I'm shocking the shades with my brother in Captain. Thanks so much for joining us. Bring my chainsaw full, take a cast in the bribe when my breaks off. I'm a one, but a different kind of steak sauce.
GM, GM, welcome to Coffee with Captain.
Thanks so much for joining us.
Appreciate y'all being here.
We are live over on Abstract as well as YouTube and X Video is back.
Appreciate all of our GMers.
We do have a special guest today, sponsored interview coming up at nine o'clock.
I have a full house in here, not just a special guest interview today, but a new campaign we're kicking off, have some exciting stuff in the works for all of you and genuinely excited about this one.
Would love to have a full house in here. Not just a special guest interview today, but a new campaign we're kicking off.
Yes, it's a sponsored campaign.
Yes, they're paying to be here today.
Yes, we'll have more stuff coming, but we've been pretty selective on who we work with.
And this is one who truly, truly grateful, honored, excited.
I think they're doing, not think, I know they're doing something different, something novel,
and blending the Web2 world with Web3, bringing some real world assets on chain.
And quite frankly, haven't heard anyone, for the most part, talking about this one.
haven't heard anyone for the most part talking about this one and you know well-funded big
partners already made some tremendous headway and uh really really excited to have them join us we'll
talk more about that about nine o'clock but again if you haven't done so give us give us some love
on the space today the audio space would love to get this thing warmed up drop your comments
questions in the chat even a gm goes a long way towards warming up the algo and then after you
drop those gms in the audio spaces head over over to YouTube and drop those GMs in there.
100 bonus points, go on to any new subs today.
We also will be, we haven't shared what it is yet,
but we would definitely be doing
another community member of the month for March.
May or may not have something tied in with our new sponsor.
May or may not have something tied in to Vegas,
potentially close to adjacent to Bitcoin Vegas. Maybe, maybe a gift card for In-N-Out Burger. In-N-Out Burger now
coming to Tampa, as well as I hear New York City. New York, you know, needs some, needs some,
actually some good food options. I kid. The one thing I do like about New York is incredible, incredible food scene there.
Bojangles, that one doesn't get me quite as excited as it does rigs.
But I have a couple.
We had a busy day, a lot happening.
Markets are ripping gold.
And I mean, Bitcoin and ETH both ripping.
Bitcoin now trading in lockstep with gold. Are we, is the flight to,
you know, the digital narrative,
the flight to safety?
I don't know.
We will see.
We'll get into markets here shortly.
But before I do so,
a couple of cold open topics.
It's not going to be a half hour this morning.
I probably should check
since we do have a guess.
I'm assuming audio is good across all channels.
No issues.
I see the GMs over in YouTube and I don't hear any issues on X.
So I'm assuming we're good there.
And I don't know.
Highly debated, heated debate this morning in the war room, I should say.
Bojangles versus In-N-Out Burger. Is this even a conversation? Like, is this a debate this morning in the war room, I should say, Bojangles versus In-N-Out Burger. Is this
even a conversation? Like, is this a debate? I'll stand corrected if the chat agrees with Riggs
calling Bojangles. Like, I'm kind of in shock. I didn't even know this was a debate. I thought
In-N-Out Burger is widely, almost universally accepted as one of the best burger joints in America.
And historically, only on the West Coast primarily, and starting to expand and grow a little bit, it looks like.
So excited, excited for that.
I got to come clean.
I don't even know if I've ever eaten Bojangles.
So maybe this is a me issue.
I just, it would not.
If you asked me to name like the top 10 restaurants, Bojangles doesn't even enter my brain, but very well could be a me thing.
That said, a couple of cold open topics before we get into markets. And then we will, you know,
I haven't actually kicked it off as a segment, but I did talk about doing one trade a day.
My trade today, now last time I did a trade and I shared it on the show, was shorting the GUI token, that silly gas token that ended up liquidating me before the
show was even over. The chart was fixed. So hopefully I'm not jinxing it today. But I will
share, I will telegraph the trade I made this morning, which now is looking good, already up quite a bit along the ETH at 15x leverage.
And keep pumping, keep pumping, baby.
We are off to a good start this morning.
Thank you very much, Hans, for the tip over there in abstract.
Greatly appreciate GM Katie crushing it with the new abstract update.
I don't know the exact number, but I think I saw she got like 46,000 XP. I had,
it was my, it wasn't nearly, it was maybe like a 10th of what Katie got, but it was my biggest
week in XP for a while. And all I have done is just, I stream over there. So no changes,
nothing different, but it looks like the streamers got a little extra. Oh, I take that back. I did.
That's incorrect.
I did mint those Z-Packs.
So maybe streamers got a boost.
Maybe the Z-Packs, one of the two.
That's the only thing I've done, though, is mint those Z-Packs and streamed the five days a week.
Rick says, I'm proving that Florida is not a Southern state.
99% of true Southerners love Bojangles.
These are real stats.
Maybe Florida is a Southern state.
I'm just not a pure Southerner yet.
Maybe that's it.
I need some more Bojangles in my life, I guess.
I'll do this.
I'll at least go try some.
I'm not a big fast fooder, but I might be having a road trip here soon, debating today, deciding whether
I book a flight or do a south to north cross-country road trip. And up in the air, up in the air. I may
do that today. Part of the cold open, before I get into the more serious cold open topic,
another goal, another lacrosse goal for the other captain.
My daughter scored again last night.
Back-to-back wins they've now booked against previously undefeated teams.
Might be on a little bit of heat.
Like a big game on Thursday, another rival,
and a very, very good team that we'll be going up against
that lost last night by one.
So maybe looking for some vengeance.
But yeah, Briggs, I'm not the only one.
Trekkie says, I need to Google Bojangles.
And Thomas is backing me here.
The top two when I'm out of town are Wawa in Florida
and In-N-Out Burger in Vegas.
I did not know that other people go to—I mean, I'll eat at Wawa every once in a while.
That's my—if I have to charge, it's usually the primary supercharger spot throughout the state.
But did not realize Wawa would be at the top spot on visitors.
Did not realize Wawa would be at the top spot on Visitors.
In-N-Out Burger when in Vegas or Cali, yeah, it is a, I feel obliged to hit it up while I'm out there.
I didn't share yesterday.
It was, I don't know.
You are along the ride for my life, and I share most, probably too much on this show at times.
I do have a, the War for my life. And I'm, I'm share most, probably too much on this show at times. I do have a, uh, the war room will know I did get recently gifted a t-shirt, uh, that was shared in
there recently. I'll be, I'll be rocking that, uh, maybe tomorrow on the show, uh, but excited about
that. And, um, uh, yeah, the, yeah, thank you. Thanks, Katie. Appreciate it. Yeah, great start to this season. Really excited for them.
And it hit me like this is it.
Like March is her last, I mean, the playoffs are in April.
So, but as far as like scheduled games go,
like senior night is the end of this month.
Like it's just slow time down, please.
All that being said, my mother had a successful somewhat of emergency surgery
yesterday, had been having some issues, passed out over like right before New Year's and hit
her head and wasn't great. And then a couple episodes this week, she actually had a heart
monitor on and was that was to be turned in yesterday,
two days ago.
And long story short,
sometimes you just never know how,
what is good.
And she had an episode that prompted
a trip to the ER and they admitted her
and led to installing a pacemaker yesterday.
Had she not had the episode the day prior,
things maybe turned out differently.
It was pretty serious in terms of some things that, you know, she needed the pacemaker. And ultimately, the cardiologist booked the surgery yesterday at the end of his day. And things went
great. She did great and is fully, is recovering and, you know, has a couple of weeks recovery ahead of her, but grateful for modern medicine
and talented cardiologists. And just my quick note before we get out of cold open here to,
if you're fortunate to have your mother with you, call your mother today, tell her you love her,
and just appreciate your loved ones. Life's too fast. Whether it's your kids playing sports or your parents aging, life is fleeting.
Make the most of it.
Enjoy the present.
Don't get too hung up in whether it's Bitcoin markets or geopolitical issues, war in Iran.
It's nothing that's nearly as important as your family.
Focus on what you can control.
And don't get too caught up in any of this. Don't take
anything too seriously. Just enjoy the time we have here. Now that I got that out of the way,
appreciate y'all being here. Thanks again for the early love, getting this thing warmed up.
Excited for our guests joining us here in about 45 minutes. Thomas, I may do this. This is actually
like if I was not, if I didn't have the Tesla, I would absolutely be flying.
I can get a direct flight out of Tampa for less than 200 bucks.
Yes, it's Frontier, but I don't mind Frontier.
I've flown with them dozens of times and actually don't mind.
I fly very light.
I don't even need to carry on.
I've got, like, a backpack that I pack my stuff my stuff in and good to go. But I just prefer driving. When I was building the repair franchise,
the last year prior to us getting acquired, I think I put on like nearly 50,000 miles in my
Jeep that year. My dog Cooper drove with me everywhere. And anything less than seven,
eight hours, I would certainly drive. This to Cincinnati would be about double that.
So it's a little outside of the short range,
but it's like it would be about
after I factor in driving to the airport,
to the airport early in the flight,
and then getting Uber when I get there,
it's about half the amount of time.
And I'd rather drive. I'd rather be in control
of my trip. And I know that there's, this would not be the first. I know many have already done
the autonomous driving from, you know, East coast to West coast. I don't know if anyone's driven
from Florida to Ohio yet, fully autonomous. And so if I do drive, I very well may do that. It's about the same. I already checked on what it would
cost charging round trip. And it's less than a flight, especially if you factor in an Uber
or a rental car when I get there. Tampa is ultra fast getting out of it. I mean,
it's an incredible airport. So incredible airport, direct flight.
Logically, it makes sense for most people just to fly. I just, I don't mind driving,
especially when the car can drive me and I can multitask without, with still paying attention.
So we'll see, we'll see. I may, there's, there's an outside chance. I just hit the road Thursday after my daughter's game and drive as far until I needed to hit a wall and need to take a nap or check into a hotel for a bit.
But if I do that, we will be going audio only on Friday.
So to be determined, thank you very much.
Diablo Eto'o, greatly appreciate it.
It took me a minute to think about FTM doing it.
Good on you.
Yeah, call your mothers, FaceTime with your mothers,
tell them you love them,
and it might be the best thing you do today.
Yeah, I don't mind driving, as long as I'm not driving.
Actually, I don't mind driving as well,
but it's just...
I don't know how to explain it.
I need to think through this better. It is,
Wes says, flew to Tampa last week. Next time you fly to Tampa, hit me up. We'll do coffee in person.
Flew to Tampa last week, drove a U-Haul straight back to Cleveland. Airport, 10 out of 10. Drive, one out of 10.
Yes, driving a U-Haul cross-country, not great.
Having a Tesla drive you, not bad.
But yes, if it was between driving a U-Haul and flying,
I would opt the flight route. But sometimes you got to do what you got to do.
Jed, appreciate the kind words.
And glad your mom's doing well also.
And yeah, I do think, you know, modern medicine, technology, pretty amazing.
It wasn't even like a, she didn't get put under.
Like it's, again, I'm not certainly a cardiologist or a doctor, but pretty incredible.
Now, she didn't stay overnight.
She'll get discharged today.
But something like that being a non-invasive surgery and instantly feeling better is what
a time to be alive between medicine and technology.
I've said it.
If you're new here, just survive
the next decade. And I think you might, you know, I think we'll see many people live into their
hundreds, not just decrepit old people, but actually be active and healthy and thriving
late in life. I think it's also, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not accepting that I'm in middle age yet. It's maybe the first third of my life if we run pure here.
All that said, we got to get going here.
We've got a lot to get into.
If anyone has any questions, comments on the market topics, please do jump up on stage
or drop your comments in the chat down below.
The engagement interaction is greatly appreciated.
And as our guest joins us,
please do share your questions. It's a new topic. I'm sure, like I said, I haven't seen many talking about this and it might be something new for all of you. So please do bring your questions. We'll
do our best to get all of them answered and appreciate you all being here.
all them answered and appreciate you all being here. Market's ripping. We're going to jump right
into market update and Bitcoin back up over 70K. I think touched 71, 71.8 this morning. It is,
I'm pretty sure, check me if this is wrong. we did get back into extreme fear. So good time to buy
19 on the fear and greed chart. Bitcoin currently at 70,890. That's up almost 5% on the day,
up 8% on the week. Pretty sure that we hit a one month high once it almost touched 72 this morning.
There's a little bit of resistance at that 72 mark,
but we plowed through the 69,420
where we had resistance previously.
ETH also up 3%, 3.6% on the day,
6.24% on the week.
Spot ETF inflows of nearly 40 million yesterday.
Bitcoin continues to, like the Bitcoin ETFs are on a tear,
I believe five consecutive days of net inflows, the longest streak in a bit.
And Binance buy-sell ratio hit 1.18, highest reading of the year. Signaling, we talked earlier
this week, is it just short covering?
This might actually be genuine demand.
Volume also above a billion dollars per hour at its peak.
And talking about those Bitcoin ETFs,
IBIT alone pulled in $263 million yesterday.
Yesterday's total was $458 million net inflows,
some serious institutional demand.
Speaking of institutional demand, I don't know if it's a big deal or not, but I think it's positive
that Indiana, the governor, we talked about it last week, it did officially get signed into
bill. Let me see if I can find it here. Make sure I'm not misspeaking. It's actually not full of information, but it's bill HB1042,
allowing Bitcoin to be invested in state retirement plans. I think that's a big deal.
I think also we saw here in Florida that there's a proposal for there to be no capital gains tax
on Bitcoin would be pretty exciting for all the Florida men and Florida
women out there if we can not only not pay cap gains on Bitcoin, but also start leveraging our
Bitcoin to buy homes, buy property, use it as a down payment or collateral rather.
I won't be up so dumb. I appreciate it. I won't be in Cleveland. I'll be Cincinnati as where I'll
be heading if I do drive. I mean, either way, I'll likely be in the Cincinnati area this weekend, just debating whether I hit the road or go via air.
Also, just seeing, DJ news about 20 minutes ago, breakout month for Solana stablecoins.
Transaction volume hit $650 billion.
Pretty big news there.
the world's coming on chain. Like it or not, things are happening. A lot of positive tailwinds
The world's coming on chain.
Like it or not, things are happening.
and things continue to just continue to stack wins. Despite recent price action, it has been
a lot of wins coming in on the crypto front. Probably maybe the biggest news of the day, I mean, I'll show Trump's post yesterday, some calling it word salad.
The tone seemingly was like a 180 from the last time he mentioned the Clarity Act or the Genius Act, where it kind of was blaming like the crypto firms of delaying or causing
Now he's pivoted and blaming the banks.
Kraken, though, just became the first crypto firm to gain access to the Federal Reserve's
core payment system, put it on the same payment rails of thousands of US banks and credit
Seems like a big deal.
Not my area of expertise, but just seems like a nice win.
Would not have guessed Kraken to be the first, but congrats to them and the team over there.
And again, I don't know how you put a negative spin on this.
So we will celebrate it here today.
And here's a little more details on that.
Called a watershed milestone in the history of digital assets.
Kraken becomes first crypto firm to win access to Fed's core payment systems in the Wall Street Journal here.
Summary, this is from Bloomberg.
Kraken's banking unit has won access to Fed Reserve core payment system, making it the first crypto firm to be able to move money on the same rails.
Used by thousands of banks and credit unions, the approval of the master account at the Fed will allow Kraken Financial to handle transactions more quickly and seamlessly for big
clients and professional traders. Having a Fed master account would give Kraken Financial direct
access to Fedwire, a critical interbank payment system that handles fund transfers. I don't know
if that's bullish or bearish for the XRP army out there, but Joey, thanks for jumping up.
Can I get a quick mic check?
I just want to make sure before we get into the nine o'clock hour, I want to make sure that everyone can hear you over on YouTube and Abstract in the X video space.
GM, Joey, what brought you up this morning?
Can everybody hear me?
Oh, there's a bad echo.
You're okay.
No, for me, there's a bad echo. You're okay. For me, there's a bad echo.
I can hear myself.
Now it's gone.
Yeah, I didn't catch any echo on my end,
but someone in Thomas or Helpful Soul,
anyone over there, Diabloito,
anyone in the YouTube chat?
I mean, it could also be that X is still broken for me,
but the echo's gone now, so that's good.
Yeah, if anyone over there in YouTube
could confirm you heard Joey loud and clear,
or if not, let me know that as well,
but hopefully he's coming through today
in all audio.
Thanks, Otis.
Appreciate you reigning community member
of the month, Otis Vineyard over there.
Go ahead, Joey.
Yeah, so the other day when
we were talking about like onboarding people it got me thinking about all the different places
where like i i have access to crypto and then you just started talking about kraken so i came up and
like i don't think we talk about enough like for those of us in the us i don't know if it's
available in other countries but like
venmo is a great example where i have i just opened up my venmo because someone sent me money
and i completely forgot i had like 16 in bitcoin in my venmo because with the venmo credit card you
can choose to get your rewards in crypto and i was like oh i'll get a venmo credit card you just never know when maybe
i'm gonna venmo you know the only payment somebody takes is venmo and instead of paying cash for it
i want to get you know i'll pay with the venmo credit card get cat get bitcoin back so then i
was like i was like what other ways are there and then you know we've got paypal paypal has their own stable coin like there's like i think we underestimate
the accessibility that's happening with crypto and all the different
um mediums i guess on where you could access it so i don't know globally like if somebody's you
know outside the us what it's like for them but just thinking about it, you know, outside the U S what it's like for them, but just thinking
about it here, you know, we have the standard stuff like Coinbase and all the exchanges.
And then we have something like Venmo and PayPal and all these payment processors that we've used
for how many years that now we can easily access crypto. And I just don't think we talk about it enough. Excuse me.
Yes, I agree.
This is, to my earlier point, like, now that the tech improved, it's everywhere.
And it's not going to slow down.
Like, it's just going to be, I think we're getting really, really close to just the average user, the average consumer, not having to know anything about crypto. And yet, they're going to be able to buy crypto, they're going to be able to transact in crypto.
Just really exciting stuff.
Wes, I say, he thinks that it is just U.S.
E&S names are supported on Vidmo.
But some things might be region-specific today, U.S.-specific. I just, I think one of the beauties of,
I know stable coins and payments,
I know it's not exciting.
I know it's not going to 100-ext your portfolio.
But yet, like accessibility and onboarding,
like all that stuff matters.
Like getting rid of the stigma
that many associate to crypto today,
when people start realizing that instead of having to go to Western Union
or to pay a $50 international transfer from their bank,
they can just send stables for virtually free across the globe,
they're just going to start doing it.
More and more people are going to start using this technology.
They're going to start using crypto for payments and things that just make sense.
It's just better than the Web2 or the off-chain counterparts and really feels like, yeah,
just a lot of positive momentum and, yeah, just, just getting started. Like where, where is,
where are we going to be in, I don't know, a year from now,
probably in a pretty decent spot. Like could things change? Yes. If clarity act or, or this
stuff doesn't get go through, does that cause a, uh, you know, uh, a pullback or something?
Maybe, but man, it just seems like there's so much positive stuff,
not even talking about the AI agents and the agentic stuff that is, you know, also coming
on chain, just feels like a really, really good time to, to be here, be in the space,
be paying attention, whether you're a builder or just an active participant a lot of exciting stuff happening also yeah real
quick before you switch uh topics so my dad he and i know i talk about him a lot but so he he
subscribed not subscribes but he uses all those like uh browser extensions like rakatan and all
that stuff to to save you know that they scan websites whenever you're shopping online to save
you money and years ago he signed up for one of those discount websites and they gave you your rule
your cash back in bitcoin so we're going back like i don't even know it's got to be at least
five to eight years and one day i was at his office and he was like you know and i was helping
him organize his crypto and whatever and he was like oh yeah i also have this crypto sitting over here and from using one of
those cashback browser extensions he had accumulated 0.25 bitcoin and yeah because the
remember remember like what is he buying in racketson well but remember this is back when
bitcoin was only like you know we're talking like he's he was using this extension like you know like it's
got to be like five to eight years ago so bitcoin was was was low so he was getting you know 10
cash back 15 cash back by shopping online through this one now they're at the browser extension is gone now like that
that company is no longer uh like one of those coupon companies but he just he had accumulated
like 0.25 bitcoin from shopping online and using their website to do all the purchasing
to get cash back and i was like you have and at the time bitcoin was like a hundred thousand and
i was like you have 25 grand of bitcoin sitting here and and it was because he was used he'd been using it
for so long and and it just makes me think about like all the ways that you could encourage people
to like again i the coinbase credit card i've talked about before like i can i use another
credit card and get two percent cash
back or two percent in miles and whatever yeah but as somebody who believes in bitcoin i rather take
my two and a half percent in bitcoin and just keep stacking bitcoin because my dad is an example like
right now bitcoin's at 70 if it goes back to 150 that two and a half percent that i'm making right
now is going to 2x right so like i just
so anyways you're you're like i'm i'm filming because i use rakatan and i've gotten i don't
know hundreds of dollars in cash back checks from rakatan but it's always been cash i don't even
want to look and see what it would have been if they had just been giving me bitcoin
imagine if you had like wouldn't you if you didn't need that cash back right now right like if if you
were using the rakatan extension and all of us that are in crypto and rakatan's like oh save 10
on at you know on lego.com and save five percent on you know uh nike.com and you had a choice of
either just cash back or bitcoin i would imagine all of us here would probably choose the Bitcoin
and just stack it and just keep stacking and stacking and stacking
because we're going to buy that pair of Nikes anyway,
whether we save 5%.
So why not get in Bitcoin and just keep stacking it
until it turns into 2Xs, 3Xs, or 5Xs?
Yeah, no, or five Xs.
Yeah, no, I'm with you. And I know some people attempted to dunk on Steak and Shake,
giving their employees a raise at like 21 cents per hour
in Bitcoin, but that's awesome.
Like, are some of those employees
gonna immediately swap it and cash it out?
Yeah, but how many of them are just gonna forget about it and treat it like a new age?
Investment account, retirement account.
Like a 401k or something like, hey, I'm getting this 21 cents.
I don't miss it.
It's a raise.
I'm just going to live without it.
And yeah, I think it's a big deal.
I think, and what is, did we know, why is Steak and Shake, I mean, they were one of the first to, you know, they put Bitcoin terminals in all their restaurants.
Is it like the board is just really pro-Bitcoin?
Like, now they're doing the raises in Bitcoin.
Like, what, has anyone connected those dots?
Like, what is the
why is is steak and shake so bullish bitcoin has any is there been any good i just think steak and shake likes to be in the last few years like they're one of the first companies to switch to
like all uh beef tallow in their fryer like i just feel like they're whoever their ceo is or
whoever their board is is like you know what
we're gonna stay we're gonna be like the first we're gonna stay ahead of the curve we're gonna
do all the things that other people are talking about so it just i feel like they're just very
forward thinking yeah i mean i am uh i'm here for it and i think it's stuff like that that
I'm here for it.
And I think it's stuff like that.
Is that in itself going to onboard waves of people?
I mean, maybe not immediately,
but I think your dad's a great example.
That's incredible to just be using a Chrome extension
and end up having 0.25 Bitcoin
because he's been using it for a while.
That's awesome.
And little things like that,
I think will continue to onboard, quote unquote, the masses. I don't know if there's going to be
one singular catalyst, if you will. But I think all these are adding up to just, again, more
tailwinds for the space and really, really exciting stuff across the board. Speaking of exciting stuff across the board and also some breaking news here, just seeing
Bitcoin Magazine account here says, Morgan Stanley issues new SEC filing for a spot Bitcoin
ETF, announcing Coinbase and BNY Mellon as the custodians.
All this stuff matters. It wasn't that long ago where Vanguard prohibited the Bitcoin ETFs from their accounts.
They've quickly pivoted.
Like, it's just, I know I'm a bull.
I know I'm a perma-optimist.
It just seems to be hard to ignore just win after win for adoption of crypto adoption of stables adoption
of a bitcoin and if we zoom out a little bit and don't get hung up by oh numbers been down year to
date it's i i can't think like since i've been in the space since early you know january 2021
Since I've been in the space since early January 2021, at the highest level, it seems like there's more positive tailwinds than ever before from multiple angles.
This is the other one I mentioned.
Trump's statement yesterday said the crypto market structure bill is threatened and undermined by banks.
We must protect this industry for Americans. The Genius Act is being threatened and undermined by banks. We must protect this industry for Americans.
The Genius Act is being threatened and undermined by banks, and that is unacceptable.
MDASH, courtesy of whatever, probably, I guess, OpenAI now that they've broken up with Anthropic.
Anyways, he goes on to say, or it goes on to say, we are not going to allow it. The US needs to get
market structure done, ASAP. Americans should are not going to allow it. The U.S. needs to get market structure
done, ASAP. Americans should earn more money on their money. The banks are getting record profits,
and we're not going to allow them to undermine our powerful crypto agenda that will end up going to
China or other countries if we don't get the Clarity Act taken care of. The Genius Act was
the U.S.'s first step to making the United States a crypto capital of the world, and getting the
Clarity Act done is the next step to finish the job and, most importantly, keep this big and powerful industry
in our country. The banks should not be trying to undercut the Genius Act or hold the Clarity Act
hostage. They need to make a good deal with the crypto industry because that's in the best interest
of the American people. The industry cannot be taken from the people of America when it is so close to becoming truly successful.
Maybe that's AI created.
Maybe it is word salad.
It's like the polar opposite of the last time he commented on this and where he basically took a shot at, I think, directly at Brian Armstrong.
I didn't mention Brian Armstrong directly at Coinbase and the crypto industry for, you
know, delaying this thing because they were standing firm.
And regardless of your feelings on Brian or Coinbase, I don't know, man, maybe I'm naive.
It just, it really does feel like they have the industry's best interests at heart.
best interest at heart. And, you know, more good representatives are a space is a net positive.
And he could have easily folded. He could have easily folded and got the thing done. But said,
you know, if you remember, it wasn't that long ago he said no bill is better than than what's
being proposed and hopefully uh hopefully we're getting close to some resolution there uh joey
go ahead and get back in here and then we've got a uh take from zonko in the chat you mentioned uh
open ai and not to change it to the an ai talk but you i don't know if this stat was correct but i
saw something uh i don't remember what this stat was correct but i saw something
uh i don't remember what social media app i was on it was either instagram or x where like since the announcement of chat gpt working with the dod they've had like half a million people unsubscribed
from their service or something like that i guess people are worried that like, like the government's going to have access to all of their, you know,
searches and function or whatever they're doing in chat GPT. Now,
have you seen that?
Yeah. So yeah, two things happen. One,
I think chat GPT uninstalls hit an all time high while Claude flew to number
one in the app store, flipping them. I don't know, maybe the related.
I'm the naive one that just, I have both,
and I'm using the tools and I'm not going to get too hung up
with who's doing what with my data and information.
I believe that Google and Meta and Apple, they've had all my information for years, and I'm not doing anything nefarious.
I don't – like, yes, I want privacy.
I respect privacy and those who are all pro-privacy.
Anybody that has a cell phone gave up all of their privacy.
Let's be honest.
Yes, I agree.
I agree. I agree. So, but no shame if someone wants to uninstall ChatGPT and move to Claude.
Also, I think Claude made it very easy now to import your data, not just from ChatGP,
but I think most of the leading LLMs, you can import your memory, your data, not just from chat GP, but I think most of the leading LLMs,
you can import your memory,
your history, even on the free version.
Previously, I think it was you had to have
at least the $20 plan to do that.
Now it's even on the free version,
you can import all of your prior data and
prior information chats, etc.
A couple of other things here real quick before we get
to Fred in our conversation with Doma coming up at nine o'clock. Appreciate everyone who's helped
warm up the room today. The YouTube chat popping off like normal. Yeah. How many millions of people
read that and missed the M-? I don't know. You would think
we're at a point that it's so known for those that are in the know that they just stopped using the
M dash, but I don't know. And I know people used it before AI, but it is, I think, one of the
flags that this is probably AI created because it's not a normal,
for most people don't use that normally.
Oh, it could be a minute. Sorry, Otis, to realize what SNS was. So he says, I think Steak and Shake
might be a Texas mindset thing, just doing it different because they can't. Are they based
out of Texas? That would make sense. I was not, um, uh, I've not done a deep dive on, uh, steak and shake, but Thomas also has
the customer service line at Walmart should be shorter to send money to other countries
and way faster.
They, they, um, the customer service line could be eliminated once, you know, stables
and crypto rails are widely adopted.
Shake is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Interesting.
I don't know where the first one was, where it started,
but it's headquartered in Von Fronten State.
I mean, probably completely unrelated, but maybe not.
Maybe there was some lobbying there
from the Shake and Shake executives
and that corporation to get this bill pushed through that
we just talked about where bitcoin is now acceptable for um state retirement plans
there's more to it than just that i'll see if i can find the actual first take the check opened
in normal normal illinois normal illinois i had i don't know where the word normal i don't know
where the tex Comet comes from Normal
What is normal?
Normal, it's situated on the historic
There's a university there if I'm not mistaken
I don't know if it's southern Illinois
I know Illinois is in Champaign
But there is a
I think there's a university in normal. I don't know. I shouldn't.
Illinois State University. Yeah, that's it. Um,
home of the Brandon Jacobs.
If anyone remembers Brandon Jacobs was a, uh, just a,
the first Sonic and Knuckles was, uh, was Brandon Jacobs and, um,
Tiki Barber. Tiki Barber. Yep. Yep. Good call.
There's your more, you know,
little bit of trivia going down the,
this, the, the sports streets this morning.
Back to crypto news though.
Zonko, good take here.
Sharing that Bloomberg article or Bloomberg post is,
this was interesting while markets were down.
Also not sure if you've checked your banking app, but the Fed Reserve was hit with transaction
issues. So some ACH wires couldn't be sent. A lot of things coming together at once,
like Joey mentioned. Yes, we talked on Monday. I overheard a conversation at the gym in the
morning from two gentlemen, I would say at least 10 years, maybe 20 years older than me,
talking about they couldn't wait until markets opened, the 24-5 markets opened, so they could
get some trades in after the weekend's activities. And while Bloomberg says crypto traders flock to
the hyperliquid exchange to hedge commodities as conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran erupted,
I think it's actually, I mean, I guess maybe if they're on Hyperliquid, they are a crypto trader.
But I think we're seeing more and more TradFi people getting into Hyperliquid.
And I know there's others.
I just, for as 24-7 trading goes in stocks and commodities, like, I think Hyperliquid's crushing it.
My longest morning Hyperliquid's crushing it, my longest morning, Hyperliquid.
I know I could have done that many places, but it is, again, all this points to just more and more adoption and positive, you know, positive movement across the board for all things crypto.
Market related here, probably last market topic, but I saw a few people sharing this
as well from Cointelegraph.
All season discussions have hit rock bottom on social media, which
has historically been a strong buy signal before major alt rallies begin.
I'm not saying go out and rush out and buy your favorite altcoin.
What are altcoins today, Cap?
Like, what are we still calling altcoin?
I mean, I would call anything that's not Bitcoin, ETH, Solana,
and I'm going to now add Hyperliquid to the majors.
So like Chainlink, XRP, Cardano,
like all those are all still considered altcoins.
Yeah, I mean, certainly like doge and the i think this is just a doge report here
the the chart you're looking at is just doge but certainly certainly memes i think you could go as
far as say yeah it is things like like the like the emperor as well,
Chainlink, et cetera.
But personally, when I think of alts,
I think of everything that is,
so I guess it's actually,
that's just popular queries.
Institutional ETF accumulation,
tariffs, Trump inflation, ETF,
alt season, meme coins.
I think any, yeah, I'm with mayhem.
Anything outside the big four are alts.
That's my definition of alts
others can disagree i just feel like chain i mean maybe this is a little off topic but i don't feel
like chain links and alt anymore like if you really look into what's being built and how many
people utilize chain link i'm not sure if i would call chain link an alt anymore. I mean, again, I don't know if there's an exact
firm definition. I'm not saying you're wrong. Just my personal definition, what I view as the
majors would be Bitcoin, ETH, Solana, and then I think Hyperliquid's breaking into that realm.
Maybe they're not there yet. You could argue, well, if Hyperliquid's a major, then so is Chainlink.
I get that.
I get the thesis.
I just, yeah, I think, I guess I'll say this.
Not all alts are meme coins, but all meme coins are alts.
Phonix says Link is certainly an altcoin.
Why do you think that, Phonics says Link is certainly an altcoin. Why do you think that, Phonics?
What makes Link an altcoin if Hyperliquid is not?
Yeah, I guess that would be my...
At what point does something move from an altcoin to a major, right?
Is it adoption?
Is it like... what's the word?
Like transaction volume?
Like what, because Chainlink is massive, right?
Like the infrastructure and what people
and how many companies and businesses
and other things that are using Chainlink
is huge compared to maybe where it was
two to five years ago.
Also, Phonics said hype is an altcoin too.
Yeah, hype and altcoin,
but mostly to become a major,
would say market cap has a lot to do with it.
Mayhem says, yeah, it's on the edge.
I guess this is like probably tomato, tomato.
Alts are a wide range.
We can talk altcoins from not just Doge, but all the way down to not just Pingu, but Burb
and the pump fun runner of the day, all the way up to Chainlink.
Yeah, hype is still today an alt.
I would say that.
I just think it is well on its way to becoming a major.
When you talk about, is Chainlink used?
Hyperliquid is generating, like, if you look at just, like, revenues, I'll pull up a chart here. But chain or protocol revenue, day in and day out. It is up there with the biggest,
I mean, many times generating more revenue
than even Solana or Ethereum.
The one alt that is a major is Fartcoin.
That is our giving Zane some love today, a kid.
But you also could argue that every coin,
not Bitcoin is an alt.
I mean, is BNB still considered an alt?
I mean, it's got a massive market cap.
Yeah. Is BNB still considered an alt? I mean, it's got a massive market cap. I mean, the market cap of BNB is actually above Solana.
So like, do we...
I don't think market cap is the best indicator,
but I understand those who would take that stance.
I kind of agree with Phonics i i don't actually i don't completely agree i think
i think you have to consider bitcoin and eth and solana definitely majors and then after that i
would probably say there's probably like oh i got a phone call i'm sorry i would say bitcoin eth and solar definitely majors and then you could probably split the room on is it bnb is it um hyper liquid is it link like i bet you
you could probably if you pulled 100 people it'd be pretty split on some of these other ones
yeah uh i don't i don't disagree um i mean yeah it's also does it does it really matter um
i'm just curious based on the article saying that like an alt season is coming and it's like well
what are we considering all so that's why i asked asked. Yep, yep. No, fair question.
And I think for most,
it is probably all the above,
other than, I mean,
Bitcoin, obviously not an alt.
And some would say, yeah,
Bitcoin dominance is what you want to be looking at.
And even at altcoin season,
it compares Bitcoin to basically everything else.
So probably by definition, it's everything but Bitcoin.
My brain, my perspective is ETH, I guess BNB.
It's just not really in my brain space.
I mean, some could argue XRP is not an altcoin, but I think it's absolutely an altcoin. All those have a higher market cap than Solana. I mean, Doge, all these
other memes have higher market cap than does Hyperliquid. But when you talk about
where they're heading, I guess, I think it's much more likely that Hyperliquid becomes a major, maybe next cycle than any of these others that are
fringe or in that realm of are considered alts today. CryptoScam1 says,
altcoins beside Bitcoin are technically altcoins. There are level of altcoins. ETH and Solana are
the major altcoins. That's probably the best way to put it. I agree there. There's levels to this thing. There's major altcoins. And I would say ETH,
Solana are in the S tier, Hyperliquid, BNB, Chainlink in a tier below that. And then you have
just pure memes and pump fun runners of the day that are all the way on the other end of the
spectrum. But that's probably the correct take, the correct definition, if there is one.
And real quick, Aaron and Ernest, apologies. We missed something where we got our wires crossed.
We got you guys coming on tomorrow with Simpleformer joining us and talking Unvault.
We've got actually another guest joining us here at nine o'clock today.
But I just, I saw the post there. I wanted to, didn't want you to think we were ignoring you or not bringing you up on stage. But yeah, we've got you guys lined up for tomorrow. We'll get,
we'll connect with you offline after the show. But I am truly excited for that. I'm going to go
ahead. And since we're talking about it, I'm going to drop the link to that show up top and do us a favor in addition to helping us warm up today's space.
Go hit the reminder for tomorrow's show as well.
Excited to talk about some new things, some new things developing in that world.
And, you know, we're beating the royalty drum yesterday.
We had Poppy on here
and talking about the success Quirky's had
and attributing a lot of that success
to royalty protection.
Unvault and Aaron and Ernest and team over there
are big drivers of that.
And if you haven't heard them yet,
a lot of just making it easy for anyone and everyone. There's really no excuses
anymore as to why you would not be on a Royal to Protect a contract. And if you are unsure how to
do that, don't miss tomorrow's show. That is momentarily here. We'll have that link pinned
up top and why we are continuing to warm things up
here today, go do me a favor and hit that reminder. Show 1110 on tap for tomorrow. And then we
mentioned show 1111 is on Friday. Not sure what that means, but we'll be doing something fun.
X is giving issues, getting reports from many
today. If you're having issues with X, good reminder. Thanks. Thanks for letting us know.
Head to YouTube. YouTube is almost always on. The YouTube link is pinned up top as well.
You can find that one in from the one in from the left. X video may be working, but it
looks like hearing some reports that X giving us some issues across the board. Riddle me that.
The never fails. At least we're not having audio issues today. So we are good to go on that front
and appreciate everyone who helped us troubleshoot yesterday.
Yeah, this I think is where we net out.
Really, everything other than Bitcoin,
you can consider an alt.
And Beepic says anything L2 probably should be alts.
Yeah, probably so. But that's likely when we see these
reports about altcoin season or alts, that's likely what they are referencing as well.
Before we hit the nine o'clock hour, though, I do want to at least fly over the NFT market.
We did have Nibbles minted out yesterday. We had Mwahaha on, I can't remember if that was Monday.
I think Monday, Mwahaha joined us talking about the Nibbles mint from Frankie's nibbles minted out yesterday we had muahaha on i can't remember if that was monday i think monday muahaha joined us uh talking about the nibbles mint from frankie's they minted out
and uh did you just call it maha i thought that's how you pronounce it is they're just maha
i don't know i don't know i forget it maybe i'm wrong but the successfully minted out floor is
up a little bit i don't know it was i know up a little bit. I don't know.
I knew it was a $69 mint.
I don't know what that equated to yesterday in ETH,
but Floor is up slightly.
Pudgy's up 1.4% to 4.49.
Moonbirds up 5% on the day at 1.03.
Apes up over 6 ETH once again,
up 2% on the day.
Not sure what the Warplets is,
but seeing some volume there.
CryptoPunks down a few percent to 29 ETH,
but they just went, you can now buy a Punk with USDC. They just turned that on the CryptoPunks
site. You can now purchase in stables. Little Pudgies flat up slightly at 0.51. And Death
and Taxes up 3% to 0.03 on the day. Some good movement there for those playing the death and taxes game.
I wanted to play it. I'll be candid. Dora, I know I love what you and
Ramsey are doing. It's fun to follow along, but it just seemed like one of those things I know
myself and I would probably end up getting my NFT burnt or it just seemed like too of those things I know myself and I would probably end up getting my NFT burnt
or it just seemed like too much daily.
I love the on-chain experimenting.
I love that they're doing something more
than just putting PFPs or art on-chain.
I just, it seemed a little too complex
and I just didn't know if I had the time
or the bandwidth right now
to actively manage something like that.
So I have not yet made the move. Maybe I still do. I just, every time I get ready to make a move, I'm feeling like
I need to dive deeper and learn more about it. Yeah, if you can't see speakers, you know, I don't
know what's going on with X. It's very finicky lately, but it does seem, at least audio is coming through and would direct you over to YouTube if you're having any issues on X.
If you are having issues on X and you're on here, you probably can't hear that.
But Milady's up slightly, 1.39.
Mutants down slightly, 0.88.
Normies back up a little bit to 3.9% of the day.
Good Vibes Club down 3%. And Quirkies, again, continue to climb up another
1.2% on the day to 1.09. Shout out Poppy and team over there. Doodles, 0.48, up 2% on the day.
And Cryptoads with a little pump and getting some volume. Haven't seen Cryptoads popping on the
chart for a bit. OG collection there. Azuki down slightly. Crypto dick butts up 7.9% on the day,
0.74. It seems like that art world, a lot of these move together. When you talk about,
I'm guessing there's a lot of cryptoids and crypto dick butt collectors in the
death and taxes collection. Maybe I'm wrong there, but I think that a lot of those
Maybe I'm wrong there, but I think that a lot of those fine art collectors move in waves,
and I'm not surprised to see the pump on death and taxes.
Del Mundo's down again, another 8% of the day, down to 0.07.
And hopefully that turns soon for those that are still holding.
So hopefully that turns soon for those that are still holding.
Dore says, fun to audit floor dumpers, though.
Get wrecked.
Yeah, I don't even know what that means.
But he does say, cool to support artists trying novel things.
That's how he coaxed others to show up.
I also think this is a good continuation from what we talked about at Art Basel,
where digital art and art on chain became a thing. And you start seeing
traditional artists thinking, oh, there's something happening here beyond just price
speculation and number go up. It is cool. And nothing against art. Art's fine. It's just,
it's better on chain. I know people are giving ThreadGuy a hard time because after being in
NFTs for five years, he finally realized the value proposition of nfts when he bought a bob
dylan autograph photo i think for like 600 bucks and he walked in he's like how do i know this is
real well you don't but uh blockchain tech fixes that um random random question but before we
shift gears here i actually want to do a quick reset, go refill my coffee, and then we'll come back with a guest. But we don't get to play our intro outros enough.
So we will be—give me like 30 seconds, 60 seconds. I'll play that in, and then we'll
introduce our guest here momentarily. Prepaid for a week, just just he's talking about death and taxes here. Like I, again, I'm really,
like, I love it. I love the novel experimentation. I just, I felt I was late to it. And then I,
it's a, it's a me thing. It's a me thing far as not investing the time, energy and,
and actually understanding it. And I feel it's one of those things where if you do
invest that time and energy, I think things like this can be plus EV because there's going to be
people like me who aren't going to pay attention or close enough attention end up, you know, and I'm going
to say getting taken advantage of people like Dort, but I'd end up getting, you know, my NFT
burnt or, you know, loses his color. Thank you. Appreciate. We're excited about the partnership
as well. And I'm glad you already learned. I too am genuinely like, I'm excited about this. I've
been excited about it. I'm excited to talk with our guests today,
learn more about what they're building
because it really is talking about
doing novel things on chain.
Real builders, we're often very fortunate.
We get to talk with leaders, founders, teams
that are truly pushing the space forward.
And this is one that not only pushing the space forward,
at the intersection of web two and web three,
you could even call it a
web two industry coming on chain. And I am really, really excited about that. So that said, Joey,
my one quick question for you is easy doing anything with art? Like you are you doing any like traditional art in your in your in your
brinks vaults are you have you tokenized any art yet or is it just pure collectible cards and
sneakers and that stuff have you done any art yet we have not done art yet um we're being very
strategic with how quickly we expand into other verticals like we you know
we did the basketball claw on flow um because we you know we were able to capture some of the top
shot community um we partnered with sport.fun to you know kind of bring in some other sports cards
into that multi-category the 30 multi-category we've been
approached by people um to do other things like you know comic books and we get requests all the
time for you know oh why don't you guys carry v friends cards and magic the gathering and and
you know it's there's so much out there but the question is like what is the market for it um so we don't
want to just add things like traditional art if they're just going to sit there and not move you
know totally makes sense i fully get it and um that's why you guys are are crushing it and can
you record-breaking months because you're not you're're, you're focused and you are, um, you, you can,
Andrea, Pratik, yourself, the team continue to make, uh, wise decisions. And I think not
spreading yourself too thin is, is probably prudent. Um, yeah. If you watched any of
Andrea's recent interviews, um, our big focus is to continue to go multi-chain too. So that's the next two big advancements for us
is adding another chain
as well as just continuing to build out
the platform to become better, right?
But that's the next is, um, we're gonna,
we're gonna be going to a third chain.
Looking forward to hearing more. Um, thanks for jumping up today.
You're welcome to hang out and, um, not just Joey,
but if anyone else has any questions for our guests,
you're welcome to jump up on stage. Uh, if we have time, uh, time for many,
we will get all questions answered, whether on stage or in the chat. And I am going to play a quick coffee break here.
I think it's like a minute and 22 seconds.
And then I'll have the pleasure of introducing our special guest of the day, Fred from the Doma team.
Excited for all of you to hear a little bit about Fred's journey and learn more about Doma.
Don't go anywhere.
This is an exciting one.
I said it yesterday, and I truly meant it. Partnership or not, it is one of the interview I've been most excited about for a while because truly doing new
things on chain. And I think very well, you could fast forward a year or two, and this is one of the things that brings in another wave of new users and drives home the value of how bringing real-world assets on-chain unlocks new things.
It just allows you to do more.
It's a new and improved way to transact, to trade, to invest in.
Don't go anywhere.
We'll be right back.
A minute and 22 seconds.
And we'll introduce our special guest today. Why we play this, if you haven't already done so, given the
space some love, those likes repost bookmarks, comments in the chat goes a long way to help and
get the room warm for our special guest. And we'll be fielding questions in X as well as YouTube.
We'll be right back. Thank you. welcome back to Coffee with Captain.
Excited to introduce our guest of the hour, Fred from DOMA.
Fred, GM, thanks so much for joining us today.
Really excited to get into this.
Before we get started, though, talking about DOMA and D3 and all that you're building over there,
we'd love to get a little more, or I'd love for you to share a little more of your background
and not just your journey into crypto, but the board at Biak Club and anything you'd like to share about your background in the debate industry and ultimately led you to this point.
GM, welcome.
Thanks for having me.
So a little bit about my background.
So I'm Fred.
I'm CEO of D3.
We're building Dome on the blockchain.
I'll start very quick.
I grew up in L.A. LA, currently in downtown LA right now.
Not a lot of people I know work or live in downtown LA.
I've been in the domain industry for about 25 years.
This is my second domain company.
You mentioned Apes.
I'm also BAYC7001.
Proudly bought my Ape back in 2022 at the at the height and held on.
I got the Bohock.
Appreciate you holding on and yeah, respect for for holding on buying the near top and
and continuing to rock it proudly.
Pretty much at the top.
I paid 135 ETH when ETH was about $3,700.
So, mad respect.
So, tell us, let's just jump right into the thing.
I appreciate your time.
I guess before we jump into Doma,
I don't know if there's anything that caught your attention
or interest there in the earlier conversation.
Bitcoin moving today, ETH moving.
Any thoughts on just market at a high level
or anything to add to the conversation
we were having before you joined us?
I was particularly interested
and I was just chatting with my team about,
you mentioned crypto dick butt collectors.
Pretty awesome.
I got three kids,
so I think they'd be all over that
if they could buy, when they could buy.
I don't know if they're too late.
But generally, no.
I think long term, I've been holding my Bitcoin and Ethereum for a while.
So I think that if you even look at the blips of the past two or three years, we're netting that up.
And so I think my companies usually are about eight to ten years.
So I think we're still early on in any cycle.
Yeah, I agree.
So jumping into things, you've been in the domain industry for 25 years, very accomplished in that space.
Can you give us like even a short background of like what sparked this idea and why it matters?
So I used to own about a million domains,
mostly .coms back in the day.
What I noticed even 20 years ago,
it's just really hard to buy a domain name.
You might've looked into one CAP yourself.
I don't know if you have CAP.com, that'd be awesome.
I don't have that one, I would love it.
But probably a little bit out of my current price range,
I'm guessing, but I'm gonna go check it out now because I don't know if I've ever went to CAP.com.
Capital management experts.
Yeah, I mean, that would make sense.
So it's super hard to buy and sell and even trade a domain name.
It takes three to four weeks, if not months.
You know, oftentimes brokers charge 20 to 30%.
And oftentimes, they only take fiat, doing a wire. And oftentimes, deals basically fall through all
the time. So I've seen it. I've lived through this industry for about 20, 25 years now.
And if you look at a domain name, it's already a digitally native asset.
And if you look at a domain name, it's already a digitally native asset.
It was these .coms.
Cap.com was created in 1993, 1994.
All right.
So people know it has value.
But to this day, it's super hard to even interact, let alone throw in a lobbed offer to it.
I have friends who know friends, brokers and brokers and stuff.
That's usually the way to do it.
So fundamentally, I thought, you know what? let's attach blockchain to an existing web2 industry let's bring crypto
to domain names for example the very fabric of humanity trust me six billion people plus and
growing perhaps 10 billion plus agents as well the domain system works. You don't need to fix it. Trust me.
You don't need to create alt systems, alternative systems. So really kind of leveraging the domain
name expertise, figure out the pain for myself, and I'm bringing it to the market. That's my goal.
That's awesome. To answer your question, I've never bought a domain from a broker.
a domain from a broker. I've registered many domains. And I think while I've used some of
them, most like I know my journey is not, I'm not the only one that's done this where I, oh,
I get this great idea, a registered domain. And then a year later, I've not done anything with
that domain. And I just make this, am I going to renew this thing? Am I just going to let it go?
and I just make this, am I going to renew this thing?
Am I just going to let it go?
And if I've owned a hundred domains in my life,
I might own like 10 to 12 today,
mostly because I just like the idea
of even selling it or listing it.
I think I've maybe listed some via like,
I don't know, GoDaddy or Google or Squarespace or whatever.
But I never bought one through an auction
or a broker. And it's, it's really one of those things where I feel like it's, it's, it's an
industry that you like, you need to know someone or, or you need to be deep in the weeds and know
a lot about it. And it's just never been something I've taken the time or, or spent the, spent the
resources to dive into. And so my journey has been,
I don't want to say wasted a lot of money on domains, but I bought domains, had an idea,
and didn't do anything with it, didn't renew them primarily because if I wasn't actively
building a business with that domain, I didn't know what to do with it. How do I
capitalize at all? How do I monetize this domain outside of parking it
somewhere or selling it to someone else and it's just i've done that time and time again and i think
doma can can kind of unlock some new utility with domains that we might be holding right
yeah you you hit the nail ahead you know for an asset that's basically should be
liquid it's very illiquid right our main goal is to bring liquidity to the space people have
it's just like real estate domains are digital real estate ai.com selling for 70 million dollars
a couple weeks ago right you know see we all know the buyer you know chris at crypto.com there was a
seller's broker and there was a buyer's broker it literally was like physical real estate right
but it's real pick like you said a little bit history about the industry is that 20 25 years
ago the people got early on you know they hoarded these things you They're smart. They were the early land grab, the early robber barons of the time.
And it was global, but it was also like Little America that kind of got lucky.
They just found something.
And you think about the carrying cost, unlike physical real estate, a domain name like AI.com,
the annual carrying cost is $10.
You're not talking about property taxes. you're not talking about maintaining electricity garbage taxes insurance
for property in malibu it is the world's in my opinion most efficient digital asset
has yet come to crypto until now and we do that at domA. I've never thought of it that way,
but it might be one of the,
not just digital,
it might be one of the world's
most efficient assets, period, right?
Like if you think about,
AI.com is a perfect example.
An asset like that,
yes, they held for decades,
but the cost to maintain it was,
like you said, $10 a year.
You know, maybe if you're buying
a premium domain,
maybe you end up paying, I don't know, a hundred bucks a year on some of these premium domains,
but relative to any other asset, any other property, extremely efficient. I'd never,
never connected those dots, but yeah, this is, it really is. And I think, again, I,
Chad, you can tell me if I'm wrong here, but I know I'm not the only one
who's had, you know, an idea late at night.
I'm, oh, this is going to be the next greatest thing.
And let me go register five domains just in case.
And then, like you said, it's illiquid.
I don't end up doing anything with it
if I don't ship the business.
And, you know, the justification,
do I continue to hold this domain?
Now, ai.com, maybe that's a little different. You know, the people, do I continue to hold this domain? Now, AI.com, maybe that's a
little different. You know, the people who are super early, but for others that weren't super
early, we have to make this decision. Is someone going to want this domain five years from now,
10 years from now? Is it worth even paying the $10 a year to maintain this? Whereas Doma's
unlocking a whole new world for those that are domainers.
And when I say domainers, you don't have to be the brokers out there that are buying or selling
AI.com. Yeah, I can see where Doma makes sense for those individuals as well. But when I first
got turned on to Doma, what got me excited was like, oh, wow, I could have used this over the
last decade and brought a lot of my domains onto Doma and actually done something with them, turned that
wallet-efficient asset into a productive asset. And this is what gets me excited, unlocking,
I don't know if you caught the, we were talking about BZ and what they're doing with, you know,
RWAs on the collectible side. It's just, it's just better. Like, it's just better. It's just better on-chain than off-chain.
Really appreciate you guys taking the shot and experimenting and innovating and bringing
new yet old things on-chain.
Definitely.
If it would help, I could give a little 30-second information primer on what the domain industry
Would that be helpful?
absolutely.
There's about 380 million domain names in the world,
like.com.ai,
et cetera.
The asset class is about $350 billion.
It's 40% owned by institutions and domain investors.
People like what I'm talking about,
who actually buy and flip these things.
This was interesting because you mentioned as well,
not only are people buying it,
you mentioned you can buy your domain name at night
for your startup and you go to bed.
Now agents are buying domain names themselves.
We think this is going to be the power of the next
or explosion of these identities
that are pretty much universal.
There's only one amazon.com. There's only one ai. much universal there's only one amazon.com
there's only one ai.com there's only one cap.com right unlike nfts there were
you know i'm like you my open c account you can look at it like you can
there there have been a lot of fake drops there's been a lot of fake nfts back in the day right
people claim to have my same ape but there's only like one smart contract as you know you want you as a smart savvy guy you have to go and verify the token contract and make
sure it's authentic right you don't have to worry about that domain names there's only one domain
for amazon for example that will resolve globally for everybody another stat i think is interesting
uh domain name system or DNS queries, right?
Every device, every device, every computer does a DNS query, right?
It's just looking up like an address.
You go to amazon.com.
The domain name system gives you an IP address.
You go visit the website, right?
That resolution was at about 6 trillion monthly queries back in 2022.
Today, it's about 14 trillion per month. That number is quickly growing, right? With all this
talk about agents and people skipping apps and probably going straight to me talking to your AI,
AI talking to other AI, AI talking to other people, that's just going to explode the amount
of internet traffic going forward, right?
So it's actually a pretty embedded industry.
And this whole system has been governed by ICANN here in LA.
ICANN is known as the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers.
They're a nonprofit.
They're made up of 200 governments.
They're the most functional decentralized org out there.
People don't think about it, right?
So both enabling you to be on the internet or background behind the scenes
and can scale to hundreds of trillions of queries per month.
So super interesting industry that not many people know about.
Yeah, it really, I feel it's one of those industries where like a lot of people, most
people know of, but very few really know about.
It feels like a very small, hyper niche group of individuals that know a lot and then the
rest of us are like outsiders.
And you know, you talk about ICANN being decentralized.
I do like this is not to be cheesy, but it feels like somewhat like democratization of an industry
when you're bringing these domains on chain.
And you were talking some domain stats there.
I'd love to hear a little bit about DOMA stats
and tell us kind of about the growth so far.
I'll share the main landing page.
But while DOMA might be new for first time,
some of our listeners
are hearing about it today, not just started, you've been around for a bit and have had
some great successes early on.
Do you mind sharing some of the early growth numbers and where you are already?
First of all, we've had about $45 million in trading volume since we launched mainnet of DOMA a couple months ago. We've had just a little bit over 100 domain names tokenized. Again, there's $400 million more. But already, we have about $24 million in asset value trading on chain if you look at investors.xyz investors.xyz was sitting
around as a domain name really renewing for whatever 10 bucks a year 15 bucks a year it was
sitting in a guy's parking lot for a while now it has 11 000 holders people can actually buy
fractions of of investors.xyz and when you buy a token of investors.xyz,
you also get a subdomain.
So there is utility.
You can get like CAP or cap, cap, cap, cap,
dot investors.xyz.
So like I said, it doesn't matter where you are.
As long as you have an account,
as long as you have a crypto wallet,
you can buy either the whole or piece of this domain name.
For something that never existed before, right?
You can only buy and sell these domains before.
For the first time, you could rationalize them, right?
We have about 40 million in-network domains quickly growing.
Our mission is to tokenize the entire internet.
So we're literally in day zero right now.
Very, very exciting.
Talk about some of these other, like, biggest token launches,
state-wood investors, XYZ.
Is that one of the bigger ones?
I just saw it was on the screen here.
There's software.ai.
If you click on software.ai or even visit software.ai,
as well as boner.com in your browser,
you will see that software.ai has, what, an FDB of just under $300,000,
less than I paid for my ape back in 2022, ironically, and it's already traded like over
three and a half million dollars of people just trading software.ai token. I think that,
you know, if I was a buyer, I came by and I'd be like, oh, I can visit
software.ai like binance.com.
Oh, it's real.
Let me invest in it.
I trust the people.
They're not a bunch of avatars.
Minus my eight, you know, boner.com.
Same idea.
We know our owners of boner.com that literally sat on it for almost 10 years.
There you go.
Boner.com.
Scroll down.
Like the asset value now on Doma is worth $180,000.
It's amazing.
They bought a lot less than $180,000.
They only sold, what, less than 25% of that name.
There's some joke here to tie in boner.com
and their $180,000 value to Crypto Dickbutts.
It's not hitting me quite yet,
but that'll be my objective before the show ends is how I can connect boner.com to Crypto Dickbutts. It's not hitting me quite yet, but I will, that'll be my objective before the
show ends is how I can connect boner.com to Crypto Dickbutts. But you're definitely pulling
on some DGN heartstrings there with that one. It really, you know, this is, you know, software.ai,
FDV of 280,000, you know, market cap of 105,000. While this may seem like a lot for a domain,
when I first was like, wow, this is seeing some of like the market caps, the FDB we see of some of the not just altcoins or, you know, notable meme coins, but even like the daily runners on Pump.Fun that have zero value, zero utility.
It's purely just speculation on price.
purely just speculation on price.
This got me excited.
I said, okay, while I may not be in the market
to go buy boner.com for 180 grand,
I certainly can speculate on it
and think that there's something there
that someone could turn this into a real business.
And I could easily see that becoming worth
far more than $180,000
and be able to participate in that upside. Is it, I guess,
kind of getting into some of the specifics here, if we can, is it, I assume the owners choose how
much they're going, you know, what percentage of the domain they're going to sell, how much
is available? Can you kind of talk through something like, you know, there's a bonding
curve. Can we talk through, do you mind sharing something like, what does that even look like? Someone wants to bring their domain onto DOMA.
How does that work?
Do they set the price?
Do they set the amount?
Does DOMA set that?
What is the specifics when it comes to
if someone wants to launch their own domain?
Yeah, it's pretty similar to how you would think about GoDaddy.
If you have a domain name, you go to GoDaddy,
or in this case, you go to DOMA,
you want to basically set some buy it now price.
In this case, brag.com has an $18 million buy it now price.
Software.ai has something like $2 million.
You don't lose that.
You can still have somebody come by and bid or even overbid
on your domain name, right?
But think about it.
They cannot do it easily with crypto.
Some guy across the world can come in and buy it with enough ETSDC,
ultimately like Bitcoin if they wanted to.
So we're already kind of knocking down that fence.
And then you can basically set, will guide you to kind of what you're starting.
FDV will be and then it graduates similar to
pumped up fund right when it graduates it then produces provides enough liquidity that allow
this token to to trade with decent liquidity and so when you sell that's it you come you tokenize
your domain you set a buy now price you know for your liking you tokenize your domain, you set a buyout price, you know, for your liking,
you still control the domain name, you decide to sell 20% or even less, you still control
the overall domain and the empty DNS, but you're really selling fractions of this asset
through a graduation process similar to other launch paths.
similar to other launch pads.
Very cool.
As I was scanning here on Bragg.com,
I see buyout price,
minimum buyout price, $18 million,
market buyout price, $18 million,
buyout fees, $180,000.
The question that popped into my head,
if the majority owners of Bragg.com,
if they want to outright sell the domain to another party, is that a, did
they, I guess, forced buyout?
Do they buy out, they buy out of the shares first and then sell?
What does that look like in terms of like a, I guess, an exit?
So the great thing is that this domain name now that's been tokenized, we essentially
hold it in custody.
We put something called a domain transfer lock. you cannot be transferred out for example it's a very elegant
uh custodial mechanism already in place the beauty about this is that the smart contract
uh controls the whole buyout logic if someone wants to come along and and the current fdb is
500 000 bucks and if someone wants to come along and they get the buy now price can change.
It could be 5 million, it could be 10 million.
All the early token holders will be bought out and will be made whole with an instant
transfer of USDC to their wallet.
So the whole program already kind of built into the smart contract from day one.
Very cool.
Uh, very cool.
I've got just the, like the exploring by the way, site app.doma.xyz to see if you're listening to the recording later or you're catching the podcast. We'll put all these links in the show notes as well.
.xyz. And you can see, you know, just very, should be what looked like a very familiar
user interface from, and you can explore, you can go just buy tokens, shares of these domains
without having to bring your own over. That would be my next question. What does, if someone's
listening today, like, oh, this is, I'm in, I want to, I've got a dozen domains. I'd like to bring them over.
Is that self-serve?
What does that look like?
How do they go about bringing, launching their domains on Doma?
What would be like next steps for someone listening in that wants to turn their domains?
Yeah, we have a sandbox registrar.
It's called Interstellar, interstellar.xyz, all one word. And you can basically, and it's called interstellar interstellar dot xyz uh all one word and you can basically and
it's it's our sandbox right our mission is that we will work with all registrars that will integrate
into doma so if you type in a domain in like uh your com you transfer it over just like you
transferring a domain name from uh squarespace to google or google to uh say Namecheap, et cetera, right?
Very clear.
And like whatever.com,
it's a very simple transfer process, right?
And again, we don't compete with other registrars.
We're simply trying to make it an easy blockchain integration for registrars.
It takes less than two weeks, one sprint to integrate.
So if you're a Namecheap,
if you're like a Squarespace
and even some of the domain registrars
that I used to own,
you want to be able to tap into Doma
to bring this product to your customers, right?
Very cool.
And not only transferring or bringing them on chain,
but I'm right in thinking
if they want to register their own,
they can register via interstellar.xyz and it brings it on to DOMA right from the jump or there's still that process after they register to the domain? Right from the jump. So right from
the jump, when you transfer it over, it's going to be tokenized and already you're going to have
a wallet attached to it. So we're doing all the heavy lifting for you so you can kind of truly make this blockchain
and crypto-friendly of an asset.
Yeah, I don't want to say it seems inevitable or obvious,
but if you're aware of this, why would you...
I mean, it's also priced competitively.
I should add that, like at least with the current promos,
you know, $7.99 a year for .com, $10.99 for .xyz.
These are, some of these are, the promo offer is valid
for the first thousand names.
But priced competitively unlocks a lot more access,
utility, liquidity.
Why, I mean, not to set you up for an easy question, but why would anyone register a
domain going forward at GoDaddy or Squarespace or fill in the blank registrar?
I mean, this just seems like it's on every level.
I don't, what would be the downside of registering on interseller.com if there is one?
Or excuse me, interseller.xyz.
There is a downside.
Every registrar out there
provides by ICANN rules, right?
Protect your privacy.
We protect your asset.
You know, if someone tries to come along
and steal your domain,
we'll get it back for you, right?
Provide customer support, right?
But again, we don't...
We're more about building rails
for registrars like this.
I keep going back to...
This is a reference for us.
You won't be seeing us spending million dollar ads
for Interstellar on Super Bowl.
You will see us hopefully, you know,
seeing, what was the Emma Stone commercial?
I think, what was that?
Was that Wix or Squarespace,
the Super Bowl commercial
where she was looking for her domain name?
Yeah, I thought it was maybe
the worst Super Bowl commercial too.
Squarespace.
And it didn't make any sense.
I was like, okay.
Yeah, I thought it landed very poorly with me.
I think education is one big thing, right?
People just don't know about this ASCII class being as programmable
and potentially liquid as it can be.
My brother owns 800 domain names mostly.com even
three work mostly like two word or even three word.com I'm like once you just
tokenize these well yeah the moment you kind of turn on the money money light and
someone does it and actually receive money USDC for example in their wallet
we envisioned envision this things it kind of spreading more and more so case studies
demystifying the asset class for web three and also web two people and you know us you know we're
lucky enough to also have some pretty solid backers like coinbase like paradigm who led a 30 million
who led our series a uh uh about a year ago.
And our sister companies are companies like Uniswap,
like Flashbots, like protocol-level stuff
in the Web3 space, right?
So get the rails going first, build some case studies,
and then layer on the possibilities for mass retail
across Web2 and web three.
So you mentioned earlier, like, exactly what we do, we're kind of
building this web two, web three interoperability play. And
frankly, and also you mentioned to like, if you go to pumped up
fun, you know, a lot of assets are worthless, they go to zero,
domain names will never go to zero, I promise you that. Right?
The only domain names that go to zero are Domain names will never go to zero. I promise you that. Right? The only domain names that go to zero or are zero are the ones that haven't been registered yet.
At the same time, I think in this market, don't expect 1,000x on a domain.
So there's some band in between that I think is healthy, and especially in this market.
I think reality for this market and bear markets are the best times to build, in my opinion,
and the best time for people to realize where long-term value is created and accrues.
Feels a little more baked in reality and proper, right?
Like it's the valuations on some of these meme coins are, you know, it's silly.
And they will most often speed run to zero.
Here, you may not see 1,000x overnight, but it's not going to zero.
And especially over the course of time, imagine if this was around when AI.com got purchased
and they tokenized that thing.
And I mean, that would be 1,000x.
Granted, it's maybe decades in the making. But that
is, I get excited because this is real product, real builders bringing real assets on chain
and making them better. And as we were talking earlier about what is going to be catalysts,
it's going to onboard the next waves of users for it. And yes, stablecoins may not be the most exciting thing.
Payments not be the most exciting thing. Some people may not think domains are the most exciting
thing, but they're, I don't know, more exciting than stablecoins. And there's actually opportunity
to realize gains on this. You mentioned, congrats, by the way, on the raise, the early backers.
Is there any, I don't want to misspeak,
is there any, I guess, that is public
that you can share like the amount of the raise,
any other, not just investors and backers,
but some of your ecosystem partners?
Like what?
Sure, yeah, yeah.
We raised about a year ago from Bear Dime.
I think that was pretty public.
It was a $25 million raise.
That was a Series A. Some that was a series a uh some
the other ecosystems we work with are like um like solana foundation avalanche obviously the base in
the coinbase ecosystem right so some of the top communities that really see how the world and the
internet works but more importantly how can they attach their asset i'm sorry their their chain
their platform to uh rwa right as
well too i agree with you there's not there's not a ton of use cases for crypto and this is coming
from a guy who bought you know my ape for 400 000 bucks actually 430 000 bucks what do they say i
came for the artwork i stayed for the community i'm still part of the community we've been entrusted
by the acoin foundation to launch.ape this year right i still am a big believer of the community. We've been entrusted by the ApeCoin Foundation to launch .ape this year, right? I still am a big believer of the ethos of Web3, right? But people are
looking for more long-term viability ecosystems like those I mentioned, right? They want trading
fees, of course. They want expansion. They want use cases. They want trading to happen on
Sass and Class, right? And I think it's ironic, too. A lot of people in Web3, like course, they want expansion. They want use cases. They want trading to happen on Assassin's Class.
And I think it's ironic, too.
A lot of people in Web3, like me, who's an ape, and I bought a ton of shit coins, and I have Azuki's, Moonbirds.
Every farmhouse animal I feel like is in my wallet.
Still, I've never sold.
I've never sold.
You may not care about something, but then you switch your windows and you go to Binance.com maybe you can trade people just inherently don't think about it to say oh I'm doing
over my email I only trust emails coming from crypto.com which is two blocks
away crypto.com arena for example right so it's just like it's just sometimes
just you need a little bit of the relate what people are normally doing in Web3 to tie to something they can do in, say, Web2 to just connect the dots.
Speculation, you know, trading, owning a critical identity for boner.com, right?
Just needs to kind of click a little bit more.
And we're kind of really excited to kind of keep on building and educating toward that.
It is exciting. I do want to come back to on building and educating toward that. It is exciting.
I do want to come back
to premium domains
and specifically have a question
But you mentioned like identity
and digital identity.
Can, like, how does like ENS
integrate into this?
do these tokenize DNS domains?
Can they behave like an ENS domain?
Can we map it to,
like, can you help?
Like, I feel like I should be clicking for me,
but can you expand on that identity
across both Web 2 and Web 3 and where DOMA comes into play?
ENS are actually great partners.
I think that they've decided since day one,
they're going to focus on interoperability as well
between Web 3 and Web 2.
If you buy a subdomain like cap.brag.com,
you can not only map your wallet to it,
but you can map your ENS identity to it
with a click of a button.
So then you could go on to, say, a Metamask or something,
and all of a sudden you'll be identified,
your wallet will be identified as cap.brag.com or cap.boner.com.
Simple as that.
And it's easy.
I would say, quick interjection.
Phonics wins the chat.
How did you get rich?
I was early to boner.com.
We all can be early to boner.com now.
This is never before.
You might've missed out on the original registration,
but now everyone listening in, you can all be early to boner.com now. This is never before. You might have missed out on the original registration, but now everyone listening in, you can all be early to boner.com.
Fred, I did not see our conversation as taking us back and forth to boner.com today, but here we are.
In all seriousness, it is this sort of stuff where it's, I don't know, what gets me so excited is
it's like real-world business, real assets, yet at the same time, it's a team that's in the Web3 trenches, in the crypto trenches, understanding the culture.
And there's something, I think, something magical there when you combine these two worlds, this intersection of Web2 and Web2 serious business, Web3 degens and fun and the comedic nature of it.
Web3 degens and fun and the comedic nature of it. And I know that while this may be,
we say crypto Web3 stuff, memes are viral for a reason. A lot of people, while there's real
substance behind all this, like having some fun with some of this stuff, having fun with this
on-chain identity, it carries weight. It matters. It transcends just the crypto space. And yeah, touche for
leading the charge here. Before I forget, back to premium domains and .ape.
Like, I was not familiar with the process of registering premium domains and going to these auctions.
I'm still very elementary knowledge, but it was actually the proposal that you guys put up and
passed with the ApeCoin DAO and securing that. Can you educate us a little bit on that? What
does that process look like? I'm guessing most people have no idea what it takes to actually go own
a premium domain like .ape.
And anything you can share on that process, what kind of timeline we're looking at, and
any other details that might be relevant for premium domains, specifically .ape?
Yeah, so I can.
About once every 15 to 20 years, they allow basically a new generic top
level domain to be created like a dot ape, right?
We call those GTL DS.
So that round starts in two months, two months.
So you need to pay about $250,000, 000 right you have to build an application this big
your team has to be vetted you have to have 100 uptime you have to go through financial audits
for example you have to abide by a pretty strict rule we'll set up there's only about 20 qualified
operators of these extensions like a dot ai or dot xZ, you know, let alone.com or even like a dot ape, right in the world.
And then it's a land rush. You know, it's a,
it's a process whereby these things get delegated and then they start working
your browser, you know, within a year or two, that's it.
You just have to be vetted. It's probably no different than not,
not completely, but similar to trying to get a taxi cab medallion in New York City. You probably have to pay money. You probably have to get your
background checked and all that stuff. You probably have to have a car. It's pretty similar to the
world of creating these extensions. Yeah, every 15 years is wild.
That's pretty wild. And you have to know how to market these things, right? Trust me, there's a
lot of dead top-level domain extensions that are unlaunched.
Coca-Cola has .coc.
FedEx has .fedex.
There's been .dot.
And there's a lot of – it's pretty glamorous, I think, to actually create one of these planets and issue land in perpetuity and renew it in perpetuity.
But you need to know what you're doing.
You need to be able to get in front of people. like what you're doing. Distribution is king, man. Like
you need to know how to get in front of the right eyeballs to buy the stuff. So we're pretty
excited about Ape, for example, because we're working with ApeCoin now. And the guys at Yuga
and ApeCoin have been having great for the past, you know, few years here.
Yeah, I'm personally excited. And that is one where I did reserve cap early on.
So I may not have cap.com,
but cap.ape once this goes through.
What is it?
I mean, do you anticipate a bidding war?
Does it like, what is like,
I guess, is there a scenario
where you're not able to secure.ape
because someone comes in and goes harder at it?
Is there, can you share like what you might, and I'm not trying to put you on the spot or share anything.
There's two types of applications.
You can put in what's called a community application.
Like literally I can, it's something called a community application, which when I, when I looked at web three, I was like, oh, this is, this is all community.
That's why I paid $430,000 for my eight.
I came for the community.
It's a proven set of people, wallet addresses, whatever.
You can just be like, here you go, I can.
Interesting.
Real community. The second application is a brand application.
Those are reserved for companies like if you own Microsoft, for example,
and you want to buy .Microsoft, you put in a different application for a brand that's going to be called restricted deal.
You can only use it for team members, buildings.
You can't sell it, for example, to the general public on like a GoDaddy, right?
And then the rest is going to be auctions.
.Agent, we'll go to auction and trust you.
Dot crypto, we'll go to auction.
Trust me, it's a generic keyword.
And ICANN has been really good about defining for the past several decades.
The generic words in TLDs cannot be trademarked.
So that is definitely when people with the right application,
the right team, the right technology,
but the right amount of bankroll
will come in and have to bid.
Yeah, very interesting.
It's a world that, as I mentioned,
seemed very complex.
And probably a good thing
when you think about like the, the, the moat that is there, both from capital and, and knowledge and,
and connections, probably, probably a good thing that it is protected like that. And again, not to
be cheesy early, as I said earlier, but it really does feel like Doma is helping democratize this,
this world of domains and making not just high levelA is helping democratize this world of domains
and making not just high-level premium domains,
but making this world accessible to not just those of us that are here in the crypto space,
but, you know, quote-unquote normies.
Maria in the chat says,
I think when a non-Web3 person goes to claim their domain name the regular way,
and on that page there's a button that says,
hey, before you click, you want to claim your domain in a way where you can earn tokens instead.
That would be a way for people to get interested in and onboarded.
I even see on DOMA,
they're about getting your subdomain and staking domains.
What does that entail?
Can you expand on what does that even mean?
Staking a subdomain and why might I want to do that?
So if you buy a token for boner.com, even if it's one token, you will need to stake that one token in order to qualify for a subdomain.
One token may give you a very, very long subdomain, cap, cap, cap, cap cap cap cap cap you know dot boner.com if you put in
like maybe 5 000 or 10 000 tokens and stake them you can get a shorter subdomain interesting and
then you can immediately map that to your website uh your wallet address your ens address and utility
right away so if I go by boner.com tokens and I stake those tokens and I have cap.boner.com,
what do the economics look like there?
Is it just all token is being bought, so number theoretically goes up?
Is there any sort of flow back to whether it be the other shareholders of boner.com or the
the majority owner of boner.com? What does that look like when someone does exactly that
and registers one of these subdomains? So it's very intuitively Web3. There's
a fixed supply, call it a million tokens. The more people coming by and buying subdemands and staking
them, the less kind of circulating supply there is.
Right. The rest is just kind of simple.
I think supply, you know, demand economics as it relates to the token.
Right. You can also see on chain what people are doing, where these tokens are being traded, perhaps even on DEXs and stuff.
And you can see if the owner also claims and sells more of these things to the public to allow people to buy and stake even more tokens.
So it follows the mechanics that you and the audience, I think, are pretty aware of already.
But just, again, doing it for a domain name just needs to be clear.
And, of course, we implement Uniswap v3 with full range liquidity.
So you can also come in and provide liquidity for boner.com.
You can earn fees in USDC for that and withdraw your liquidity at any time.
And I can do that on doma.xyz or Uniswap or it's proprietary to the Doma platform?
You can do it on either.
We just make it easier to focus on this asset class as opposed to sifting through
all the other products on Uniswap itself.
Very cool.
And I see you guys USDC on here is are they all paired with USDC or can they be
paired with ETH or any other?
What's the other sides look like yep paired with eth uh usdc uh you have to bridge your usdc to doma
there's a very straightforward and easy process to do that on the left on the top with a bridge
button other uh evm and svm solana uh capabilities will come in the near future. Super excited about that.
Very cool.
I do, not necessarily kind of a hard pivot,
but we're talking about this space.
And by the way, we alluded to,
we've got some more stuff coming.
This isn't just a one-off interview.
We are going to be having a couple times a week,
a brief segment brought to you by DOMA.
We will have some fun stuff in the works for
our regular listeners and our supporters.
I know it's maybe a month and a half,
two months away here,
but can you talk to us a little bit
about Dominion Conference?
For those that there might be individuals listening,
they're getting really excited about this.
What is Dominion Conference and
why might they want to be attending?
Dominion in April, April 29th through 30th in Vegas is our third annual conference dedicated
to DomainFi, kind of the financialization of domain names, right?
It's going to be high quality, action-packed.
We're going to have some great speakers
from Web2 and Web3.
You want to be there because, again,
it's off the back half of Bitcoin Vegas.
For anybody who values, you know,
access to a kind of mystified
and kind of wants to demystify this asset class,
join in, meet, network with folks,
great entertainment, great food, you should come. We'd love to have you too.
And you said, so off the tail, so Bitcoin Vegas is a couple of days and then
immediately following Bitcoin Vegas is Dominion?
Right. April 29th and 30th next month at Resorts World Vegas.
So I think Bitcoin Vegas is just like the prior few days, April 27th, 28th-ish or so.
You mentioned third annual conference.
You threw out DomainFi there.
Am I correct in assuming that D3 and Doma coined the phrase DomainFi?
That's, I don't want to say exclusive to you all, but you originated this, just the
domain five segment, right?
Yeah, we, we created the whole terminology domain five.
We also trademarked term in the U S as well.
So domain five is, is ours.
What, what sort of like as a crypto native and one that gets really excited when we get new primitives, new, especially when we're bringing real world assets on chain and doing so in novel ways, gets me excited.
What sort of reception have you got from this from the domainers, those that aren't crypto natives, whether it's been at Dominion or they come across Doma and DomainFi elsewhere, you threw out your brother there as an example, but what sort of reception, good, bad, ugly, and different have you received from, you know, hardcore OG domainers when it comes to Doma and DomainFi?
Pretty good, pretty receptive, right?
I've made a lot of domainers millions of dollars across the street 20 years ago when I came
out of college.
They trust me.
They trust that I built real technology.
I think there's a good book out there called Crossing the Chasm.
For anybody who hasn't read it, check it out.
It talks about the five stages of adoption.
I'd say there's always the earliest innovators, right? The techies usually adopt first, right? And then there's a cohort of
early adopters that are kind of like those visionaries. And then there's kind of the
early majority and late majority conservatives. That's like the top of the bell curve, right?
A lot of domainers are kind of in between early majority and early adopters, kind of on the uptick of that two or three stages of adoption.
It's normal.
We anticipate it.
It just requires focus and grinding for the next weeks, months, and years over here.
And like I said before, my companies in general have been, on average, eight to ten years each.
And D3 has been around for, what, two and a half years so it's a marathon I
mean we anticipate we look forward to it but I think once you kind of and then
of course the late stage adopters will be the big corporates right hopefully I
don't know TV commercials one day where it's just like quickly click like I see
with chime calm and all these commercials all
over TV, right?
But yeah, you bring the great, you bring good charts.
So like I said, Web2 domain industry people are kind of in that innovators and early adopters
And I think the Web3 people are probably in a combination of stage two and three over
there, that early majority.
So we anticipate, and that's why we're doing, for example,
these conferences and doing more education about DomainFi.
But we're right there, right at that chasm point.
It makes sense.
And on both fronts, I would, you know, if you were to, like today,
if you were to identify like a target market, are you, is you – I'm guessing maybe both, but is it crypto natives?
Is it traditional domainers?
Like, who is the target demographic for DOMA today?
Yeah, I can say this because I'm a middle child.
I've always been in between two worlds.
On the Web3 side, it's the crypto native traders.
It's the DGEMs.
It's people who want to buy an asset class and make money or use a domain name, like map it to their DNS address.
On the Web2 side, so Web3 to us represents demand.
Web2 for us represents supply.
People who have been sitting on these assets like AI.com and will literally take these assets to the grave.
they're so cheap,
10 bucks a year.
I've seen,
I'm starting to see domainers die off.
they're handing these assets now to their kids.
Like I want to,
I want to fix it.
I want to fix that.
It's like before you can do that,
you can do a lot of things with domain aim.
You could sell pieces of it.
You maybe can eventually borrow against it. You can that and like a home equity line of credit and put it put it against other other assets
you can do more this domain name but it's just it's just so tempting to hold
on to it because it's just cost ten bucks a year you know to renew it I'll
do it next year maybe next year yeah, supply on the web two side
demand on the web three side. I think what's going to be exciting for me is when like these
web, web, web two supply people also become buyers. Yeah, right. That's when it's going
to be like late stage, you know, early majority for sure. I, as I was pulling up again, doma.xyz, app.doma.xyz, you can see everything
I'm looking at on screen here. One of the things that jumped out to me was the, the, just the
amount of these subdomains and investors.xyz already has 23,000 subdomains. Is it, is that
even possible in web two to without like buying one from the domain holder is it like am i right thinking it's not
even possible like if i wanted to go get a subdomain for i i don't know uh yeah.com yeah i
can't do it right unless unless they're selling those subdomains or i was i was uh watching the
super bowl and i was like a lot of people i was trying to claim my ai.com username right
bowl and I was like a lot of people trying to claim my AI.com slash username, right?
And I even put down my Apple pay to reserve it.
I still, I don't even know what I bought, to be honest with you.
I haven't, I haven't gotten a credit card charge, but I would love to have a subdomain
thread or fredshu.ai.com.
So what's that?
I can't do it.
That's what, that's what I was thinking.
And to me, that's, while it may not be your, your, your lead, I think that's, that's powerful. Well, you know,
you talk about on chain, on chain, uh, identity, but not just on chain, like digital identity and
like to be able to go get cap.investors.xyz or cap.software.ai cop, you know, fill in the blank.
XYZ or cap.software.ai, fill in the blank. Again, it's unlocking more utility,
providing more access to the masses. And I think just one of the really well-thought-out protocol
platform with all that you can do on it, it's not just tokenizing the asset and selling shares,
really is unlocking a lot more. And I am excited to dive in deeper. I'm excited to bring
some domains that I've held and done nothing with, bring them over to DOMA. We're actually
going to do that live here on the show here. I don't know if we're going to do that next week,
but in the near future, we're going to do some live demos and show everyone that process. And
I know we're running up against 10 o'clock here.
I really greatly appreciate your time next morning.
Excited to work with you and the team
and spend a little more time together.
I will ask if you have a few more minutes,
if there's anyone in the chat
that has any additional questions for Fred
regarding DOMA or the domain industry in general,
either throw in a request to come up on stage
or drop your questions in any of the chats.
We'll do our best to get all those answered.
But before we get you out of here
or get to any additional listener questions, Fred,
is there anything that we haven't talked about today?
Anything I haven't asked you
that you were hoping to share with everyone?
No, well, one quick thing.
You mentioned the team.
We are a team of 40 40 half of us in the
united states we're pretty fierce uh we have i think the best team i've ever worked with so
really hats off to the team uh they've been hustling they've been pushing they've been
staying around the clock uh just a big shout out to my team uh we have some of the best commercial
tech product people i think think, in the world.
I would agree. I know we've only been working together for a short period of time, but our producer, Payne, can attest that, and I mean this, no disrespect to any of the other
partners. We've worked with incredible partners. We had Joey up here from BZ. BZ supported us.
We've worked with ENS.
We've worked with ENS. We've worked with some, you know, with the Ape Foundation and that,
We've worked with some, you know, with the Ape Foundation and that data.
Worked with some incredible teams in this space.
It's been refreshing working with you all that I don't even know how to best describe it.
I'm trying to choose my words carefully because I don't want this to be taken out of context.
I'm not trying to offend anyone else.
But it's like there's adults in the room.
Like you get crypto culture, but at the same time, just the professionalism.
It may sound silly for some, but even having a brand book or brand guidelines from logos
It's just like it is refreshing to see individuals in a team who is very polished, understands
the corporate world, how people move in the corporate world, how business development takes place and partnerships are done.
And in bringing that on chain, it gets me excited.
The best way I was describing to someone else, it's like, and I know, yes, building on chain,
but to me, it's been an experience like, oh, we're working with a real Web2 company that's
building on chain.
And that gets me excited just at the highest level is
we need more people like yourself. We need more leaders that have the credentials, the background,
a team that is so polished and brings with it a wealth of knowledge and experiences and how to
move in this space. And again, I don't mean any offense to anyone else, but more grownups in the
room, that in itself is going to help onboard not just other users, but other entrepreneurs, other builders, other startups when they can see like, oh, this isn't just, you know, they're not just crypto because the technology to make something better.
And I guess at the core, we talk about, you know, talking with founders and builders and teams,
like that is, to me, it's very important and truly appreciate, not just for the partnership,
the opportunity to work with you all, but how you are building this space, I think is,
I hope other founders and teams can take note and pay attention. And
I do, I genuinely mean it. I think this, that will onboard many others. Like,
I would be actually surprised if some Web2 company or some domainer that talks with you guys at
Dominion this year doesn't ultimately start exploring and doing something and building
something on chain. And that is, I think, a big boost. Even if you're not into domains and you've never registered domain,
you're not into trading altcoins that we were talking about earlier or have any interest in
a subdomain, watch how this team moves, watch what they're doing. And if you have other friends
who are entrepreneurs or founders or considering crypto, they're crypto curious. Like this is, I get really excited about, you know, yourself and the team you mentioned.
And it's, it is refreshing for my, and again, no offense to anyone else who's listening in,
there's a lot of great people in this space, but there's, I think, very few that have both,
both the traditional corporate professional background and understand crypto culture and can can navigate with
the crypto natives i think um i think it's pretty impressive and excited to do more with you all
and we're hiring too just wanted to say we're hiring we're trying to we if you if you like
la come to la it's not so bad it's pretty good but again our mission really is to unlock liquidity
for domain investors, right?
And growth for these registrars, like I was mentioning, right?
And again, this is a real asset class.
Trust me, the internet will be around for the next 100 years, okay?
And we wanted to, you know, make that accessible to Web3 traders finally.
Fred, any specific positions or any particular roles or anything in particular you're looking for currently?
Yeah, you can go to d.com slash careers.
We are looking for roles around the gamut, technology.
There's even new grads, engineers, front-end, back-end.
Looking for a Solana engineer as well, full-stack guys.
On the commercial side, if you'd like to work on pretty cool partnerships, hitana engineer as well full stack guys on the commercial side if you'd like to work
on pretty cool partnerships hit us up as well both on the web 2 and web 3 fronts project manager as
well ops to help me keep this office nice and humming nobody's here right now it's 6 a.m but
but uh and then marketing we have a growth lead for Doma and also a visual
designer. We're looking for everything you can look at, check, look into at d3.com slash careers.
Thank you for asking. No, my pleasure. Thank you. And you got some love too on the office.
I was trying to find the, I saw it earlier, uh, in the chat. I think it was, uh, I think it was
Hizzy talking about how, uh, yeah, the screen, perspective looks really good on camera.
And Ann, thank you for joining us so early.
I know it's early there on the West Coast.
Appreciate you being here today.
I think one more question from the audience, if you have time.
How is DOMA planning to create sustainable demand for domains outside of trading hype, especially in the next two to three years?
to create sustainable demand for domains outside of trading hype, especially in the next two to
three years? We're going to bring some of the best assets, domains, registrars, on-chain stuff
that has never come on-chain. We'll do that pretty much exclusively, let's say.
So look out for that. So more interesting things to buy that have value. We're pretty unique at doing that.
I love it. I love it. Maria, given some flowers in the chat, said,
love the question about why wouldn't everyone get a domain this way? And the only answer she
could come up with is they don't know the tokenized option exists yet. So if you enjoyed
the show, if you're interested, go check out DOMA. We will get some links, some ref codes, some fun. We do have some fun stuff planned. So more on that starting as
early as next week. We will be talking about Dominion Conference, especially anyone that's
planning on going to Bitcoin Vegas, or if you're in the Vegas area, save those dates on your calendar for, for late April. And, um, um, yeah, really excited to,
uh, um, you know, to, to, I excited to, to, I think we're going to make the trip out there
as well. Excited to meet y'all in person. And, um, it's, uh, an honor to be working with y'all.
So thank you so much for your time today, Fred, we will be in touch soon. And if you do have
questions, uh, the, we'll, we'll drop. If you're listening to the recording later, all these links will be in the show notes. If you're in the X spaces, the DOMA protocol account, the X account is on stage. It's just at DOMA protocol. And then Fred mentioned D3, D3, the parent company of DOMA and everything they're building.
of DOMA and everything they're building. But as always, if you're unable or you missed one of
those and you have a question, feel free to reach out to myself or Payne and we will connect you
with the team. Shout out to Wes. You saw Wes in the audience earlier. Goes way back,
longtime friend of the show and frequent audience member. We were talking Clevelander earlier,
Wes, a Clevelander up there.
Wes, a Clevelander up there. I think he's maybe been to a Bitcoin meetup or two with Steve,
I think he's maybe been to a Bitcoin meetup or two with Steve, former co-host here on
the show and legend in the space.
But yeah, just a, and I think also indicative of the team you're building there, Wes is
one of the great ones.
Wes, great.
Lisa's great.
Morris, great.
Those guys are awesome.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Active member of Doma Gym.
We've got, you know, Trekkie asking, is there a massive opportunity
for scooping up domains for every college player? Even if a few go pro and become all-stars,
could be a gamble, could be payoff. I don't, not, you know, not to get into like domain names and
what you can buy or what you can squad or not, but I think whether you're talking college players or a business idea or a concept. Previously, it was just a,
you know, go register something and cross your fingers and wait. Now you can actually do
something with that. Now you could potentially, I mean, not potentially, like it wouldn't take much,
especially if you graduate, you're likely going to get your initial investment back pretty quickly.
And I am, I just, again, I genuinely mean it. I can't think of a single reason why the next domain I register,
even if we weren't working together, why I would ever even consider going to GoDaddy or
Squarespace or anywhere else. It just makes sense. It's just a better product. And
it turns a very passive, while efficient, very passive asset I can't do anything with other
than build a business on it or sell it to where now it unlocks a whole new world of
utility and opportunities.
So appreciate all you're doing in this space.
And who knows, maybe the agent will want that domain name that you get on, right?
AI agents are deploying now like at a rapid scale, as we all know, right?
So they all need universal endpoints.
I'll leave it at that.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Fred, it was a pleasure.
Thanks again for joining us today.
Appreciate all your time.
Thanks for everyone who tuned in and asked some great questions.
More soon on this.
Won't be the last time you hear of DOMA and this platform.
Genuinely excited about what they're building
and excited to show you all more.
We'll be back soon with the
Doma team. Look for those sponsor segments kicking off next week. And we will also be back tomorrow.
That link for tomorrow's show is pinned up top. We will be back as always 8 a.m. Eastern time.
If you're new here and you just came over because you saw Fred and the Doma team talking,
we do go live on X as well as YouTube and X video and abstract every weekday at 8 a.m. Eastern time, usually from 8 to 10.
Occasionally we'll go a little over 10, but we're here Monday through Friday.
Tomorrow show, actually Friday show, 1-1-1-1.
We haven't missed a day since we started back in 2021.
But Fred, thank you again for your time today.
Greatly appreciate it.
And for everyone who tuned in, appreciate all you.
And as Steve would say, hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful day, everyone.
Thanks, Cam. Bye.
