super simple uh mike you know again we've been going back and forth with this i want to uh we
jumped into the history of it i know we had that fireside fireside chat a few weeks ago but i i
want to start this off with let's jump into the early stages of planet mojo right um what was it even born out of
or from or inspired by so let's start there okay can you hear me any better i can hear you yeah
okay i was getting complaints i was too quiet so hopefully this is a little better now i put i put
in both airpods so I got the double mics.

So you want to go back to the beginning of Planet Mojo?

Well, you know, I think it all started, I guess.
We were making our last project because we've all been,
because we've all been, most of our team has been in games for 20 plus years.

And we were, our team tends to, or I push them to new technology and gravitate towards that.
And so our last foray was in virtual reality.
And so we know a little bit about metaverses, if you want to call it that.
And we were working on our Sam and Max.
This time it's
virtual game started really hearing the buzz about nfts that led me to blockchain games
and trying to figure out what that all meant and sort of out of that started working on this creative idea um often inspired by things with involving nature and and technology
which is exactly what planet mojo is all about and um sort of coming up with this idea that
of a story really where you know and this was really in the craze of metaverse talk and all this stuff.
And sort of,
if we're going to live our lives in these different metaverses,
it's like, you know,
what if there was something that sort of still connected people to the real
world?
Cause we don't want to necessarily all be living in matrix like bubbles.
And, you know, I'm sure the metaverses are going to be that good, right?
So we need something to remind us that we're still in the real world, hopefully, and don't
completely just let AI take over. But these are the things I worry about. And so out of this,
this sort of crazy idea came. And, you know, we're really still in the early stages of telling the
story. This mysterious planet,
really don't know a lot about its origins, where it came from. We kind of come into this story where
we meet all these different clans and the inhabitants of the planet and this
weird event happens. We don't know much about it. Something opens in the space above the planet this thing hits the planet and this
technological virus starts spreading and the clans kind of send scouts out to figure out what's going
on and of course they have their prophecies and things like this that have lasted for generations
and this is sort of the beginning of of these things starting to come true
they meet the mojos they start battling in mojo melee and sort of you know we'll be telling this
story through new games and new chapters and new seasons over time and new mediums, not just games.
And I think, you know, I'm dying to tell you the next chapter,
but it's really something that, you know,
is going to be revealed over time.
So that's a good setup, at least.

Well I was wondering about your personal experience as a founder.
I mean, you know, you've gone through the process of marketing and community building.
And here we are on Mint Day.
I'm wondering if you could share, like, what's, you know, what's been your big takeaway?
If you could do anything differently, what would you do?
Maybe not do it Monday morning at 10 in the morning um especially when i've been in east denver the week before um yeah just been
definitely chaos still like looking at telegram as we're on the spaces but like it's all coming
together we have a great team great support great, great people helping us, Magic Eden.
And, you know, hopefully the way we've structured this, we really wanted it to be as fair as
possible. We wanted to have as few disgruntled, pissed off people, even though inevitably
that's going to happen. But just seeing some of the way recent mints have been structured,
But just seeing some of the way recent mints have been structured, we took some steps to avoid that in terms of making this guaranteed and, you know, giving people a window where they had time, hopefully, to mint.
And, yeah, it's all coming together. But, you know, it's kind of par for the course for Web3 or game development, quite honestly.
It always, you know, whenever we're releasing a season update chaos. So if you,
if you can't handle that, just get out of this space.

before anyone starts taking that personally, uh, JYP, my man,

Yeah, I think I do have a question for you so I remember that it was think August 2023 that you guys announced like the partnership with
Amazon and then you guys are launched I think you launch something on Amazon I
can't know what was it but I remember that I found you guys through that
and then through the Amazon Prime membership thing, right?
So my question is like,
how did the partnership, you know,
like affected you guys?
Did it really like boost your exposure by a lot
or did it really not do that much?
Like I'm curious to know,
like how did the
partnership really like help you guys and also would you recommend it for our you know upcoming
web pre-game should they partner with amazon as well and if yes and how did you guys also
manage to get into like the amazon partnership yeah thank you question. Shout out to some friends I see out there, old time supporters. Yeah, the Amazon partnership was amazing. It was a unique opportunity. It took a huge amount of work for us in some respects just to marry their tech in with our login system and the way they wanted it done and to be secure and kind
of if you went through that flow you know what i mean right about linking your account and kind of
going back and forth from the game um but once you did that once it was fairly easy to to claim
you know the prizes and yeah it lasted for six months um we created over 100,000 new accounts just from it. We minted over 25,000 NFTs, which we knew was going to happen.
And so it's a huge amount.
It has an effect on those collections, which we understood.
It was one of the reasons we wanted to launch this ETH collection
to kind of have sort of a separated,
sort of different tier of digital collectible NFTs as well.
So, yeah, overall, you know, it's been was a great experience in terms of other Web3 games doing it.
You know, I don't know if people have checked the site or the state of it, but Amazon is actually sunsetting the entire program for um web 2 and web 3 games and so in
in you know we were really lucky to get that opportunity when we could in the other web 3
web 3 games that got it and if it comes back we're certainly gonna do it again but for us it was like
really like this amazing test run to fine-t tune a lot of our systems in the game.
You know, that let us get minting, working directly in the game using sequence.
And that led to now being able to mint directly in the game once you level up your characters to level 20.
And just, you know, a test really to onboard Web2 users who have no experience
with crypto.
And so as we now prepare for the global mobile launch, that was really like a huge test case
for us.
So overall, great experience for us.
I love it.

And I want to say, I want to kind of jump a little bit more forward to this, Mike, on this note.
Given the experience that you guys have had so far in Web3 and just in general building,
and would you say that, would you recommend to anyone who is also looking to be a builder or founder,
would you recommend to them to be building one three gaming right um is it is it not for the faint of
heart is it is it not as hard as some people think or it's blowing it out of proportion
i have a feeling it's clearly one over the other but you know i have to introduce the second one
but what are your thoughts sir well you know i already told mark long my
my buddy who who you know kind of helped me get in here early on to to stop recruiting you know
our friends from web2 we we don't need more competition but no seriously like when i was at
dice and i see my old friends i mean i'm always willing to preach the gospel to people, but they're not
always willing to listen. And, you know, I did tweet about this the other night when I got home
from Denver, just like, just the amazing contrast I'm seeing, because I kind of live
in between those two worlds. Like if I go on LinkedIn, I see all my old friends from,
you know, Web2 Gaming and and I feel for them.
But it's a complete shit show right now. Right. I mean, just horrible.
The amount of layoffs. And, you know, I said this yesterday, literally on my LinkedIn stream, like someone is having a gathering at GDC, like in a little street corner where everyone's going to get together and scream to let out all their pain and frustration. And like, you know, again, I feel for them,
but you can contrast that with what the feeling is in Web3 Gaming right now coming from East
Denver, just the incredible excitement and optimism around this space and where it can go.
Hold on for a second how was he
denver by the way how how did you personally enjoy them because i'm i'm hearing like really good
things and some people are like you know he's forward from it but how how was it uh for you
yeah my first time there so definitely figuring it out um basically it was you know a lot of uber and
lift rides because you know i wasn't actually at that quote show i was kind of doing all these
events downtown and denver's very spread out but like it was amazing like the actual events i went
to just met some people some investors that you know i've known now for several years, got to meet them in life, got to hang out with my Animoca boys who I love seeing and always give incredible advice. the world working on new projects games but not just games you know very deep blockchain stuff
that i was you know trying to make sure i could follow as much of you know what they were doing
as possible um but also met some incredible people developing web3 games um i think riftstorm i met
the team they're from um Vietnam, possibly. Great guys.
So yeah, overall, it was great.
I love it. I love it. Well, next year, we'll have to make some room for you, Denver.
But I loved hearing about it. And it sounds like you met up with all the Cabal members.
So that's nice. I know Loki couldn't make it because he's a different Cab different cabal but you know there's a co-creation there just kidding don't worry this is not real this
is all satire for anyone start jamming oh my god there is a real cabal guys there's not there's
not it's just a bunch of people uh making up a nice little fun narrative but look i want to get
into this a little bit more um you know
mike what do you what do you want to see different this year in web3 i it could be specific to web3
gaming it could be web3 as a whole uh just just your general thoughts based off of what you've
experienced so far well you know i think we're in this cycle now. I think, you know, we see it repeated and mints and tokens and whatnot.
But like, ultimately, I think we're going to move to this next chapter here, right?
Where, I mean, that chapter can, that part's going to keep going.
It's a great way to launch projects.
It's definitely one of the things that drew us into this space. But, like, you know, if we're honest, there's really almost no Web3 projects that have brought this mainstream yet.
Right. Like and challenge me. Tell me I'm wrong.
You know, name them, please.
But like I think that's going to be the next step.
Right. It's like who's going to bridge the divide?
who's going to bridge the divide you know is it going to be a web 3 game that gets on a console
or steam that removes all the web 3 from the game i scratch my head at that a little bit to be honest
and that's why we've chosen you know path more mobile and and desktop to really lean into the
web 3 aspects because if we're ever going to bring people on board we can't hide
this stuff right that's my opinion it can be invisible it can be seamless but it can't be
hidden right you need the you need to be able to see it at least if you want to that's just my
opinion i love it i love and i agree i agree I think it's one of these things where we're in
this ecosystem where projects don't have everything ready when they're going to mint.
And it's kind of like confusing because it's like, well, if you've been working for this long
on this, why isn't it ready? Or why isn't that ready? And this goes for tons of projects, even all the way back to 2020, 2021.
All these where they just straight up, they mint it out.
Woo!
And give us three to four weeks to refine the art.
And you're kind of like, what?

Is it not ready?
But anyway, I digress.
Point being is, make sure you're able to show people these deliverables sooner than later,

It's hard to know who to trust in this space, you know, and like we even have people we've been around now for years.

we pay our our prizes and sometimes it's a day late instantly people will be like oh my god
they're scamming us and it's like you know there's so much going on but like it's important to sort
of find the projects i think that are trustworthy but it's really hard to figure that out in the early days
you know like pixelmon is a great one looked like it was heading for like disaster and like
completely turned things around it seems so like it's just really hard to predict
i agree i agree um and it's also hard to predict people's reaction to a potential solution or, you know, something that you're bringing to the table, whether or not they want it or ask for it in the first place.
And that's why our attitude has always been sort of the slow roll approach.
We want to be the tortoise, not the hare.
You know, and that's why we've taken
three years really now to release an eeth nft you know we didn't go in for a money grab this is a
free nft so it's hopefully not looked at as a money grab and we really are want to build something
you know and when we launch certain things in the future, like we've kind of waited. We've built a foundation first.
We've de-risked this.
We've built a game already.

general like really completing this vision of not just having one game but having this
interoperable ecosystem having something for everyone in there um yeah like i think you know

reason you know we didn't call it just play.mojo melee like we we actually thought of this a long
time ago and very soon it's going to change and you're going to go there and there's going to be
a bunch of different options let's just put it that way and you know with our mojo maker on-chain
avatar system we've made that sort of also also gives the key or foundation to interoperability between our projects and the future of other projects and other projects collaborating with that and being let us use that for mojos different characters and
not just in games you know have that exist through all your social platforms if you if you want to

six different war banners from the original clans of Planet Mojo.
And these tie heavily into our collection tier system,
which already exists and we've been posting more info.
It's essentially our point system which for
our mojos and champions award you points for holding them but also playing with them and these
war banners are also going to be part of that system and have a bonus collection value to them
as well because they will not be distributed equally. This is in the Medium article
talks about the different quantities of each one. So depending on which one you get and how many
unique ones you want to collect, you can get a huge point bonus, which is going to lead to some

Yeah, I mean, that's something I'm very passionate about.
We were actually doing a Spaces yesterday afternoon with shrapnel,
and this came up, and I love those little chibi shrapnel characters
and just thinking of the idea of a little mojo decked out in shrapnel
gear i think people were might be into that just have a feeling so um yeah it's something we've
definitely talked about a lot like first we needed to sort of build the foundation we're still
actually a few steps away from completing the mojo Maker to where we want it to be, to have tinting.
And then also the individual parts can be separate NFTs, right?
So they're not just melded into your character only when they're on chain.
Like if you want to just have the separate costume as an NFT and sell that, you can do it.
So that plus an eventual SDK, these are kind of the foundational pieces I think for that and in the short term us just doing
