The Harmonic Technology Guild
Overview The Harmonic Technology Guild is a NFT utilities and distribution technology development collective. We are a democratic decentralized autonomous company providing a full suite of NFT products and services. Product We build NFT utilities for musicians, music businesses, artists, and entrepreneurs. To serve our clients and their fans we provide: • decentralized audio and video consumption websites, • client domain-hosted, custom aesthetic NFT marketplaces, • in-person and online airdrop technologies, and • NFT-based digital community management and support tools. Our goal is to create online spaces for fan-to-artist micro-communities, where NFTs are the marker of ownership and the tool of interaction. Problem The social media and content monopolies have proven themselves to be bad actors. They have taken more than their fair share of revenues, set the prices for content consumption without regard to artist wishes, manipulated traffic, arbitrarily censored content, and in some cases failed to stop intellectual property rights violations. Solution Our system is designed to help usher in the new era of media consumption by helping artists and fans free themselves the social media and content monopolies. Our democratic autonomous company will steward and administer a market of content creation and consumption. We will onboard artists and fans one by one, meeting them at concerts and festivals and through a network of business developers, labels, managers, and promotors. In onboarding these artists and fans, and collaborating with others in the content NFT space who share our values and transparency, we hope to bridge the gap to get positive network effect and become a primary front end for media consumption. Monetization For our artists we provide custom or pre-defined marketplace smart contracts which respect the collaborative nature of music creation, and management and label contracts. This technology enables us to immediately pass through revenues to everyone who collaborated on the art. It is also the primary component of how we are compensated for our services, alongside upfront build fees. Our group charges between 10-20% of the totally proceeds of sale and 1-2% of continuing sales. With this royalty share, we are able to immediately compensate various middlemen as well, especially influencers, independent managers, and promoters. In addition to our compensation model, smart contract based royalties are paired with decentralized data storage to compose our firm’s governance. They are our voting percentages, membership units for our LLC, and the splits of dividend distribution. We looking to raise funds to support our mission. |

Fabstir Web3 Media Player for Cinema Distribution
Democratising cinema ----------------------------- Additional development to Fabstir Web3 Media Player to enable filmmakers to easily distribute DCP (Digital Cinema Package) format movie files to cinemas and cinema chains to download to their projectors for screening. The player and Web3 digital wallets such as MetaMask will be used to ensure that the private (DKDM, distribution key delivery message) key file used to decrypt the movie file remains hidden and is never sent, thus preventing copying of the media content or exporting to normal video files. Recording our history and culture in cinema quality projection format on decentralised storage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fabstir Web3 Media Player will use GPUs to transcode uploaded files at the fastest speed possible to 2K/4K surround sound DCP format. Then store the content on decentralised storage such as SIA storage or Arweave. The latter enables storing of movies permanently (without degradation) in the highest quality projection format for future generations; something for the first time, the human race can properly achieve. Making it easy for filmmakers to send their movie direct to cinema chains and festivals ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fabstir Web3 Media Player will make the process easy to do and fast to transcode a film to the right format. Using digital wallets such as MetaMask, the master key (DKDM) never has to be given out to cinema chains and distributors, instead will remain with the property of the filmmaker. For example, the distributor would simply log into Fabstir Web3 Media Player with their digital wallet to unlock access to generate KDM keys for each cinema projector and to download the movie that will only play on their projectors. This process also makes it easy and safe to send movies to film festivals too. Cost effective ------------------ A DCP can cost from $1000-$3000 to produce at a post-production house. And that doesn’t include the storage which can be the cost of a hard drive or a centralised cloud service like Google drive. File sizes are large at 200GB for a 4K movie and 300GB+ for a 3D movie. Fabstir Web3 Media Player can bring these costs down to a minimal for the compute (to transcode) and as little as $1 a month for decentralised storage on a CDN layer with SIA. Plus provide for all the KDM keys management. Censorship resistance ----------------------------- The benefit of Web3 can be fully utilised here, where the content creator doesn’t need to have a bank account as payments can be made using the digital wallet. Plus, costs are significantly reduced and with a reliable internet connection, thus filmmakers from around the world can afford to send their movie to any digital cinema in theory, for projection. Store once use many ---------------------------- DCP is a rigid format and adding subtitles later means creating storage for another DCP. With Fabstir Web3 Media Player, this is not necessary as the new DCP will be able to be temporarily constructed at download time on the fly, from the DCP MXF files that were originally uploaded. This saves in cost and time. Revenue model ---------------------- The fee is 10% to Fabstir on top of the cost of storage to SIA or Arweave. Plus 10% of any costs to download (e.g. for intermediate stages) and compute costs (e.g. for transcoding). Short Bio of the developer ----------------------------------------- Jules Lai holds degree level and Msc in computing and in mathematics. Based in London (UK), he worked as senior software developer designing and implementing financial modelling software used by corporations such as Lloyd’s of London and the Bank of England. Since summer 2021, he has been devoted to developing a Web3 media platform for content creators to encourage creative freedom, greater diversity of content, censorship resistance and fairer income for creators. In his spare time, he has run some of the largest filmmaking and film business communities (Non-Multiplex Cinema and Film Means Business) in the UK for over a decade. Jules Lai is the CEO and CTO of Fabstir. A start-up company that has built a one-stop platform for video and music streaming, e-commerce, social media and fundraising. The website for details: https://fabstir.com/ Budget ----------- The project is requesting $30,000 for one year. $25,000 to the salary of Jules Lai to build upon the Fabstir Web3 Media Player, to allow users to create DCP for their movie, to upload to Arweave, to provide advanced management control of decryption keys (via MetaMask) and to produce repackaged DCPs for additional localisation at minimal expense. $5000 Additional costs to include marketing/brand design, solidity audit, Akash network costs, backup drive, ancillary software, and other promotion costs. Work divided into four quarters for the year: Milestone 1 Implement DCP transcoder with GPUs. Milestone 2 Integrate this into Fabstir Web3 Media player and MetaMask Sans environment. Produce playback without encryption. Milestone 3 Implement full encryption/decryption and generate KDM keys for given projector certificate and input to restrict allowable playback period. Testing. Milestone 4 Add easy digital currency payment features for costs and fees to transcode, store and deliver DCP. Open Source -------------------- This project is FOSS (free and open source software) under MIT license. Conclusion -------------- Currently, the Fabstir Web3 Media Player has received a grant from the Sia Foundation: https://blog.sia.tech/grants-program-update-december-2022-f7be5f103d13 This new proposal is to enable additional work to be done to Fabstir Web3 Media Player that allows filmmakers to create their movie in DCP cinema projection format, with easy creation and management of decryption keys by using a Web3 wallet that enables for secure online direct distribution to cinemas and film festivals. At low cost and with no middlemen necessary. Truly democratising cinemas for filmmakers. |
