Thank you. Thank you. Hey, everyone. Welcome. Erin, shall we get the show started?
And there are so many cool projects to talk through as we cover the Gitcoin round open right now and are highlighting DSi and DSi related projects.
Yeah, absolutely.
So, you know, in sort of like traditional fashion, I guess I'll open up the show.
Welcome to DSai Mike.
Our episode today is about Gitcoin Grants Round 20, which features a $25,000 matching pool for Desai projects, which is phenomenal.
As always, I am joined by my co-host Aaron McGinnis and Crypto Shrimp PhD, who's behind the Decide Mike account.
I think the plan today is sort of, first of all, discuss projects that are noteworthy and likely going to be in the round and also give
you know projects folks in the audience a chance to sort of talk about you know
they're either their own project or their their favorite project and you
know we'll keep it you know in a usual, perhaps I'll turn it over to Aaron
to sort of kick it off, maybe with just like an overview of this Gitcoin
upcoming round, as well as some of the projects that you're excited about.

Absolutely.
Gitcoin really is,
kind of holds a dear spot
in a lot of Desai founders
and core people's minds
because it really has helped kickstart
the Desai ecosystem,
starting with having a main round
back in Gitcoin round 15, where over half million
dollars was allocated to 82 different projects in the ecosystem. And since then, the D-Site ecosystem
has continued to evolve. More projects have come onto the scene and have expanded into new spaces beyond just kind of some of those initial
building blocks for DSi. And these Gitcoin rounds really do make a difference in pushing
DSi forward and also supporting some of these early stage projects. So that uh rod i would love to chat with you about some of the
work you've done within the gitcoin ecosystem in particular and then also dive into some of the
other like hyper related structures that you're building out right now too yep sure thanks so
now too. Yep, sure. Thanks. So I've joined Gitcoin on GR15 with the project LUNK. So from that
perspective, I'm kind of an OG. And frankly speaking, that's awesome to have these rounds
and things that in general Gitcoin does are super awesome but unfortunately uh on the global scale
it's kind of almost nothing even if we take the whole gitcoin with their 60 million dollars
distributed to public goods that's like literally nothing if you take a look at one single project except Wales
it's not enough money to sustain even yourself by participating in the activity which is not bad
it's much better to have all the activities rather than not to have it.
But I have a feeling that we are the DSi and general Web3 community should
be maybe a bit more focused on funding all the initiatives that we are working on, especially
with the fact that DSi initiatives in a lot of cases are kind of long-term investments.
In a sense, we are trying to completely change the way our scientific knowledge is created and generated.
And so I think it takes tons of time, like tens of years, is uh such long
and risky investments always been afforded only to governments and maybe to
several huge investment companies in developed world world Sorry for starting talking about that,
not my project, but the thing that really worries me.
That's such an important point that even though
these different rounds do help kind of initiate
or support some of these different projects at those earlier stages.
It absolutely isn't enough to really build out the visions that everyone in the ecosystem
is working towards and can really benefit the world at large. So lots more work to be done and also a lot of opportunity for investment,
other grants, and other types of support to go into these projects as well, as well as their
other funding platforms supporting DSI projects too. And some more institutional investment has started to watch Desai a bit more and are starting to make some moves. So I'm hoping that we'll see a lot more, um, projects really be able to kind of rocket forward, um, in, in bigger and more kind of meaningful types of ways through this type of support. But in the meantime,
while we have this Gitcoin round open right now, I know you've been involved with spinning up
different rounds on Gitcoin before, as well as helping just gain some support and awareness and things like that.
So I would love for you to share some of that work that you're doing
just so folks in the ecosystem can also understand everything
that goes into making a successful Gitcoin round
to then be able to support different projects.
Yeah, definitely. That may be the most important thing that I want to share.
Let me briefly introduce myself and my experience. I have a feeling that I forgot to do that. So
by trade I'm a mathematician and a software systems engineer but for the last six years I've been a professional space systems engineer
and I've designed a device for the UK company Spacebit
that was installed on the astrobotic Peregrine lander
that was launched to the moon early this year.
Unfortunately, the lander didn't reach the moon,
so I cannot say that the device, the type engineer,
is on the moon, but it will happen.
And with all experience, two years ago,
I started the project LUNK.
LUNK is an open source software for designing space missions.
The catch is that there are already tons of existing software that does it,
but unfortunately that software costs tons of money.
And it costs tons of money for a reason.
All of those software took tons of time and efforts for tons of people to create.
Unfortunately, working on that project, most of the time I have to spend not on software,
not on building relationships with space companies,
but looking for the way how to fundraise and how to organize internal development to deliver such things at a decent quality.
And I've been kind of following Gitcoin way, in a sense I participated in launching tons of different rounds on Gitcoin, but the thing is that from a high perspective all of those sometimes or maybe even most of the time we will percept Gitcoin and quadratic funding activities in a sense kind of like
It's kind of like Kickstarter, I'd say, but on a high level it's actually something different.
And when you do round management, you start to understand that actually it's more about designing complex systems and designing different insensitives for different people who participate in that system.
And huge shout out to an initiative called the Token Engineering Commons for supporting LUNCO on the last round and in general for everything that they're doing because the whole idea like token engineering is relatively a new field that
emerged i have a vision that just emerges it's not even emerged um uh it's a discipline that
It's a discipline that tries to find sustainable ways how to create systems with different
insensitives that achieve different goals.
I'm sorry that maybe I'm speaking a bit too abstract, but at its core, token engineering is about...
quadratic funding rounds are an example of such a complicated abstract start, but after all, after all of the
experiments and knowledge, I came to the idea of launching rounds on Gitcoins that would
that rounds on Gitcoins that would just focus on onboarding new projects into Web3 and
finding funds for for DSi projects but to do it in the past a new way of government has to be
In the past, a new way of government has to be created.
In a sense that now there are tons of rounds on Gitcoin and it's super cool,
but most of the rounds, including GSI, they in a sense still follow Web2 approach
to address certain things, which is not bad.
It's really great to have any system than to have no system at all.
But we are missing with most of the rounds on Gitcoin,
we are missing tons of new coordination mechanisms like conviction voting
and tons of tons of different cool mechanisms to make decisions, but the main decisions are what actually, like when projects are applied to around,
how can we be sure that they are really decided. Nowadays it's addressed by selecting stewards, but I have a feeling that there has to be a
community-driven decision based on new Web3 coordination mechanisms.
So to simplify, sorry for taking so much time.
So to address all of those issues, I started the initiative called HyperDESAI.
And the final goal is to create a Web3 hyper structure that will
fuel Deci projects and the three hyper structures it's a super cool term I
would highly recommend everyone to to familiarize themselves with the term
because that one of the new mind-blowing mechanisms that are possible thanks to Web3
that potentially could address some of the issues that we meet with the DSi funding.
But at its core, and simply speaking, HyperDSi is just a structure that has to move fast
and can conduct tons of experiments, including different funding strategies on Allovi2
to address the issues that we are all faced with.
So, if anyone interested in participating in the initiative, I've pinned a post with some of the ideas and happy to get in touch and happy to hear comments from everyone who are interested in the question, like how can we fund Desai, how can we make it fair and how can we make it more sustainable and get more funds, allowing projects not to just be kickstarted, but to actually come to a stage when they can deliver something tangible.
Because, you know, to get to this stage, it takes a lot of efforts, a lot of resources.
And as a space engineer, I want to do space engineering, I want to do software,
but unfortunately, most of the time I have to deal with funding, with coordination mechanisms and hopefully with HyperDSI it could be slightly changed.
So less time spent by me, by projects on bureaucracy and more time on value. So that's the idea.

about the work that you've put into the ecosystem
and also just covering some of these other points
that are really kind of essential to understand kind of how
DSI is positioned right now and just other considerations to keep in mind as we continue
supporting different projects within the space and continue to advance this ecosystem as well.

In the meantime, I'll kind of share a making sure it's also accessible to Spanish and Portuguese
speaking audiences. Another category is broader ecosystem efforts with these matrix,
D-Sive round ops, which are the stewards that are really kind of enabling these rounds to operate by analyzing the different
submissions and ensuring they fit within the DSI ethos, going back to the point you were making a
few minutes ago, Rod. Another category is on different DSI and bio DAOs. A few examples are Asterisk DAO, Poseidon DAO, Messer Reef DAO. And then a last
category focused on research, such as Cosmoscience, the Sires, Just DNA Sequence. And then one more
category that the Sire has really a strong kind of representation of, which is in the space sector. And I know, Rod, you were
touching on that a little bit before with some of your projects and work, and just not having
much exposure work previously in the space sector myself. This was one that over the past year to year and a half has really kind of come
into the scene. So a lot of really cool opportunities to support and get involved with
what space science and space exploration can look like. And I think that really is a great example of what decentralized opportunities can help us explore, which is these deep frontier different spaces such as space itself.

to whoever you are catching me from yeah this is
Victor behind Disayouth calling from uh Nalobi Kenya and so excited to be on this space yeah so
I'm very happy to share about uh Disayouth and uh our focus and uh to begin with this hotel in was just sharing and um talking about design
form of the communities the biodials the research and also the space projects like the kind of
categories that are there in the design space so what we are doing as the disayus is taking all the projects in those categories and showcasing them to the next
generation like we are doing this by tapping student organization this is our next focus after
first of all acting like uh i would call it like a DCI notice board because for now DSI is this an ecosystem or kind of very, very big institutions with a lot of going on in form of community research and many projects into this space. space so we wanna showcase all these projects uh and mostly we should be doing this to uh student
communities so that uh they can be able to know that uh dsai exists alongside their day-in-day
studies and uh the next focus will be on the infrastructure and uh this also boards together with the currently what the most
what are design projects are building on the areas of infrastructure pioneering that is the space and
some other design projects like muse matrix so we also want to focus by that on by boarding
So we also want to focus that on by boarding together student community focused on science
and those taking those pioneering the developer space.
So we already have them in most of the learning institution.
So we're going to bring them together, showcase this side and give them a platform to
or to also build some of these uh tooling and uh research projects and um yeah we believe that uh
we'll go along with towards uh whatever this is building and the mission and vision of the many
projects into this space and last later on we we also see this
eye as this umbrella uh to really many other social impact uh web 3 projects uh like uh the
leafy movement uh we also have the glenpill uh the solar pumps uh so we want to take into that umbrella and extend our liams later and showcase all what
is happening into these impact ecosystems. So yeah, and we are doing that by aggregating all
these projects together in a way that people can identify them easily and also sharing
all this information in our Discord server.
Yeah, that's our focus currently and I'm excited to see DSi glow.

The work you're doing really is so important to the DSi ecosystem and what the future of science can look like. around and continuing to watch and support you as you keep moving forward and really
specifically some of the work you're doing, just making sure that the global south is
center as we're building out what the future of science looks like to make sure it's front stage when historically, as we've thought about different scientific spaces,
there's just been some different designs put in place that we have the opportunity to rewrite now.
So the work you're doing is so important and everyone definitely go check out their project as well.

And so I'm personally really excited for some of these newer projects to come into the ecosystem too and continue building out what the future of DSI looks like.

Thank you so much for tagging us. It was great to be able to just hop on this space. But I'm Ayat. I'm one of the co-founders for Poseidon Dow. I'm originally an infectious disease epidemiologist. I still am until July 1st. Let's see how that goes.
on just improving treatments for patients. So the whole idea that we had initially is that we
noticed in the public health sector, like healthcare really is broken pretty much everywhere.
It's a universal problem that people are facing. People can't get the right treatment.
Healthcare can be expensive in a lot of places. So we want to make sure that patients are actually able to be cured,
or at least not have to go through these painful procedures to solve whatever health issue they
may have. So we were looking and seeing that like personalized medicine really seems to be the
future when it comes to treatment and cures for different diseases and therapies that we could be using. But there isn't
a lot of funding that goes to personalized medicine research right now because it is one
of those areas where it's maybe a bit riskier of a research project or it's just overall expensive.
So we started Poseidon Dow because we want to help researchers by funding their personalized medicine therapies.
This is going to be the way of health care.
And why not start now and really get the ball going?
So I started this with Marco, who's the other co-founder, and he handles everything technological for Poseidon DAO.
So he really wanted to create a bio DAO that was fully on chain.
So he learned how to code.
And we're happy to say that we have our donation portion of our infrastructure now on mainnet.
And we're still working through our token and governance mark contracts.
So hopefully that will be on mainnet soon.
We just need to go through the auditing process and it will be ready to deploy fully. So yeah, right now what we've
been working on is we've been meeting with a bunch of researchers, just trying to see who's out there,
who needs funding, really trying to go for these like untapped researchers, you know, go beyond the classic prestigious institutes
and all and find these researchers that are still equally as haliton, but maybe they are just
succumbing to a lot of issues that we find in the funding process of scientific research. So we are
just growing our community, growing our scientific community.
And hopefully we will have a token launch in about a month time, hopefully sooner.
And yeah, we are a part of the Desai Gitcoin grant rounds right now. So we're taking donations for that to really help build our infrastructure.
And we actually have a Twitter space happening in 25 minutes as well. We're going
to talk to a researcher and one of the projects we're hopefully going to fund soon. So if you
want to know more about the projects we're funding and what kind of research they're doing to help

there's always so many new things you guys are up to. So I'm really excited to see the impact that Poseidon DAO will have on personalized medicine.

Yeah, so those are a few examples of what supporting different projects through Gitcoin
can result in. It really does make an impact and allows projects to take those steps forward to
fulfill and realize their different visions and missions.

Yeah, I can. I hope it's not too loud. I'm outside right now because in many countries around the world it's Labor Day so there's a whole lot going on. But of course Asterisk is my one true love so that's why I
make sure I'm here. Hi everybody. So yeah I'm Veronica Kieran. I am the founding member of AsteriskDAO. We are working to backfill 500 years of missing
women's non-reproductive health data due to women being excluded from clinical trials until
the 1990s. And yes, that's a real fact. And it's sometimes hard for us to believe,
but that's why we're doing the work that
we're doing. And this is our second Gitcoin round. Anyone who's here who supported us in the last
round, thank you so much. This round is really about helping us get the white paper off the
ground. We're launching it at Block Split this year, which is at the end of May in
Croatia. So if you are looking for a sunny time and you're not going to be in Lisbon,

So yeah, Block Split also is a great conference. We have a great D-side track,
and that's where we'll be launching our white paper.
The funds also from this Gitcoin round are going towards perhaps a bounty for a hackathon to start shaping up the MVP.

I was just at DSI Nordics in Tallinn, Estonia, right after Banana
Conf. Um, both amazing, uh, events, but it's very clear every time that DSAI people come together,
just the stuff that we're doing and working on is absolutely insane. And it's so exciting. So
we're excited to be a part of it and, um, you know, so thankful
to the community and, um, really looking forward to going to market this year at Asterisk, um,

stuff that is happening on the community side when it comes to the community round so today
uh was a full day uh we had a lot of great dsi x space events uh with public nouns uh who are
also one of the sponsors uh with gitcoin you. There was the woman with three event,
which was magnificent.
And then also we had Let's Grow DAO,
Let's Grow Radio.
And yeah, now we're here.
So yeah, shout out to all of you

you know, familiar faces also here in the audience. So yeah, good to be here. Good to see you.
And yeah, I will tell you a little bit around about the current GG20 DSI round. You know,
where we are coming from, where we stand right now, and in which direction we are heading.
So, and then, you know, I also want to highlight some of the grantees that we have in our current
round, and also put some useful links up here on the Jamatron so that you have an easier life,
finding the right things at the right time. So, talking about the, you know, Desai round on Gitcoin.
So talking about the, you know, Desai round on Gitcoin.
So, you know, Desai, as we all might know,
is a Web3 ecosystem that is like not so old.
Actually, you know, a couple of years ago,
we saw the very first Desai round on Gitcoin
during Gitcoin Grants 15
was the first really impactful grand round on Gitcoin
with a focus on decentralized science, organized by a handful of organizations
who wanted to lift off this whole DeSci ecosystem in September 2022.
After this, unfortunately, we saw like an engagement drop.
So nobody really wanted to continue raising money raising funding onboarding sponsors managing all the co-marketing to make you know this a
continuous effort so that we can support the newcomers of our ecosystem to thrive
so and then last year there was the previous diesel lead at get coin his
name is Boris deakov who then decided to make it happen anyways and he
you know he reached out to a variety of people uh he found some people who who supported him in
marketing the round uh building up partnerships raising some funds from previous sponsors from
new sponsors uh and this this was actually the time where I got involved actively working with Boris on the last Gitcoin round in April last year during the Gitcoin beta grants.
So and back then, you know, we also made a steward election.
So a steward is a person that is on the operations side of life when it comes to reviewing grantees doing a certain level of due diligence and then finding a decision so if we have you know consensus between the five different
stewards that a project is eligible to be called a design project and uh to also be on the on the
round then it gets approved so and then you know last year we raised a total of 75k and distributed this to 65 design projects in total.
Unfortunately, we were on Ethereum mainnet, so the gas fees, so the money that people needed to pay for actually donating and transferring the money to grantees was horrendous, was like not cool.
Also because there were, you know, some meme coins who pumped and then gas fees were just not cool also because there were you know some mean coins who pumped and then
gas fees were just not cool back then but we learned all of it this is the reason why in this
design round on gitcoin we are deployed on arbitram one which was a good decision the gas fees are a
couple of cents so you can you know not only or edit, but actually donate with the minimum of guests that you can possibly pay, which is a good sign.
And yeah, this is like maybe, you know, where we are coming from and where we are right now.
We have for this GG20 round, you know, a team of like five operators who are managing the operations,
so marketing and fundraising and partnerships.
This is myself included, plus Maria behind DeSaya,
Lana Ulgic and Tomislav Mamic behind BlockSplit,
and Swift Evo behind DeSaya.
And over the last five and six months, we onboarded not only grantees,
but also partners and sponsors to this GG20 round.
And yeah, actually, we can say that it was a success
because we won partners such as Research Hub
and especially Jeffrey Khoury from Research Hub
who actively supported this matching pool
with also his own
personal funds because he wanted to give back uh after the success that we research have had
and then we also found more like-minded communities such as public nouns who then also
fit the matching pool that we have right now with the 25k in total and uh yeah besides that you know still from the last
round uh in the get to him better we had 15k left so it was uh really a blessing that we filled up
the the missing 10k and like a blink of an eye uh and now even have you know money available to make
the next diesel round on gitcon a reality so that at least the next round of operators, for example,
or stewards do not need to start from scratch,
but instead can build on top of the successes
that people had before.
And this is mainly why I'm doing all of this.
So to hand it over, to give newcomers an opportunity
to show the world what they what they got uh and yeah and
really support them you know i mean this is also the reason why why we are mainly focusing on on
super early stage projects uh and and also you know attach this actually in our due diligence
that for example if you have a multi-million dollar token sale or, you know, 20, 50 million in VC funding, that you are then, you know, most likely not the right fit, you know, for a grand round where it's about supporting, you know, early stage small projects.
actually can create a real impact when you want to create your first prototype you want to
incentivize your community using your product or uh doing you know research in a more open and
transparent and public manner um yes so so this is you know in a nutshell also uh you know what
we are looking for if you right now consider also applying for this this around uh we have a grant
consider also applying for this DSI round. We have a grantee portal on Notion that you can also find on our X
account, X page. Here also in the audience the DSI, the Gitcoin account, but I will also ping it up here on the
Jamatron in a second. Yeah, the application period, you know, started from the 16th of April
till the 7th of May.
So we have rolling applications so that we can capture, you know,
most of the people who are really willing to participate in this DCI round
because, you know, compared to like other grand rounds on Gitcoin,
they had like a fixed application period.
Most likely, you know, uh they had like a fixed application period most likely you know they
just said like a hard cut before the round officially starts uh but because we really
wanted to give you know all people access to the design grants on gitcoin we made this a rolling
application so again if you're considering applying uh to this design round you can you know
do this where whenever you want for sure you know the sooner you start uh the better results you
will get uh and right now we are like right in the middle of the design grants and we have six days
left but uh you know still if you if you do not or cannot uh apply with your own project to this diesel round, I mean, feel free to check out our grants program on grants.gitcoin.co under community rounds and explore the page and donate to the project that you believe are most impactful for the endless monologue but you know I see a
lot of familiar faces here and actually also one of our one of our DSAR grantees
that that is you know freshly accepted into the grand round is also here in our
audience shout out to you Durian we also We also have, you know, DSA Youth up here on stage, also one of
our grantees.

what different progress projects are making

which can be helpful
maybe if you do a token launch down the line
or looking for other larger scale investment opportunities
to really just kind of have that proof of contribution and progress
into your project's goals over time.

and to other potential donors that this project is not only competent but actually serious about
the mission so yeah just uh just a friendly reminder and maybe a secret tip here um
and one last thing that i wanted to share here, impact reporting.
We also talked about this.

And, you know, right now the meta for impact reporting on Gitcoin
is a direct integration to Karma Gap.
This is what I heard from a variety of people by now.
Karma Gap is a great tool where you can create your profile page
with your description of your project.
And then, you know, simply speaking, it's just like a roadmap,
a milestone roadmap, impact descriptions.
You know what you did over the course of, let's say, three months,
six months, a year, so that you have um so that you
have like a timeline uh of your most impactful wins uh with your project and then you know this
like directly integratable with like other tool providers as i mentioned such as gitcoin and in
the future also other web3 grant platforms so that you have a unified impact reporting mechanism also across all the other
platforms where you can raise money and donations for your project and again have the right signaling
that people see that you're actually serious about it and you're actually doing impactful work real
world stuff with the donations that you receive so yeah karma Karma Gap, super exciting, super interesting.
Probably we
will actively onboard the first grantees
to Karma Gap by
end of this round
because it is
a process to onboard people to submit
their milestones and describe this in the
best possible manner that people understand
the impact that they created.

Definitely I think you raised
a couple really key points in this last bit right now, just around how all of this is ultimately working towards having positive impact on the world.
through financial means as well as through other means, making these different collections,
sharing them out to our different communities or connections that we might have, and that
can make all the difference of making that connection that could then allow a project
to really move forward in a meaningful way. So even if you're not in a position right now to financially support
some of these different projects, there's lots of other ways to get involved with all of them
internally, as well as just sharing the progress and work that Desai is doing as an entire space benefits all of these projects as
well. So those are other ways to have meaningful impact beyond just supporting and donating to
these projects. True. Is it okay, Erin, if I maybe take one or two minutes i mean when do you want to close up the

I'll do one final shill for a project I have in this round, Muse Matrix, which is a DSCI
fellowship and incubator program helping to build out some infrastructure as well as onboarding
new talent, scientific and technical into the DSci ecosystem. We're really focused on
collaborations and building synergistic interoperable technologies for DSci. So
if I personally haven't connected with you before, I would love to do so and see what ways we can collaborate together to make science better for everyone.
DSI is really a great space right now because so many of us are oriented in this way of lifting each other up and collaborating rather than kind of cutthroat negative competition.
Competition is good too, but it's really great space to be a part of.
So if you aren't part of any DSI projects or organizations yet, take a look through
the DSI Gitcoin list and reach out to them, any of them that you find
interesting. Pretty much everyone in Desai that I've interacted with so far has been super friendly,
amazing people. So it's a great space to get involved with um yeah manu
yeah i i just need to share this anecdote before we uh truly close this space up um
because there is this thing called coopetition i mean you know even if you try to compete with others or others try to compete with you, you know, there's this, you know, quote that corporation beats competition, which is like partially true.
because worst case scenario is you try to compete at the wrong time with the wrong people,
even, you know, maybe with the wrong value proposition or the wrong products.
And then worst case scenario, you know, you lose focus and you lose track about your progress.
And then worst case scenario, both competitors lose.
So, and, you know, this is exactly what happened at the intersection of blockchain and space technologies.
And, you know, this is exactly what happened at the intersection of blockchain and space technologies.
I mean, this whole topic around decentralized space exploration, it's like not so new, honestly, because, you know, we had like the first wave of blockchain-enabled space companies or crypto projects who raised a significant amount of money to support space science and engineering. You know, even like, you know, back then, 2016, 2017, you know,
but the environment there was like super hostile.
It was like an attention war.
And then, you know, people tried to like steal ideas,
which is totally natural.
I mean, obviously people come to similar conclusions at a similar time
and build out, you know know similar tools for like similar
customer groups or whatever um you know but what happened back then was like not not okay that
people decided uh not to share their ideas anymore because they feared that again people try to steal
or blah but this is like one of the uh biggest founder mistakes that 90 percent of most of the time
first-time founders also do and if we want to onboard new scientists into design to web3
these are in most cases also first-time sciencepreneurs so which is like totally natural
also why this first wave of decentralized space projects failed 2016 to 2017.
The markets matured.
Then we had the first kind of success story with Moondao back in 2020, 2021,
with a token sale and a market cap of more than 200 million, which dropped,
but still a positive signal.
And now after that, you you know we see like uh projects
popping up on a daily basis we are monitoring more than 200 uh blockchain and space tech projects
right now which is like a very very positive sign if you compare like one year ago where we only
you know we had like 60 70 projects with the ogs uh and you know it's really it's truly heartwarming if I you know when I can
share this again now why core petitions better than just competing or just collaborating but
it's it's truly heartwarming for me to see like all these hardcore OGs who build out these fate
projects in 2016 2017 now you know stepping again, sharing the knowledge because they understood that
maybe our approach, you know, seven years ago was wrong to compete at the wrong time. And, you know,
and they are now like really putting their own resource, their own capital on the table
to support the newcomers of decentralized space. And yeah, I love the overlap of decentralized science in space.
I'm really, you know, also proud that we brought this topic up
into DSi over the last two, two and a half years that I'm doing.
Also the work with DeepVenture now with decentralized science in space.
And yeah, again, I'm, you know just just flashed every time when I
hear about a new project that I that I didn't know before you know just just using blockchain
infrastructure for space or using space to create benefits here on earth and then cross financing
this with crypto and yeah i just wanted to share this
anecdote so you know learning out of this uh don't don't cooperate don't uh don't compete uh but uh
do a healthy way of co-opetition so yeah this is like the the thing that I wanted to share also while, you know, seeing some of my space friends in here.

Well, this is my first time talking about my project.
I am a biology student and a year ago I started to
listen about this site and this time a friend told me to talk about my project project in Gipcoin. I am participating and I am really excited. I want to, I have like four
objectives right now. My first objective is create a space where I can help people to understand like the basics of science helping um this opening that we are trying to have with the
people of other knowledge or um that are not in science and second i want to focus on the
on this data you know the the problem that we have with data and this is like trying to fix it.
I want to connect with more data scientists and help all this thing that is happening with the bio data, you know, the interconnection.
you know the interconnection and also I want to I want to help with what I'm
doing with my studies I am working with issues I am I am working with molecular
because we we're here in my region we have a problem with with the water with
the contamination of water and there are a lot of fishes dying so we are trying
to to look up which microorganism is causing the deaths and we are trying to look for a solution.
And well, practically I want to create a space where we scientists and not scientists, we can
share, we can talk, we can discuss topics and we can share openly all the things that maybe we don't talk too much to the people that are in the community.

thought it was a good like calling for me to go into blockchain um yeah
i want to share a little bit about my my project i think we're not actually accepted into the
the dsci round um i know we chatted probably on linkedin um but if you'd like i can still
explain a little bit about what the project is hey go for it you're in all right sounds good
hey go for it you're in all right sounds good um cool yeah so my project is called space radar
and you can go visit our website at www.spaceradar.io
we are building a open access platform for tracking interplanetary travel in the solar system
starting with a focus on the Earth-Moon space,
which is where the vast majority of traffic is taking place in the next few years. I think
there's something like 400 missions expected in the next decade. So we're getting started
incrementally on keeping track of all that traffic. And what you can see on our website for now,
if you go on the homepage, you'll see like a list of all that traffic. And what you can see on our website for now, if you go on the
homepage, you'll see like a list of all the upcoming missions and recent past missions,
starting from the Russian probe that flew earlier, I think 2022. And in those upcoming missions,
you can click on them and see all the ship manifests, where the flight is going,
what it's carrying, who's operating it. And we'll also soon link a 3D visualization that shows
how the ship is getting to the moon. So sort of like a orbital trajectory,
which is still in development right now, but there's like a beta version of that
on the website. So that's the core feature that we're building.
But we also are doing some decentralized science activities.
And what we're doing there is called innovation competitions.
And basically, we're posing difficult, challenging questions to the general public and trying to get, you know,
cast a sort of a broader net in terms of getting people's opinions filtered up to executives in
the space industry. So we did a beta run of that in 2022. And the topic at that time was how can citizens promote sustainable use of lunar resources?
And we didn't really do much promotion for that.
Actually, I think we didn't share it on any social media, just in a few Slack channels.
And we actually got some awesome responses, including from professionals in the industry that we were a bit surprised that they took the time,
but they thought it was an important topic.
And yeah, you can find the winning essays there on the page.
Some of the winners actually donated the money to charity, which I thought was pretty cool.
So we gave some small financial prizes.
Now we're going to try to scale this up basically and do bigger competitions on a more frequent basis.
And one of the topic areas that's really close to heart for me is promoting peaceful use of space.
Because I see, you know, the world is becoming a very, very tense place.
And if we're going into space just to fight new wars, I think we're better off keeping both feet on the ground here.
Sometimes it feels like it's inevitable.
So the question is, what can citizens do to kind of help steer us into a better direction?
Obviously, defense and space are very tightly connected.
So, yeah, it would be utopic to think
that there won't be any defense spending in space, but what can we do to prevent wars, let's say?
So we want to basically create a competition where we get actionable solutions that are proposed from
the general public. And you can imagine there could be a really wide range of ideas that could
come out of that. And then we want to basically help put those
solutions into practice. So it could be, you know, business concepts, policy,
all sorts of different things. And besides this one on peaceful use of space,
we're also going to do another round on sustainability, sort of like getting crowdfunding ideas, crowdsourcing ideas, I mean, for regarding
making a holistic analysis of the sustainability of lunar missions. So from development of hardware,
testing, launch, all the way to operational moon and end of life. And many more, many more ideas
to come in the near future. So, so yeah, I think this round,
perhaps we didn't have a perfect fit with the usual criteria of the DSI, um, of the, yeah,
the DSI criteria. Um, but certainly hoping to, to get in on the next ones. And, um, yeah, in,
in any case, it's great to learn about all the projects here meet some people and looking forward to hearing more about everything that that
you all are working on thanks a lot happy to take any questions or comments
by the way
hey guys I hope it's fun if I if I jump jump in here um yeah i mean cool stuff that you're working on
uh you know really cool stuff um actually you know this this monitoring of of lunar missions
of space missions in general uh was yeah a pain point that i personally faced so you're definitely
solving uh my pain point here um nice uh and then peaceful use of space, also important. Actually, one of my
friends who is also like one of these DSpace OGs with LunarGistics is now with Singularity DAO
working on humanoid robots also in space. This is what we did with Sophiaverse,
but he actually is also working on PeaceDAO,
which is there to set up some guidelines,
some foundational frameworks.
I'm not sure you know how far they ran
over the last couple of weeks and months and so on.
But yeah, I would love to introduce you
to some of these people um and yeah then you know when it comes to your your innovation
competition this is like uh also actually how how i started out a couple of years ago because i
thought okay if we really want to accelerate scientific progress technological progress in
space how do we want to accomplish this?
But then the answer was, okay, we can build startups on scale, or we do the whole corporate innovation, open innovation track. So for me, it was just logical that we need a lot of like,
open engagement with normal citizens, bring them onto a platform where they can actually
not only utilize all
the data and all the things that are there in space to further increase the rate of publications,
of research, of the things that we need the most for a sustainable and peaceful future
in space, but to combine all these different frameworks to make it happen.
And then I learned about this whole design movement
and it was like kind of the perfect fit.
So don't, you know, don't play yourself down, Dorian,
while talking about space radar, because actually, you know,
most of these missions are also scientific missions
because, you know, we gather, we collect a lot of data, you know,
if we send a probe to the moon or the first data center on the lunar surface or whatever,
and this is then the starting point where other people can build on top of this.
So yeah, I think your project is highly aligned with design
just because space is a highly R&D intensive industry itself.

Yeah, maybe I can just quickly mention that we also have a few sort of R&D projects ourselves.
So I worked with the European Space Agency a few years back, and we've been collaborating on a project which is calculating the energy requirements of oxygen production on the moon.
Oxygen, because it's the propellant for combustion rockets.
So if we want to produce oxygen on the moon, we kind of need to understand the economics of it.
And the first big question is, is the energy requirements.
So we've been working on that for a few years uh to to calculate that and it should lead to an open access publication
hopefully in a few months um i think the paper i'm i'm gonna find out in the next like three
days whether the paper was accepted or not by the national academy of sciences uh if i look on the
the status right now of that manuscript it says pending recommendation so i'm really on the status right now of that manuscript, it says pending recommendation. So I'm really on the edge of my seat.
But yeah, anyways, that's an exciting project that we're working on.
And then we're also working on a project called Food Beyond Gravity, which is in a collaboration with CXBio.
And you guys may have seen CXBio and some of the other DSI projects.
But we're also on Gitcoin with CXbio uh with gg20 in a climate round
but for that project basically we're developing a closed loop uh payload concept which would
be producing food um starting with with metabolic waste which is a nice euphemism
waste like kitchen waste from from the lunar base and using
microbes to turn it into, into protein rich food. So yeah, some of the science stuff that we're
working on as well, but indeed we want to try to like, um, create incentives to get more people
involved. And we really want to try to get a lot of young people, like high school level,
also to be thinking about these things start contributing um and from i
should say from like a corporate perspective there's an additional incentive for us which
is that we can we can use this also to kind of like you know potentially um start to get an idea
of people that we could recruit um to come join the organization so there's an additional sort
of benefit for us to create these
open innovation competitions besides just trying to create public goods and create progress
yeah and i guess i'll reapply if you think that it is a good fit um i'll i'll reapply at the next

But, you know, this is also important for the rest of you
because we have these, you know, Zuzalu pop-up cities.
You know, they started also last year.
And, you know, they were all around the globe in Montenegro,
in Prospera, and in South America during this Vitalia pop-up city.
And now this year, you know, in July and August, we have the next pop-up city experiment.
A lot of, you know, pop-up cities will be in Zanzibar and in Georgia as well and I will actually be in Georgia because during Zuzalu Georgia we will or
yeah I will organize with with some some other cool people a dedicated space
track so there will be like different tracks different conferences you can you
know if you know a pop-up store you know you can think about a pop-up city as
you are you know you have like a store, you know, you can think about a pop-up city as you are, you know, you have like a special topic.
You're inviting all experts from all around the globe for this particular topic to, you know, join forces for a couple of weeks, a month or two to work together, to live together, to collaborate and innovate in a city and a land and a country of your choice. And this time it's Georgia and we will have a DSA track,
we'll have a D space track.
And yeah, luckily enough, I met the guy
who led the Consensus Space Project back then in 2018
when Consensus acquired, as one of the first crypto companies ever,
the IP behind Planetary Resources, a space company,
and then Consensus Space emerged out of it.
Unfortunately, it failed because of Corona
and some tight budgets and so on.
But, you know, the guy behind Consensus Space,
I met him in Denver and then he introduced me
to his old friend who also worked there.
And yeah, we actually knew each other already from DCI Berlin.
And now we are all in Georgia in end of July, beginning of August to unite most of the decentralized
space projects.
Again, to be there for a massive conference, do a lot of hackathons, a lot of open innovation.
And this is something where we can possibly also talk about.
Yeah, how you think about this
and what the best next step might be
if we want to make it happen also during Zuzalu Georgia.
So yeah, these were some of the alpha things
that I wanted to share.
