The question of how to design efficient decentralised exchanges that cater to the needs of both liquidity providers and end users is nontrivial. One would like a platform that is cheap to use and it is available all the time. In contrast, arbitrage opportunities incentives automated bots to trade against decentralised exchanges and this can severly affect the efficacy of these platforms. The concept of crypto straddles is introduced and it is shown that under certain market conditions straddle games can exploit arbitrage opportunities on decentralised exchanges (DEXs). Buy and sell orders against DEXs can be cancelled by using the replaced-by-fee option if a user is fast enough to broadcast an appropriate transaction. We show that such optionality gives rise to short-lived straddle options on DEXs. Pricing formulas for the valuation of these options is given by the classical Black-Scholes approach and the nature of the straddle games is investigated by comparing fair prices to expectations
under the considered probabilistic model.
