Hello? Hi Phoenix, how you doing? Hey Aaron, good. Just wait for a couple minutes if
Get a few more people in the room. Is that...
(coughing) (coughing)
Okay well it's being recorded so let's kick it off and hopefully some people tune in as we go or listen to the recording down the track so I'll kick it off logged in through the
Powerplay count today, but my name is Phoenix, the CMR, Chief Marking Officer, and co-founder at Powerplay. I've got over five years experience in the renewable energy industry now, most of which was in the residential commercial solar sector.
I installed over a sold, I didn't personally install but helped to sell and install over 10,000 residential systems, solar and battery systems and around the country. Grue that company to about 30.
million dollars, a little bit more revenue per year. And then that company sold and me and Aaron left to pursue a new venture in Web3 that's a lot more exciting. So I'll introduce you to Aaron, our CEO, our co-founder before we kick things off.
Hi guys, Aaron Hilton. My background is renewable energy. I've been in that space for over 11 years I think now. It's a great space to work in, it's very
innovative, disruptive as well and disrupting a sector that's obviously traditionally fossil fuels. So it's a good way to make money as well and to build a successful career and it's something I'm really passionate about. And yeah.
you know during that whole time working in renewable energy predominantly solar, I noticed there's a big sector of the community missing out on the benefits of renewable energy and so that's why we're here today. Yeah, cool. So we'll just do a quick one of
one for anyone who doesn't know what power play is and why we've started it. I suppose what did you see as the main issues in the renewable energy industry, in the energy industry in general and how are we trying to help some people
reduce their power bills as opposed? Yeah, cool. Well, I guess fundamental first, during the middle of the day, when solar power is being generated, the wholesale cost of energy is orders of magnitude lower.
that it is during dinner time. And that is obviously because the sun is shining. When the sun goes down, it is mostly fossil fuel providing the energy. And so the process is considerably more expensive. The reason you can do that is it is all of renewable energy is just cheaper to
generate. Once you build a project, you don't need to keep driving trains full of coal to keep it operating. It doesn't need a lot of people to make money in it. So it's just fundamentally a much better, a much cheaper energy source, but obviously it doesn't work in evening.
And so one of the key problems our project is designed to address is to create an adequate incentive for people that don't have their own panels on their roof to kind of act and think like they do.
from when people get solar, they'll actually try and shift their energy usage to the daytime because that's when their solar panels are generating energy and it's you know most financially beneficial for them to do so. But if you're in a renting scenario, your tariffs, you know, that's your billing rates don't really change that mind
And so you're very little in-centred, it's actually optimized usage. And so people will just use energy when it's convenient, not really use any timers. And so what we've got is this really big problem in the grid where the cost of power is significantly more expensive in the evening.
