Amazing. Hey guys. Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening. Thank you for joining us.
Hey guys, Thomas from Gateway. Good morning. Good morning. Thank you for joining us. It's such an honor to speak with you today. We're just going to wait for a couple more minutes or seconds before we kick off.
Hey, Kaku, I'm trying to bring you up.
- Hey Louis, good morning.
Hey guys, are we good?
Okay perfect. Great. Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening. Welcome to another weekly space with the Yod Ma's Gang. This week we have a special guest, one of the the organizers for one of the best conferences in the cause of
the music ecosystem. Get way to Cosmos. Thomas, thank you so much for joining us. How are you feeling? Hey, thank you. Yeah, it's super basic because we are like 17 days before the conference, so everything is basically like in the whole, how this face of the whole preparation
So yeah, like finalizing the list of the speakers and the topics and making everything all right so we can share the Share the program with you guys tomorrow. That sounds perfect. I can't wait to see the program. I'm super excited. We're great to have one of our devs. I'm geo is going to be present so we're super excited for the
But yeah, I think that looks amazing so far. The speakers look great. I'm kind of bummed that I'm missing this. Yeah, but you will be able to stay like on the YouTube. So like if you don't have the chance to get there, you will not miss that much. Perfect.
But like the atmosphere but like in terms of like the keynote, but like you will be definitely missing the the chats in the hall if other like cosmonauts which is like I think in my opinion the best outcome of the conference. That's true. That's true. Communities always first and you know conferences like this give people the opportunity to come
more on a deeper level so yeah I guess I missed that but it's great to know that I can watch on youtube and couch up on some stuff so that's great. And basically that's like the idea of the conference is to like have deeper conversations with people because like over telegram
or Twitter like that's not it like meeting in person that's like all I know it's all like the key people from the ecosystem. That's very true. That's very true. But thank you for that. Hey, Kaku. Hello, it's how you guys doing. Hello everyone.
Good morning. Glad to have you all. Hey, Carcou. Hey, hey, yeah, okay, great. So yeah, we're good stuff. Start off with a couple of announcements. As you all know, we're starting out
Friday quiz that's great to happen every Friday on the old most discord is going to be great okay to have lots of fun and the top participants get a chance to enter a token brain now if you don't know what that is all you have to do is participate and if you're on top five you get to a
for free just for being not discord so you should definitely check that out and we start this Friday but yeah besides that we have an amazing guest with us Thomas from Gateway we're also going to be giving away some tickets to Gateway as well to enter the giveaway or you need to do
is retweet our pinned tweet and we'll be picking winners from there. So great, hey guys, I guess we should dive in so I'm going to start with Thomas, you know, just to sort of understand your journey to creating gateway. Basically
what inspired you to create the conference and why did you decide to focus on Cosmo's? Yeah, just to be told it happened in 2021 when I was in Lisbon, attending like the first Cosmoverse there and I was like a newbie in Cosmos that year and I see like
like the spirit of the people, it was so good, like the spirit of like the community and like all the developers and I thought yeah, I need to organize something like that here in Prague and Czech Republic because like it was so good to meet the people and get the atmosphere, that was basically like
The reason why I have done this and like in 2022, when it was like the first gateway, we organized it like basically in three months so it was like a huge hurry, but we made it and this year we would like to make it even bigger and better. That's impressive. In the first gateway, how many
participants or attendees did you have? We had 525 people actually attending on the conference from I think it was like 25 countries so it was pretty big for like a first conference so that was really impressive so I'm guessing this year's on is a long
more than that. What numbers are you looking at this year? We are looking like roughly about 800 to 2000 people and we are also like inflating the space so we will have like a dedicated area just for developers where there will be like two workshop rooms and hackers lounge from neutron.
So it will be big and also we are adding for the developers workshops. So there will be like workshops running through the whole conference. So you will have many chances to like actually talk to the people from the projects and learn something new like hands on it's not just a presentation very easily.
into some cool ideas but like hands-on experience in the project. That's great. I mean I was in space with Neutron yesterday and you know from what they said that we really hands on during the Hacker's loans. I guess that's a good one for everyone who's going to be a part of that. It's really great to know. Yes.
That was the idea. That's really great. I mean, I like how the events are shaping up right now. But with events like Gateway, what do you think it really contributes to the ecosystem in Cold Spruce? The idea or the main topic?
for this year is like showcasing that the cost process like we will work usage. So like we will be on one hand we will be shouting to the to the to the world. Hey we are here and this is how it's working and it's not just like some kind of techy techy chain but it's really having like meaningful impact on the world outside and
The other thing like for the developers they will have a lot of opportunities to learn new things about the projects this site on which on which like L1 to develop and Also like onboarding new people on on cosmos because it's needed You know I have a question is there like a huge
huge army crowd in these conferences like other people that just wander in that have no idea what crypto is last year devil's like I don't know like 15 to 20% of these people and like mostly it was like validator tech people or like some people like not like techies
But still are like clip-cryptodich and so like not that many like normies what this year it will I think it will be Little bit more normies, but like the majority of people will be people knowing what all the talks are about like detect talks. That's impressive. That's really impressive. I
I can imagine that even just planning an event on this scale would be really tasking, you know, at distance your circle here. So I mean, tell us like the top challenges that you faced, you know, planning gateway in the last two years and what you don't overcome these challenges. Yeah.
Like the first year, me and my team were going into the unknown, so we didn't know what to do. But it happened, and this year there's like much more events happening, so it's pretty hard to align with the schedule of all the speakers.
That's hard and also like the event is like it's from two days to three days and all people are coming in so That's a little bit more challenging, but like we are dealing with that so It will be good I guess my other questions to really said to this is
How's the how's the government tolerance for crypto in Prague? So do they support events or initiatives like this or are they like on defense or against this? Yeah, they don't
care much currently and like it's basically we are part of a European Union so like it's regulated by Nika but like the government still doesn't know like what is crypto so they don't care as of today
But they will, because this year there will be maybe something like 10 to 15,000 people from crypto because of the Prague-Broken chain where we will have a bitcoin, itteria Prague, Polkadot people will be here, Gateway to Cosmos, so a lot of people from crypto-sign will be here.
definitely notice this year. Yeah definitely. And like also also Prague will know this because like it's a substantial amount of people here much much more than last year. It's impressive. I think that should be net positive you know at least it gets conversations going so let's
see what comes out of all of that. But yeah, I mean, even for this year's conference, I'm really excited about the hackers lounge, you know, but I'd like to know because I wasn't there last year. What were your top three moments, moments from last year's conference? Yeah, like,
For me personally, it was the moment under like party when I was looking at all the crowd like having a good time and I was like, yeah this happened because like we have organized this conference so like people are enjoying themselves so it was like a big moment for me and also like the second second is like
like in-prope to session with Zaki and Dean talking about IST because of the Luna crash and third best moment was sunny talking to CryptoSyto about what was happening inside like the Luna team like doing all the stuff like with the network and with the
So it was also pretty interesting. And the conference happened, I don't know, it was like 5 or 6 days after terror cry. So I was thinking, yeah, everybody will be like, yeah, everything is going down. But the atmosphere was so good and people
still going forward the enemy, meaning to keep building and everything is good. So that was amazing. I think that's amazing. And that's like a lot of the energy that I get in Cosmos where people care more about building and adding to what's existing in the tech. I just generally hope in the space grow.
more than any negative stuff. So that's really great to know that even with all of that chaos people still wanted to connect. And like basically the same this year because all of the things that happened in last 12 months that is crazy like all the all those crashes but people
still believing in the tag and building that's super good. There's so much more collaborations coming from Cosmos. I saw something about me card down wanting to build a chain on Cosmos and really bullish on that. But it's great. It's great. So. And I'm so surprised
I'm happy that D.Y.D.A. has chosen from Ethereum to Cosmos. That's a huge positive signal. I think long-term Cosmo has what it takes to be top three. I'm really bullish on that. So let's see how it goes.
And like, where it goes, you can see that like on Gateway, because like all those topics will be covered there. So like all the like panels of the future of AppChain. So if we will be go like interchange security or like some roller apps like that on Dimension Celestia, like the whole model, model thesis.
So everything will be covered on Gateway. That's impressive. Definitely you know missing that. Um, Kakul, Lewis, have you guys ever been to Gateway? Actually, I like, you know, the conference I've been to of crypto is Cosmoburs and last year.
So yeah, I have I guess little experience on conferences, but in general, I think they're Like super important for the ecosystem. There's there's few few options to know for for knowing and networking
with a lot of people in the ECO so the more the merit here I think. Definitely. That's great. So you told us your top three moments from last year. We'd like to know what stuff you're looking forward to or activities you're looking forward to this year.
Yeah, definitely the hacker slouch from Neutron that will be like super cool for everybody to learn how to like build build there and like get started and Also, I'm a special looking for the panels. We have like I know it's like 12 panels right now
right now and like all of them will be super cool like Battle of Stablecoins like IST, USDC and others and also we have prepared like a me, me, the panel which is better like people from Skip and Macartek will be discussing their solutions like what is better
We are also planning pretty interesting panel about like world outside cosmos. So like there will be like people from other ecosystems talking about like which solution is the best one. Yeah, these will be the highlights in my opinion. And also like
the party on the last day the game night from Celestea which will be happening on ProCostos like beautiful overview or overproc so that will be I'm looking forward that or for that that will be super cool this party definitely sounds amazing I'm still good at that I'm missing that's all of that
Hopefully next year that doesn't happen. But yeah, we're still going to be live. The you most team will be live at Gateway to Cosmos. Geo will be there and you'll be giving a small pitch on Sunday. So yeah, if you're going to be there and look out for that. But yeah, this has been
a great conversation to us. Lewis, do you have anything to add or ask? Yeah, I guess I'm curious how the organization on the planning on this like takes on
Like how do you contact or get in contact with different developers or the ecosystem? How do you network this event basically?
what do you mean by how like getting the people there or yeah no but how do you get the speakers like the coordination seems to me the the most complicated part of it it is so if they're with all it is and like yeah like we are using like contacts from
last year and approaching those speakers and talking to them what would you like to talk about to fit into the schedule and we are also talking to a new project while the telegram groups and yeah it's
a lot of work and like actually three people are working on it full-time just like this like getting everything started. That's huge. Yeah. Trying to plan as Moe Ben seems daunting
to me. So doing this conference type of conferences on another level. Yeah, yeah, because like, like my day to day job, like what I'm doing is running to running players that work away X and fro and like, it's
stuff job but this is like much harder because you need to deal with like tons of people like my telegram is basically like giving me notifications every like 40 seconds something like a in those chat is happening. Well I appreciate it.
hopefully I can attend the next one. Yeah definitely looking forward. Definitely that sounds amazing. So we know that there's one last year, there's one this year, there's going to be another one next year. What's your vision for G8WG?
That was the end goal for Gatley. Was the end goal? The idea is to be like, there will be like two major conferences
about like Cosmo, like Cosmo vs. Us and we are basically having like a small competition between each other, like who will throw the biggest one and like basically it's all about like showing that the ecosystem is live and you can build there and you can use it.
they did it, they promoted it and also set the topics which should be discussed. Opening some hot topics and getting the outcome from that some people can learn new things and getting some alpha.
That sounds amazing. I have a final question for you and it's sort of tied into all of this. You've told us what inspired you to create Gateway. You've told us some of the challenges that you face so far.
for. But I think the last thing I'd like to know is what keeps you motivated, you know, through everything, the obstacles, you know, and through it the last two years, what has kept you motivated? The community and the people, because like last year, 14 days before the conference, I
like hey I don't want to do this again and like then I went to the to the conference and to the party and looking at all those people having like great time to motivate me hey I will do it again so it's the people and the energy of the ecosystem.
and stuff like this is not positive for the space so thank you so much Thomas for what you do and all that you do we're looking forward to being a gateway this year Gio is going to be present and thank you again for the tickets that we're going to be giving away
Yeah. And thank you for inviting me. Definitely. Definitely. This was a great conversation. We've learned so much about Gateway, you know, what drove you to creating Gateway, you know, and someone to stop to look forward to, especially the Hacker's launch, you know, so I'm sure our listeners are looking forward to all of that.
