Thank you. what is up everyone welcome in happy tuesday hope you all had a great memorial day weekend
long weekend for most people i know some of you probably had some work to get done yesterday i
know i was logged on for a little bit, getting caught up, but hope you enjoyed it with family, friends, and the like.
Obviously, this is Imp or Ryan, as Gav calls me.
Either way, Gav and the team are out at Bitcoin Vegas.
It's a Bitcoin conference.
So they're all out there.
But hey, we want to keep the
momentum going. Especially we are just a few days away from June, which we know is a big
deal in the Tesla world right now. And that's, uh, that's the talk of the town.
A lot of things that we can talk about today for sure. Working on getting the panel up here,
Penny looks like he had some trouble getting connected, but I am excited for the conversation.
Excited to see what everybody's talking about.
I know one of our friends, several of us up here, probably friends with him, Amit Investing.
He did a meetup in Boston and basically went from New Jersey to Boston with a beautiful video, by the way, if you want to check out his, his,
Elon even retweeted it or actually tweeted it out, but gave a little breakdown, zero
What a, what a ride that was pretty cool seeing that we're seeing more and more of these stories
of people having pretty decently long road trips and some in newer areas that zero interventions. I mean, it's just incredible that
we even scroll past some of these at this point and aren't amazed by it anymore. I'm still amazed.
We also saw some other news around this weekend. I know, for example, BYD in China cut their prices.
We saw a lot of the EVs over there starting basically a price war
going on. So, uh, a lot of things to talk about. Penny, did we finally get you up here?
I think we're working. You hear me? I hear you. There he is. All right, Penny. Uh, well, I want
to give you the chance. I'll start your co-host again. I don't know if you want to take the risk
right away or if you want to give it a second or two before you grab that, but we'll get everyone
connected. I think Gab's going to join us as well, but Penny, any kind of opening thoughts
as we dive into, I mean, hey, I'll tell you what, what are we? Five days away from June,
which is super exciting. I mean, I think that's the big, you know, moment that everyone is waiting
for at this point, right? We are approaching RoboTaxi month, which is just
absolutely incredible. From the very first times I remember, you know, looking super deeply into
becoming a Tesla investor, my eyes were on the AI prize. Self-driving to me was much more interesting
than an electric car. Not that there's anything wrong with an electric car. And since I've got one, I've come to appreciate many of the benefits of a car being electric. Like the fact
that I never go to the gas station. I just leave it parked in my garage and plugged in. And that's
enough for like 99% of my driving. Also the acceleration, I have the slowest Tesla you can
buy. And every time I hit the gas or the accelerator,
rather, my kids giggle. They're just like, you know, these cars are amazing. They're so
incredible. I have not had to take my car in for maintenance once ever because there's just like
really nothing to do on an electric car. But at the end of the day, what really made Tesla stand
out to me was the idea that they were focusing on the future, not just in terms of revolutionizing the type of car that I'm driving, but driving my kids to school through a crowded neighborhood of like horrible
driving parents that are all angry and on their way to work. That is like the worst possible
thing. And if I can push a button and have my car handle all of that from like a totally
stress-free perspective, I mean, that's, that's completely game changing, right? That changes my entire day. That changes
my entire week. Uh, people who value their time will pay exorbitant amounts for something like
that. So we're now just less than a week away from, you know, we don't know exactly if they're
going to drop it on the first, but we know we will then be in the month that Tesla drops
CyberCab in Austin, Texas. And we start this journey more officially paid rides as opposed
to people supervising drives in their own cars, which by the way, has been an incredible experience.
My model three with the old AI hardware, I mean, it just keeps getting better.
It doesn't make mistakes.
I feel completely comfortable in my car and my car is not the latest and greatest.
So I just, I, you know, I got to assume that what they're going out with on day one in
Austin is going to be incredible.
I hope that we get more information soon because I would love to be there.
get more information soon because I would love to be there. I would love to reserve a ride and be
someone taking a cyber cab ride on, you know, the first day that they're available in Texas. So
hopefully we get more information about that soon. I, you know, today's a good day for the stock.
When I checked this morning is up like 5%. I think everyone is just really excited to see Elon focusing on, you know,
he's talking a lot about power. I think that we're going to hear some things in the future
about Tesla solar. A refocus on that is something that I personally expect. And aside from that,
you know, he's just, he's focusing on technical things. He's back to the Elon of old, you know,
the pre-politics Elon. I love to see it. Not that I, you know, everything that he did was necessary
and it's a shame that he wasn't able to accomplish more at Doge in the government. But what I get
fired up about, I hate politics. I love technology. So to see Elon back focused on technology selfishly is something that I love.
You know, just it's been an exciting week paying attention to that, paying attention
to everything that he's doing on the timeline.
And yeah, as always, super excited to be a Tesla investor.
And just about every day, I'm, you know, checking the timeline to see if we're gonna get another Optimus update because I have
just generally been you know for the past year more optimistic on the timeline of Optimus than
most I think that they are quickly training these to be useful robots and as soon as they cross a
threshold it's just gonna be you know gangbusters on manufacturing these as fast
as they can. So a lot of things going on for Tesla. I'm super excited about all of it.
I mean, I did have that question. I was wondering, is there any, um,
any idea of the timeframe or is there an event that they're going to do around this? I wonder
if, uh, if we will get an announcement like that soon. I'm sure
a lot of people, I mean, I bet Landon is just waiting to set his destination and go ahead and
drive to Austin whenever those first robo taxis are. I wonder how many Tesla fans maybe out on
the West Coast are sitting there with a flight in their basket, waiting to book it to get out
there to Austin whenever that does launch. Do
we have any details at all of the timeframe yet? Are we still waiting on that to be released?
As far as I know, there have been no updates other than June. So June's just a few days away.
They had reiterated June many times. I think Elon most recently reiterated it a couple of days ago. So I do
expect it to get launched this month. Uh, no one has got invites as far as I'm aware to any sort of,
you know, official launch party or anything like that. I would love to see them do something like
that. I would love for, you know, uh, 20 different people who are popular X accounts for Tesla to be able to go, you know, make content
on the first day or something and be invited and be able to download the app and get rides.
But I haven't heard anything about that. I think like often people will just be winging it. They're
just going to show up because they find out, you know, in a week or whatever, what day it is
that they're going to launch. And they're just going to hope that they get a ride and hang out.
You know, Tesla people are so cool.
Every time they get together in a city and have fun, whether it's Tesla takeover or any
other event, it's always a good time.
So even if you don't end up getting a ride in a robo taxi, just the excitement and the
caliber of people that will be in the area for the launch, I got to expect it's going to be worth anyone's journey.
I mean, who wouldn't want to be a part of that?
I mean, I do think this is a historic moment.
Gab, I was going to come over to you, but Gab is fighting the Wi-Fi out there.
I know some of our other teammates were having trouble with it as well.
We'll see if we can get Gab up here.
Landon, I want to ask you, are you going to try to get up to Austin anytime soon once we get some details?
What else is going on in your world?
You know, I've been averaging like three trips to Texas a year, and this might be more.
I was down for one of the Starship flight tests, not going to make it to today's flight
And I want to give everybody some info on that deal.
But yeah, June should see perhaps another big time flight test of Starship and the booster.
And so if there's some robo taxi going on at that
time, I'm all over it. You know, I'd hoped for kind of a shareholders meeting, but that hasn't
been announced yet. I kind of don't see maybe the biggest benefit to Tesla in announcing like a date
or a day or a weekend. But, you know, who knows what Tesla does. Every time I try to
guess Tesla's next move, I'm a little bit off the mark in my guess, but, you know, never disappointed
because Tesla's really exciting. And Tesla, the bigger part of Tesla, you know, is Elon. Elon
runs Tesla. He also runs SpaceX, the boring company, Neuralink, Doge, on and on and on with
his companies. You know, it's really amazing to see what SpaceX is doing. And today is a SpaceX
day for me. Today, right after this program, we've got Elon speaking at the southernmost tip of Texas.
He's speaking to rally the troops at SpaceX
to get ready for today's, this evening's,
integrated flight test number nine.
That is the booster that is Starship on top
with a hot ring in the center.
And they're going to launch that up
and try for the third time for an orbit
and a little bit of a Starship re-entry
to test out those heat shields.
Man, the heat shield tile people at Starbase in Texas for SpaceX, they've been working so hard on
those shields, the tiles, and they haven't had a chance to test them in the last couple of flights
because we've had some other problems that's caused some explosions and things like that.
But Elon assures us that they have found what's going on with those last two test issues,
So we're going to get Elon talking to us.
This is advertising from Elon Musk.
He's going to talk about SpaceX and making life, our humankind life, interplanetary. It is possible,
he will tell us, for the first time in our, you know, whatever you want to call it,
six billion year history of humanity. This is the first opportunity we've really had the
technology to become multi-planetary. And in two years, we're going to be sending that
Starship to Mars. And so today's test is a very, very important milestone on that journey to Mars.
And Elon's going to share with us why he thinks it's important to put all of his money where his
mouth is. In 2008, SpaceX and Tesla were both on the verge of bankruptcy,
and Elon put the rest of his money, he split equally between the two companies.
And that's why we have Tesla and SpaceX today. So watch for that SpaceX-Elon speech right after
this great space. Elon will be talking to us from Boca Chica.
And if you want to come back to me later,
I've got a great big Tesla supercharger summer road tripping conversation to
We'll save that for another day.
But today we're on the road to making human life multi-planetary and I'm here
human life, multi-planetary, and I'm here for it. Thanks very much.
You know, one of the really cool things, Landon, about being, I guess, in the Tesla world or the
Elon world or the technology, all of the above, right? The all-encompassing thing here is
when we are waiting on a big update or something to happen with Tesla,
I mean, what a great example there with Starship, right?
I mean, there's always something going on.
And, you know, when things get slow with SpaceX or with Tesla, then all of a sudden we get
a Neuralink update or something like that.
It's super, super cool to me, at least, to see, like, there's always some kind of development
Never a quiet day, right?
You got the tunnels going underground and you got the chips going into the brains.
You got to pay attention to five different things every day.
That's a good problem to have, right?
It's a good problem to have just technology being advanced and tested everywhere and becoming a reality, I guess, would be
even a better term there.
Gab, I want to see if we've got you connected here, if you wanted to jump in, if you've
got anything on your mind or any topics you want to hit for us today.
here today. Super exciting times for Tesla as well. Obviously, I think Tesla is starting to ramp up.
Super exciting times for Tesla as well.
Obviously, I think Tesla's starting to ramp up.
I talked about this on the GigaCast, but it's very much my assumption that with the release
of RoboTaxi, it's going to be one of two things. This is going to either be the greatest buy the
rumor, sell the news, and we're going to see a huge run up in the next few days is kind of one
of my assumptions, or it's going to actually happen on time and people are going to lean
into it and it's going to be that cataclysmic event. So I do think you're going to see some pretty wild moves for Tesla over
the course of the next month. In terms of run-up, you're already seeing it right here. Tesla's now
down less than 8% year-to-date. And I've said this before, I'd be very surprised if it's not green
by the launch of Robotaxi. I think that that's kind of that by the rumor happening. And we've
been talking about this for months. I hope people have been on the show. We talked about it literally at
the bottom, 43% down, which was exactly the bottom last year, 43% down. And now we're almost back to
green. And I think people are going to blink and we might be up 30% this year. So it's pretty
exciting. I definitely agree that reclaiming time is one of the most important things you can do in
life. I had a post go viral a while back where it was, what's the most valuable commodity in life or what's the most valuable thing you can buy?
And the word time by far was the most selected. And there's a big argument, you know, can you buy
time? And I really do think that you can buy time, right? You buy time typically with money.
And now this is another way that you can buy time with money, but ideally with a one-time
investment that's going to return time to you for a significant period of time, which is something new, right? Typically, if you wanted to buy time, you had to buy each time. You know,
if you wanted to get a cleaning lady, you wanted to get a mechanic, right? Some people to do things
for you to, you know, build your IKEA furniture, whatever it is, right? Each time you had to pay
for it. The goal here is that you're going to pay one time for a vehicle that then over time is
going to consistently save
you time without having to make further investments. You back to what Penny said,
where Teslas don't require a lot of maintenance, which is very cool, right? You don't have
a lot of things that a gas car has to maintain, which is why there's so little maintenance when
it comes to it. And if you went to the chart and looked at all cars sold in the US, which car
cost the least in maintenance over the first five years and the first 10 years,
both those things I'm pretty sure are Tesla.
So you're now basically making a one-time investment
with low maintenance that's going to save you time
continuously, hopefully over a decade plus, right?
And so that's where true value comes in.
So it's very wild how Tesla went from, you know,
cars to AI to whatever else they're doing to literally
just becoming a time-saving machine, which is the most valuable commodity in life.
So I don't know how you could have a depressed valuation on something that returns time to
And right now, obviously, the market is valuing it.
Elon was calling it himself, right?
He said, hey, we're back for a trillion-dollar valuation.
People clearly respect what we're doing, and they do.
The market speaks. There's a handful of companies that have a trillion dollar valuation
in the world and it's not by accident. It doesn't just like, oh, wow, this company has nothing going
on and they're just worth a trillion dollars. The company that's in a trillion dollars is insane,
especially when you look at the comparisons between revenue and other items. People are
clearly saying there's something deeper here that's being valued over the long term. And we're tracing back those future cash flows to today
to get this valuation. And so I'm excited to see that explosive growth over time and the market
continue to value this the way that it does. I think that there's obviously a huge push here
in the market from Elon, I'm back, commenting back to 24-7 in the factory, sleeping on the market, right, from Elon, you know, I'm back, right, commenting back to 24-7 in the factory, sleeping on the floors, you know, like leaning into it, changing the profile picture.
He's no longer Kekkius Maximus, I believe. I think he might be back to Elon, right? So moving
away from all that and just locking in, as the kids say, is I'm pretty sure what's happening
right now. So I'm excited to continue, you know, to talk about it and just be in the thick of it.
There's a very interesting crossover
as well that's continuing to develop between Tesla, XAI, and other companies here. They're
continuing to mesh, and this is the purpose. So very excited for this to continue to go. I did see
Omar joined in while I was talking, so I'll turn it over to him. But yeah, those are my thoughts
here on why Tesla's surging and why we're going to continue to see this document like it is. Hey, yeah, pretty exciting day today. We got a starship
launch. Elon's going to be giving a talk right after this space on making life planet,
multi-planetary. So don't miss that. And yeah, I think you hit on some great points, Gov. So Elon is, you know, back in tech mode, right?
He had his little government side quest, which people had mixed feelings about.
And some Teslas were lit on fire.
But now he's kind of gotten bored with the Republicans.
He said, look, I may go and cut a few Microsoft office licenses,
but if these dumbasses go into Congress and pass some massive tax cut and spending bill,
all of that goes out the window really quick. So he put out that tweet. He said, look,
the best thing I can do is actually try and increase GDP. And then maybe we can kind of
work our way out of the debt just through growth.
So this was like music to my ears when he said this, because what he's really saying is the way for me to help is really through SpaceX and especially through Tesla.
And, you know, Tesla obviously is going to have a huge month in June. And we're about five days away from that. So
of course, there's the launch of the RoboTaxi service in Austin. They're going to be going
driverless for the first time. I mean, driverless cars are really having a moment. Waymo is expanding
like crazy. Tesla's expanding like crazy. A lot of people are noticing, starting to use the technology and, you know, just being blown away by what you can do today.
So that launch in Austin is going to be really exciting.
They've also got a lot of new vehicle launches that are going to happen as well.
We've seen, you know, we've been talking, of course,
about the new, more affordable models
that we don't know much about.
We've got the Model Y performance.
We've got a new version of the Model S and the Model X.
So I think it's going to be a huge month
for new product introductions as well.
The auto industry continues to be challenging, not just for Tesla, but for,
you know, pretty much any company out there in the EV space, for a lot of the same reasons that,
you know, it has been competitive. This isn't necessarily a time where I think we are going to see earnings start growing like crazy. There's, you know,
excess inventory, high competitive dynamics going on in China, not just at Tesla, but
across the industry. But yeah, I think investors are really looking at this and they're looking at the growth of AI.
They're looking at what Optimus can do and they're looking at what FSD can do.
And that's really the story here.
So yeah, I'm excited for Tesla.
I mean, the stock is now up, you know, it's basically doubled in the last 12 months.
It's basically doubled in the last 12 months.
So if you're an investor who bought some shares a year ago,
your $10,000 is $20,000 now.
So I think that has investors feeling a little better.
I think this still has room to run.
If they're able to kind of prove out
that they can run a driverless service safely in Austin,
then I think this really becomes a multi-trillion dollar company.
They are going to be the first company that has a self-driving car that you can just actually go and buy
and keep in your own house that can take you all the places that services like Waymo can't go right now.
So, yeah, it's a great time to be a Tesla investor.
I'm excited for the SpaceX launch and the talk after this.
And just great to see the stock doing well.
You know, the Tesla short sellers are not too happy. They tend to get
very upset when you have these kinds of runs, like we've seen over the last year.
They start to get angry. They want to pick fights with you. And that, in my experience,
is actually a leading indicator of Tesla's performance. Because, you know, these guys,
they're just as passionate as the bulls. They really believe the company's going to fall apart and Elon's a fraud and everyone hates him. So they short the company. And then, you know,
they think they're a genius, but it's actually kind of an overcrowded trade. And then when you
have these moments where things are going well,
they are all forced to cover. And you can just see these crazy moves that Tesla is known for.
So yeah, I'm looking forward to June. I think it's going to be
a turning point in Tesla's history, right? This is really the moment where they're going from
just being a company that sells cars
and makes most of their money selling cars
to a company that actually
is really becoming a services company.
Ryan, I want to swing it over to you and see if you have any thoughts around anything that's been mentioned so far or anything maybe we haven't hit on yet.
Yeah, definitely. Thanks. Thanks for having me on. I don't know who it was last week. Somebody said, I think it might have been you, Ryan, that said, every time that we host this space, the stock tends to run up. We made a new high of day. Did you see it? Are you guys watching? It happens every week.
Like, it's just so uncanny. So I guess, like, I don't really have a preference for politics
Elon versus non-politics Elon. But yes, on that front, we're certainly entering a new phase where Elon is prioritizing his companies.
So it's kind of nice to take a step back and recognize that Teslas are not being set on fire every week.
There aren't a bunch of protests.
I guess the bad side is that we're still seeing a lot of negative media.
So when I did that Google to find the Tesla stock chart right now,
like just below that, there's a bunch of media articles saying
Tesla European sales plunge 49% in April.
And it's, it just is unfortunate that, you know, there's so many, I guess, like Omar
said, there are passionate bears too.
And when there are a bunch of these negative, excuse me, negative media articles, it's kind
of a sign to me that they're
getting desperate you know they're like reaching and um so it whether it's right now or or it
continues for the next year or so or or months whatever like it's really just suppressing the stock artificially like eventually folks will see that
tesla is crushing in in all of these countries like they i mean their sales are gonna gonna
grow over the long term and in retrospect we'll look at these charts and say, yep, that was a very small blip, if we even see it on the charts.
So I'm excited about the future of Tesla. I was happily surprised to see the incredible
progress made on the front of Optimus. I did not expect them to release videos of an extremely capable robot performing a wide variety of useful household chores by now.
I thought it was going to be later.
So it's great to see how fast that progress has been made.
As far as RoboTaxi goes, like as many of you know, I'm one of Elon's biggest fans, one of Tesla's biggest fans.
But just to play devil's advocate, thinking this Austin event could be kind of a non-event in the sense that if I wanted to take a Waymo right now and here in Arizona, like it's very fun.
It's just not something that I would fly out for.
And also, furthermore, like these Teslas are literally the Tesla's many of us drive every day.
many of us drive every day. So, um, it, and actually that's a fantastic thing for Tesla
because like in the longer term, people will recognize, Oh, okay. Like, yeah, all I have to
do if I want one of those is just go buy a regular Tesla and it's not going to cost
like hundreds of thousands of dollars just to get access to this self-driving vehicle.
So yeah, I think in the short term, you know, it's definitely fun and it is a historic event.
It's just that I think in practice we'll kind of be like, oh, okay, Yeah, like your Tesla can drive completely on its own.
And it's going to be great when regulations allow that in all these different geographies.
Hopefully, the transportation secretary allows or is able to make it so that these regulations are constant across the United States and not state to state.
And then we'll just be able to take a drive from or be driven from New York to Seattle to California to Texas and back around.
So anyway, excited about the future of Tesla.
the future of Tesla. Love what everybody's said so far. And thanks for letting me speak.
Love what everybody's said so far.
And thanks for letting me speak.
I think it's funny what you said about, you know, not necessarily being super excited to hop in
or fly to Austin to jump in a Tesla just like yours and be driven around. I understand that
to some extent, but I view this as an investor milestone more than a technology milestone.
We Tesla investors have been looking forward to paid robo taxi rides, unsupervised self-driving for a long time.
Been building up to this for years at this point.
So I would just be excited to get with other members of the community and sort of celebrate that milestone.
I am curious to see like the results of this, right? Obviously, if something goes wrong,
there'll be a flood of people trying to short Tesla, of course, but if everything goes right,
do we think that is it an explosive monumental moment? Or is this like, hey, the promise was delivered and that's what we're
pricing in already? I think that will be interesting to see that piece play out as far as the stock
reaction goes, at least. I think that's going to be all about scale, right? I don't think we're
going to see a big move if 10 or 20 cyber cabs or robotaxis on the first week, everything goes smooth. I think that that's probably expected. When I would expect the stock to really react to news about cybercab or robotaxi is when they say, okay, we're in Austin today, but next month we're going to be in L.A., San Francisco and, you know, five other cities.
Once they start to really accelerate the expansion and it becomes clear that not only are they going to catch, you know, Waymo in terms of driverless cars on the road, but that they'll actually quickly surpass them.
the stock is going to really start to go parabolic is my two cents.
Yeah, definitely. I agree with that. I think generally that's an astute point to make.
Kim, we haven't heard from you just yet this morning. How are you out there on,
what part of the West Coast are you in? I never know. You're back and forth all these days.
I am in Washington State now. Yeah, I've been between here and California.
Southern Cal, where my older kids live. Yep, they live in the la area sorry uh omar i didn't get to meet you but i'm going to be back
down and i am going to connect with you because i do want to ride in that cyber truck
so i can't wait um i personally am really excited that elon's out of politics right now
uh i like it i love that he's focusing back on Tesla. I think you can see that in the
stock. The stock is making a huge move today. It's up, I think, let me look. It's up almost 6%.
So big move. I'm hoping that it's going over 400 here pretty soon. It's at 358.50 right now.
I'm super interested in Tesla's robots because I can see what he's doing with FSD and how he already has the technology there.
Obviously, with the car to be able to self-drive.
And so, you know, all the things he's going to be doing with artificial intelligence and robots, I think it's going to be super interesting and lucrative if they can be one of the first to market.
But technology-wise, he's so far ahead.
I mean, the technology in the car blows me away. It really does every
time. The only thing is I have a question for you guys. There are so many software updates.
Do you guys find that? Which I love because I'm getting the latest tech, but like I just
updated it twice last week and now I've got another update coming through. So
what do you guys think about that?
I think we're getting so super close to version 14 or call it full self-driving
unsupervised coming, you know, to your own personal car, maybe this year in certain cities,
maybe next year. But what that means to me is
that the Tesla team is working nonstop to get all of our softwares lined up to where we've got
similar features and the upgrade path is a smoother one. Now, maybe I'm off base there,
but that's what it sure seems like to me. lot of minor bug fixes but don't stress if you go
a day or two without these you know they would let us know in the history of tesla updates there's
been maybe one rollback that was kind of a critical situation so these are all minor things don't
stress about it do it on the weekend whatever works for you yeah lately they have been sending
a lot of updates that are pretty minor. They don't
really seem to do much, you know, maybe
bug fixes or something like that.
not really much rush to install them.
You know, you can install them if you're on
Wi-Fi. If not, you can just kind of
you know, let it sit there.
you really only need to worry about the major
updates, which they haven't really sent out a major
update in a few months now I'll tell you one of the most fun things about my about my Tesla
seriously it's probably my favorite feature of it is the summon when I'm at Costco and the other day
I was at Costco and I had just this huge,
you know, so much stuff to put in this car. I bought a rug, like an outdoor area rug,
and it was just really long and heavy. And, you know, I didn't have to go find my, you know,
car and try to take my cart, that big, huge cart, and get through all these people. There comes my car.
And because I'm in Washington State and we don't have like Waymo or anything, people are not used
to seeing cars without drivers in them. And all these like little kids were pointing, oh my god,
that car doesn't have a driver. So it's really cool. I think that is one of my favorite features. And then I'll like have my,
and plus the other big thing I love is like dog mode.
So I had my car on dog mode.
And then I summoned my car with the dog in the car.
People probably thought the dog was driving the car.
Yeah. She was actually in the actually in the driver's seat.
Isn't it fantastic that we have the ability to do this with our cars?
I haven't been in another non-Tesla in a little while.
I'm not sure if they're able to update with you know just over your home wi-fi i think or at
least i at least the last time i checked that uh these cars if they wanted software updates
then you would have to go to a dealership and then get like a special installation but with
the tesla like they can just update it and you connect to your home Wi-Fi and stuff like dog mode and summon.
Like these features are not available in other vehicles.
And we're able to purchase them for the same price as these other vehicles.
So it's really just, I think, something that many of us take for granted.
And that Costco parking lot is no joke oh my gosh
they are just amp you know i think that was the most impressive part of your story that it
navigated costco parking lot right i mean seriously and the one we're in you know there's
just constantly people crossing you know and everything try the one in puerto rico they're
in there it's crazy evan won't come to cost with me because he says it's too over stimulating
really i can't i'll tell you i feel that way on a weekend but if i have my tesla every day
every day at costco in puerto rico i was like hey i'll just go on like a random tuesday morning
i walk in and it's like world War II in there. It's crazy.
We need to have a space just on Costco, to be honest.
Yeah, I think last thing I'll say is the most impressive thing is you're just,
you don't need to go buy a new Tesla.
I don't know if that's positive or negative for the company,
but for the consumer, it's positive because you're getting the most latest and greatest in the car that you already
own with the technology. That's one of the most impressive things to me too. It's like I always
have a new car or something to look forward to when you get one of the big updates.
you know, one of the big updates.
Already in a year that I've had my car, so I bought it last July.
Already in the year that I've had my car, Summon came on because that wasn't, we didn't
have that when I started.
Hands-free driving came on because you had to put your hands on the steering wheel.
I mean, those are two major technological upgrades that have come in one year.
It's my favorite part, you know, just getting to play with the new features, the things they ship.
There's always something and they just give it to you for free.
You know, most of the features that other automakers make you buy a new car for.
And I see we got Ryan up here from the Kilowatts.
Ryan, you know, has spotted some instances of the new Model S and X.
And there's also been a new Model Y performance in testing.
I was wondering if you wanted to share a little bit about that, Ryan, or anything else that's on your mind.
Yeah, sure. Just happy to cover it. Yeah. About a week ago, I was actually looking for
the Rivian R2 prototypes that they had said that they were camouflaging in a unique way.
And while I was down there, it was my first time in Palo Alto for a little while. And
all of a sudden, I start seeing a whole bunch of small things first uh a couple new um model x's in a different color than i've ever
seen before uh and since then i think it's been spotted on the model s as well but when i was
down there i saw it on three separate model x's um uh looking closely at some of the other model
x's even not in the different color i noticed it it had a front camera. I noticed later when I was actually over at the factory, because I realized
I should not just spend my time in Palo Alto, but over by the factory, I went to the supercharger
there. And on my way to the supercharger there, I saw one of the new Model S's with the front lip
and the rear diffuser and no longer like a floating tee, which is interesting because the
Model X's that I saw still had the floating tee. But the Model S was a Model S plaid. The interior
was almost identical with the exception of like a little bit of like blue and black tape. The blue
tape looked like, you know, painting tape. The black tape looked like electrical tape. And so
it looks like that was like over the areas where you would expect to see uh led
light strips so everyone i think collectively uh would agree that that's probably what's under
there other than that there weren't any changes to the interior which i think is a little bit of
disappointment to some i think you know seeing the model s back at the nürburgring uh now seeing
this one with a plaid badge uh not having tons of changes it
also oh it did also have a new rear spoiler um i was hoping for maybe something a little bit more
crazy uh several years ago i spotted a model s uh down laguna seca raceway with an active arrow wing
uh or at least adjustable i don't know if it was active but um really kind of more built into the
trunk lid rather than sitting on built into the trunk lid rather
than sitting on top of the trunk lid but still exciting and uh looking forward to seeing what
they announce if they're going to announce anything or if this is just a you know uh
minor improvement i'm i'm thinking we will probably see some kind of either battery or
motor improvement i can't imagine they'd make this significant of changes uh while still relatively insignificant
uh still you know meaningful and some people who already have a current plaid may upgrade for these
things so uh yeah exciting to see that they're doing those things i also uh one of the things
i think is kind of a bigger deal which isn't as obviously a bigger deal as i saw a few like
several model wise the new model wise only only had Tesla's, basically like their taxi
number. I think it's TCP. And then that's a number. And when you look that number up,
it reveals that that is Tesla's registration number for running a paid taxi service.
So that would seem to suggest that not only did what we noticed before, you know, with Tesla's
video where they showed presumably a bunch of employees riding in their Model Ys as a taxi, it seems as if they are actually able to, now whether or not they are is the real question, they're able to run a taxi service in the Palo Alto area.
So the ones I saw still had someone in the driver's seat. A video I got seemed to suggest that the driver may not be using his hands
on the steering wheel as he turned a corner.
But yeah, that's kind of the biggest one.
It's the least obvious, but obviously as an investor,
maybe the most significant.
It suggests that maybe Palo Alto would be a fast follow for Austin.
So I'm hoping, obviously, so I don't.
I was listening earlier when Mr. Tanaka said that he wouldn't fly out. I mean, I would fly out to be one of the first in Austin,
but I'd love to not have to if they happen to do a fast follow here in California.
Muskonomy, we haven't heard from you on this space yet.
I'm curious to see if you had any thoughts to throw in.
If not, Omar, I do want to ask you, BYD cutting their prices was one of the bigger stories I saw over the weekend.
Seems like there's a full-on price war.
Where does that play in to the entire EV picture in respect to Tesla as well?
Well, BYD has had some struggles.
They recently saw two of their large dealership groups go under
in China. A lot of these dealers have excess inventory. So I think this is really kind of
an inventory management issue. They're trying to liquidate their inventory as they get some
new vehicles in with better ADAS capabilities and other upgrades.
So, I mean, it's really nothing new.
There's been a sort of brutally competitive environment in China for quite some time.
So it's not necessarily, I think, an environment where you're going to see
you're going to see rapid earnings growth from the automotive sector.
rapid earnings growth from the automotive sector.
But I think the way that investors are looking at this,
or at least the way I'm looking at it as an investor,
is if we can accelerate EV adoption,
if we have this sort of hyper-competitive environment
where EVs are able to grow, people are able to build chargers,
they're able to build infrastructure, they put chargers at their home, they put chargers in
their grocery store. That's probably a situation that ultimately expands the TAM for electric vehicles and autonomous electric vehicles.
So that's kind of the silver lining is EVs making inroads against the internal combustion engine,
in part because of the fact that they're just so low cost and affordable now.
The negative side of that, of course, is it's harder to generate earnings.
So you're going to see a lot of companies that
continue to struggle um that fail in some cases as many ev brands in china have um byd i think will
be fine but it's an environment that you know just continues to be hyperitive as it has been.
Appreciate those thoughts.
Any other big things that you want to hit on?
I know a few people mentioned, I think you mentioned it as well,
the Starship or the SpaceX launch this afternoon.
Tell me as somebody that doesn't follow it super close.
Landon, maybe you want to jump in first.
I know you dropped some thoughts on it,
but what is the big monumental piece that we're talking about today?
I know we were testing some heat shields and stuff,
but what are we looking for on that?
I'll be watching, I always watch in amazement,
but I haven't followed this particular story.
This is the ninth integrated flight test.
So the big booster that gets us up towards orbit and then the hot ring that connects to the Starship itself that goes into orbit.
So SpaceX is looking to test thousands of changes since flight test six.
And so we've got to get one of these to go up into space a little bit longer
and so we can test those heat shields.
But Elon is going to tell us about making life multi-planetary
and he's on site to watch it happen with us live.
And that's going to be somewhere around, I think, 6.30 p.m.
Central today. But this is the process. This is not NASA to where you sit in an engineering room
with computers for five years before you do anything. We throw this thing up in the air,
and we see what goes wrong, and then we fix it. And that's obviously a little bit of a generalization, but watching to see if they can
get the good separation, get maybe Starship to orbit, see how these heat tiles perform. They're
going to light up one of the vacuum raptors that works in space instead of in an oxygen environment.
And so just all of those little things are going to add up to the push towards catching the Starship and making the whole system reusable up to multiple times a day
is the goal. So that's what's going on down in Boca Chica, Texas. The newest city in Texas is
called Starbase, Texas. And that's what they're doing today.
Yeah, so, you know, Starship is huge for SpaceX, right?
This is sort of their robo-taxi.
If you've got the Starship and you're able to get that to orbit,
you're able to use it for missions that they use the Falcon 9 for,
you can get a lot more weight into space.
You can do things that just weren't possible with the old architecture,
both in terms of launching satellites.
I mean, they want to put a person on the moon using Starship as a lander, right?
They want to put the first woman on the moon using this rocket. So this is really, really important from a technology perspective.
Now, the last two times they've launched Starship, the launches went pretty well,
all things considered, maybe not if you read the media, but, you know, they were able to catch the
rocket booster back on the landing tower using chopsticks, which is just insane every time you see it.
And there were some issues. Once the rocket got into orbit, it didn't make it down successfully.
In both cases, for different reasons, it kind of had a rapid unscheduled disassembly, as they call
it. In other words, it blew up in orbit. So it's going to be really,
you know, people are going to be watching really closely to see if it's able to
successfully complete its mission in its entirety, splash down in the ocean. And if they do that,
it's going to be very exciting and a significant moment for the United States,
just in terms of our space technology.
So that's going to be happening this evening. I just asked Perplexity, and I think it said,
you know, 5.30 California time and 8.30 Eastern, 630 central.
So set your calendars for that.
You won't want to miss it.
And then of course, Elon's going to be giving a talk in just about eight minutes now before
Eight minutes right at top of the hour when we close out the space, I'm sure most of us
will be tuning into that.
I know I will be as I have to open up another space,
but I'll have that playing over on the side for sure.
Penny, any thoughts around Starship, SpaceX?
How closely do you follow that?
Well, I've been personally and seen one Starship launch,
and it was one of the most incredible moments of my life
i can still feel the crackling from you know the boosters from those raptor engines just firing up
uh it is you feel a sound and that's something that i haven't experienced very many times in
my life so it's really really special and just thinking about you know the fact that that this rocket is a a milestone on the journey to mars on the miles a milestone on
the journey to making life multi-planetary i think that this talk that elon's given in the next five
minutes or so is so super cool and i think it's one of the reasons why he's been uniquely successful
as an entrepreneur because he can get fired people fired
up about the mission right and can you imagine being a successful contributor to making humans
multi-planetary there's like you can't pay someone enough to substitute a desire like that right so
so I love to see this speech that Elon's giving. I think Fulmar's nailed something that not a lot of people focus on.
He said as he's closing up his speech that this is a big moment for U.S. space technology.
This isn't just a SpaceX moment.
This is like a moment for the whole United States.
This is a moment for space travel in general.
You know, Starship is the next step if we want to become multi-planetary.
So I absolutely love the program.
I can't wait to get out and watch another launch.
I really wanted to make it out there for the first chopsticks catch.
I didn't, but maybe I'll make it out for the first time when they catch the ship.
I know we got a lot of milestones to look forward to in the in the starship program over the next few years and you
know i'm just looking forward to each of them and to to soaking them up as they come because this
year we spent uh at least fans of space you know my my young childhood i got to see shuttle launches
or whatever and then it the whole program just sort of shut down and there was nothing really
interesting to pay attention to but now now we can soak it all in.
We're getting new SpaceX Starship launches.
And I saw a Falcon launch from my garage gym just a couple of days ago.
I wasn't even prepared for it.
I just, you know, I look out and casually there's a rocket launching Starlinks.
You know, we live in an amazing amazing incredible time and i'm just loving it
yeah and i think just tying it back to tesla i mean this has always been something that i
think is tied into the tesla brand when you see elon musk making major tech breakthroughs on behalf of the United States on getting up a new class of rocket, that's something that I think impacts people positively in the way they view the brand.
Maybe the way they look at vehicles like the Cybertruck, which is made of stainless steel, just like the Starship.
A lot better than, you know, Elon jumping up and
down on stage next to Trump. So yeah, if it goes well, or, you know, even if they have some more
learnings, the presentation, the launch, this is the Elon classic that people love to see.
elon classic that people love to see nobody even if you hate his politics can really be that upset
seeing uh something like what spacex is doing yeah that's exactly what i was thinking is
it is like this progress that he's making at spacex we're so fortunate to have in the United States, you know?
And there's an argument to be made of,
like, would he have been able to build SpaceX
But, you know, the US is fortunate to have him
as he's fortunate to have the US.
This isn't just something that's good for people in the US,
it's good for all of humanity.
at neural link like they're making phenomenal progress um same thing with his other companies and
as omar was saying like this is a good sign for people who may not follow tesla very closely but
now they see the progress that's being made at these other companies and they say, oh, of course I want to invest in the world's greatest entrepreneur ever.
I'm watching a SpaceX launch live and a gloomy, rainy shot right now.
Actually, I just started clicking around, looking to set reminders and I'm watching a Starlink mission take off right now, just 13 seconds into the flight.
Starlink mission take off right now, just 13 seconds into the flight.
And the stock is up as we speak.
It's a 361 now of 6.3 and a 37, we'll call it, percent on the day.
A couple of minutes left to the top of the hour.
I want to get some wrap-up thoughts here.
Gav, are you still with us?
Yeah, I'm here. I'm here.
Any final comments you want to kind of wrap up the hour with here?
I mean, I think we're all just excited on pins and needles waiting.
I'm glad this crew put the launch on my radar for later this afternoon.
Now I have something to look forward to today.
Yeah, the launches are super cool.
I've actually gotten to see a launch as well. And I got a really
unique view because I was visiting the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando for a trip with one of
my clients, Starfighter Space. And there happened to be a SpaceX launch that same day. And the head
of operations for Starfighter Space drove me over to the launch.
We actually watched it from NASA's base, which was super cool.
I think it's the closest you can get.
So yeah, I have like a pretty cool experience with the launches as well.
For Tesla, I'm very excited to see what is coming.
The stock is rocketing during our space as it seems like it just does all the time now
We push from $356 to $361 during the space.
We're just moving right now.
Tesla is down less than 7.5% on the year,
down less than $30 on the year.
Shout out to everyone that bought low, right?
You could have bought two $270s and you're looking great now, right?
I mean, even from $270, even from from 285, we're up 26%, right?
So you have a lot of opportunity here.
A stock with this volatility gives you a lot of opportunity,
especially if you have conviction.
So I'm very excited as well.
And it's pretty cool to see everything that's coming.
It's just going to be a big month.
And it's really nice that we've been doing this space for like years now.
And we just get to see the company grow together early innings early innings there's a lot of ball game left for sure ryan i
agree with that take thanks for sharing that gab um i want to thank everyone for showing up today
we are at the top of the hour penny any uh
last comments to leave with the audience today appreciate you always co-hosting the space with us
looking forward to watching elon talk about the road to making life multi-planetary hope everyone
joins me there absolutely we'll be there big shout out to everyone that joined today ryan landon
um the kilowatts i didn't catch the name behind it.
Omar shouted you out a little bit earlier,
but thanks for joining me.
Obviously Gav here joining in from Bitcoin conference
out there in Vegas, Penny co-hosting,
and Omar, Holmar's catalog right there.
Omar, you always have a good one-liner to end these spaces on,
so that's going to be my go-to every time I'm hosting.
Yeah, so, you know, in terms of Austin in June, it won't be necessarily material.
Maybe it won't be important enough for some people to fly out for, but the moment we see,
to fly out for but the moment we see we see demonstrated on public roads that you can drive
a car with just computer vision it's going to be an inflection point in the scale up of this
technology we're going to just start seeing driverless cars everywhere right now they're
in about four or five cities in the united. By the end of the year or next year,
they're just going to be everywhere.
And it's going to happen very quickly.
So I'm very excited to watch it play out.
Big, exciting times ahead.
Big shout out to the whole Tesla crew.
Always enjoy the space here
with some really great minds, of course, as well.
Thanks, everyone, for tuning in.
We do this every Tuesday at noon Eastern, so make sure you check back next week.
We'll run the same conversation again.
And, of course, any updates, we'll definitely have those.
And I am ready to see Elon speak, to see this launch later, all kinds of great things.
And I'm ready for June to get here because I just, I'm super excited about it. Big shout out to everyone
for coming in. And on this account, I'm going to close this out and reopen a different space
with small cap investing, a little different direction here. But if you are looking for
more content, follow me right over on this Wolf Financial account for our small cap
investing show. Thanks, for tuning in. Thank you.
