You were 12 years old when you first discovered skateboarding
Like, but you come into an environment

But culturally, yeah, I wasn't supposed to be there

I mean, as a kid, coming from just having heart
That's one thing about Philly
You gotta just have heart
And the type of heart that I was proving was to be different
And that took a long time to resonate
Yeah, I, like, so, when some of these videos I'm watching
They said, when Stevie Williams showed up on the scene in Love Park
It's like, he didn't know anything
He would just take your skateboard and start doing shit
Like, and it didn't matter
Everything you were just learning at such a fast pace
That Yuba kind of came Love Park
Yeah, he was scared, yeah
And that's pretty accurate there?
Yeah, I used to ride bikes and shit
Love Park was downtown, Philadelphia
In my neighborhood, me and a bunch of kids from my hood
We used to go downtown every day
Well, not every day, but, like, in the summertime
Just, like, riding around the city on our bikes
And looking for shit, you know, getting into trouble
Stealing bike parts, just, you know
And then everybody would always end up at the fountain downtown
Because I'm quite sure everybody was familiar with the Rocky statue
But on the side of the Rocky statue used to be, like, little pools
So kids from all different neighborhoods used to meet at the Rocky, at the Art Museum
And didn't take it all the way down to Love Park
And that's why I used to always see people skating that
But I never really, like, fucked with it like that until
My mom moved me to a new neighborhood and my cousin rode a skateboard
And I was like, damn, yo, let me ride your board
And he would never let me ride his board
Because I used to be with a bunch of troublemakers and shit
And then eventually I followed him downtown
And I was like, yo, I know where this place is at
Yo, you can't tell me not
You can't tell me not to be here
Because everybody comes here
And then I just started following him damn near every day until he just took me in
Now, your cousin, did he roll with you through all these years at Love Park
Or did you just kind of grow into your own thing and
It was him, me, and a lot of other kids from different parts of the city
Yeah, so it was a big diverse group of kids
That was the thing that changed my life for real for real
Because coming from an all-black neighborhood
Then going downtown and being with Asian people, white people, Puerto Rican people
And then my cousin was just
But he used to drink after people and shit
And I used to be like, bro, you're gonna fucking catch something
And I'm like, you drinking after that Chinese dude?
And he was just like, bro, that's not what it's about, bro
I think we just found patient zero for COVID
No, this is like 20 something, like been there 30 years ago

Because I was seeing that eventually like two clicks form
And it was like DGK and draggers
Which was like Ricky Oola
So like how was that, like, was that actual like beef?

And you know, you got those dudes that grew up in the suburbs
And then you got us that grew up in the hood

And at that time, they had the plug on the photographers and the videographers and shit like that

But they used to tell us, tell them not to film us or take pictures of us
Because we just like dirty little kids and shit
Yeah, well, one of the biggest names is Dan Wolfe
So like, did you have a relationship with Dan or not?
Yeah, it was before Dan Wolfe though
When Philadelphia didn't have no shine
But, you know, always looking back and to give Ricky his props
He was the one that was really like ambitious about putting Philadelphia on the map
And he was the one that controlled the scene at the time
You guys still have a relationship to this day?
Well, I mean, you know, you know why I'm gonna say this
Because it's because the story of Stevie Williams and DGK has gotten so big
In like damn their mainstream because it was on TV
That it actually showed a piece of everybody's past
And not to say that I'm trying to like drag Ricky into daggers

For trying to put Philadelphia on a map and then showing us all what we needed to do

And me and my squad took over Love Park and made it what it is today

They already tore it down to me something new
But yeah, it's like a flat surface now
If it wasn't for Ricky being so ambitious
Then he probably wouldn't have sparked any of like
The energy that we took after he went to another spot
And we just me and my homies and my homie Josh Kalis came back to Philly
And we just took that shit over
Put it on the map forever
To start from like literally nothing not knowing anything about skateboarding
Trying to jack your cousin's skateboard
To literally making Philadelphia and Love Park
Not only that but I mean, you know you are on a list of the 30 most influential
Gate boarders of all time

Right in the industry of you know thousands and thousands
Of skaters right to be listed on the top 30
I mean, there's a huge accomplishment in itself
You know, like at what point and you like picking up skating?
Did you go? Okay, this is what I want to do like the rest of my life like what age were you at?
Oh damn that was that was quick. Yeah, so you knew right off the bat, right?
This is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life
Yeah, so so like early on obviously you had sponsors you had people coming at you
But you went the opposite direction. You said I want to start a brand. I want to start a brand or dgk
And no, no, no, no, I went through a whole career
Okay, before I started the company you got you got to do that to
To for the industry to value your company it all based on your performance in your career
So it's a performance and lifestyle driven sport
And once you get to a point
Hopefully if you can get to a point in your career where you become like a mega star
You could start your start a brand and then put your people on that you feel like deserve a shot, too
I just did it at a super young age
And I just had the heart to do it because you were 22 when you
When you started dgk, right? Yeah
Yeah, and that's like bro. Most people don't even quit working at fast food restaurants at 22
You went straight from skateboarding building a brand
Focusing on that and then straight into dgk
Yeah, I went from running away from philly
dropping out of high school
Running away to california
That's that's what that's what I did was that was that transition to cali was that the biggest move?
Was that the most impactful thing for your career?
Like and and the brand I mean no, no, no this is before I
So I dropped out of ninth grade and I hitchhiked from philly to san francisco to be a pro skater
Whoa, yeah, so I didn't become pro when I went to california
But that was a real pivotal pivotal moment in my life
Just breaking out of the norm and saying fuck it. I'm gonna just
Go all out and and become what I know I I can become
and it took a long time, but I stayed on the path and
God blessed me with an opportunity
That changed my life and my family's life forever

I was talking to him last night. I was like, yeah, we got this interview with stevie
Williams where I was like stevie williams and like like just to give you context the students are 50 year old

You don't make videos, but you know when you go to edit your stuff
All of the editing stuff is all there for you ready to go like all of the things that was super hard for us back then

When it's so many people out here trying to seek validation and call chasing
The least that was you had to have some type of talent back then at least
Today all you got to do is

And that was like a really dope name for a crew that we thought would be pretty ill
When we after we skated love park, we would just leave roam around the city go to south street
And on the way to south street, we would just be tagging shit up
And filly if you had a crew after you write your name you write your crew
So there was a bunch of crews and filly
That did the same shit we did but we was different because we skated so when homies from our crew
Put up their name. They would always put dgk. So I would do it
On some skate shit. They would do it on some
Graffiti shit, but it's all the same shit
Was it was it wild as fuck having a run from the cops every other day like you didn't know when they were coming
I've seen some of the videos, bro
And they would bring in like a hundred cops to try and get you kids out of love park
Yeah, that shit was normal
Really? I mean at first at first running at first running from the cops
Would be would seem kind of scary because you know, you feel like you're breaking a law and shit like that
I'm trying to get my fucking trip. Yeah, because some of these videos it's like the cops are like right behind people
Like coming at them and they're still doing kick flips and shit
And i'm like they're not even running but they're they're risking it all the way to the last minute
Like I mean, what's the most they give you is like?
It all comes from just you know, it's a part of the culture
And it's like having having heart
to be committed and stay committed to
What you're trying to do?
Regardless if somebody's there to stop you

I'm going for it the first time i've seen it
The way it looked now took me a couple years to go back to philly
And I for real for real like when I walked in
And I thought I tried to try to realize
Wow, why I was so depressed
In my life around that time and then when I went to love park
The new love park and I just started like
Crying like I couldn't even help it. It was just like my eyes was just raining
And nobody knew what it was and but my best friend that stayed in philly
I had a conversation with him and I felt I told him like
With love park being gone
And me not really being as consistent as I used to be
And there's nothing in this world that like
Could resemble all of the hard work that I put in
As a kid in this space because the city tore it down
And I almost looked at it as like a reflection of my career
And where my life was headed at that time too
So it all kind of just sat in
It made me think like about about a legacy
And and not being able to give my legacy tore down
By anybody outside of my control
But it was real deep yeah, I mean did it give you motivation to be like no, fuck you
You can take away the park. You can't take away what I grew up with at this park
But like it to me, it would almost give me motivation to keep driving like to push forward. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely
Like not even so much the park anymore
Because I left Philadelphia and I moved to california. So my legacy
Does live on and as me and him was having that conversation and he let me know that
Everybody in the city and everything that
I've done and we've all done together didn't go in vain
So people are still out here rooting for me to win
So just like keep it going shit
I did and that's how like that's why web3 is super important to me right now because
I feel like web3 is the place that I can preserve
And and once once once I realized that
It was game one. How long have you been in web3? How long have you been active?

I um, I realized what I could do in the space when I first got into the space
Get rich quick scheme type of situation and shit and I got into it like

So many directions to go that I didn't even know what to do
But I knew it was something special
There were certain people in the space
That was like a reflection of like what I could possibly do one day in the space. I just needed to

Why not learn it and that shit just snatched me just like skateboarder snatched me and it was a reflection of skateboarding because
genre that's growing and thriving
And but there's still a lot of core values in the space
And I and I like that I like I like
I like people that have values and standards and shit like right stevie. It's somewhat, you know
I look at web3 sometimes it's kind of like a subculture right now. Very
Like skating was early on it was a sub
People who were passionate about it, but you know, the industry wasn't that receptive eventually
No, you have x games and all this stuff and now skating is like one of the most popular things
I think you know web3 is on that same trajectory and you know you as a celebrity as a very well-known person
You know you saw all these celebrities, you know pumping, you know pumping these nft projects like real quick
And you know just no, not really not really i've seen a bunch of I got a lot of rich friends
Right, right, but you see like what my point is like you saw some celebrity
You saw some celebrities launch nft projects and it was a cash grab you obviously are not in it for the money
You've been working on this project for well over a year now
Give us a little background as to you know, what the mission statement is escapes and like what direction you want to take it in

and pushing pushing the narrative of
Of products and building a real

How do you educate people that are just primarily following you like, you know normal?
We in web3 we call them normies, I guess but
People that aren't used to web3 like for me
This whole learning experience since our first conversation two weeks ago
Like off and on i keep catching myself going back to youtube watching more skating videos
Like it's not inspiring my ass to go grab a skateboard because i'm old and I got kids and if i break something
But it's inspiring me to learn more about skating in the culture
And how that like is is blended in with web3 because you see it with streetwear
You see it with I mean, there's a lot of people in web3 that enjoy
Uh skateboarding in the whole entire scene
Like how do you how do you take that culture and educate them?
Into web3 to kind of cross, you know cross pollinate both of these communities
Making shit look cool and be cool
By building some like uh cool building blocks
Shit that I already kind of know how to do that works
Exclusivity right because in the real world
People want to be a part of something. That's exclusive people want to
Be a part of something like the point of discovery
And then also kind of creating that placebo effect
For people that want to feel special
About something that they spend their hard on money on
And and want to have like some bragging rights about it, you know, like cool shit
And I think that I think that that makes web3 cool
Having the intimidation and having a
Learning and shit and feel like you got to go to school or you feeling like you're getting scammed or something like all of that
So how do you make that shit cool?
So you got this thing called digital
Which is you know physical products and digital assets that allows you to engage
with your customer your consumer or your
and once people in web2 understand that
Product of tomorrow is going to have
They're going to wonder where did that shit come from and it came out of web3
the education people and learning
Like like breaking the learning curve and have and making it fun to learn

Like if it's fun to learn about it and you get some cool incentives
