Yeah, it was because it was the time when we were launching Rumpelkrew NFT project. And basically, you know, it was very funny because the space was, it was like a wild, wild west.
And, you know, there were so many people who were trying to get your money for like consulting and KOL stuff and everything.
And I think we put there a lot of like alpha for the normal guys who didn't know who, you know, who could get
screwed by some of the people who are like the shady ones in the space. And I think it was a very
cool space. Many people then joined us and it became a really nice circle as well. I think we'll
talk about it later on, but it was a nice circle of friends, basically, you know, just stopping by in the afternoon
and just talking about the DJ and stuff.

And yeah, Zach, I love that you kept building
the Snack solution. I know you also built
marketplace back in the day, but now I think you used all your experiences
from what you built before and you actually
created the Snag,
the platform that we are going to talk about today.
So could you give us a short intro, like what is it about?
Yeah, absolutely.
So, and I'll give a little background here relative to our shared experience together.
I see my co-founder Jason's in the audience today. We started Snag three and a half years ago with the goal of building kind of growth technology that could help leading Web3 brands and builders onboard the world.
retrospect was building white label NFT marketplaces. And even the folks, you know, like
Magic Eden, as an example, Blur, who have won or are leaders in NFT marketplaces have had a really
hard time building, you know, meaningful and sustainable businesses. So, you know, there
really was not a financial or market opportunity in marketplaces, but we were able to listen to many of those
early communities who were partners. And what we heard from them is they needed help, you know,
really growing their communities and engaging their current communities during a really hard
market kind of post FTX as everything was drawing down. And so that led us to build loyalty, kind of tooling, off-chain reward systems,
and really land with kind of point program tooling before that became a meta in maybe
like 2022, 2023. And so we pivoted the business progressively that direction and eventually
actually deprecated the initial marketplace business. And so today we're predominantly kind of an incentive distribution and rewards platform,
working with blockchains and large brands to drive rewards, whether those are mint-based,
token weight-based reward, or off-chain kind of points and badges that oftentimes then
translate to tokenized or context-rich rewards,
kind of offering a breadth of options there. And we're working with folks like
on the brand side, Moonbirds and Pudgy Penguins kind of doing SBT rewards.
So some like point program stuff there across Igloo company as well. And on the blockchain side, working with folks like Nexus,
Flow Blockchain, we were working with Camp Network last year and did all of their go-to-market
pre-TGE. So kind of helping folks grow within the category and leverage both, you know, or track both on-chain, off-chain, and in-app contributions to drive custom rewards programs and growth outcomes.
So I've built a pretty sustainable business there, had our first profitable month in December, actually,
and really just thrilled to be kind of like default on and alive as we head into this next bear market
and have opportunities to really think about
how we find that next big leg up on growth.
That's incredible, man.
And I remember back in the day
with those white label marketplaces.
It makes so much sense back in the day.
I think everyone was sure like that's the way
that every project should have their own marketplace.
Like Punks were the number one example, right?
And yeah, it's experience and I believe that it taught you a lot of things
and helped you to build Snack even better, right?
Because we're talking about rewards, I want to say hi Machiavelli here on stage
because he's one of the MFs who's behind the biggest games in the other side, right?
So they are dealing with a huge community there.
So Machiavelli, if you have any questions or want to hop in, just go ahead and welcome here, man.
How are you doing?
I'm doing phenomenal, man.
I'm showing up a little late today, but thanks for having me up.
And no, I'm excited to continue to hear what's going on.
And, you know, like, you know, we need innovation in the space.
We need to try new things and continue to experiment.
That's what makes this place so great.

So Zach, what's like the biggest challenge or obstacle that Web3 communities are facing these days?
Because from my experience, I think it's been like five, six years in the space.
You need to keep DGents engaged, right?
If they are not engaged, they get bored and they leave and they forget about you and they go to another shiny thing.
So what's the biggest challenge?
I do think to some degree it's creating products and both, I think for products to sustain
engagement, they have to break out of the kind of Web3 echo chamber, at least from like
a consumer brands and
communities point of view. And so, you know, Pudgy Penguins really is the best example of that today.
Moonbirds is doing some interesting stuff. Obviously, Yuga's had some success as well,
especially with the other side more recently. But for to give DGens the ability to kind of open, continue to speculate and remain excited,
I think there needs to be not just the talking points on Twitter about ability to reach mass
audiences, but some actual plan and or proven ability to do that. And so I guess like again, you'd have to come back to the Pudgies playbook.
I've seen threads about that being, I really forget the numbers, but
maybe like a 20 to $50 million run rate business just in terms of how they're
leveraging the IP for game licensing, toy licensing, partnerships with soccer
teams, et cetera, et cetera.
And really kind of piggybacking off of some of those brands and moments to drive revenue and sustainability, but then also to, you know, prior to the next big token, give their
community something to tap into and really be excited about.
You know, again, other side, Moonbirds with their collectibles, etc. I think that's
really going to be, you know, increasingly required for anything that's not CryptoPunks
to sustain relevance.
Yeah, Web3 is still so small. It's absolutely wild. And one thing that I realized
is that we are really dependent on X, right?
And with stuff that's happening here on X,
it's absolutely wild.
And I think it can really harm Web3
because the algo change and bots and everything.
So I believe the good strategy
is to expand to other channels too, right?
We have Instagram, we have YouTube and so on, which Honeybee is crazy.
You know, he's been streaming, he's been clipping, he's been everywhere.
So I think that's the way.
Could you give us a few examples how people or companies use your platform
and how it benefits the holders, collectors, customers,
or how we call them.
Yeah, and I realized earlier when I was listing some partner examples,
lots of OG Apes in the crowd here.
One of our better examples for this group is probably the Spotlight program
that we did with ApeChain last year.
And we're kind of working, continuing the conversation with them about what that looks
like as part of their building our backend more into the ApeChain product in the future.
But that's a good example of a program that tracked both social contributions, referral
contributions, things that drove traffic and social signal
around ApeChain, but more importantly was tracking on-chain contributions, whether that
was purchasing NFTs, holding NFTs, or participating in prediction markets and other applications
on ApeCh chain in later seasons. And so our core value prop is first to projects or businesses in our ability to track contributions
that drive real growth, financial growth, and growth on chain critically, and do that
in a way that is fun and engaging to communities and really, you know, adapting our technology to drive their own custom growth strategies and campaigns.
And so that's really where we shine is in kind of helping projects allocate rewards, whether that's, you know, NFTs and NFT purchasing in the case of Spotlight or more frequently direct token rewards, sometimes SBTs or NFTs, et cetera, in order to drive growth.
So, you know, using that reward spend kind of as a marketing P&L and doing that in a fun and engaging way.
So that's primarily how we're working with partners.
We powered the back end of the OpenSea Rewards tab in their previous implementation of rewards
kind of season one through the end of last year.
And have done other kind of similar core growth campaigns to help projects stand out in the
space.
I think that's the hardest way to stay sustainable sustainable to have a revenue stream, basically, as you said, and find a business behind it.
I think that that's the biggest challenge for so many projects that we've seen over the past those four years here.
So what would you, you know, like from what you've seen from the stuff that you just mentioned,
what would you recommend to the projects that are still around?
What is the future?
Where is it all heading?
Or where do you see it heading?
Yeah, so I do think, I largely agree with Spencer of Orange Cap's take that, you know, fungible,
sorry, NFT communities are kind of Trojan horses for effective fungible tokens.
So I do think, you know, of the communities we work with that have not done a token yet, I always do encourage them to think like not, hey, how do you launch a token this year? But how do you think about building, even if it's a two or a five or a 10 year plan, a roadmap of like, what does your product roadmap look like?
What are your revenue sinks, et cetera, that would enable you to successfully launch a token in a way that's kind of authentic
to you, compliant, et cetera. So I do think tokens are to some degree the core innovation
of crypto, at least as it relates to go-to-market growth and engagement in their ability to, when well done, effectively kind of like
fund, you know, or really bootstrap, I should say, go to market and enabling projects to
get to scale.
And then I think, again, it just comes back to like you do have to have, even if your
product is like a super strong Giphy viewership or TikTok audience,
et cetera, you have to have some core product that's not just a, you know, community in
its own echo chamber on X like you guys were joking about earlier.
I think you're right, but do you see a future where this goes also outside of our small
echo chamber where we've seen so many big brands entering the NFT space during the bull
market?
Do you see the future where any major brand or major company has their own token or stablecoin?
Yeah, so like, I think I don't see big brands launching will be the biggest kind of onboarding period for major brands into Web3 of any time by far.
And that that'll be driven by mostly stable coins and then other similar kind of like blockchain enabled consumer experiences.

upcoming year. And one of them is really around how we leverage our technology to drive stable
coin use cases. And so one thing I'm working on right now, I'm going to, you know, several of us
on the team are early DoorDash and kind of have a lot of kind of experience and contacts in the
restaurant and grocery categories in the US.
And so I'm doing kind of broad based outreach to kind of key contacts at public F&B companies
around doing stablecoin powered loyalty where the yield from the digital dollars will fund outsized loyalty rewards,
you know, stuff that is beyond normal user expectation via that yield.
So think like, hey, purchase in stable coins and get 5% cash back, spend $100 in a month
and get, you know, free walk on every order at Chipotle the next month or, you know, different kind of
implementations that drive outsized growth via leveraging that rewards in more
kind of like consumer friendly ways, you know, not just hold dollars in account and earn yield,
but really using that yield to drive growth of the core applications. And so I'm just like
super excited about that as one space that we're going to continue to spend time. And then, you
know, I think prediction market is actually funny enough, and that is another category that we're
planning to spend some time in. But the leading interfaces for predictions will be, you know, the New York Times or ESPN.com or even, you know, like Polymarket was already white labeled into the Oscars and a couple of these sporting competitions, etc.
Right. So it's really going to be, I think, you know, large businesses adopting this crypto enabled technology.
And then on the back end of that, like NFTs absolutely play a role in that.
You know, whether that's as membership or whether that's just as technology for like
couponing, etc.
But I think it starts with the broad consumer use cases that are already just like blowing
use cases that are already just like blowing up today, which is super exciting.

Man, from Web2, I'm used to getting rewards using booking.com. I'm climbing the ladder there,
getting more and more. I don't know, you get some percentage, right? The more you book,
you get some percentage, right?
The more you book, the better deal you get.
What about Web3, man?
Because I'm not familiar with many projects
actually using something like that, like reward systems.
You mentioned Moonbirds, you mentioned Pudgies.
Could you mention some examples
like how those projects actually reward those communities?
Yeah, it's such a funny question.
I really appreciate you asking that because I've never thought of it that way.
In Web3, the paradigm of rewards is so warped that traditional loyalty really doesn't exist.
With both Moonbirds and Pudgies, I'll talk about Moonbirds since it's been going on for longer.
Moonbirds, we did these SVTs that were mintable by both Moonbird's community members, but also kind of ecosystem partners.
Jupiter was a partner, CoinGecko was a partner, et cetera.
And they were kind of fun, brandable moments.
We're doing something similar with Pudgee's roughly.
And they did end up kind of translating as part of the equation on TGE.
part of the equation on TGE.
And whether the participation in ecosystems
is quite that directly rewarded with tokens
or whether the relationship is a little bit more abstract,
that really is typically the way these communities operate
is with the expectation of future airdrop-based rewards.
I actually guess an interesting kind of counterexample then is Flow, who really outlocated all of
their token roughly in the last cycle.
And what we do with them is power a reward shop interface where points are actually spendable for physical goods, PlayStations, digital gift cards, really focus on electronics
gift cards, USDC, et cetera, that are purchasable as NFTs in their reward shop. So they're actually
spending points for off-chain assets that represent real items.
And they have a whole formula around how that value from contributions, gas spent on contributions, et cetera,
kind of translates back into that ability
to spend on physical items.
So it is possible.
It's just very kind of out of the design space
in terms of how native businesses are traditionally
thinking about growth.
And I do think we'll see many of those businesses get smarter and integrate kind of like direct
cashback, reward per trade, etc. where they're doing direct token distribution based on those
actual contributions.
So I think we will see

everyone is doing different thing right uh we are building the the metaverse game which is
which is a little bit different than trading cards for example but it has uh it has a huge
potential to reward players
and reward people spending time there, doing stuff there.
I can imagine that maybe for hosting something there,
you could be rewarded, right?
Other games, what they are doing there.
So many ways how to do that.
How can people actually...
You mentioned Moonbirds and Pudgies, those are like a big projects, I would say.
Who are your other clients? We don't need to know names, but are projects like other games or these community built or driven activities also, like your potential client?

Yeah.
We've done a lot in gaming.
I actually think gaming is a really interesting
category within Web3 where it really does
make sense as a use of like NFTs, blockchain technology, etc.
more so than most other
consumer products. And right now you would probably have to give Web3 gaming, obviously
other side is maybe a clear exception and still quite early in its development because of the
amount of scope around the project relative to other Web3 gaming projects but like largely web3 gaming
gets a failed today but i think it was also a too early some of the consumer uh as abstraction
and just kind of ease of development wasn't uh wasn't there uh and i i absolutely think that it
will get validated as a category in the next few years.
And it's only going to take one example, whether that's another side or another project that's, you know, is currently building a project that kind of pivots out of Web2 to leverage some of the technology and then starts to drive adoption.
And in that use case, NFTs just make a ton of sense.
In terms of our partners on the gaming side,
we work with Wildcard.
Apologies, one second.
I'm actually just going to try to pull up our app up real quick
to make this easy for me.
Yeah, so on the gaming side, we work with Wildcard.
We work with Zed Run, Zed Champions.
We work with CCP, which actually is a large kind of traditionally Web2 game studio.
I think they've raised that something like a $400 million valuation
and are launching their first Web3 title.
Uprising Labs and several others here. So that would be gaming category.
We do a lot of work with blockchains. We work with ZK Verify and Horizon, Ape Chain.
We work within kind of the Igloo company portfolio broadly, Zeta Chain, and a couple of others.
So lots of native brands here generally.
We do have a couple of kind of more traditional partners,
Rolling Loud and Black Mirror,
who have both launched an NFT and a token respectively.
But hopefully that helps give a flavor of where we are today.
And really for 26, the goal is to build products that we can
sell to, you know, web two businesses, traditional brands, et cetera, in the stable coin and
predictions category. So I'm trying to really broaden beyond that, you know, native TAM
as a core priority for this year.

Because, man, it's crazy.
It's not only about the people and creators, but about the businesses.
They had their marketing budget and everything, which they can do whatever they want, right?
But they decided that no InfoFi campaigns here.
Yeah, definitely a crazy pivot there.
I guess specific to Snag first,
we do support kind of social Fi-ish logic.
We didn't ever build out kind of InfoFi
in the kind of like mind share metric driven
sense that you saw with Kaido.
But we reward users for creating content, for the impressions of that content they create,
for liking, retweeting and following, you know, kind of all the core social activities
that are traditionally associated
with SocialFi. And we were actually not affected by that crackdown. We don't work through the XAPI.
We're kind of, you know, we're working over the top of it. And so, you know, I've continued to
offer those services and really are seeing lots of demand for those services with other, you know, have continued to offer those services and really are seeing lots of demand for those services
with other, you know, projects being taken out
of the category.
So it's been great on our end,
just from a business point of view.
I do think the category needs to mature a little bit.
I think we, and I think that ties with what we're trying
to do on really driving, you know, everyone was talking about, hey, we're tracking on-chain as part of these social buy programs.
But it's not enough to just track what's happening on-chain.
You actually need to reward users for their on-chain contributions and make those contributions really critical in order to achieve high earning positions.
Like the whole concept of rewarding large token allocations for posts on Twitter with no actual, you know, product usage,
it just doesn't make sense and it's not what tokens were initially supposed to drive.
So it makes sense that the category almost needed to get cleaned up or shut down
temporarily. But I think we'll see other variations that are just less sloppy and more around
supporting real community members and micro influencers, et cetera, around creating real
content and driving the growth of projects.
And I think that the category will solve that for how to do that more organically.
The biggest problem is that there are always people who, of course, try to farm everything
here.
And man, it's crazy.
It's crazy.
So I don't know if InfoFi was that bad for my timeline
because after they shut it off or shut it down,
my timeline didn't improve.
I still have AI slop and stuff like that,
so I don't know what's going on there.
But it's interesting.
I also know that I remember that project.

I know you do Onchain rewards, right? So
what do you think of that? Other side. Other side.
I mean, it's super sad to see the shutdown of Farcaster. I don't know if it's really shut down,
but you know, the team giving up, etc. I don't think there's an alternative to X today
that kind of matches the form factor that crypto wants, right? Like crypto is a financial high
speed technology and we really want like information velocity, which is really like
the text only medium. And so with, with Farcaster,
you know, not going to eat X's lunch anytime soon. I think we're going to be here for the
foreseeable future. I think we'll see projects do a lot more social fight type stuff on TikTok
and Instagram. We're actually already supporting that, that type of logic on those platforms.
I know Kaido's talked about trying to do something similar there with their studio product.
But I think back to like, hey, projects need to tap into broader audiences.
The social phy mechanic was proven to drive growth.
And I actually think it can be even more effective if it's not in an echo chamber where this content is reaching, you know, real users that are not just seeing the same slop 30 other times in their feed.
So I'm excited to see kind of more experimentation of brands outside of X, but I don't think like crypto Twitter moves anywhere.

Yeah, it's very specific and it's very hard to build new platform
and bring users there. We've seen that and it's always
a ghost town after some time. Unless you have some token drop
that people farm. I see another incredible

And so what would you recommend to projects, man?
If they want to reach new audiences outside
of Web3, maybe? What's the best way to approach it? What's the alpha?
I mean, like, there's no alpha other than hard work, but you see, I mean, Pudgies, Chimpers,
I don't know the full list of, I guess, Klanosaurs, right?
Like there's maybe like five or so NFT projects that have massive Giphy, TikTok, Instagram
audiences, et cetera.
So it's super achievable.
And sure, you know, points or tokens, et cetera, could help accelerate that.
I think that's a largely untested category,
but the only two answers are, you know, do the hard work and develop the IP as a, you
know, non-Web3 brand on those platforms. Those brands that have grown don't talk about the
fact that they are NFT communities on those platforms and slash or, you know, build products that tap
into, you know, broader communities.
Like the other side would be the best example of that, not a social strategy, but actually
building a product that could onboard millions of users itself.
So, you know, I think those really are the only two strategies.
And I think, you know, unfortunately, like, yeah, Good Vibes Tribe is maybe an example
of a more recent project that seems to have, I don't know what their strategy is, but it
seems like they're going to do something here.
It's not like there won't be new entrants, but I think of, you know, kind of the OG projects, there's probably like 10 to 20 that really have the remaining juice as teams to build social strategies and or real products, trading card games, collectibles, etc.
And we're excited to be partnering with, I think, a lot of those 10 to 20 at this point and hopefully helping them, you know, find go to markets that find big audiences.
Mark, I'm really go ahead.
I mean, like this, like Web3 is like an IP incubator.
You know what I'm saying? Like, are you guys looking to like, try to find any gems in the rough to maybe like put out there to gain traction or anything like that? Or are you trying to focus more on the established brands and stuff like that?
our product is really driven towards letting projects implement their own custom growth
strategies. And we work with some smaller projects who are using our tools to do that.
I'm struggling to think of any like great recent examples, to be completely honest,
but we have price points at like $250 a month
and definitely are trying to help folks grow early on
in their life cycle.
I guess just like due to the laws of business,
and as a SaaS business, we are trying to,
I'm trying to spend my time on larger accounts
that can pay us much more than $250 a month
because we
would not be sustaining ourselves if that was our primary price point.
No absolutely.
I do think you know for the good vibes tribe example just because there's maybe 10 to 20
of the OG projects that are still kind of staffed and capitalized to succeed.
That doesn't mean that old IPs, Moonbirds, Pudgies, etc. can't be rebought by new teams
who can help them succeed by putting in capital, time, energy, etc. or that new IPs can't pop
But ultimately, you need creative, motivated teams to go solve hard problems to reach scale.

If you can share, do you have any announcements in the pipeline
that are on fire?
Do you have anything that you would love to share?
Yeah, I mean, I guess the two main things I'm focused on
are I talked about stable coins and kind of doing some go-to-market
with stable coins and loyalty this year.
But then the big thing we're super excited about is prediction markets. And to me,
you know, stables and predictions are the two kind of like fundamental things happening in
consumer crypto right now. And in predictions, my thesis is that the majority of predictions
will be placed on leading consumer interfaces that already exist today.
More than half of Kalshi's volume is happening through Coinbase and Robinhood, so it's already
largely being validated.
And so we want to go build a prediction markets product and build it as an aggregator that can offer all of the best kind of predictions,
odds, et cetera, through leading consumer interfaces and making it really easy for
traditional brands, crypto apps, DeFi super apps, et cetera, to offer predictions to their users
as part of that native application. So we're going to be spending a lot of our time there,
have already put a meaningful portion of engineering on that build.
And just super excited to be getting back to founder mode
on something as we go into this bear market.
