think is genius like go check out pudgy penguins on instagram you know it's it's kind of remarkable
how he's built it into something that like people actually are excited about and the amount of
engagement that it gets far exceeds anything that yuga does you know in like a six month time period
honestly um you know look at you know the amount of shareable stuff that happens with like giphy and
you know all the gift stuff that they do it's like pretty remarkable and the basic idea is like look
if there's lots and lots of people that care about pudgy penguins out there and actually genuinely genuinely
love pudgy penguins then there'll be people out there who are you know higher net worth who want to
collect the original pudgy penguin which is you know obviously the eth nft and that's no different than
like what you see with something like you know disney characters or whatever it is like if you
want to go spend you know two hundred thousand dollars on a disney collectible believe me those
exist for sure and there is a market for that kind of stuff but it starts first and foremost with
making something beloved for everyday people and i think that's the boat that that's the different
track that pudgy penguins is on versus everything else and then the final thing i'll say about it is that
you know as someone who's you know been a early you know believer in the layer zero uh
ecosystem you know an early early investor in layer zero and believe very strongly in and primo and
the whole team over there you know they've built their entire sort of identity system around pudgy
so so i have two core reasons to hold pudgy penguins like number one i'm a huge believer in luca i think
luca's a rock star entrepreneur i think he's hustling his ass off he's putting in the work and i think
the work is showing and number two i'm a hardcore layer zero maxi strong believer in primo and the team
and you know i want to i want to show off and and be a part of that team because i'm a believer in
that team and i am i do get to play a very very small part um in in their overall success okay how
does that justify okay so luca's working his ass off they're getting views on instagram your kids want
to play with a penguin plush toy how is this justifying a twenty thousand dollar price tag for
a pudgy penguin twenty two actually twenty two thousand dollar price tag yeah so i think it
really just comes down to perceived value so you know you got to look at it this way the value of
anything in the market um in in the crypto market is actually someone's perception of future value
right it's not about today's value right like everyone is buying bitcoin at 38 or 39 or 40 000
whatever it is at this moment because everyone believes in the future it's going to be a hundred
thousand or 150 000 or 200 000 some people out there believe it's going to be a million you know
people are longing eth at 2150 because they believe someday it's going to be worth three or four or five
k um you know the same is true for pudgy you know so the the rationale for spending twenty two thousand
dollars on a pudgy is okay well gosh in the future if luca continues his arc you know pudgy penguins
are on sale at walmart and you know maybe there's like you know actual stories around pudgies you know for
example comic series movies you know tv series whatever all of that is like within the realm of
possibilities given what he's already been able to do then will there be people out there in the
future who want to own original pudgies you know in in over the course of years i'm not talking about
like days weeks months over the course of years yeah that's that's entirely a real possibility you
know and it just comes down to someone's belief system and conviction in that and then the final reason
would be it's sort of a an alternative play you know within the layer zero universe you know if
you really believe in layer zero and you want to be a part of the layer zero ecosystem in some way um
you know in an adjacent way to be very clear highly adjacent um then you know that's another way to you
know kind of like show that you care deeply about layer zero and those are those are two reasons why
some people may decide to spend 22 000 or 24 000 or whatever the fuck it is on a on a penguin picture

sitting here with an encyclopedic knowledge about luca's past what i'm focused on is what he's delivering
now and going out and striking licensing agreements getting other companies to put up capital to
make products and actually fulfill them send them into stores i mean i don't know if you've ever
made a physical product chilling villain but i can tell you i have you know going going to china
convincing factories to make products you know shipping those products getting those products
into walmart dealing with the cash flow stuff you know walmart pays net 105 i don't know if you know
that it's actually really hard man it's like really really hard it's harder than most people are
frankly willing to work in our industry and so when i see someone out there actually doing that kind of
shit you know i i mad respect mad respect because it's not easy uh well he he decided to leave the
cancel army all i'm going to say is okay the last time we investigated pudgy penguins it wasn't even
an investigation double ape came up here on stage if you know who double ape is if you don't know who
he is you'll oh i know he's another talker he's a what he's another talker yeah oh he can't help
himself he comes up on stage and he says that pudgy penguins committing fraud and x y and z so we just
happened to ask some questions we barely even investigated all i'm going to say is is that
luca has had a past history of running some projects and is no longer public about the projects no longer
talking about them and there's holders and we've talked to some holders of people of projects that
he's formerly owned and and they're not happy they're they're not happy with former products and
that's fine that's okay i understand not everything works out and look 99 of businesses are going to go to
zero anyway in the real world long run 99 90 of businesses are going to go to zero in the long
run however however in web3 i think the numbers were even higher but is this is this simply a case
of if number goes up it doesn't even it doesn't matter like it doesn't even matter like number goes
up like we're willing to forgive all all sins because it seems like luca has been given the free pass
on some of his past questionable behavior i mean look i i don't know again i'm not sitting here
as the ethics police on luca nets so i have no idea what he's done or what he's not done well all i can
tell you is what i've told you in terms of my connection to the project which is i own a single
penguin i think it looks cool i think it's cute i think my kids like it i see him doing the work
the products are in stores that's all real you can go buy them they're well-made products they're cute
they're fun it's hard to do that you know i've built i've built physical product companies in my
past you know i've done lots of you know e-commerce businesses in my past as well and i know that
shit is really fucking hard i just know it's really hard to do so you know did he i'm sure every
entrepreneur that i've met who's a successful entrepreneur has failed in their past i have
failed in my past every single entrepreneur i know has failed in their past that's successful today
in something so now they're high integrity ways to fail and there's low integrity ways to fail
i have no idea what he did or didn't do all i can tell you is right now i'm seeing the work
the time that i've spent with him i've felt like he was high integrity with me and was very honest
and candid and he didn't oversell like i hate when people oversell that also drives me nuts but
that's not at all the impression that i got from him and that's what i can tell you uh in terms of
my experience my personal experience with luca okay so let me ask you does it does it does the
past of a of a founder if they're making the price go up on a current product does it does it not
matter what they've done in the past honest opinion i mean you have a look if you if you look
think about that that question right like there's a there's a whole set of extremes there like if i found
out some founder was a fucking axe murderer you know am i going to feel good about holding the
current thing fuck no of course not okay would you would you though if you know you know what i'm
going to step up of course not naveen's a good dude i've known him for a while he's smart he's good
he's done some really cool stuff and he's got a really good good like take on the space and i've
spoken to luca quite a few times i've been on space so i like him i'm going to tell you right now i
like him i like what he used to say he's worked hard and if he has not done well with a few other
ones i don't even know because i've never looked into it i don't think he did it on purpose because
it's really easy to fuck up in the space or nfts or crypto whatever so i don't think he's some some
bad dude like if anybody's winning like i'm okay with watching him win that's okay do you get what
i'm saying no i get i get what you're saying i i think my question is is like are we willing to forgive
all bad behavior if the if the number goes well what what is the bad behavior well i'm just this is a
this is just a theoretic this is just a theoretical question i mean okay but you but you're you're
attaching it to luca well i think you're attaching it to luca i'm just having no you you are you are
attaching it to luca are you asking are you asking a generalized question are you pivoting to a
generalized question because it's so that's cool it is a generalized question but but there are there
are facts here of projects that have been founded in the past and look a few months ago look if you were
in the spaces i know there's people listening right now that were here we had simply looked
into some of the some of the things that he had founded in the past and that was it we had simply
looked in we had holders come up i think there was a few spooky boys club and there's just a number
of them okay so the project that he's associated with that have sent on to absolute zero i mean
talking bottom of the mariana trench which is fine look 99 90 of businesses are going to zero i open
up a taco shop i don't make the taco shop doesn't work they were fine but here here's what i said
here's what i'll tell you look first of all what what the word rug in our industry is used to define
uh many different outcomes okay so a rug is is used to define when someone literally steals from a
project a rug the word rug is also used when a project even though the founder does everything they
possibly can it still just doesn't work it still doesn't perform economically so people call it a rug so
the word rug is kind of a tough one because it applies both to like literally criminal behavior
and it also applies to it just didn't work out and it didn't work out for many different reasons maybe
people didn't like the art people don't like the community people didn't stick around the timing was
wrong the marketing was wrong the messaging was wrong there's a gajillion reasons why something just
didn't work so my attitude is very simple i don't fault anybody for failing at something when they were
when they were actually like in earnest like doing their very best i think like that's i think that's
like not the right way to operate you know for people like fault people um you know with when they've
actually been you know high integrity now if you came to me with evidence and said hey here's a founder
that stole from the project stole from the treasury literally committed some sort of like a legal act
that's a completely different situation but you know look i come from the startup community
you know i went through y combinator i've i've invested in lots and lots of startups i see
startups fail all the time and i see founders fail in high integrity ways where it's like look the the
product just didn't work you know startup just didn't work to your point most businesses do fail
that's like fact of the matter and you know if luca had some failures in the past which i'm frankly
sure he did i don't i don't hold that against him why why why should anyone hold that against him
okay so i guess we're we're we're willing to give the free pass then i think that's
kind of the but i don't like calling it a free pass because i said a couple things that you're that
you're it's kind of like you're picking and choosing here a little bit so look what i said is every
single successful founder i have ever met in my life every single one has failed at something
failed at something something didn't quite work it could have been a product that they tried in the
market didn't work a feature they released that didn't work you know whatever i could sit here
on stage and talk to you for hours about experiments i've tried that have failed in my life you know so
i don't think we should be you know villainizing failure i think that's just dumb i think we need to
say look sometimes things don't work if someone actually gave it they are they're all put in the
fucking work put in the effort tried their best didn't lie cheat or steal like actually was honest
about the situation and high integrity about it and it didn't work it is what it is this is an
early industry we're all early we all like to talk about that and i think it's true so i think we should
just acknowledge that failure does happen and and embrace it instead of villainize it okay that's fair
that's fair and i think that's a healthy thing oh here's what here's all i'm gonna say do we know
that the effort was given the best on these projects do we know that the intentions were the best on
some of these on some of these past projects no we don't know in fact looking at some of the some of
the some of the research of them and some of the holders that got to experience it firsthand i don't
think that that was necessarily the case but here's my thing right number goes up big i think they're
and you might not like the word free pass i love that word because in in my opinion i do believe that
the free pass is given when number go up i think a lot of people are willing to just not even look not
even do the research hey hey bark have you have you ever failed yeah i tried to learn how to ride
a bike and i couldn't get the training wheels off okay no no i'm asking you a direct question i mean
have you have you ever failed you know have you ever as in any entrepreneurial have you ever tried
an entrepreneurial thing are you an entrepreneur i don't know you very well yeah i'm an entrepreneur
i think it's in my bio let's see oh it's in my bio i'm an entrepreneur okay and have you failed at
things as of course a hundred percent a hundred percent okay okay so so are you know are new
people coming to new businesses of yours um giving you a free pass no that's a great question and i
don't know but uh okay well uh if you're if you're gonna say that about every other entrepreneur in
this space then i think it's fair to say it about yourself too oh i'm not saying it about every other
entrepreneur in this space i'm simply talking about because look web 3 numbers go up nfts pump that's
a great thing look i'm not going to deny that i'm not going to be so so hard-headed to say that
pudgy penguins pumping is very good for the space i'm gonna i'm not gonna lie it's very good
for the space a lot of other numbers are going up cute projects are pumping the little pudgies
are pumping sappy seals are pumping you know zookies are pumping nfts are pumping at the moment
but all i say is that i think it's worth i think i think it's worth challenging i think it's worth
asking questions because if nobody asks questions then we're gonna fall into another state of disillusion
i'm not suggesting you shouldn't ask questions i think it's perfectly healthy
to poke things what all i'm saying is we have a bad habit in our industry when things are going
well for one project or another you know like you gotta be you gotta be honest people sometimes come
out with the pitchforks and i think that's it is a human behavior thing you you see it in all industries
you look at look at uh the timeline related to the cyber truck i mean you have it's two hilariously
different uh takes right you have the you have the mainstream media saying the cyber truck is a failure
and oh my god you know it's like doesn't even work and whatever other bullshit they're making up about
the cyber truck and then you have like all the entire opposite end of the spectrum all the people
who pre-ordered our cyber trucks are excited about it you know people have actually driven the truck
who've given reviews on it it's it's we live in a world now where we get to choose our own truth
and it's really a weird world like what is actually true is is is like now essentially completely subjective
thing and so what i would say to you is i'd say look in my opinion this is an industry that needs
things to be successful we all want these things to be successful and you just said that yourself
so what i would say is yes go ahead and ask questions i'm not saying you shouldn't ask questions
i'm just saying just be aware like we we have a habit in our industry when things are going well for
project one we bring the fucking pitchforks out and i think we just need to be cognizant of it
of that that's all okay and on the on the flip side of the spectrum yo yo i've been i've been
listening you guys go back and forth i think you guys got some points but you need to know everything's
on spectrum when we talk about rugs or if you want to back out something i don't want to toot my own
horn but when businesses don't go well like this is an age-old business practice it's not only to web 3
if you do if you invest in startups and i have to where founders can't make it and they know that
they don't have product market fit their original thesis isn't good they don't just slow rug and just
take a salary and keep going they'll return the money they'll say okay it this ain't gonna work
we're gonna shut it down return the money investors so investors believe in these founders and will
continue to invest in them in the future because they took the they did the right thing or they kind
of like said okay this ain't gonna work and then like sometimes you're like okay this founder is
trustworthy he comes with a new idea i'm gonna back him there's a huge difference between
the way someone ends something or the way someone fails there's ones that just fail it's like
like a crash like a huge crash or it's like you fail but you're like dude the next time that guy
gets a chance he's gonna blow the up so there's different levels and and what i'm hearing from
the bean is great i'm sure that you know there's a spectrum to it but i don't like like saying give
a pass to just everybody when when something no so samachi so look all i i agree with you i said that i
said how how something fails if you have you have to fail in a high integrity way so communication's
important you know i i you know i know you've invested in lots and lots of startups so i'm aware
i know that for me all i can do is speak from my personal experience i've certainly had founders who
i've bet on you know i just had one this year where you know i bet on his first startup it died it didn't
work out he started a new thing he called me you know wanted some more capital and you know i thought we
but he was highly communicative and he was high integrity about the first failure and i believe
in him at the end of the day anytime you're investing in a startup you're betting on the
person you're betting on the team that's really all it is and so you're right it's like is the
person a high integrity person is the person solid whatever the reason the failure was it's
all facts and circumstances at the time but high integrity is what matters over all else and if
the person was high integrity then you may decide to give them another chance that's all i'm saying
right it's about good morals
great point look here here's all i'm gonna say like in web three the when i talk about giving the
pass look it's very easy to celebrate and i'm not i'm not i i will i want the web three space to
succeed i think anyone here wants wants the space to succeed they want number to go up it's obvious we
wouldn't be here there's no pessimist just hanging around hanging around hoping that everything goes to
zero if you're if you're here honestly right now but here's all i'm saying when number go up on
products in web three it's a common trend that they get the free pass to have shitty behavior
i've seen it in the past and i'm just warning because i already see it happening again they get
like a you know a fortnight shield you know you drink that blue stuff like you can take additional
hits they ever you get the fortnight shield and i've seen this behavior from from many founders in
web three i mean look at look at what frank de gods did to this community look what k money
says on a daily basis i'm talking people that have a big following or generally liked or have
made people money in the space get a free pass to just to excuse their shitty behavior it's just
it's here and i think if nobody questions it if nobody brings this up and no one talks about it
it's never discussed and i think people get walked off of clips all the time i think it's important to
understand that luka nets has been involved in some failures in the past and to immediately write
them off as he probably tried his best and and you know blah blah blah i i think is unfair and i think
it's worth doing to do the due diligence and i'm definitely going to be doing the due diligence and
i'll be fair about it because last time we did the due diligence for a few minutes on spaces the the

really really dictates what they're doing currently but uh i believe in lucanets so and i think the uh
the evidence is in front of us i mean walmart i i've never gotten a product in walmart but i have
to imagine they're doing some sort of due diligence if anyone on stage can uh can offer clarity to that

need to believe that there's going to actually be buyers of the product otherwise you don't last at the

um you know you can't go to any vc or any investor and ask for money it doesn't care it doesn't matter what
idea you have they will do their due diligence and that due diligence means that you had seven
previous you know uh um investments that failed they will look into that they'll ask you about
that then i mean that's part of due diligence so just because somebody had you know seven failures
doesn't mean they have seven rugs i mean i'll give you a much given example earlier where you can
have an you can have you know invest that can give you some money then you run through some of the
money maybe you you did a you know a pre-seed you did a seed and then you did a series or whatever
and then at some point you figure out you don't have product market fit or you know your co-founder
you know takes up to go and find jesus christ or something and you're left in the lurch you have a
choice you can either run through the runway until the money runs out and the investors say oh wait you've
just blown through all our money what do you have to show for it or you can do the right thing return
the money and go back and do something else failure is relative and i speak from experience yeah but they
don't they don't have that here when you give somebody money here they spend it they buy some
other art something like that yep i'm coming to that so in closing the closing point i was trying
to make is failure is relative and in web three because everything about web three as it should be
is about making money it's very easy for somebody to raise all this money and then oh no it's not
