brother i was up until 4 45 this morning getting all my stuff prepared to start coding in the
bearish code event today and i had to start that at 8 a.m so yeah i got like not quite three hours
of broken sleep and i'm back at it i mean when you've got something to get done you got to do
what you got to do and it isn't amazing how much your body will just power through it's like once you're once you're
up and moving it's not so bad it's like okay i'll survive three hours of sleep isn't enough
for a healthy rest but it's enough to at least give your brain a chance to power down for a
little bit i needed it i could feel my brain starting to get sluggish my typing really slow
and you know wonky so i needed the reset but yeah man i don't know i think my body's getting used to
it because i'm coming up on like three months straight of this with a few days of like solid
sleep in her burst so let's i don't know but you it it allows you to be be sort of lucid
while you're working and just kind of get out of your own way you know so I
feel like I'm be a perfectionist and then when you realize like I'm kind of
just needlessly like harping on this one little detail moving on I'll tell you Moving on.
I'll tell you what, ChatGPT has been the best thing that's ever happened to my brain.
I feel the same way.
So, you know, I was a diehard, I'm not going to use AI when they were first talking about it.
Like, oh, it can do this and it can do that.
I'm like, I'll type for myself.
But when you really look at it like i i'll type for myself thank you but when you really look at it i don't type for myself autocorrect is helping me like 24 7 in fact autocorrect has been the silent
worker that hasn't been paid for years no no no employee of the month plaque no special parking
place no nothing just slaving away and then chat gGPT came in and was like, you know what?
You can rest now. Take a vacation. I'll handle it from here.
Yeah, I mean, it's really become like my best friend, my business.
It's hard to even explain how much it helps me out in everything that I'm doing.
I couldn't even begin to do what I'm working on right now if I hadn't have dove into chat GPT a couple weeks ago.
Right. It's like having a second and third, maybe even a fourth brain helping you out.
I know for me, especially getting into marketing and stuff for my own things and just like coming up with a real game plan on how I want to introduce my stuff to other people.
I have half a brain for it.
And, you know, I really sat down and I dedicated the time to it.
I could accomplish it on my own.
But you have to move so much faster in this present day.
And just being able to use ChatGPT helps with that so much.

And the more you use it, the more it gets to know you.
It just opens up a whole other level.
The validation I get from it when I throw new ideas out,
and it's a natural language,

So for those of you guys that don't know what Riley is about to do,
Topps Chrome is releasing the V v friends card on may 7th so he is going to
shop right now to speak with one of the owners and uh get a little bit more information on
how we can get that in our own local shops but man bob how are you feeling about this release
man as we get closer and closer there's so much
new information coming out and i just see this great story unfolding that gary has in his head
and that he's been working on the team with and uh i'm curious what what are you most focused on
right now with this tops chrome getting ready to come out i'm really the wrong person to ask
questions like that to be specific about the tops current release part of the problem is being only a month into cards it's it's new for
me i didn't you know i had i had some cards when i was a kid but it wasn't my thing it's never been
my thing and i think nfts really woke it up in me and then for whatever reason a month ago
it just really really caught on fire.
I'm excited because I recognize how accessible it's going to be now.
You know, $40 a pack.

Even though I recognize the opportunity there.
But for people to be able to get these cards in their hands, better cards, cheaper prices, it's insane.

it just hit me at a strange time. I've been grinding since January to help launch Abstract
and really push Bearish for it as a community. And that's really where I found my home.

had like 18 hours a day of hyper-focus going on. And then I have to squeeze this into my brain,
my headspace as well. And I'm trying to launch my own hoodie company. And I just conceptualized

guy's been in business for 35 plus years guys 35 plus years I mean when you walk in this card shop
there is nothing but Funko Pops he's got OG Disney he's got I mean I mean as much tops chrome as you can possibly buy every single
tops chrome I bought was from this father-son duo when they weren't available that's the next
car chop we're going to on Wednesday we're gonna go to them on Wednesday's show and he's has a very
very very close relationship with tops and so he's definitely
these two car chops were in the tops town hall with gary they heard gary speak about v friends
they never heard about v friends besides me talking to them like three four months ago now
it rang a bell when they had the tops town hall they're all for it they want to know how they can get their hands on it and so I want to really just showcase some light too there there is some mixed
feelings of oh the resale are we gonna be able to grab it I wanted to be more
accessible and so we're gonna hear about how much they're getting it from tops
they're gonna hear about how tops is allocating these stores and picking these stores
to carry it and the one thing to kind of focus on the the print run for these cards are a lot less
than a print one print run for say a star wars tops chrome or a garbage pill tops chrome so
we're gonna we're gonna really i'm hoping this i'm hoping he's
gonna be able to get it he's doing everything in his power to get it but like i said in the post
that i that i had pinned in the comments you can find a local card shop near you
i hope we got a little ambulance right here in california absolutely riley i wasn't trying to
change the subject or anything i was just trying to fill time for you brother um i think oh no oh no no no no no you're good we got tricky on we got tricky

And I try and just, I work from home.
So I try and stay on here and just share the love, right?

everybody involved. And, um, and in that process, like being on there and helping our peers,
I am able to see other things popping up in real time that I wasn't seeing before. And last week I saw Gary's thing about 45 minutes after he posted it.
And I missed it.
The NFTs this last weekend, I saw Gary's posts two minutes after he posted it because I was already on there.
I was looking for V friends who had posted things.
I was trying to share.
I was trying to help.
And and all of a sudden Gary's thing popped up and I was like, man, let me, let me go on
ahead and throw a comment on it. Let me go over to some other apps and send people over to X so
that they can comment on it. Let me share what I just found from Gary with the rest of the community
so that they can get in on it. And while I was away sharing that Gary had posted it,
Gary commented back and lined me up.
And when I came back to X,
I had 10 times more notifications than I'd ever had before.
And then it just became a chase of like trying to like and comment back to
people and stuff and just a smile and hurt on my face because I couldn't stop
smiling from it.
And the community reaching out, like I had a guy reach out from the community who got my home
address so that he could mail me stuff. He was like, Hey man, you got an NFT for V friends.
You didn't have one before. What's your address? I'm going to send you some stuff. Like that's,
that's, that's unheard. Like that's crazy to me. Like I'm a normie. I'm not a web three person.
So that's crazy to me that like strangers would do that even, um, like, oh man, but, uh, but that's
where the piranha comes from. And I'm all about a fish out of water. Now I'm a charismatic chameleon

And man, I just want to give you guys a chance to kind of really hear from an owner's perspective
who's been in business, who knows Topps Chrome, remembers Topps Chrome when it first launched
to now. And we're going to go over everything Topps chrome just leading up to now but mark how you
doing brother great honestly so glad to be here no thanks thank you so much for being here and
how long you been in business for bro we have been in business for over 35 years and I've been a
collector even well before that nice nice and what what would say, like what made you become that collector?
Well, when my brother and I were young, we collected sports cards.
And then when it was time for us, we were teenagers, it was time to get a job.
My father had always kind of had us do school stores and stuff when he was at summer school.
And so it kind of gave us that little bug to be a business. And so my brother and I, instead of going to work for somebody else, opened a small little shop, 200 square feet. That was over 35 years ago. And my brother retired from the store
and now my son Thomas took over his spot. And so it's a second generation business now.
We're going to go straight over to thomas uh thomas
um like you said is mark's son he's taking over the business and and kind of like growing up what
do you remember like card wise and even like being in the shop maybe as a kid to now like
how'd you get here it's a fun experience especially with being able to witness and see how much the
cards have changed from early on till now. I know with like Pokemon
and gaming and stuff that's grown and you get to see all the different shifts and changes of
playability and what people get into and what people don't. Especially with like sports cards
and stuff everybody's starting to get into like the digital stuff as well as like physical cards still um you have all different kinds of stuff that has blown people away from different hand-drawn
sketch cards autographs one of ones and be a part of getting autographs
and or being able to get the card signed to put them into sets and so forth.
Yeah.
What would you collect growing up?
What was your thing to collect?
Was it Pokemon?
Was it more sports baseball football?
Pokemon sports mainly is a mixture stuff. Yeah guys
So everyone new tuning in like this is gonna be awesome because we have we have like just
two legends here that really
Understand the card game and as we're going in the cardboard summer, I think
Having someone who was like that understands Pokemon can really kind of shine light on to like what's coming with like v friends tops chrome
Just us being like the Marvel Sesame Street Disney
and just us trying to really put light on to these characters who are
promoting like accountability like accountable and or accountable and eater or alert ape staying alert or patient panda one of my favorites or our logo the very very very very lucky black cat
so let's let's go back to mark and like what what do you remember 1993 when tops chrome first came
out when tops chrome first came out it was it was a game changer up until then it was just paper
cards and maybe they put out some foil cards but this was the first cards that actually felt like they were chrome.
Chrome and paper, right?
Chrome and paper, yeah.
And so what they did, for the chase cards, they had refractor cards.
And they were just parallel versions of the cards.
And then as time went on
they added the autograph cards and nowadays the big big thing in the the chrome cards is the
refractors that are numbered as low as one of one they could be numbered to 50 numbered to 100
and just the different color backgrounds different color designs that they add to these cards just
make them really exciting and vibrant.
And people get thrilled when they get something like this.
Even if it's not a really big name or a big character, if they get a card they know there's
only 10 of in existence, they're thrilled.
And it's just a neat thing to watch a family open a pack of cards or a box of cards and
just get so excited over something like this.
And how accessible is like Topps Chrome?
Like, would you say it's super accessible, super price point cheap compared to like other
kind of boxes, hobby boxes and even other companies?
Well, Topps, in referring to sports cards, Topps has the contract for baseball.
They have many different levels of
price point for the cards uh so tops chrome is going to be more expensive than say like their
flagship set tops but it's not going to be as much as say like um a bowman chrome or something like
that that's a much more expensive product um it's kind of a mid-grade uh price point gotcha and um
they really do a nice job with these cards.
Right.
And so how was the evolution from going from sports
and seeing almost seven years of just strictly sports?
And then what were card shop owners talking back then
when Pokemon first dropped and did that Topps Chrome collaboration?
So up until Pokemon came out and just blew up,
Topps was doing just basically sports cards, baseball, football, basketball.
And then Pokemon came in and got very, very popular.
So Topps put out a set of cards, kind of like their flagship set,
just the basic paper cards.
And it was so popular that they went
ahead and did a chops chrome version of that as well and just like with the sports cards they had
the refractor cards and they also added things like stickers and different things that were fun
for the kids and it basically bridged the two collections collectible areas into one people that
normally bought sports cards may may not have
already bought pokemon cards people that buy pokemon cards didn't necessarily buy sports cards
and this set brought the two together they um it brought people to say wow look at these cards
what else do they have like this yeah and it was a real neat um a real neat experience when those
cards came out man that's that's, did you see a lot of...
Was there any kind of naysayers about,
oh, is this cartoon brand coming into Topps Chrome and it's supposed to be sports?
No, it was one of those things.
It actually didn't take off super strong at the beginning.
Nowadays, it's gold if you find it.
I don't even think they made a whole you find it um i don't even think
they made a whole lot of it because i don't think as many people ordered it as they were expecting
um again people that bought pokemon cards didn't necessarily buy sports cards so a sports card
dealer like us would be like well are they gonna buy something like this that you can't play the
game with it you can't get the you know the foil Charizard like they wanted in the Pokemon cards.
But then Topps did.
They put in the Refractor cards.
Of course, Charizard was the most popular card in the set.
What's that card going for now?
You know, I haven't looked it up in quite a while.
I'll have my son check that and see.
I know just the basic Charizard was like $40 recently,
just for the basic Chrome Charizard card.
But the Refractor, I know, is quite a bit more. Yeah, I think, too. basic charizard was like 40 bucks recently just for the basic chrome uh charizard card but the
refractor i know is quite a bit more yeah i think too and of course if it's graded that's a entirely
different animal so that's like the excitement too is like like that's what i've been thinking
like imagine we're in 2000 and pokemon not have been pokemon what it is now but v friends being
so new four years into it over 20 plus collaborations with snoop dog uno mattel zero
cool and so many more now tops chrome i think that um it's like it's going to be really interesting
to see like what character is going to be that charizard whether it's going to be like the
very very very lucky black cat the the logo or if it's going to be like the gracious grizzly bear
or who knows like i think it's right
what's the ninja card that came out for the national or something notorious ninja yeah
i'm glad you said that yeah that one there i mean i i was blown away when i saw that yeah even those
resale prices after the fact people were getting in for five ten bucks a pack or even some for free
there uh-huh this in this going in the line and like, oh, I have 10 bucks for this. And then they're getting flipped on eBay for like $150.
Wow.
It's crazy.
It's super wild to see the demand.
And like you said, it's a fairly new property.
You know, not as many people know about it.
And the fact that it's getting so big of a demand right off the get-go is really exciting about it.
I know Topps, we went, we do town halls every month,
and they tell us what's coming up for new products,
and they seem very behind it, very excited about it.
And I guess they just signed a long-term deal with the company.
Yeah, three years.
Yeah.
So what are you looking forward to most about VFriends, Topps, Chrome?
And just like, are you getting that Pokemon vibe from back in the day coming?
Like, where do you see VFriends headed?
Well, the thing that I think it's a perfect time for them to be coming out is the fact
that Pokemon is so, so popular and you can't find this stuff.
It is very, very difficult to have.
I mean, people come into the shop.
What Pokemon do you have?
And when we do get Pokemon, we have to limit it because there's so little of it.
Right now is the absolute perfect time for a new property like this to come in
because when people come in and ask for Pokemon cards,
you know, it's a gateway to this new product.
And if it takes off the way that Pokemon has in other,
you know,ugioh and
some of these other um non-sports sets this is the ground floor this is where it's starting
and i think people are going to be very excited that they had an opportunity to get these
no that's awesome that's awesome and like we have a lot of new people like listening in right now
and then even later on like five hours from now a week from now, like how could someone who's like a rookie to calling card shops or even a rookie to like getting a product that they want?
Like I know tops does pick they allocate they allocate amongst the stores, but like how could it help the process of like maybe getting a card shop interested in VFriends, something that's so new?
like maybe getting a card shop interested in vFriends, something that's so new.
What piece of advice can you give to them if they're calling their card shops now on tops.com slash stores?
What can they say to the owners?
Well, if there's a product that's coming out that I do not know anything about,
I probably am not going to carry it until I start hearing about it.
If myself as a card shop owner starts getting calls,
do you have VFriends? Do you have VFriends? This is something I'm going to be looking into
and bringing into my store. So calling the stores, contacting Tops and saying that you're very
excited about this product, you want to know where to purchase it. That is the way to get more stores
to be able to carry it or even to want to carry it because they
may not even know about it this might be something that there's a big market for in our area that we
may have missed if we hadn't done the research if tops hadn't told us about it in their town hall
meeting and so forth oh nice and i want to jump over to sapphire now. Okay. So all of our gift code holders, there's 555 gift code holders.
Okay.
And they were able, so they own a digital file of the gift code.
They were able to really use that and get a Sapphire box.
Some people have three or four gift codes.
Some people have eight gift codes.
Some people have one.
And so they were able to receive a holder benefit of holding
like a vfriends nft and then vfriends uh series one this was it was zero cool uh-huh was gary v's
hand-drawn sketches then he evolved to tcg v friends series two and then now we're here
with tops chrome so we talked tops chrome but let's talk the magnitude of Sapphire Edition. Okay.
And so, like, what backstory, like, do you remember when it came out?
And, like, what's the difference between Sapphire and Chrome? So if it's the same as past sports cards,
the Sapphire is typically something that is only available on the Topps website.
You have to be either you're a member of the Topps,
there's a Topps thing that you can be a member of,
which gives you first chance at things like this,
or if there's some left at the end, then they put it on their website.
Typically, that's not something that we could get here in the store.
They don't offer it to us. That's something that they do there on their website.
Got it.
And what it is, it's basically a they do there on their website got it and what it is it's
basically a parallel version of the tops chrome so like let's say the tops chrome has a gray border
to it and refractors are all different colors or whatnot depending on the the numbering uh sapphire
of course are blue and every card right every card in the box looks like that yeah typically
every card for the way that
the sapphire cards work typically all have the design border of it looks like a diamond
and you'll have typically per box you'll have a certain amount of parallels being numbered
as high as 99 down to one of ones and things of that sort usually inside of us what's the highest
like sapphire what's like was it like f1 like what's
what's a sapphire that dropped in the past like five years that was just like wow that skyrocketed
probably one of the bowman sets i would guess it's either bowman or probably the f1 that was
probably the big one yeah it was probably the biggest thing yeah man i know we got we got a
lot of people up here in the community that i seen steven uh you you
sent out a comment but steven you're up here right now you're over in hawaii aloha what what
question do you have for our brother martin aloha uh yeah so some of the the smaller shops over here
we only have a handful of card shops here and it seems like it's pretty consistent uh but just
wanted to ask since uh you're a shop owner um what your allocation was for tops as far as the Chrome,
the VFrance Chrome.
At this point, they have not offered us any.

They talked about it at the town hall
and got us all excited about it.
They said that the allocations were going to drop on
the 10th um we never saw them now that doesn't mean we're not going to get them that also doesn't
mean that maybe the first print run um or the first series is a shorter uh printing and then
they're going to do like maybe the second printing they'll offer offer more to the shops but yeah we we at this point have not been offered any of
these cards and i'm hoping that um you know talking with you guys about this that people in this area
are going to hear this and you know want the product and maybe tops will offer them to us but
at this point i don't have any allocation for it yeah let's tag gary guys tag gary in the comments guys but back to you steven
you guys are a tops direct distributor correct we are we've been with tops for 35 years yeah and
just talking with the shop owners out here and i guess just to see if it's regular business practice
if you guys were to get an allocation um what's the price point you guys are usually measuring off of when
you guys put it on the shelf?
You know, that ranges depending on what it is.
If it's a normal product, we include sales tax in our price here.
So we add that on top of what it is.
But there's really no set um pattern for that i mean if something is you
know skyrocketing well i'll give you a really good example the new pokemon that came out and um
the um etb boxes they retail at 50 a box plus tax 59.99 and um and they were selling online when they when we
got them that day they were selling them for like 120 yes and we put them out on the shelf limit one
per person for was it 79.99 tax included yeah so just a little bit more than srp but not we don't
we don't play the games with um you know
it's going to be a 200 pokemon box so that's what i'm gonna put it out for um if if we're going to
have something like that where it's really really limited the last set we had to do we did a drawing
everybody that came in that wanted to drew a ticket and if they got the ticket with our name
on the back they were able to get it at whatever price point and it was certainly less than um it was more than srp but not by much okay that's great intel because yeah
a lot of the shops owners they they're they mentioned that they based it off of a lot of
the online retailers um your pull out cards and your dave and adams and right now those price points are going about 2 to 25 um coming out
on ebay and stuff too so i think that's kind of the expectation that that's going to be the price
point once it hits the stores but it's kind of i guess nice to know that uh you guys kind of have
some flexibility obviously based off of your profits and stuff you guys need to take so exactly
based off of your profits and stuff you guys need to take.

about the tops because uh i think before i started getting into the VFriends Series 2 cards,
I was collecting a lot of the tops for Pokemon.
And it's pretty cool to kind of see this overlap of tops into VFriends because I didn't um, uh, I don't, I'm, I didn't catch, uh, their names,
the, the owners of the shop. Um, but I appreciate the, the little history, um, and the insight,
just because, uh, I think when all of this came out, it was a little before my time or I was
barely being born. Um, I'm 29 right now. So, so to, to hear all of this you know conversations it's it really puts things
into perspective um and yeah like it was right right on the dot with the what the car shop owners
were saying were just uh you know the tops for pokemon and i i don't see a heavy demand, but there are limited like refractors and they are hard to get.
So, yeah.
And of course, I got the dialed in dog as a PFP now.

That's a funny story because I'm just going to be real with it.
I was at Del Taco with my brothers.
We were in the drive-thru and we were getting something to eat.
And I just saw, for some reason, I had just commented on Ren's post where he was like, man, my phone's heating up.
There's so much stuff, notifications coming in from Gary.
And I'm like, dang, I'm getting all these notifications too from gary and i was just looking at all these notifications that he was giving out
um series two and so i'm like man should i should i should i shoot my shot i was like should i shoot
my shot i'm in the drive-thru right now um they were asking me what i wanted to order i'm like
can i get a minute please i'm trying to i'm trying to figure something out here um and so i i so i yeah in the quickness i shot my shot
and i was like you know what bros give me a minute and let me just uh do this real quick and i sent
it and typically with this kind of stuff i'm like you know uh at least you know at least do it don't
don't let it be something that you regret on.
And, yeah, and then five minutes later, he was like, hey, you're dialed in.
Check your wallet.
And I was like, no.
But what's funny is, and G's on it, you know,
like this just gave me that reassurance that he's in the the dirt um what would you say more is what are you
looking forward to mostly about tops chrome like obviously you love the digital side of the
collectibles of v friends but leading up to the i mean you you collected pokemon tops chrome like
what are you most excited for about v friends and we'll go to tech honestly if i'm being honest my biggest thing is i think the
well i was at first hoping for the price point just to get into vFriends um cards just given the
series two you know and the and the price points for that um i'm honestly looking forward to the
inserts like the manga the sketch cards um i i. I think after seeing, and this just,
it hit home for me in my heart,
seeing the community being able to contribute
to the Top Scrum project and just seeing the backstories,
like Ryan Turner's card about his love from a dad,
that hit me.
And I'm like, man, think uh it transcended my way of thinking about
refriends and it just being solely about the cards and being about the backstory now um and yeah i
know there was a legendary love by jeremy and corso like all these different things so yeah for
me i'd have to say the inserts right now. Right?
No, honestly, the Creepy Steve, the Garbage Pail Kid artist,
that's going to be a really cool and fun one.
Even Mike J.Y., the very, very, very lucky black cat.
That one's super fire.
We got Courage with the Brave Bison, I'm assuming,
and then we got To the Moon.
They're a very big online breaker. And
they just got a huge distribution deal with Orange Cat Games with pudgy vibes. But let's go
over to Tech and then Sailor right now. And guys, everyone tuning in, we are at Bases Loaded Card
Shop, a Topps Direct store for over 35 years. So I want to pass it straight to tech and then straight to sailor
thank you so my question again is going to be a little bit more tournament related so to my
understanding of what i was hearing more awareness of v friends have to happen at town hall meetings
and stuff like that to expand within the market. So I was going to ask
in terms of tournaments, such as like how, um, tops does with like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh,
what are some things we in the community can do to market it more in terms of the card game?
Like, are there specific events that we should make local tournaments around within the community or possibly make even live streams in our own events to market it to make us more aware?
Exactly.
So with these cards, a lot of people may not know the VFriends characters.
So the best way to do it is put it
out on your social media you know look what i got check out these cards um we're having such a blast
with it and the cool thing about the v friends is that they they do teach um you know good things
and and be good to each other and and do all that type of stuff, being friendly and so forth. So it's good family-friendly type stuff as well.
And just let your friends know about it.
It's not really based around a game like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh is,
so there won't be tournaments and stuff, at least at this point.
Now, if they come up with a deal with...
So like the TCG side.
We'll have tournaments on that side.
Okay.
But, like, as this drop, you're correct, though.
Yeah.
This is solely collectability.
These will be, like, regular collector cards.
But they said they are going to be doing the TCG side,
and at that time they'll probably have tournaments and stuff like that,
I would imagine.
Yeah, we got a couple tournaments coming up TCG-wise.
But, no, great question. I would say, say to tech just like uh mark was saying earlier like give those car chops a call and even like letting your friends know about it and then having your friends
call them and if you guys know you're you're really going to collect them i think just building
that relationship with with your car chops and just kind of letting them know but let's get let's

that um thank you yeah it's our pleasure of course of course um my question so you've been in the
game for a while so when something like this comes out and it's new and it's it's it's clearly going
to sell out and secondary market 2 3x what we're selling it for um when they say like the people of v friends obviously they're not divulging
a lot so and again it's total speculation but um in your mind like when something like that happens
and the ip says they have a quote-unquote multi-year deal in place would you think that
that means that next time around the allocation is going to be much like much larger
to 3x the amount of cards they're making now on next year's and the following years if that
continues where like it can permeate and like the tech down here is saying he wants a good tcg
and if these cards permeate then a good tcg could follow you know, like that kind of a thing. So I'm just kind
of curious on your thoughts on that, like how this seems to be going to fly off everybody's
shelves instantly from having dealt with tops and stuff. Do you think that that means we can expect
a larger production in the next series or two? I would think that they would ramp up production some.
I don't think they're going to go from short printing it to flooding the market
because I have seen that in the past too.
And then you basically kill a product.
At that point, the company is trying to make a buck.
They just put out more and more and more.
They're sitting everywhere and nobody wants it. And it kind of brings an end to the to the property
now I don't foresee that happening tops which is owned by fanatics is a huge
company and they just signed a multi-year deal with them so I don't
foresee them doing something that's gonna hurt that they they just want to
help the property help the product so that it will do better, you
know, as time goes on.
But again, if they make X amount of product and sells out instantly and everybody's clamoring
for more, as a company like that, they're most definitely going to put more out there
because, you know, it's all supply and demand.
And if there's a demand, they're going to want to take care of their customers.
Now, that being said, they can't over inflate it because then cards that are serial numbered, cards that have autographs, that's a finite number.
They only have so much of that stuff they could do.
Now, what they might end up doing is doing multiple series per year or something where they
may not print, you know, they may not double the print run, but they might put out two sets,
bringing more product out on the market, but not flooding the market. So there's a lot of ways
that the company can bring more product onto the market without actually flooding the market.

Yeah. So this question is slightly off the mark, but it is line with uh you guys in your shop um what what has been
the biggest moment or or the the fondest memory that you have of somebody opening you know a pack
and getting that that rare card so we have had some amazing cards pulled um in the 35 years we've been in business the one
that really comes to mind and the reason it comes to mind because it was probably
the very very first time we had one of these things pulled and it was back in
the 90s and the upper deck base upper deck company put out a set of football
cards and it was one of the first times they had one of one cards and it was a
one of one nfl logo off of emmett smith's jersey and this customer this customer got it
uh he was so excited so thrilled we talking to other customers showing them pictures of the cards everybody got so excited i remember
the customer had sent a article into or a letter into the beckett sports card publication and they
even had a picture of him and my brother uh holding the card and um and it was just i think
being that it was the very first time we'd ever actually seen and held a one-of-one card
it was like oh my gosh this was just amazing and the customer was beside himself and that's what's
so cool about it is granted the card was valuable but the excitement and the joy that the customer
got from pulling that card I mean I've had you, families come in and a kid will pull a card of his favorite
player and it's not an expensive card. It's, you know, maybe a $2 base card and the kid is
thrilled because maybe he met him at a baseball game or it's just his favorite player. And the
joy that comes from seeing this and being a part of, you know, the card market, and we've been
doing this for 35 years.
So I have seen people do this
and now they're bringing their kids in and buying cards.
And it just makes me feel so good
to know that this industry, this market,
basically our hobby, which is our job,
is bringing so much joy to so many people.

i know when you when you own a local business like that you you get a lot of experiences and
you have a lot of stories so i was just curious about uh what yours was but um we did have
elizabeth with her hand raised so i if she still has a question i I'd love to hear it. Yeah, real quick, though, real quick. I think, too, I mean, when I went, when I was, I like look up, I think, last week who the owner of Pokemon was.
And even there was like Topps Chrome Metazoo I had bought, I think, four, five months ago.
And so I didn't even know of.
So, like, my question is, like, like we obviously know gary here in this space right
now but that like there's gonna be a lot of people that's gonna see v friends on the shelf
they're gonna see the bright colors the amazing box the amazing branding um and i think it's
gonna happen to like how with me with with metazoo where i didn't know the owner of metazoo
people are gonna like get introduced to v friends by coming in bases loaded like here and like wow
like what's that product and then they can do their research and like oh it's
Gary V and so I think
do you think we're going to see a lot of people that don't know of
Gary that are going to get on
boarded, is there going to be like a mass
adoption do you think? Possibly

so you know it's one of
those things that it's not like
we met the
creators of Funko a few years back at WonderCon.

So, very good question. It depends on the situation. Now, in the case of this set,

like I mentioned earlier, we have not been given an allocation for it. So, I would not take any
pre-orders or anything on it because I don't know how many I have coming in, if they're even going
to offer us any of it. So, most shops around cannot do a pre-order or something to that effect if they don't know for 100%
they've got the product coming in. In the case of us, if I know I have a product coming in and I
know how much product I have, then that's something I can do. For example, the new Pokemon
that's been coming out, we'll order 100 boxes and we'll get just you know a very minor
amount of that we used to be able to pre-sell it when we ordered 25 and got 25 in stock now you
order 100 and you get 10 you really can't do that because you don't know what the distributors are
going to offer you so in the case of that store what i would do is just keep asking him um have
they come in have you heard anything about it? Eventually, if he is going to
get them in, they might take a list. Like for us, I'll take down a person's name and number and call
them when it comes in. But I wouldn't be able to do a pre-order thing until I know for certain that

Do you think that that's something that will help play a role?
And do you get a lot of, like, is it mostly young boys?
Or, like, do you get, like, a good vibe of girls in there for Pokemon and stuff as well

Well, if you're talking like for Pokemon,
because we haven't had this product in as of yet,
we get boys and girls that come in for it.
I mean, it's not...
Like with sports cards, it's more boys than girls,
but we do have a lot of girls that come in.
Some are parents where the kids are you know really into sports some are
kids that just love sports I mean you know we have softball leagues and stuff like that here
where they get so excited and it branches into baseball and watching sports on tv and talking
sports with your dad and and your parents and your grandparents and stuff um
so the uh the non-sport sometimes they do try to make it more colorful to attract more people
i don't know do you know about if that has anything to do with packaging or
or marketing or anything what was the question one more time so sorry he said that the the
it seems to be aimed more towards little girls.
I'm sorry.
I don't want to say that it's more towards little girls,
but they said that they kept young girls in mind when they made the packaging.
When they chose the characters to put on the cover,
they chose ones that were representative of the female to try and help with the girls.

We got to do those to every card shop we can find.
Your live interview, introduce them to their ex-community
and make sure they get the full allocation.
And I think there was somebody who was actually asking about
if there's like a list that they can get on and stuff like that.
Like what you should do is just straight up,
like tell the store owners that you're willing to claim
or prepay for, you know, a portion of the allocation, whatever,
you know, like say I'm willing to buy, you know, up to five or whatever, whatever it is. You just, you can try to, I would try to say like,
place an order, like if you can. And like, I mean, the owner was, the one owner was telling us that
they might not want to do that if they don't know if they for sure they can get it,
but you know, worst case, they just give you a refund, right? So I would try to prepay and lock it down.
You know, you might get lucky and find a place that is like,
will part with their entire allocation or something like that, you know?
Because they didn't have a bunch of people already, you know, hound them for it.
So who knows?
But yeah, I see.
That actually sounds like a really good idea.
That's what I would do, do man i'd lock it down if i had like some place to like store some physical cards right now you know i would just
you just got to get them slabbed that's all get them graded and slabbed immediately that's the
that's probably the best thing to do especially because it's like the first iteration like it
does it almost doesn't even matter what you pull like first
like one of three years of
Collaborations with tops crown like there's gonna be more and the og ones are always gonna be you know valued a little bit more

Bring them on the bridge. And we'll talk to them. And we'll show them how the community reacts. I think that's the biggest thing. Like he said is getting these shops. I mean, calling these shops, like posting those, those pieces of content and just, um, if they can like really like when he was seeing, like I put it on mute a couple times and like it was just an
awe of how much love you guys were showing in the chat like how live this community is and so i think
what he said this is coming from a car shop owner too if we just give these car shop owners a call
and we tell our friends locally about vfriends top scrum this is what's going to bring the
excitement up it's what I've been
doing I have all my friends in Fresno calling them they're like what is going on right now
I got my brother calling them I got my dad I even have my grandma call them like hey grandma can
you call this card shop and just ask real quick if they have like vFriends um Top Scrum and then
boom I'm calling like five minutes later so it's like you guys it's gonna
tap into that gary gary v mode you know that's so good dude and and anyone else i mean you don't
have to be talking by yourself with them like you could literally put them on the stage like we'll
talk to them you know like yeah we'll bring that heat the whole community you'll like pump them up
you don't even have to make the conversation yourself just be like hey you got it you got to meet these people over here at the tops chrome like
they got some questions for you you know all you got to do is lay a little bit of
groundwork and then we can we can kind of take over for you
that was a any observation Steven how did that go no well said tricky
Steven how'd you like being able to talk to a car shop owner on the bridge should we
do more of it what are your thoughts oh yeah i mean it's always good to get perspective um i mean
obviously i would love maybe a shop owner that was was actually getting it so we can talk numbers
and stuff if they were open to talking but i mean mean, that's really, obviously from an owner's perspective, it was great to, to know, you know,
not every tops direct is actually getting allocation,
which was kind of mind blowing, you know, like that's where, you know,
the ones that you do find you definitely want to build that relationship with
you definitely want to build that relationship with them and you know i'd be i'd be interested
them. And, you know, I'd be,
to know why certain shops didn't get it or or maybe like like they just not have that conversation
with them yet you know like maybe they just don't know what the allocation is because they haven't
like they haven't inquired all the way you know in some scenarios yeah I think too I think we're so early I think we're
so early to where like these little small interactions are gonna be what's needed for
the next like the next drop with Topps Chrome and I think like he said to this time it being
a shorter print run for the whole Topps Chrome release and like later on there might be more so i think
maybe they're allocating to i and i heard this from another shop owner too and we can get we're
gonna hear from him on we're gonna hear from him on wednesday i'm going to him on wednesday
and he has a very big card shop and so he was saying it normally depends on how much they buy so like say tops
launched a new product last year right like they're going to all their stores that bought
and spent the most money first to kind of show like seniority right and so that's why he's like
he thinks yeah yeah he might he thinks he might be getting it. Cause they have 35 years of, of doing business together.
But I think it just depends on how much product they're buying too, within the past couple
of years, I think is, is really what's going to come down to it.
Like there might be a shop that might sell a ton more than in here in Fresno.
Right?
Like I'm, I think I've seen one person out in town where
there
in Fresno besides that person my friends I don't like it's gonna really I'm gonna
be driving it up and I'm just gonna be buying cases from them and so it's it's
cool to even like start those connections right now so where if they do get
allocated when they do find out then they're like oh i know steve or i know riley wants that now
if we can't sell that too then now these card shops can enter the community on x or
i think it's going to be huge because if they get it and say majority of us nearby don't get it,
I'm going to make sure they set up a website.
They're very good people.
Like they said too, they've done raffles.
They want to make sure people can get it close to MSRP price.
That's going to be real big.
That was a key point to that
you mentioned as far as just like um what they're going to put it on the shelf for you know like
we're kind of the end of the assumption uh just because it's selling on ebay for 250 a box right
now and like even the the big wholesalers are selling it at 240 a box uh we're kind of under
that assumption that that's what the shops are going to put selling at a 240 a box. We're kind of under that assumption that that's
what the shops are going to put it at, because why would they discount themselves? But to know,
it's kind of up to the shop owners. I mean, like the shop owners I would talk to,
they for a fact didn't get it at series one pricing, right? so that kind of gives you that window of 100 to 250 um and then
just understanding you know top's gonna to make their profit so you can probably put the wholesale
price at about 150 and just thinking as a shop owner like okay well if you're only getting
allocated a case how much do you need to retail markup that to actually make it worth your while
yeah or even
going in half with these some of these owners too when they get that like giving them your contact
too and be like oh oh man like if you i'll go half with you if you want to if you're kind of iffy
about buying product you don't know too much like that's why i told this guy but this guy is ready
to buy buy it all he's like he's he's ready he's hyped up he lived the the pokemon launch he
he lived when tops chrome first came out and it's just i think getting getting these owners
the feeling of excitement that we're feeling is the key right now it's the key and just like on
wednesday another card shop here on the bridge next episode of the chrome bridge we're going to be in the card bar and it's another huge tops direct store so
it's like I went to two of the stores that it's either there's either going to be bases loaded
or the card bar here in Fresno and if anybody else to like plan a day you guys want to go to
a card shop or call them right now and be like yo yo, can I come in this day? I'm going to, we have a huge community space to get to know the community and let's bring
their expertise to, I think different stories,
different journeys is going to be huge.
I think it's good to hear from like some of the bigger, bigger card shops,
like, you know,
kind of the regional card shops that like everybody kind of travels to,
to kind of, because obviously we know blowout cards and Dave and Adam's got a huge allocation,
right? So I'd be interested with the local card shops as far as like maybe the distributors of
regionals card shops, like what their allocation was if they were open to sharing that.
Because then we kind of get that if they only got five to ten cases and the smaller shops
only got one, you know, then that kind of gives you an idea of the expectations.
And then obviously supply and demand kind of give you an idea of what the price point
could be.
So if somebody's in a huge in a huge card city, but go ahead.
So I've, uh, first off shout out Riley for getting in the goddamn car and driving all the way over
there and making that happen. And right now, shout out you Riley legend legend kudos to you for
making that happen. What space does that happen in where
you're traveling on the road road trip spaces on x only happening on the chrome bridge um
but uh i've been calling there's a lot there's like 15 shops for tops in phoenix and there's
a lot of people here there's biceps there's bro fit so i'm not i'm not attacking all the shops
i'm giving people their turf i'm only contacting the three closest to me out on my outskirts
and from i mean i've not been around v friends long but i'm a chatter you guys are aware
so i'm chatting real quick go ahead if i can encourage you i would say hit the even hit the
card shops that you think that they already hit.
Because what I've heard from the card shops is the more people call in, the more it's on their radar.
And if they do get a certain amount of allocation, the more interest is going to drive that number.
I will say this. I will say this. I initially called everybody. 90% of the shops
in Phoenix, the owners were fully aware of who Gary Varnacek was. And they're like, yeah,
he helped hype me up and start my business. These are people who were mostly in tapped.
There were some that weren't, and I was like, well, you should get it. from from the three that i've been doing follow-up calls with the way that
they've explained it to me is they get emails from tops and they get little things that say hey
here's some new stuff that's coming out check these boxes if you want it do you want a little
bit do you want some do you want a lot? And where are your caps at at your
shop? Like, do we send you $50,000 worth of this or do we send you 5,000 or do we send you 1,000
type of thing? So they kind of get a pick on that. And then they just, if they don't want to put in
their name and the hat on VFriends, they don't. So call your shops for sure so that they could
throw their names in those hats at the early.
And when they got those early April order forms or whatever, at this point, the orders have been put in.
So if your shop is getting it, they put in for their allocation.
And based on how big their shop is and how gung ho they are, would determine that allocation from the shops I've been talking to that.
They're the three top shops. That been talking to that they're the three
top shops that's kind of how they say the hierarchy of it works so so i'm guessing that the dave shop
online put in like hey we want it we want it all give us as much as you'll give us because we're
selling online and we know it's going to fly quick whereas the shop in fresno might put in for the
small allocation for two cases you know what I
mean because they don't want to buy they don't have the warehouse space for a massive amount or
something so that kind of a thing but that's kind of what I garnered from the few shops that I've
been like getting in a little deeper with and um I've got to make some rounds they told me to call
them the last week of April and they'll know if they're getting it or not. And they'll, they'll set aside what I've asked for. So, um, so I've kind of got my lines in the
water and have been following up and learning what I can for future releases and to try and
share where I can. But, um, but yeah, hopefully, hopefully everybody's tapped into their top
shops and you know where to go and you get there before the
other card shop who's not tops does you know what i mean because if the the tony's card shop who
doesn't have tops allocation but knows gary gets there before you he's going to clean them out and
list it at ebay prices at minimum you know what i mean so that's like that's who we need to be to
these shops guys like let's get it on the whatnot streams for the community and not in those secondary card shops
yeah i think that's a good point but i think uh hey sailor real quick sailor real quick sailor
thank you so much for those words though bro i'm all about bringing the value and i'm currently at
whole foods right now getting some food but back to you back to you of course yeah i was just talking about just allocation and and the shops over here they
only got one case right so they've already kind of communicated that they're going to limit it
to only one person or one per person so uh yeah so somebody to kind of swoop in and buy it all out, I think it's going to be hard for anybody.
But, I mean, hopefully all shops kind of play that.
But, I mean, otherwise I'd be cleaning them out.
Yeah, I was telling them about the whatnot, too.
So, the next whatnot show, you're going to have these card shop owners watch Gary.
So, I'm going to have these card shop owners watch Gary and I think seeing Gary on Whatnot,
like talking about these characters and doing these breaks is going to open up a lot of eyes too.
So, I just sent this guy the link to Whatnot and he's super hyped up. I mean, they had over,
I think, 250 to 350 Funko Pops, which was absolutely wild.
So I'm excited to go in there and talk Funkos next.
Why are they about to 10x this shop over here?
And they're going to give him like a 5% stake or something.
Watch it happen, man.
I think that May 7th stream is going to be very telling, too.
Like, obviously, there's a lot of hype of the launch.
And I think there's a lot of, obviously, again, have the Gary factor in there.
So if, I mean, if the blaster box packs are going for like $25, $30 a pack, I mean, and you're getting, what, eight in a pack? That's a $250 box.
So then that kind of sets the price point for people to want to buy boxes at $50
and knowing that, you know, they can 4X their investment.
But I don't know.
We'll still kind of see how May 7th plays out.
Just exciting times for sure, though. though the expectation to see what it looks like
i i know um just just from hearing that interview and and hearing how he was like oh okay they're
actually in here and acting about that um you make a very good point of just showing them what what not is capable of doing
because i'm sure a lot of these smaller shops they might think like oh yeah like i've heard of
whatnot i don't really want to take my time to to set that up in my own shop but when they see like
how active the community actually is on whatnot they'll probably
second guess why they haven't been doing it sooner
chum there's no reason every single card shop in the country shouldn't be doing like an after
hours whatnot like we close this store at nine and at 9 30 we start an hour long whatnot like
like every shop you know what i mean like that
should be a thing by default is in my mind you know and and i've been into cards for 20 plus
years and a lot of card shops in a lot of states across the country as we moved around and shit
but um but yeah i was just talking to him about that say i was just talking to him about that i
was like there's a lot of product you can get off your shelf.
And even when VFriends Chrome drops too, you're going to have a huge, huge, huge community
that might not be in Fresno because, I mean, he's looking at it right now.
And then the guy that's singing with the VFriends hoodie.
So like, I was like, if you get this product and some cities don't, you're going to have
a chance to tap into a huge
market globally, not just locally. I think Gary made that point when I was on Tea with Gary V.
Tea with Gary V, episode one this season. And Gary made a point how much of a global impact
whatnot is going to have for a lot of businesses. I mean, it was on here earlier, right, Riley?
When Vintage was in here talking to Mosher
about how they can't get enough over there.
And him and his whatnot stream
have like fast-tracked VFriends in the UK
and they can't get enough product over there.
You know what I mean?

I try to explain this to everybody.
You know, we're all being given this opportunity, which is super dope, to get into the V friends.
And so I applied not once, not twice, three times.
I had seen that he had commented back and given me a humble hummingbird, which was near and dear to my heart because it reminds me of my
grandma who passed away. So I was like, okay, that's cute. I can do this. And then I scheduled
a post for yesterday to say, hey, you know, should I PFP this? And then Gary had made that post and
said, hey, mama bear, what's the update? So yes, I was trying to get a little bit of engagement out of it.
I did not know I was going to pull engagement from Gary Vee himself. But it was pretty dope,
dude. I mean, I didn't even know that what had transpired. So I actually help accounts on the
back end. So I wasn't even in my own account. I'm not on the timeline a lot. So I help accounts to grow and monetize and all that good stuff. So
I was in another project. My son calls me. AJ down there was texting me. Everybody was blowing
up my phone. They're like, Gary V made a post and tagged you. I'm like, what? So just kind of
hauled ass over and yeah, just switched it up. And then I had to call my husband. I was like,
oh my God, it's blurry. Can you fix it? So he helped me do that too. So it was a great day. Lots of support.
Your son's in here. Your son's in here right now. My son is not in here right now, but T-WAP is my
son. So nice. No, that is awesome. That is awesome. Like, so how far back do you go with Gary?
Do you remember? And by the way way that story is amazing too my my grandma
is a daily feeder of the hummingbirds and I'll tell you a quick little story 5 30 in the morning
one morning I'm sitting at my great-grandma's house this is my great-grandma I'm talking about
she my grandparents are in Texas it's me and me and and my girlfriend and my great grandma and we wake up
and I mean she has like these glass antique hummingbird feeders and she puts about I think
like 10 pounds of sugar and the rest is water. So she's always getting hummingbirds that's coming
like to her backyard. But I guess it dropped, and it dropped on her foot.
And so we had to rush her to the hospital.
But she's a dedicated hummingbird feeder.
And that was my first ever TCG card that Gary had given me with a 12 1⁄2 book back in the day.
So we're twins.
That's amazing. And you know, Hummingbirds, so they bring us so much like nostalgia and love
because Hummingbirds actually depend on us, which is beautiful, right? They depend on us because
when they go, when you start putting out these, the nectar for them, it's a spot that they keep.
You know what I mean?
Like they, they remember that it's there.
So it's really important if you do that, know that it's kind of a long-term thing and it's
really important for, for them in general.
But I've always been just so enamored with them.
As far as how back I go, how far back I go with Gary V.
go how far back I go with Gary V. Oh my goodness. I want to say he, so I had seen Instagram and I'd

seen Gary V and I just loved how inspirational he was. Always so well-versed, normal guy,
didn't care how big he was. You know, he just kind of kicks it with everybody, which I appreciated,
you know. I think people get so big for their britches. They don't have time for
the regular folks who lift them up. So that was one thing I know.
I remember telling my kids, I need to get a Discord. I didn't know what the hell Discord was.
I didn't know what the NFT was. And I just kind of went head in, you know, I'm telling everybody
it's never too late. I've only lived for my kids. I'm a grandma. And I was like,
fuck it, let's do this. So I got a Discord. I actually whitelisted. I was grinding back in the
day. So my journey started after 2020. So maybe 2022, 2023. And then I got into crypto Twitter
on the coin side in the last year, which has been very
interesting. It's just a different kind of rug pull. So and honestly, I never did anything with
VFriends because I thought it was too out of my reach. I thought there's no way I'm ever going to
be able to afford anything like that. I know all know, all of these V cons and it was just something I'd watched from afar,
but it just didn't seem attainable to me.
So I just didn't go the way that I should have gone in the first place,
but it's okay. Cause my journey brought me here now. So.
And here we are now on the Chrome bridge,
getting ready for V friends tops going to launch.

It was something, a couple projects back, and I changed my PFP because I wanted to,

All I did was when I was sleeping, I moved the co-host and stuff like

and actually doing it, putting in the work and doing something you love and believe in.

because then you're around like-minded people. You're around people who share the same beliefs as Gary, as us, maybe some of our moms, dads.

of new people. We've had new information coming out on both the comics and Topps Chrome. I don't
know, man. I'm just, I'm really happy to see what Gary has built out after hearing him talk about it back in the day in 2021, 2022, what he wanted to do or what he was envisioning with BeFriends.
And seeing how it's just now starting to flesh out for more people to be able to see that.
