And we often forget about security and it's a boring topic, right?

But you don't need it until you are hacked or scammed
or something bad happened to you and you lose your assets.

chain that there are more like with delegation right i don't even know how some things work

you before like how did you end up in in web3 security man like uh how did you end up here in
this crazy space jim jim um i always appreciate y'all allow me to come up here any of us come up
here and talk about security you know it's uh for sure a boring topic, but it's one that's obviously utterly, utterly important. And once something happens, there's
nothing we can do. So proactiveness around security is always needed. And yeah, I've
been doing cybersecurity from a Web 2 perspective, consulting for Fortune 1000, Fortune 500 companies
for about 11, 12 years. And then then have been in web 3 because obviously it's
fascinating back in the d5 days since like 2016 um and then when the when the 2020 bull run kind
of came around just started noticing that you know gosh dang like all these people are losing
their hard-earned money they have literally no idea what they're doing a lot of this stuff is
just web 2 scams or web 2 security as is, you know, literally clicking a link that is like the worst website designed ever and losing
all their assets. And so I was like, all right, got to take the skills and kind of transition
that over into Web 3. And since then, this is pretty much where we're at.
Amazing, man. It's great to see that, that you are so focused and dedicated for security because we've hosted a few times Boring Security and you guys are doing an amazing, amazing job.
I mentioned that you've been around for three years right now, which is great. And I believe you saved so many people, right?

That we were basically, everyone was targeting us,

different scams, these days I'm getting so many emails daily, I would say, like OpenSea,
fake OpenSea is DMing me, fake Metamask is DMing me, fake Phantom is DMing me, fake everything is
DMing me or emailing me every day uh and trying to get
me right they try to get you somehow so how do you usually start the talk about the the security
because i believe something also has to do with with the mindset my mindset is that i don't trust
anyone uh that's good and bad at the same time right right? So sometimes my mom calls me and I'm giving you
something like Captcha, so I know she's not a robot or something like that. But how would you
start discussion about security for people that, you know, they think maybe they know something
about security, but usually think that you know a lot about security, right? And then you get hacked.
So how do you start these discussions? Yeah, it's kind of interesting
because whenever you bring up security,
I mean, it's in a proactive sense.
A lot of people just don't care.
So obviously there's boring security classes.
They're free.
There are multiple time zones,
multiple different languages,
and multiple different days.
So everyone can attend those.
You even get a coin for taking the class.
So you're literally getting paid to learn about security and no one takes advantage of that.
Like it's very, very hard from a proactive perspective and from a reactive perspective,
obviously, when something happens, you know, obviously you can let them know, you know,
nine times out of 10, when I get a DM, it's like, Hey, I know I should have done this,
but I didn't. And then there's nothing really to recover because you can't recover these things.
And then it's SOL.
So it's tough.
I mean, a lot of it is like, hey, dude, what are you doing right now to protect your bank account?
It's more just Web 2 stuff, right?
Like if I take your debit card, what's going to happen?
Are you going to freak out?
So then what's the difference of protecting your seed phrase, protecting your wallet,
taking the 30 minutes it probably
takes to properly secure yourself and kind of just going from there. But I mean, you can't
force feed anyone, you know, they really have to kind of open their eyes a little bit. You know,
when you're your own bank, it's the responsibility is on you.
Yeah. And there are multiple layers, how to think about security, right? You mentioned seed phrase,
multiple layers how to think about security, right? You mentioned seed phrase. That's probably
one of the really important ones, because if you lose it, you're done. It's game over, right? So
we saw during those crazy fires in LA that they were actually cases. And I don't know if people
lied or not, right? Because of course, there were boating accidents before. But there were cases
that people actually lost their seed phrases because they just burned down, right?
So you are like, you never think about stuff like that, but it also can happen.
So then you have that like crypto steal or I don't know what was the second one, basically.
So it should survive the fire, et cetera.
Maybe you can split the seed phrase and put it on more.
I don't know.
So what are like the first steps that you want to make sure that you are secured does it start
with the with the securing your seat phrase and then you move on with a like
a computer security two-factor etc yeah I'll kind of tell you the top four so
first one is is definitely using a hardware wallet so that's ledger treasure
grid lattice plus those kind of things.
That purely is just going to go ahead
and generate your seed phrase offline.
So in the event that like you download malware accidentally,
you know, something happens,
you know, you're not screwed, right?
Because when someone gets your entire seed phrase,
they have access to everything
and they don't need your hardware wallet.
And if you're not using a hardware wallet
and if you download malware,
then they can get the seed phrase off your device.
So that's definitely, definitely, definitely step one.
Step two, from like a device perspective,
in my opinion, is then using an antivirus.
I definitely recommend Malwarebytes Premium.

and you put it in

And like, dude, all that shit is online. You cannot store that online, especially if you have an iPhone.
And if you have a Mac, everything's connected to your iCloud. Everything syncs between those.
So if you download something on your laptop, more than likely it's going to get it from your phone.
So that's that's that. And I think an antivirus,
antivirus is obviously going to scan files in real time.
So, you know, hopefully you don't download malware.
But if you do, hopefully it stops it.

everyone uh and you know want to want to get you on a call and then it's like some custom meeting prominent in the space. They're obviously shooting that out to everyone.
And want to get you on a call.
And then it's like some custom meeting link that is custom for them
because you guys are talking about NDA security.
All of it is just to get you to download malware.
So having an antivirus is super important.
Then the third and final one that I'll say
is just super crucial is two-factor authentication. But definitely, just like super crucial is two-factor authentication.
So definitely, definitely, definitely set up two-factor authentication.
That should not be SMS, and you should not even have your phone number on your account.
If you go to your Twitter settings right now and your phone number is on your account, you are susceptible to SIM swaps.
And yes, that happens to everyone.
You do not have to have a big following.
Remove it off of there.
At minimum, use an authenticator app. Better yet, use a YubiKey, which is like a physical
key that you have to touch with your finger. Obviously, once you remove
your phone number off your account, really important to store your backup codes, which is
like one-time use codes to get back into your account in the event like your phone breaks or
something. Also offline, similarly to your seed phrase,
either on like a bill fottle crypto
steel or like a laminated piece of paper thank you yeah man it's gonna be i think two years ago
yeah it was like two years ago someone tried to get me and they spent like i think four weeks man
talking to me getting my my trust, waiting for
the right moment.
And they, then they tried to get me on zoom or something.
And then they sent me the scam link.
Right.
And it wasn't like a random stupid scam that they just DM you.
Hey, click this.
But I really were patient.
It's scary.
They're, they're, they're getting good.
And especially in, you know, I don't know if we would consider this like a bear market or not.
But, you know, when it's not up only and, you know, and everyone maybe isn't happy with, you know, external macro things going on in the environment.
Like I think it was Scam Sniffer or Mist.
missed. I can't remember which one, but they put out a report saying that scammers on average
I can't remember which one.
during these times will spend up to 43 days with you to gain your trust before attempting a scam.
And that's at minimum, right? And for a lot of people that are like, oh no, they're doing that
to get like tens of thousands of dollars. And it's like, no, the unfortunate reality is a lot
of these people are in third world countries where they can steal 15 bucks
from you they'll spend a month to do that because that 15 bucks means that their family can eat i
mean obviously that's not all scenarios but like it will they will literally spend as much time as
possible to scam you if you are a target on top of outside of just you know sending a phishing email
where it's kind of a spray and pray method and then you can literally just see the front message and like if it's from coinbase or metamask and obviously it's like
mount vernon or aqua water that's obviously phishing so you said 43 days that's absolutely
nuts it's it's probably more than you than you guys know, whenever you try to approach a girl,
it's probably longer, right? It's gonna be like over 40 days to in Web3. So yeah,
maybe that's even. But Shiba, I see your hand. Go ahead, man.
I was typing. Two things. Somebody who's in the DMs often. And my favorite scam DM is like,
we think you're a great candidate for a conversation
because you're so good at what you do in the blockchain.
I'm like, give me a fucking break.
So the best way to actually,
there's some real people though.
I've actually like, didn't DM a person
because I like it's a scam.
And then I found out from another friend,
that one was like real.
So I always tell people like,
Discord, take control of your own conversation.
Whatever conversation you're having with somebody
for the first time,
there's definitely no NDNA information there
telling you whatever the word is.
So yeah, definitely just do the Discord thing
or Twitter calls like,
hey, you want to meet with me
and you think I'm really, really important?
Let's have a five minute conversation.
If that goes well, then we can move forward.
And 99% of the time they're like,
can you go to this weird link? So yeah, I wanted to capitalize on that because I've seen
that a lot. And the phrase thing that where you go into your settings and you take that backup code,
very, very important. Sometimes X fucks up and you can't get back in your account and then people
panic and then they can't log in for a few days. So I always go there at least once a week, refresh
that code and then put it somewhere safely around me so I have it in case I can't get in my account. So you can break your, your phone number from
the account. So yeah, that's also people don't even know about that, Drew, that, that people,
people don't know about that. And I think the other thing you said too, like one thing I'll
say is if, if you're going through the motions and like you're, you're feeling out, maybe there's
not a red flags and they send, and you know, and they say, hey, I'll send you a meeting invite link.
One, either don't click their link, ask for the meeting code and go directly to like the
official like Google Meet and type it in or just send it yourself.
I really don't see in this day and age if they're reaching out to you, why would you
not send the invite yourself to just avoid that whole scenario?
And typically when you do that, that's when you start seeing the red flag show.
That's a good point with a Google meet I'm also wondering drew
What about the whatsapp and telegram is there any like risk if I receive messages?
Obviously like I understand if I get a link right and I click it. That's my mistake
But can it happen like automatically?
Let's say someone dms me on whatsapp or telegram
and can something automatically downloads to my phone through that yeah so so there was i think
they patched it though there is a setting if you go to your telegram and your whatsapp where it
says like automatically download images that you're sent to setting. I definitely recommend turning that off.
But there was like this bug, I believe it's patched,
where scammers were able to put malicious code
injected into the photo, so that way when you downloaded it,
it actually downloaded on your device.
Obviously on mobile, there's not really too much
that can be done there.
There's more stuff like the desktop apps
because that's where a lot of things can can go wrong but um yeah i could i could throw some
things up to the jumbotron that kind of uh like telegram settings kind of personal security
settings i recommend uh if anyone wants to follow um and definitely take a boring security class
because we we dive a lot deeper into that but yeah yeah, I mean, I think anyone, you know, it's always just take a step back when you receive a DM.
Like if, it's so funny because I just got a DM right now.
Like this gamer is messaging me saying,
hey, like we'll pay $800 or $1,200 a week.
You know, you've been prominent in the space.
They always misspell stuff.
Like we need your prompt, fast, prompt, fast reaction.
It doesn't even make sense.
And they're like, hey, you you know this is a beta a game i just need you to beta test right and all these kind of things seems enticing i mean they have youtubes they have medium articles they
have fake bots in the discord having conversations although if you spend 10 minutes in there it's like
hey i'm from nigeria where are you from great day sunny out where are you from nigeria you know out, where are you from? Nigeria, you know, those kind of things.
But, you know, when you're taking a look at it,
it all seems legit, right?
And then, you know, you go and download it
and boom, there it goes.
What about the phones, like iPhone?
Is it safer or should we also be worried?
And also, does it make sense to have antivirus
also on the phone or it's like too overkill?
So you actually, if you're on an iPhone, you can't have an antivirus on your phone.
There are things that it can check to warn you about it, but there's no like official antivirus on a mobile device.
That's a little different for Android.
There are some protective mechanisms there, give or take.
You typically don't see a lot of scams happen purely on mobile because of the way that mobile is set up and the limitations there.
You'll definitely see it more so on desktop.
And a Mac is no safer than Windows.
They're both vulnerable.
It's just for a Mac.
It makes you confirm one extra time where if you're already confirming or you're already following for it
You're probably not even gonna read and just hit yes anyway
All right, yeah, and you mentioned a malware bytes antivirus. I've never heard about that before
Is it safer for some reason better than for example Norton?
The only reason why I say malware bytes like Norton
And and a few others are pretty good.
I just lean towards malwarebytes because I've seen and tested it where it's caught the most Web3 kind of malware Trojan signatures that are out there specifically targeting Web3.
Obviously, it still covers Web2 things.
I think any virus covers the basic Web2 things.
But just from my testing experience, it has caught the most. Although Malwarebyte still
misses stuff. Norton still misses stuff. They all miss things, right? Because a lot of this malware
signatures are brand new and it hasn't scanned or reported it yet. So it's not 100%, but it does
does catch the majority of you know your key loggers your trojan your malware etc
catch the majority of your key loggers, your Trojan, your malware, etc.
got it so what's the minimum now so it seems like the minimum is to have an antivirus right
that we should have it on our desktops everyone even if we have mac uh hardware wallet obviously
so be really like uh do it right it's annoying it's an annoying step but don't keep everything on the software on its enters same as it was in 2021 anything else
like from the minimum things that people could like right now to check if they're
doing it right yeah I would definitely say an antivirus no phone with a 2FA I
hope everyone is using pocket universe because WallaGuard is fully sunsetted
and into MetaMask now as a transaction simulation.
And it does a couple of things on X as well.
Definitely get a YubiKey for 2FA.
I definitely recommend using an ad blocker.
So something like Adblock Plus if you're using Chrome.
Although just be aware of Chrome disabled ad blockers
or they're trying to fully. So if you're using Chrome. Although just be aware of Chrome disabled ad blockers

So maybe just consider using Brave.
Password Manager, if you're using LastPass,
get rid of that shit.
Use something like Bitwarden.
LastPass has just gotten compromised so many times.
It's just kind of horrific.
Definitely a hardware wallet.
A newer product to something that I've been working with,
which is pretty cool, it's called Fairside, if you look it up.
So this is actually like wallet insurance.
So think of it as if something happens and if it is in a category of which they cover,
you pretty much just pay, I think it's like 50 cents, 60 cents, 70 cents a day for coverage,
give or take.
And in the event that you do get compromised,
you can get paid out up to 90% of what was actually totally lost.
So that's something newer.
That's pretty cool.
I've been working with them.
They just released or just went live as a product like two weeks ago.
So that's kind of like a retroactive thing.
Although, again, that's not recovering your assets.
That's just covering you from liability the same as, you know, I have life insurance, although I don't plan on dying the same way. You could get, you know, scam insurance the same way you don't plan on getting scammed.
you know when an incident happens there's always a lot of uh you know quote unquote kols or
influencers let us tweet out to get the to get the likes and a lot of times they're just absolutely
fucking wrong um and you know take a boring security class even if you don't want to take
a class at least just join the discord we always post when something happens in there that's a
trusted group if you ever have any questions i think there's about like 30 of us now and again
it's not just english different languages um So if you speak a different language,
you know, Spanish, Portuguese, French, et cetera, can talk natively in there. And yeah, it's kind
of just taking those steps and then setting reminders like when's the last time anyone
here has gone to revoke.cash, right? Like I forget myself. Set a reminder on your phone,
go to revoke.cash once a week go ahead and
revoke the approvals that you don't need anymore change your password every three months six months
whatever whatever fits it but just make sure you're changing your password just normal things
that we can just set a reminder in our phone where once we start doing it it takes five minutes to do
drew maybe that's a good uh good point to to stop and maybe talk a little bit more about it.
Because I remember, and I was doing the same actually back in the day,
that when you listed your NFT, you didn't want to pay cancellation fee, right?
So you just send the NFT to another wallet and you didn't have to pay it on OpenSea.
But when you send the NFT back to the same wallet,
there was still approval or something like that.
And I know with apes, when floor went a lot, lot higher,
basically the apes sold for like, you know, for example,
one E, but the floor was then, right?
So why is removing the...
Approvals.
Approvals, yeah, approvals.
Why is it important when you should do that and what is Revoke.cash about are there any other tools that people could use or Revoke. a token with Uniswap or attempt to sell an NFT, whether it's Mintify, OpenSea, Magic Eden,
even if you use Blur or LooksRare in the past or X2, Y2, I think a lot of us use that back in 2020, 2021.
You had to have set an approval for that NFTs collection to those marketplace contracts. The reason why you set an approval and it's on-chain is because you're allowing that contract
to essentially saying, hey, when someone wants to buy this, the marketplace contracts can extract
that NFT out of my wallet and then send it to the person that bought it.
And then I get the money in exchange.
Normal on-chain is the way, you know, the blockchain works, right?
A lot of times what happens is you set a listing for 30 days or a week or, you know, you have, let's just say, five mutants.
You only want to sell one, although you have to give an approval for the entire collection.
You sell that one and then
that's it the risk of this comes that if you still have an approval for assets that are in your wallet
do those marketplaces contracts again you send an approval for each one so if I listed it on
OpenSea and Magic E tonight two approvals let's say you go to a scam website where obviously you don't know, you're not aware,
you're not using Pocket Universe, if you were to show a warning, and it pops up with the scam
signature. That scam signature is going to pop up and it's going to be gasless. So what a lot
of people don't realize is, oh, like scam signatures require gas. And so I know that, right?
But it doesn't require gas because you already paid that gas for that on-chain approval. And so I know that, right? But it doesn't require gas because you already paid that gas for that on-chain approval.
And so the gas's signature pops up, and it pretty much can do one of three things.
One, you're essentially just transferring the asset of either like private listing it
or listing it for like 0.00001 ETH.
And then the scammer has either a bot or like an automatic sniper set up with super high
gas to get it or it's taking advantage of a bulk transfer which means it can bulk transfer all of
your nfts that you have approved to that um to that marketplace and so obviously having an approval
open when you're not actively listing or selling anything is a risk because in the event that you
go to a website and again it doesn't always have to be a scam website it could just be a legit
website that got compromised like we just saw that yesterday with with caboo right all their
stuff got compromised and there was it was their legit website where it popped up with the with
the drainer link what happened with cabo on abstract yeah yeah their discord twitter and
website got compromised i was oh shit everything
at the same time at the same time yeah really really horrible god how is this possible right
yeah this is another thing right like we're talking about us as persons but if you are
a project owner right you need to secure your discord twitter um and everything because we
used to say that if you see a link on Twitter,
go to Discord, right? Check it out
there. If you see it in Discord,
go to website and Twitter, right? So,
you always triple check, but if they hack
all three, you're fucked, right?
Yeah. Yeah, it was
not a good scenario. So, even like trusted
websites where they just get their front end
compromised or, you know,
some scanner figures
out a way to redirect the website. Like it takes one click. All it is, is one gasless click and
there it goes. And so obviously the way to avoid this is to going to dApps. The most popular one
across the board is revoke.cache. Now, obviously you can go to anything like Etherscan, ApeScan,
and obviously directly revoke on there.
It's just very easy to do on a revoke.cash.
Revoke.cash is free.
So go on there and revoke the approvals.
Now, obviously, if you are revoking an on-chain approval, you have to pay gas again because, again, that's an on-chain transaction.
But at no time should you really ever, ever, ever have any approvals whatsoever unless you are actively listing and trying to sell an asset.
Now, in boring security, we have this thing called TAP.
It's three address protocol.
You have three addresses on a hardware wallet.
The first one is your mint wallet that literally has not jack shit in it, right?
Like you pretty much, if you want to go and mint something um you have just
minimal funds to pay for the mint and to cover gas right and that's it it's purely meant as like
a mint degen wallet because you're kind of doing somewhat risky things with it then the second one
is your marketplace wallet that's the wallet where you are sending your nfts right to go ahead and
have those on-chain approvals to the trusted marketplaces and
you're not doing anything else with it the third wallet is your vault wallet so that's pretty much
where it has zero approvals you are sending things in and out of it obviously to keep it for a long
time or just keep it for that time being and that has no approvals and that's the safest because
obviously it's where you want to keep your grails technically you'll you'll have a fourth wallet if
you know you want to take advantage of using a delegate wallet,
which I highly recommend everyone does.
But those are pretty much the main three.
So a lot of people just use one wallet.
They have their grails.
They're putting approvals on there.
They're just doing everything out of one wallet.
And then all it takes is one click
and they lose everything out of there, right?
So it's just really important.
Sometimes it's annoying.
I know the extra step on a ledger or, you know, it costs some money to to move things
around and to get all this kind of kind of stuff set up.
But like that is so unbelievably minimal to go ahead and protect you and take the 60
minutes to do it right from the start.
Then it is like, oh, shit, I just lost everything.
Like, can you recover your assets?
And the answer is no, because you can't reverse the blockchain and then
obviously if you're a fair side you can file a claim and see if that's covered
yeah whenever something happens it's really really scary I'm man in my like
cold wallets I'm even scared to do delegation because I need to sign a transaction, right? And I'm always like so scared that I click on a wrong delegation site or do something wrong. I'm trying to bookmark the sites. I don't know if there's a way for the scammers to actually change the bookmark in my browser. I don't know if it's that possible. Also, what I did in the past that I was
marking legit emails from OpenSea. So I had a little star if I got it from official email from
OpenSea. I saw that it's in my contacts, right? But yeah, guys, you need to be really, really
careful, especially with all these drops that we've already experienced. I don't know.
Are there risks, actually,
if you are not signing a transaction from your... Because there was, I think, with Pengu, right?
You signed a message with your ape wallet
or your cold wallet or delegated wallet,
and then you claimed it into the Solana wallet.
Is there any risk that how scammers can get you in this situation
when you are actually claiming through the Solana wallet,
but you need to sign a message with your cold wallet if you don't delegate?
Yeah, I mean, you know, it's obviously super risky
if you're doing anything from your cold wallet.
Like 99% of the time um you know that that
platform airdrop claim whatever is going to support delegate so it's definitely the way to go about it
um there's always inherent risk whenever you're you're doing something like that and then always
obviously you know solana is a different beast right so etvm works in one way except it's an l1
solana is a different l1 works in a different way
Solana doesn't really go off of approvals there are approvals and really niche scenarios but a lot
of times with Solana if you go to a bad site it's pretty much one click and they take everything
just the way that it works but the majority of time that I see some happen on Solana is because
a scammer hacker has got someone see phrase because they just didn't that it wakes but the majority of time that i see something happen on solana is because a scammer hacker has got someone's seed phrase because they just didn't
understand it or for a lot of people they just been using the same phantom wallet for forever
or they put their phantom wallet seed phrase into like some trading bot then that got compromised or
there's just a lot of things that can go wrong there uh but yeah i mean if at all possible if
delegate is supported always use use Delegate.
It just avoids that completely.
So with Delegate, because I'm not only one
who's scared to sign any transaction
on blockchain in your cold wallet, right?
Is there any scenario with Delegate
wallet that
it can get somehow
used against
you? I think
some people were delegating some assets.
I think heavy metals
or something like that and people are able to
claim something or something like that happened before but
are there any risks for the
asset? Let's say I have a cold
storage with my ape, mutant
and other side and I'm delegating that.
Is there a risk that someone can
through the delegation
through the transaction,
hack my main wallet and get my assets or do something with them?
Nope.
Yeah, that's all the purpose of the delegate is that the delegate wallet is acting on behalf of the cold wallet
and it can pretty much just permit things on behalf of it.
It can't actually claim things or move things from that perspective. But it is really
important. Let me take that back. It depends on if you delegate your entire wallet to someone else,
or I think in the example of the heavy metal, what happened there was a lot of people delegated
their entire wallet instead of just the asset asset itself and then there was a there
was that airdrop right and they went ahead and because they had that heavy metal uh they were
able to claim that airdrop and then some funkiness went wrong but that just has to do a lot with uh
one i understand the gaming thing i mean i would just never delegate to someone else period
and two uh for the two scenarios that I specifically looked at, they did not set up delegate right to begin with.
So, I mean, for the purposes of safety of just setting delegate wallet up,
it's really just that fourth wallet to act on behalf of your vault wallet
and really just be used on that.
I mean, there's obviously, you know, you have trust in delegate not getting hacked.
You have trust in, you know, your delegate wallet not getting hacked, those kind of things.
But the minimizing risk of using that versus the chances of that happening are greater.
Would you recommend to delegate your cold storage into like a software wallet in your computer?
Or would you also use like, you know, maybe Ledger or Trezor and delegate there?
Yeah, a hard wallet. So that would be like your fourth address on that hardware wallet.
Okay, okay. Yeah, that makes 100%
sense. But there is no way how can they
hack the contract or how can they hack the delegate site or something like that and get you right.
That's my main concern.
There's always risk with that, right?
I mean, nothing is ever 100% truth.
A delegate team, that team and everything else has plenty of security mechanisms in place.
I've talked to them many times.
For that to happen, very, very very very very soon although it's doable um i don't know you know what they
would do or you know the consequences of what that would look like we are losing you there a little bit, Drew.

Yeah, I mean, I think the big thing that's been popping up lately is still those fake meeting links, right?
Zoom, Google Meet, those kind of things.
I'll post one to the top if you're not familiar with that.
That's been pretty bad. Another one that's been popping up a lot is you go to a website,
and it's obviously not a legit website,
and this fake Cloudflare capture pops up
and asks you to run something in your CLI or your command prompt.
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, even if you're a dev,
would you ever need to run anything in your command prompt?
So don't ever do that.
And then if you're on Telegram,
a big one that's been popping up there is,
if you try to join a group,
you have to go through Safeguard.
And there's just a lot of just fake safeguards
going through there now.
So either they tell you to run something in command line or it redirects you to a fake login page,
and they pretty much just compromise your Telegram account.
So just really be aware of that stuff.
I mean, if something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.
Again, if you're not sure, just hop in the Boring Security Discord and ask.
Trust the group there.
But those are the big things.
And then, I mean, anything around, you know, A-Chain.
I think we've seen this since day one is just like projects launching, scam projects launching, using art from like 2020, 2021, bought a Twitter, those kind of things.
Wrong links from sponsored ads being in Google
because you're not using an ad blocker
when you try to Google something
and you're not bookmarking a site.
Just the normal things that we see across the way.
I don't think anything in particular to Ape Chain,
but all the security applies to all chains
and everything pretty much across the board.
Yeah, that's another vector vector right that you buy scam collection
it it's happening all the time that after the mint uh i don't you know you see the same collection
on the marketplace and you go there to buy it and you buy the the fake one instead of the original
one oh my god also guys whenever you fear feel that that sense of urgency that you have to do
something very quickly like whenever
you feel it like stop stop doing anything step back and wait take a few breaths and breaths and
really think of what you're doing because man i remember it more more mostly in 2021 right like
whether it was about a minting or someone was dming you about something like you you are in a
rush and you want to do it quickly and after
you do it, you realize, oh shit,
I fucked up here, right?
I remember those weird whales.
It's such a crazy story
back in 2021. One kid was
minting weird whales.
I hop in, I minted, I was like amazing.
It was like 12 or 13
year old kid. Then they were like, oh, it's not a kid, it's adults, they are from Russia and they are trying to scam you. So I was like, shit, I need to, I need to floor it. So I floored it. Then they were like, oh, it's really kid, you can buy it. So I went back to OpenSea, but I bought the fake collection instead of the original one. And I was like, fuck you, I sent a fake NFT back to scammers and left outside, right?
Because I was in rush, I was in rush, I need to do it quickly
I was just clicking, that's always, always bad idea
so yeah
like be, please guys, be careful
I have one more question because that's what's happening to me quite often
that someone wants me to
actually install an app
for example for
and I think that's legit but I still
haven't installed that for streaming
for example
you can do from browser and I'm cool with that
it's easy, it's amazing but
sometimes they want you to install
something like a game
you know that's face filter Sometimes they want you to install something like a game,
you know, that's a face filter.
Can you realize that the app is actually a risk or you just install it and they have a chance
to monitor your computer just like that?
How does it work, even if you run it through the antivirus?
Yeah, it depends on like what it is. I mean it through the antivirus? Yeah, it depends on what it is.
I mean, having an antivirus is good.
I think before you install anything,
like literally just do something as simple as just searching it on Twitter.
Like I can't tell you how many times I've seen something
and I searched the name on Twitter.
Then there's like 15 plus posts that,
hey, this is a scam or I just got scammed.
Running anything on VirusTotal, total virus total isn't 100 but if something is obviously a scam it'll have like
a 90 plus rating um you can just put in like the website um but again if you're not sure then i
would definitely like ask us in born security or like just don't rush in anything uh there's
obviously you know certain tools where you're going to have to install them
at StreamYard, those kinds of things, right?
For anything along those lines, just making sure it's the legit one and just going to
the source yourself.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen, especially a lot of apes recently or apes

what's gonna happen with AI now?
Should we be, like, worried that there's going to be, like,
AI bots trying to scam us, or is it already happening?
Like, can you see something like that?
Yeah, it's happening.
I remember when, I think it was Sora, Soro, however you say it,
first came out, which was, like, a video, photo, and then voice.
There's definitely, there was a big instance where they actually got a shit ton of money,
but there's definitely a couple instances.
I mean, think about us, right?
This space right here is recorded.
Anyone can go back and listen to it.
It literally takes me two clicks to go ahead and upload this to an AI voice that copies it,
and then I can type out anything and play it.
And so that's being used a lot to, you know, let's just say if someone was a person named
Beast to reach out to Grateful saying, hey, man, long story short, I'm in a bind.
I just need you to send me a grand.
I'll explain later when I get back.
Or, you know, something where they're not shooting for the stars like five ETH, but
a grand, it's like, you know, damn, that's a lot of money, but it sounds like you're
in an emergency.
You could probably get that back to me.
No worries.
No questions asked.
I trust you.
I'll send it to you.
And so seeing it used in a lot of those kind of things.
And then especially, I mean, you know, compromises do happen.
The fake images, the fake videos, a lot of that stuff, it's pretty bad.
And, you know, we see it every day on social media.
I mean, whenever I see something and I'm like, damn, is that legit?
Like, that's the first thing that comes out of my mouth now like is that real and it's uh it's it's crazy times that we live in that's wild so again it's better to be a little suspicious right
and by default to have this mentality that if it's too good to be true, it's probably like fake.
100%, yeah.
I think it's definitely good to keep your guard up.
I mean, I think Michael K says it all the time, right?
Like the whole purpose of the internet for us is to click links.
Like it's not a matter of don't click links.
It's just like, hey, be a little biased in a way.
And especially if it's like this person sent you a DM out of nowhere where it's unsolicited.
Like why in the hell did they do that?
Like if Forbes Web 3, if Decrypt Media, if all these people are randomly reaching out to you on Discord or on Telegram or X, like even if it seems legit, just have them be like, hey, I'm the official Decrypt Media Twitter.

from there so i know this is legit never happens like little things like that that make all the

You know, I like just ensure that I'm secure and there's still stuff that I always learn and I get scared of, to be honest, right?
But it's really good to just keep up the practices he's talking about sharing his tweets follow drew bro and uh a
question i had is like for example if you've been compromised already right and you have like a
sleeper malware or something like that what would you say would be like the best steps to take to
check both your like phone maybe or your or your laptop great question i literally because i've
been getting this so much lately i literally just created article. I posted up top and then it's an article on my profile too of like, hey, I just downloaded malware. What do I do? Because pretty much, I mean, unfortunately, if you're not using antivirus or it didn't catch it, the only thing to do is to literally factory reset your device, reimage it, and you lose everything.
device, re-image it, and you lose everything. So that's why this is like so, so, so important
that you take the necessary steps prior to that. Because I mean, downloading malware is probably
the nastiest type of compromises because I mean, it installed a key logger. You don't know it's
there unless they drain your wallet. That typically is what raises eyebrows for you to investigate
further. They can install a Trojan. They can install a remote access like they can do so many things without you knowing they can
exfiltrate all your data that's not just like web three things that's also your passwords anything
you store in documents anything you store on your notes you know a lot of people put like social
security numbers there which is a fucking horrible idea um and just like a lot of web 2 things as well from like an identity
perspective which which is not good so very tough exactly yeah because that's uh that's kind of like
my biggest fear to be honest right more like um is there like a way to scan if you've downloaded
malware in the past even like if you're yeah yeah awesome. Anyone can go to Malwarebytes right now
and do a free scan.
I love that, man.
So it's totally free.
You don't have to pay anything.
Norton and a couple other ones also have it.
Again, I just like Malwarebytes' personal preference.
Everyone here should definitely go and at least scan,
but I highly recommend getting the premium version
just because the premium version scans everything in real time
and it scans your
computer constantly if you get the free version i think it scans it only once a day

We're kind of like, we want to onboard him.
So we wanted to do a small run of an NFT series.
Nothing too crazy.
So we did 1,111 custom kicks.
Shoes that we did.
Dettles did them all by hand.
And then, yeah.
And then we kind of started working with James a bit there on it.
And he helped.

Dedos drew them all by hand.
We brought them over to him.
And he's like, well, we got to do them in traits.
So Dedos redrew most of them.
Worked with an amazing guy who did phenomenal at generating it.

if you're not really in at least somewhat of an honest space. Or you can't grow a whole thing if

two for our Mint Pro, and I'm not here trying to shill our NFT project, guys. I'm just being honest with our phase two we already have set up is with Rita,
with making each one of the pair of shoes, the five different styles of shoes, making a one for
the digital wearables to our unlisted holders. And so we've already been working with Rita.
We've already got that done. So that was already in our roadmap for this nft series so we'll yeah so sorry let's keep going i'll i'll stop

create a collection um with reveal later reveal right and? And what I know,
I was late to mint and it disappeared,
right? It minted in like 10 seconds.
So you mentioned

And then we were excited. We're like, whoa, this is
crazy. You know, we've never done anything like this before. We were so stoked and we're happy
for everyone. And, and then, yeah, so we're on this kind of high, like this was unbelievable.
Like this worked out. This is great. We're happy. And then the next day before the 24 hour reveal, when
we were in the spaces, it went to reveal and there was kind of like a lag and people were
waiting. And then the reveal happened and a brave soul, we really appreciate, came on
stage and kind of called it out and saw some shady things. And just to be honest, for us,
out and saw some shady things and just to be honest for us we this is completely new to us
you know like metadata all these things like we're we're custom shoe designers and we got into this
completely new so we're learning as we're going and then uh it turns out that they were the
someone knew the mythics and they were sniped and uh yeah and we thought it was kind of shady too because we were like oh we wanted to see on our timeline people who were excited about the mythics and they were sniped and uh yeah and we thought it was kind of shady too because
we were like oh we wanted to see on our timeline people who were excited about the mythics would
come to us because we offered a free shoe with them yeah so each basically each
they come in with physicals okay because i was like like like doing some stuff for i don't know
like uh 33 uh apecoin mint like okay now i understand so
each of these rare shoes are coming with the physical version how many of these are there
in the collection so we had we had 11 yeah we saw so we had 11 mythics and 25 um legendaries and 25
were all one of ones done by dedos but each one of the mythics, we would work, say, if you got a mythic

figure out, okay, how do we put your ape on
this to make it, whether you want a Nike
Dunk, a Jordan,
a Shelto,
we would work with you, and that's why
we found with, even
for us it was weird because we gave out 11
shoes and no one was

on people get so we thought that was weird and then yeah we had somebody pop up
and be like and notice that some of the mythics got bought even before the mint even before the
mint how is it like so what was the mint somehow bought it uh i don't know if it's even possible
like to bought it to actually pick uh the mythics or so yeah yeah nft drew maybe you can go go ahead
maybe you know you know more about it we got we know it was a lot of it was like james um james
we were working with him and his team they were on the ticket
so he had access to all the files
and he would have known
which one was which
so basically in this case
you have a file of the design
and the number
so you know
the number and you know the design
if you have the right
I don't know it's probably not Excel sheet, right?
But some kind of database, right?
And I think for us, too, we thought that the process, it would get switched up during Blevr.
And Blevr has been good to work with.
They've been great on us.
They reply right away.
But it's just one of these, too, where we found that he must have known these numbers ahead of time and talk to people or so it just sucks because like i say we we were not planning on
going anywhere we've been here for four years we've built some incredible friendships we want
to keep building we have a roadmap to keep building and and now it's just kind of like
it's just it's terrible so
let's talk to nfc drew maybe drew do you know
something about it too or how is that possible how that works so i don't know the situation so
i can't comment specifically on the situation uh sounds very unfortunate so sorry to hear that
uh but typically the way and this is like a good educational part for a lot of people
understand whenever someone is minting or like a project is, is minting, right.
Beforehand, you will have like a dev or you have the art person, whoever's handling the
art generation, typically go ahead and go through all the traits.
So saying like, Hey, these female traits go on a female, they can't go on a male. There's a lot of like correlating, you know, combinations,
like making sure that this trait doesn't go here because it doesn't like,
if I have specific sunglasses with this hat, this doesn't look right.
And then you pretty much get all the, let's just call it formulas down,
and then you hit generate.
When you hit generate, that actually throws, let's just say if it's 3,000 NFTs,
it generates all the traits randomly together with the rare percentages of the traits generate when you hit generate that actually throws let's just say if it's 3 000 nfts it
generates all the traits randomly together with the rare percentages of the traits
to correlate to you know proper math and they're all pre-generated right so typically a dev or an
artist they'll go through they'll generate generate generate generate generate and then
they'll say okay hey i've generated five or six times i I've seen the randomness, and I think this set looks great.
So those are the pre-generated images.
Now, typically what happens is either the dev or the lead or a launchpad or whoever will go in there and they'll say,
hey, okay, these are the pre-generated images.
Now I'm going to go ahead and just shuffle them.
I'm not going to change the traits or anything to make sure that if this one was at one it's gonna be
randomly shuffled to a different number within those now that typically excludes
like one of ones because you know if you have a one-on-one a lot of people like
to place those specifically at like 69 420 maybe the last one 333 you know
those kind of things right but typically that's how it's done. Now I have seen
this a bajillion times and it's very unfortunate when greed or, you know, artists or other people
try to pull a fast one where they tell the launch pad or they launch it themselves saying, Hey,
don't generate it. I've already done it. Here's the pre-shuffle pre-generated images. And so that
way I know the metadata beforehand, even if it's revealed or not, assuming there wasn't a metadata leak, which it doesn't sound like that was in this case.
So there's that way. I mean, there is another way where you can actually randomly generate
on the fly of minting. That's not really used a lot because there's just a lot of
mechanics to that. I wish it was used more. Or you can actually use Chainlink to randomly verify via their
VRF to randomly do it.
But that's getting way too technically in the weeds.
But yeah, no, good, good, good to bring this up and talk about this.
So everyone's kind of aware of like, you know, this is quotes around it because this is normally
how it's done.
I think that 100%, 100%.

when huge collections were minting
because there was also sniping
people wanted to get
gold trades etc

collection with beast and and tino like i'm not gonna pre-shuffle like maybe i'll i don't know
but i trust them right like i don't believe that they do anything wrong, right? Why would they do that? So in this case, it's tough.
But yeah, go ahead, guys.

No, I wanted to comment on that because for us, this is our first Mint and we didn't know
how it worked.
So basically, when we were in talks with Blubber and we were in talks with our team,
when we got the metadata from the generator, we just assumed that all of it would be shuffled.
Because in my head, I'm like, why should any founder know these numbers?
Because then that just opens it up for scams and for snipes and for bad actors, right?
So like for me, I was like, there's no way that we were given these files with a number.
So for even for us, we pre-minted 20 and I didn't
even look at the boxes. I didn't even touch them because I'm like, oh, the numbers don't even matter
because they're going to be shuffled, you know? So like for me, I just assumed, and this is where
I was ignorant with it because this is completely new to me. So I assumed that all of them would be shuffled so nobody would know.
And even, I would even go as far to say even during the mid, like the pre-reveal, I don't
even think they should even be numbered. So people can even, even if people have got access to the
numbers, that they can't like snipe them. They can't even know what numbers would be associated.
Like there shouldn't be any number pre-reveal. You know what I mean? So can you hear me? Yes, yes. I'm listening for sure.
So with me, I just assumed there was a mechanism that would shuffle it so nobody would know,
because otherwise it could get in the hands of anybody. And those numbers could be leaked
anywhere to random people with random wallets
you know it's just to me it's it exposes this whole shadiness of this and that's not what we
walked into like it's not who we are it's not what we thought this was all about and
of course it's on us for trusting someone and you know we should have been more aware and we should have taken that board security class
on like who to trust and like, you know what I mean?
I guess we aligned ourself with someone we trusted
and, you know, we feel devastated by this.
And I wish we would have researched more
before we dropped an NFT drop before doing all of this,
because now we have a whole community
that kind of got dragged into this.
And we want to give as much value back
and we want to make this better.
And we want to figure out how to make it the best,
you know, for them that they're proud to be a part of this,
that they're not dragged into all this drama,
that we don't want any of that associated with this project.
So, yeah.
