Thank you. Thank you. Hi everyone, we're just getting set up here.
My name is Claire, I'm the social media manager here at Stellar, and I'm going to be hosting
So just give us a minute while we get the hosts sorted out and we'll get started. Thank you. Okay, Babs, are you good to go on the speaker setup?
Hello? Hello. Hi. Okay, great. We can hear you.
Okay, so I think we can get started.
Yeah, as I said, my name is Claire, and today we're going to be talking with Babs Labs about the
event that they're hosting with Stellar later this week for International Women's Day.
So on Thursday, April 17th, Babs Labs is going to be hosting Redefine Possible, which is
an event that's designed to bring industry leaders together to talk about emerging technologies,
career growth, and the future
And the attendees will also have a chance to learn a little bit more about the Stellar
Community Fund, which provides resources and funding for developers who are creating real
world blockchain solutions.
So before we get started, I just wanted to give everyone a chance to kind of introduce
themselves and say hi, and then we can jump into the questions.
I've been helping to plan all the campaign regarding to this event.
We're still waiting for Sparks.
I see Sparks actually. So let me... Okay. Okay, Sparks, I just approved your request. Thank you. Okay. Okay, I think we can jump into the questions and hopefully, Sparks, you see I sent you
But can you tell everyone a little bit more about the event and what it's about and who
might be interested in it?
Yeah, sure. So this event, like you said, it's special because it's on International Women's Day
and it will be hosted in New York City.
And the point for this is to spotlight innovation, inclusion and opportunity in the tech space,
you know, like in blockchain. And basically it's designed for founders, engineers,
builders, professionals in tech that are like in web 2 and want to jump into web 3 or are in web 3
and interested in, you know, like building more, connect and even get inspired. So cool. That's
awesome. And yeah, I can add a little bit to that as well i think i missed the first
question but hi everyone i'm dafti the co-founder of sparks labs and yeah we're really excited to
welcome a strong new york city tech community of founders operators and builders of emerging
technologies so the purpose is to of course course, celebrate International Women's Day,
but also to uplift anyone in the community who is interested in taking that next step in their
career, whether that's transitioning from, you know, a traditional tech role into more emerging
technology fields like blockchain, Web3, or from going to from a traditional role and starting their
own venture and becoming a founder and launching their own projects.
And so that's why we're really excited to partner with Stellar for this event as well.
There's going to be a lot of exciting sessions at this event, including a project showcase
at the end where we're going to be showcasing some local New York City founders as well in their projects.
That's awesome. I love that.
And why do you think that somebody in Web3 or tech would want to maybe attend this event?
And maybe you could talk a little bit about why you think it's important to celebrate International Women's Day in Web3.
Yeah, I can start off with that one as well.
I think this is a great event to meet and network with other like-minded people in the space. So if you're local to New York City, I think this is the event to be at, to meet people who you can potentially collaborate with.
You know, there's a lot of people in the community who are looking for co-founders to work on new Web3 or AI projects with, to launch new ventures with.
There's a lot of investors in the community who are looking for new projects to invest in.
invest in and there are some investors that are going to be at the event as well.
And there are some investors that are going to be at the event as well.
So I think it's a great place to network and potentially find collaborators and mentors.
And yes, I think it's very, very important to celebrate International Wednesday, especially
in Web3, as it's a space that, you know, I think needs to be representative of society
at large and the solutions that we build need to reflect what the needs of our society are.
And those are the needs of women.
You know, women make up 50% of our world.
So we need to build solutions that work for us and work for everyone.
Can you talk a little bit about some of the sessions that you're going to have going on throughout the event?
Absolutely. Yes, we're really excited to kick off the event.
Of course, having some representatives from your team at Stellar coming to talk a little bit about how to get funded.
I don't know if you want to talk a little bit about how to get funded. I don't know if you want to talk a little bit about that.
Yeah, for sure. So I believe Gemma and maybe Elizabeth as well from our team are going to
be there talking a little bit about the Stellar Community Fund, which is a program where founders
can apply and get funding and support from the foundation as they work on their projects. So I think they're going to be doing like a little talk as well.
Yeah, so that's going to kick off the event.
So very excited for that.
And then from there, we're going to dive into an exciting chat geared towards founders and investors.
And that chat is about building and investing in the trends of building in this
current economy, in this current state of startups.
So that'll be a really interesting session.
And then we'll move on to a panel on tech careers, because we know there's going to
be a lot of people in the audience who maybe they're transitioning into tech, they just don't know what opportunities are available
to them. And so we want to have people representative of different verticals in tech.
So we have engineering reflected in there, we have product reflected in there. We also have
blockchain and nonprofits reflected in that panel to discuss
the different verticals. And then from there, we're going to move into the final session,
which is the project showcase, like I mentioned earlier. And so that is the kind of run of show.
So we're very excited. And yeah, it's going to be great.
Awesome. I love that you guys are doing this in April.
I feel like, you know, keep the international women's energy going all year round.
Let's take over two months.
Okay, and then you have already talked a little bit about this, but what are some of the benefits for a builder or a startup going to this event?
I know you said networking, but what are some of the benefits for a builder or a startup going to this event?
I know you said networking, but what are some of the other benefits, would you say?
Yeah, so, of course, expanding your network, I think, is very important as a builder.
Of course, being able to get a front seat on how to get funded by Stellar through this community fund, I think, is a great opportunity.
Because, you know, everyone else can just look it up online and, you know, try to apply on their own. But getting, you know, getting the information straight from the team on, like, what they're looking for, what they're expecting, what they're excited to fund, I think is great intel as a builder.
In addition to that, we have some community partners joining us for the event
that are going to be pretty great for the builder community.
So if anyone is interested in like accelerating their careers,
we're going to have resume reviews actually at the via booth
so if anyone's wanting to transition careers and wanting advice on that regard you'll be able to
get a resume review at the via booth um other opportunities of course, I heard there's going to be some stellar swag.
Well, I love that idea with the resume review.
I think everyone can use that whether or not you're transitioning or not into a different career.
It's always good to get a second pair of eyes.
pair of eyes. Okay. And then you mentioned briefly that there might be some like mentorship
opportunities there. Can you talk a little bit more about that?
Yeah. So essentially attendees will have the opportunity to write down on a name tag what vertical or what industry they're coming on or
that they want to be in actually and be able to find like-minded peers and potential mentors
in that area at the event. And so if you write your name on your name tag and then you write,
you know, whether you're looking for to talk to someone in design or talk to someone in marketing or blockchain specifically or AI
specifically, that's going to be the way you're going to be able to connect with other people
in the topic that you're most interested in. So that's going to be the networking session
after the project showcase. And that's how that'll work. So a bit of an
informal mentoring, but still good opportunity to match people. Awesome. Love that. And can you
give us any sneak peeks on what the project showcase, what some of the, what we might see
there? Yeah, definitely can give you a sneak peek. So it being International Women's Day that we're celebrating, we definitely wanted to celebrate kind of a topic that is very relevant to women and what women are going through, especially in the United States. And so the projects that are showcasing will be focused on health.
So women's health and how women's health can be supported.
That's a huge, huge issue.
And then do you expect that attendees will be able to get feedback or FaceTime with leaders from the Stellar ecosystem?
I know there's going to be members from the Stellar Community Fund, but maybe other members of the ecosystem as well.
Yeah, so we do have a great attendee list of builders that are coming who have stated that they're members of the Stellar community.
So I think during the networking portion, there will definitely be that opportunity for sure.
And yeah, of course, with the Stellar representatives coming, that's another opportunity there.
But yeah, there's builders of all kinds coming to this event that, you know, will be great to network with.
Great. I love that. Okay. And then is there anything that you hope attendees take away from the event?
Oh, good question. Ooh, let me think about that. Take your time with it. That is a big question.
Yeah. Babs, do you have anything?
Do you want to add anything before I go?
Well, I think it's the change of type of events, you know,
that are happening in WebTree.
Now it's not just like a conference.
It's more of, you know, take your idea to the next level.
And I think that what we hope is that we get people to build and expand whatever idea they have now.
Yes, agree. And yeah, I think for me, what I want people to take away is like, now is a really, really exciting time to be able to launch a new project or a new business in a lot of different areas in Web3, of course, but also in AI. And so I would want all the attendees, regardless of the background,
to take that away, but especially women to know that and understand that it's a ripe
era right now. This is the era where the companies of the next generation will be
created and built. And so, you know, it's,
it's a good time to be a part of that if you're interested in, you know, doing something new.
Yeah, totally. And maybe we can, I hate this phrase, but double click on that a little bit.
And could you just expand on why you think this is such a ripe time for women in Web3? And maybe are there
any tips I guess you would have for anyone trying to get into this space? I know you'll probably
get into more of this on Thursday, but yeah. Yeah, definitely. I mean, just the rate of
technological innovation that we're currently in when it comes to both web three and AI is
extreme. So it's, um, it's definitely a moment where you kind of just need to
jump in and ride the wave or, you know, you might be left behind. And so really, really important that women have that opportunity to be
at the forefront of creating what's next and what's new and be able to be the leaders of that
next generation of, you know, the defining companies. You know, we had that kind of Web 2 wave with the Airbnbs and the Stripes and the
Ubers. And now we're in this next wave with Web 3. And then now AI kind of added a new Web 3.5,
3.4, who knows what is it going to be called a couple of years from now.
knows what what is it going to be called in a couple years from now um and so it's really
important to make sure that that base of people who have the opportunity to be the founders also
the investors um are reflective of who's in our society um so yeah really really recommend this
event to anyone who's interested in like where we are in terms of tech right now.
And I think that we want we should try to make Web 3.5 happen.
I think that there's some solid branding there.
I just added someone who I think wanted to share something.
That's Naisa from Babs and WebShe.
We just actually met with you in New York at Stellar Builder Hall.
So I'm so happy to hear you here.
Yes, it was nice to meet you.
So I just want to kind of like support the conversation and jump in here to share the perspective of Bobs and WebShe community
because we were like WebShe was built by Bobs like three years ago as a community event with
the diversity and inclusion angle and that's why we are like very aligned here with Sparks and what they are doing for like International Women's Day event.
And like one of our kind of like as a Babs, we are a women-led company and we always wanted to
support this, you know, kind of initiative. That's why we created the WebSheet. And we are happy that we have a chance to connect
with the stellar sustainability core values and goals
that are aligned as well with this event.
And I'm really like see a lot of potential here
in terms of like, you know, shaping the industry
by inviting right people to speak,
to inspire the new generation,
and also give opportunity for voices that have not been heard before.
And that's what we, in general, in Babs and Babs,
Who are you maybe most excited to have speak?
Actually, I'm like, I looked up there on the run of the show and I actually am very excited to hear from Stellar first because we've been talking a lot about the tier one supporting with grants and supporting with you know advisory and smart money
as well projects but it's really important to see how it's happening in real life you know and
actually to see the connection between the founders and what they ask what kind of questions they ask
what they are looking for maybe like where they're maybe where are the gaps and what can be improved.
So I would actually be really interested to see the feedback of the audience.
And I hope Gemma will share all of the benefits that Stella can offer.
Yeah, but I do believe that there are a few people from bg team is coming as well
if i'm not mistaken and recruiting from stellar uh so it should it should be a very interesting
and good event like in to meet all of the um you know to meet all of the kind of like goals
yeah definitely i'm certain that gemma will be talking about all the benefits and
hopefully answer some questions people have. So great. Well, I think we can,
is there anything else the team maybe wants to share about the event? Just open it up.
I think, did we talk about like how to register, how to apply? I think this is important.
Like maybe it has, you can share some of the details.
So how can we share a link here?
I'm not sure, but we can definitely share the link out after.
So you can go to to the luma page you can apply uh to
to get your ticket and there's a a wait list and there's a guaranteed entry for for 50 dollars and
oh you know you got it wrong because there's over 100 people already that have applied for the event.
So, yeah, I have the link here.
I think you need to go to Discord first, correct?
So when you join the Discord, there is an event, and in the event should be a promo code for registration as well? For those who want to have like...
Yeah, we have the event in Discord as well.
So you can go to the Seller Developers Discord, and you click in Vents,
and you'll find there the part of the event, and you'll find the link and everything.
Well, is there anything else anyone would like to share?
Otherwise, we can start wrapping up
and I will make sure to get that link out on Twitter
so everyone can join the wait list and register.
I think I can add from our side that we are really like happy to kick off this event
primarily like it's like how many like three days left yeah three days left that's very soon
I know like oh wow this is really soon it is yeah like, I believe that those who are going to join us in New York
will get a lot of benefits of, like, educational side,
the networking side of the event.
I believe that a lot of people who will not be able to join,
After all, I think we are, like, some videos we are going to do
within the event and share after all with the community.
Like I strongly recommend to try to follow us everywhere, you know, like in Discord and in Twitter for Stellar Build accounts.
So those are like the channels where we are going gonna, you know, stream some of the stuff
we've done during the event. And yeah, like, if you have any questions, you can contact Stellar,
Babs or WebShea, whoever you will find quickly. We'll be happy to talk to you.
Fabulous. Okay, Sparks or Babs, do you have anything else you want to share? Yeah, no, again, just really excited to meet and engage with the New York
City tech community. The tech community in New York is always very, very strong, so excited to
see a full house on Thursday. And yeah, from the
registrations we have so far, it's going to be a very diverse house as well. We have students,
we have tech professionals, early career, mid career, late career. We have founders,
we have investors, we have startup operators. So yeah, it's a very diverse crowd of people with
different backgrounds and in different stages of their careers. So I think that makes for a great
networking opportunity. All right. Well, yeah, as I said, I will make sure to get that link out and
everyone can register. And I know the Stellar Community Fund is looking forward to
the event and yeah, reach out with any questions. All right. Have a good one, everyone.
