lead to free money now my question for you is I had a
conversation with a resident bozo who is a frequent participator in this space it's
not double eight for us I would not have taken the take even half seriously but
they we have like a pretty like a fairly long discussion about why they think
node monks will flip pudgy penguins and overall take being pudgy penguins have
utility node monks do not have utility and I I actually feel pretty strongly
about the utility is bearish case in many examples however this pudgy node
monks when I was like could not get behind I was like could not get myself
behind it for quite a few reasons but I'm kind of I want to ask you be check
because we've been riffing on it for a while like what are your thoughts on
the utility is bearish take and specifically how it relates to pudgy

pump a bit but they're not going much higher than where they are so the real
work was done in the utility that they built in the community that they built
and in the relationships that they built and the product that they've shipped
okay here's a better question forget Pudgy penguins does adding actual
tangible utility to rogs kill the mean that's the take I think it's better than
Oh pudgy's bearish for doing utility does like the allure and the misty and
the like meme of fishing rogs and what they could be not what they are what
they could be get completely nuked by slapping like genuine number dollar
value utility on top of the beach I think you're right that's that is a
more interesting question and I do think that now those will trade in line with
their perceived value but there will always be an amount of value which is

idea what overpass was and I saw y'all were hosting a space and as soon as
that I like the moment I realized it was web 3 IP infrastructure I mean I'm
fucking old enough to remember Jenkins the ballet and the writers room and for
those who don't know the writers room was a pass you know that gave you access to
a platform in order to license web 3 IP and it was open to multiple communities
and that shit is trading at point zero three teeth right now so in terms of
what the market does and how it treats you know projects that try to really
support and build infrastructure for the shit that we care about which is like
this IP that you know comes up from the grassroots it's not great but you know
on the bright side like in terms of what they did with the rods I I like the
spirit of it right like trying to give some utility or royalty multiplier you
know to that that collection but I really think the meta going forward is
having other projects give you quote unquote utility and of course the only
utility we care about is free internet money right so let other projects air drop
your holders shit let other projects quote unquote dilute your ecosystem by
showering you with free fucking internet money and then let other projects use
things like your pudgy rods as a multiplier for the free shit that they
give you then like you can maintain the memetic value and the sanctity of you
know whatever it is that your core project is doing so I think that's a smart
move going forward like it just makes sense to me and obviously you know we've
learned from other ecosystems that minted hundreds and thousands of additional
NFTs that dilution is a real thing and so I think if you let other projects
kind of kind of bring that to the table for your holder base you're better
off you've had a lot of good things we could actually talk about Jenkins at
some point as it relates to the licensing because they were so fucking early with
licensing now there's a there's a lot of bottlenecks there was a lot of friction
there's a lot of bottlenecks and one of the main ones being it's like a
double-header like one you have to KYC and two you have to KYC for like a
very minimal payout and I think that turned out to be like that's here's
my like my opinion licensing I have a lot of them but it sort of lives and
dies by can holders get paid out enough where it's worth that the meant where
it's worth the time sink that's it like that is it start and stops there we
didn't talk about what payouts at all with Pudgy Penguin I tend to feel like
that's what it like the success with a failure of this project or not Pudgy
penguins project but like the venture overpass lives and dies by can holders
make enough money where it's worth their time to keep coming back and I think
for like for Jenkins at the beach like wasn't the case really like the payouts
were too small you have to KYC and here's the other part is it's like I
think we're gonna find this out pretty quickly with Pudgy penguins it's like
really difficult to find a profitable licensing opportunity like Pudgy
specifically is sort of an anomaly because they are funding in a sense like
the toys like they it's their thing they're doing the toys they found a
method of loop to like make licensors money through the toys but the reality
situation is you can't license every fucking Pudgy penguin into a toy and
there's going to have to be like outside sources that are coming in with
licensing deals and what I don't understand just like speaking candidly
what I don't understand is what is the cell for like because here's the thing
if you license your NFT in order to make like a meaningful amount of money
in return it has to be a pretty large deal from like a fairly large
corporation if you're a large corporation if you're fucking Starbucks whatever and
you want like an NFT and your branding and you're in your new drop and your new
product whatever why would you not just go buy a Pudgy penguin and that to
me sort of becomes the question because it's like okay you won't buy a Pudgy
penguin because it's too expensive it's for small businesses etc but if
you're a small business you're not bringing in a ton of revenue you go
license the Pudgy penguin but then you don't have that much money to pay out to
the licensors so it's like why would they keep coming back it's sort of like
the ultimate question to me right because it's like if you have enough
money to give a substantial payout then you have enough money to just buy the
NFT but if you don't then the money you don't have enough money for
substantial payout it is sort of this like this loop which I am very curious
and I gotta be like self you know Pudgy has to fund the intro ones anyone who
gets a toy deal is probably fucking printing and happy but there just like
can't be how many NFTs are there in the ecosystem 20,000 there can't be 20,000
toy deals right I think there was like I don't know what the exact number is
from chapter one or season one whatever they called it but it was not 20,000
it's like can't be 20,000 it's crazy that's crazy it can't be 20,000 so
then it just like comes down to is there enough deal flow on the other side to
sustain these fucking licenses and I I don't know we haven't seen it yet I'll
say that like we have not seen it yet I think I genuinely think tally labs is
first I'm doing the licensing and they had tried it in quite a few like
different ventures and the problem it really just comes down because here's
the thing we talked about all the fucking time nobody cares about utility
we care about free money if quote-unquote utility is the steps you have
to jump through to give people free money fine but if the free money is not
equivalent to like the hoops you have to jump through for utility people don't
care people do not care what you are building if they have no way to make
money from it and I don't know I think that's sort of the question with
licensing is it's like how do you sustain it who like what where are the
this was a narrative that was pushed hella fucking hard in 2021 every that
was in my opinion it was tandem with forever PFP it was like make your digital
identity get your forever PFP build out your IP and you're gonna get licensed
the VCs are coming to license your NFTs the corporations are coming the
brands are coming they want your NFTs they want your NFTs like your IP is
valuable don't change your profile picture and it I mean it did not play
out and here's the thing too the big brands that came into the space I
remember Visa came in I remember Arizona tea came in and fire they just buy the
NFTs like if it's a big enough brand where we care they just buy the NFT is
what we've seen in the past and I I think if anyone is in a position to do
it pudgy is for a couple reasons the main reason being they have already came
up with their own loop like their own loop to reward oh my phone's better die
fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck they've come up with
their own loop to make sure if you license as a pudgy penguin holder to
pudgy penguins for a toy like you're gonna make you are going to make enough
money where it's worthwhile so they figured out that part but then the
second part of it is like fuck you can only you know license a one in a couple
percent max toys at any given time so what does everybody else do and I sort
of feel like that's the ultimate question I mean beat check is NFT
licensing NFT IP is not like a graveyard narrative that we're like
grabbing onto from 2021 or is this could have real legs yeah I think you made
some really really good points in the end it's an economic problem and if the
hurt if the final amount isn't sufficient then people will completely
lose interest one idea I had and I wonder whether this was an example of how it
did work sometimes was when the only reason that someone would want to
license your particular NFT is not because of the NFT as such it's because
of your like you as an individual and who you are and the brand that you've built
and your connection with the NFT so for example if you if you had a board
ape and you had were like a prominent person on CT or you had built a
particular business and you were known for something in particular then maybe in
that case it would work it would make sense to license your specific eight
because you kind of come with it as part of the package but then in a sense
the only reason for doing that that I mean that's just basically a sponsorship
that's just like a normal sponsorship deal it's just like well we want a
relationship with you okay your board comes with it maybe we can work that in
somehow maybe that's a cool way to chuck it in but that's just the
traditional like sponsorship slash ambassadorship or something like that so
I think in the end that's where we go as creators we are ambassadors for people
where we are kind of working on traditional sponsorship things but the
licensing thing has kind of fallen away for that reason I think that's like a
worst take I don't know like I I guess there's like two parts to it here's
here's the side that goes with yours it's like all right to be fair it's
like people you could if you're like a super influential person in CT for the
most part people don't know your face they know your profile picture so it's
like all right if you were trying to do like a celebrity appearance in a you
know whatever some branding marketing whatever they know your PFP better like
fine okay you're right fair makes sense I understand that the touch points the
PFP hundred percent not sure like your real face your voice whatever but I
also you're right though it's like it's basically the same as a regular
sponsorship regular advisors have regular like ambassadorship you sort of like
hit the PFP anyways in the brand like you if you do like a deal with somebody on
CT like you get okay it's B check we didn't like it license his NFT but we're
still gonna like use his picture in the marketing promotions so it's like kind of
the same like I you can do it without the license is what I'm saying you can
do it without the fucking license and that's where I just like I actually
think your take was decent and it makes sense but I sort of I don't know
maybe it's just me and I'm the only one struggling with this but I tend to feel
like I tend to feel like this is gonna be really hard to find like actual
market fit because it's just like I like pudgy penguins themselves figured it
out like make no mistake about it and if pudgy penguins can license a thousand
pudgies a year then in 20 years they will have hit every single holder
everybody's good but the reality is they probably can't license a thousand a
year in 20 years I mean I wasn't even fucking born 20 years ago so that's like
a long fucking time so what do you do with the other 19,000 and here's the
other thing too is like when they open it up to like a mainnet or the full
launch like what the hell is the other NFT is gonna do who's coming in here
like swooping up board eight licensing deals like they're not it's not
happening that that part to me like I think the thesis for all 20,000 pudgy
penguins getting license and making money it's significantly more likely than like
bit boy jay's gonna pop up here and get it you know six-figure licensing deal
with that board eight it's like not happening I mean b-tech before I go to
them and what do you think I mean is your BFP gonna get licensed on overpass
I mean what do you think I mean mine definitely is not but the my only
counter to that is that I don't think for pudgies like I think one of the
reasons Jenkins might have struggled is because that was like the be all and end
all of that product like you the whole point of it was that you were trying to
you you were there for the licensing that was the value prop and that was what
you were coming for so if that volume prop doesn't work out then you're
screwed because that's the end of the the opportunity I don't think people buy
pudgies or associated with pudgies exclusively for this potential
licensing deal I think this is like the fourth or fifth reason why you might be
bullish on pudgies or why you might want to be involved with them I think it
might even be just like a nice to have like an add-on that people are just
like oh cool there's that also going on maybe I'm gonna get a hundred bucks
like at the end of the year or two hundred bucks like if that's the
expectation because it's lower and there's actually a bunch of other value
props that people value way more then in that in that scenario I think they're
completely fine where they're just like look we're actually sending you this
pudgy penguin on the digital side for a bunch of other reasons this this
licensing thing is just gonna be a cool fun thing you can be able to tell
your friends and you know it'll be a cool story and you'll make a couple
hundred bucks but really there's a whole host of other benefits finally a
decent take from b-tech you love to see it actually I didn't really thought
about it like that you actually so right is this is very much like a plug-in
bro it's like an add-on for sure this is not like you're not buying pudgy
penguins to license you bought a pudgy penguin then you happen to get an
opportunity to license that's actually a par somebody should just fucking
clip that I'm not going to but you should a hundred percent it's a good
take I do think you're right I do think you're right and here's if you're right
about the Jenkins comment as well is one of the I think there's a lot of learnings
because they they were I don't think we were super hella early that a lot of
things first when you go first you make like you do some things right you fucking
page some roads the right way then he makes it a lot of mistakes at the same
time there's no avoiding it I think that was like one of the fundamental
problems is that licensing like wasn't the angle it was like the really the
major selling point and then when people got to the point of licensing and payouts
and the combination of you have to kyc and the amount your kyc cuz you think
kyc doesn't matter if you're getting a thousand two thousand three thousand
dollars nobody they will kyc for that they will but if you're kyc'ing for 50
after a six month wait period it's a lot tougher sell it just it's a lot
tougher sell it just genuinely is and I think that that it sort of lives and dies
with the payouts like it really does with licensing like is it can you pay
people out enough where they want to keep coming back and they care enough
to keep coming back and participate like I think that is sort of the take

you had your own pudgy penguin Star Wars thing that would be a huge asset right
there so I think that is kind of the dream the problem with it is that I
think it could work out for pudgy penguins but you have a hundred NFT
projects trying to do the same thing when you think about valuable IPs it's
like there's not that many that you would want to use for a lot of different

think there is a very narrow window that some of these things could be
